"Id rather not make a scene again." Madison spoke, with Rey understanding. The two had been camped not far outside of the walls, but far enough not to be seen by anyways cept those who came this way, figuring John to be one of those people. Madison knew he was always up early like this, which is why they took that night to coming here on foot. She wanted to see him, but not at the town, alone. Not even with Rey. It was going to be surprise enough, so she might as well have went all the way with it, and Madison didnt want to keep John from doing what he did for the days hed be away.
"So then ill see you in a few days, if not sooner." Rey had been on board with this completely, giving her ladyfriend a kiss before taking off into the woods. She wanted to see Joseph to, maybe stick around for awhile. Feeling a little more hopeful than she maybe shouldve been, Rey figured Madison was expecting John and her to take the time to catch up, and hunt together, like the old times. But maybe this was a mistake. Too many maybes, she didnt think about it anymore, and just trust her.
~~~
"Scavenging party today, John. Last chance to come along, I think we can hold off on fresh meat for a few days if were coming back with something." Jackson questioned John, figuring he would ask him before he left on his own mission. But it was met with a no, which was expected, but the two had gotten along well enough to know what was best. "Take care of yourself, brother. Hope you get your twelve pointer." He happily nodded, saluting him off. Now all Jackson needed to do was get the group together. Thats when he noticed Danica at training, and she seemed to be a little lost. She was new here, so it was understandable. "You know training is cancelled today. Apparently this scavenging group the chief wants is gonna be a little bigger then usual. Im headed to get things ready now, you should find something else to do today, sorry." The spry woman pushed herself off the wall, and tilted her head. "Yeah? I might be a part of that team. How bout I come with you, and you can give me a little rundown on the plan?"
Jackson didnt know that the new woman here was going to be part of this, but so long as the chief had his say, then it would be good. He heard about her kill count, and wanted to clear it up as the two walked to the preperation building. "Yeah, okay. I still dont buy your eight thousand story ive heard about. How did you ever rack up that much so quickly, and how the hell would you keep track?" Danica bowed her head, and curtseyed, to mock her unlady like appearance. "To put it simple? Estimated Population. But id have to show you and everybody else first hand."
Bobby and Susie finished the rounds before going to the meeting place where some of the scavenging group had already gathered. They had a big plan for hitting the city to the north. Part of it was to thin the eater herd sitting within the city. The other was to get to the untouched resources within. Bobby had been planning it for a few weeks now. He used plows and chain link fencing to create a mobile barricade. They were going to move up to the city, enough pickups wise to block off a street. Locking the fences together made sure they didn't come undone. There was obviously going to be some space for the eaters to get through but this made it so that they bottle necked through and were able to be under control. Shooting would be controlled, using mostly blades to kill the eaters. The trucks would push along and a group would bring back supplies from buildings behind the safe line. Once they had enough supplies the hard part was retreating. Bobby looked among the group for the people he needed. The ones he knew were going to be the ones he relied on the most were there.
"Okay. Today's a big day guys. Huge actually. We're hitting the city, and man if I'm not honest with you guys, I'd suck as a leader. I'm nervous. If things go wrong, we're f*cked. But if things go right, and we make a big enough dent in the eater population, that city will be our's soon. Jackson, I want you on center truck. Pick the two guys you trust with your life for the other two drivers. Susie, you're head scavenger. Pick anyone you know is fast to go with you. Danica, you're with me to kill eaters. I know you wanna do here's your shot to prove your number." Bobby gave his speech before turning to Jackson to explain the whole plan. Once he was done with Jackson and his drivers, he would go over it with Susie and her runners. Once that was done he was going over the rest with the killers. Jackson already had two people picked out so it was quick. "Alright, you three, you guys are driving the trucks. They're setup with a unique barricade. We hooked fencing to a plow with steel reinforcements that we'll lock together when we're close. This will make a mobile wall. The killers are going to get any that slip by. I just need you guys to coordinate a speeds when we're close and then our retreat. If everything goes great then we won't have to worry about a retreat so much."
Susie had already started picking her runners having them run a short distance to prove their speed. Once she had a group of about ten including herself, Bobby started giving his run down of the plan. "Alright runners, you guys are the ones who are going to make our efforts worth it. We'll move the barricade up and take care of any eaters who get by. You worthy few run into the buildings together, that are behind the safe line, and bring us back food, water, toilet paper would be sweet, or anything else of value to us, and bring it back to the trucks. Don't shoot unless you have to." He finished his explanation before giving Susie a kiss, hoping it wouldn't be the last, but if it was he managed to get one last in there. Then he turned to his killers. He was obviously leaving behind the less violent, but these were the ones he trained with, had a notable kill count, or were trained with weapons. Now he was going to talk to them. "Alright guys. Things are going to get sucky, not gonna lie. We gotta kill eaters to keep the runners safe. Controlled shots to keep them focusing on us. On the center truck is a gun we got from the armory last month. We finally found a reasonable use for it." He then pointed to two of the guys he wanted on it. "I want you two to work it. One shoots, the other feeds the ammo belt. Crowd control. Don't waste shots just cause its fun to shoot." The gun he was talking about was one of those belt fed automatic machine guns found in helicopters or on tanks. He had mounted it to the center pickup so that it could be used to keep the eater crowd from climbing over each other and the fence. It would also allow the numbers to be kept at a manageable number. Bobby had thought of everything to expect except the person who had just walked through the gate to the town. The look of surprise on both his and Susie's face was visible.
John took off the moment he was allowed to. He was into the woods in seconds and headed off to an area he hadn't hunted in yet. He needed to control the population and over hunting was never good. Pretty quickly he found tracks and he knew he wasn't going to waste any time on hoping to find anything. The tracks weren't fresh but he could make them out. If it lead to anything, he'd find it. After an hour of following the tracks, they started to freshen up but he soon found out it wasn't for a good reason. The deer he was tracking was laying in a mess of bloody mud, fur and flesh. Something had gotten at it and he wasn't going to risk it. His instincts were correct because as he checked the tracks around it belonged to a walker so he headed in the opposite direction. What he found next blew his mind. It was the only thing he actually wanted to find. Specifically the only person he wanted to find.
While the plan was being spoken, Jackson was already picturing how things were going down in his head. From the sounds of it, this wasnt something they had done before, it wasnt something he had even thought of, but part of the reason that Bobby was in charge around here. The plan was solid, it would work, hands down. "You got it, chief. The only hold in this plan I see if if we run into something a little bigger to deal with while were in position. I know most plans these days arent designed around an exit strategy in mind, so you might wanna make sure out killers are well versed in taking down things among the infected. But the plan will work, no doubt in my mind."
The thought had been duely noted. Danica didnt really get the chance to kill anything else other then the infected often, but the few times he had encountered them, they never seemed to be a problem to work into her own strategy. "Yeah, think I have a handle on things, Bobby. But I need to be honest with you, im not used to working with others, but this sounds like its going to go a lot faster than my plans do for when I do this solo. Usually takes me a day or two to get them all, this should be over in a few hours. You dont happen to know the population of the town do you?" But with an agreeable nod, Bobby seemed to divert himself to the gates, obviously needing to take priority over the newcomer before they left. It was something she could look up another time, anyways. Take into account how many others had been killing too, and then add it to her own score.
~~~
The small clearing in the woods had been peaceful, this was a nice time to be outside, and Madison could see exactly why John liked it. Though she and Rey had fellen into a routine of sleeping a lot more ever since they went off on their own, she always appreciated when they did travel early in the morning. But she still didnt care much for the snow on the ground, and shes been living here her whole life.
Madsion had finally seen John out from the corner of her eye, and her face had almost lit up. But the face to face meeting seemed distant when either of them spoke for what seemed like forever. Maybe it was just because it had been months since theyd seen eachother, and John was convinced she wasnt ever coming back, and the truth was, Madison didnt plan on it, so the feeling was mutual. After jumping up from the fallen tree, she stepped forward, closer to him, and finally spoke. "Hey you... Got room for one more?"
~~~
"Open the doors, let her in!" Before he left, Jackson was going to be giving strict unstructions not to let anybody inside the gate until they returned, so it was good timing on the newcomers part. People stopped showing up out of the blue like this already, only a couple times a month at the most, and when they did they definitely werent all alone, so it was a little suspicious. "You have to talk to the chief before you stay here, and were just heading out of town for the day." But looked at Jackson with confidence that she wasnt here to hurt them, and really, it was just one person, so he didnt worry about it too much. That, and she spoke to the chief directly, almost like she knew him.
"Heard you guys had this little place set up down here, and I just had to come check it out for myself. Looks like you really outdid yourselves, im impressed. Now please, dont let me keep you, 'Chief'." Rey spoke to her old friend, thinking that it was the only thing she could consider him at this point. In the very short time they met eachother, he was nothing less of a friend, which was something she considered when she decided to come back here after all this time. "Ill be here for those questions when you get back, dont worry."
Bobby didn't know how to react but he noticed the missing Madison. Then he worried if Madison had died. If she had, he wasn't sure how John would react towards Rey and her father. He decided that his questions were more important than leaving at this second. "Where is she Rey? If she's gone, I won't be able to control John when he sees you." Bobby said but was told she's fine and so he relaxed and got into the truck with his group leaving the town. Bobby sat next to Susie in the middle truck as it drove out of the gate and toward the city. The city was actually small but because of population and size rules, it was counted as a city. The trucks could block up most of the roads in the city so there's wasn't anything to worry about. The biggest buildings in the town were the apartment buildings, being up to four stories tall, or the businesses like the shopping centers and the factories. The only thing they had to worry about was something bigger than the eaters being in the city. Bobby was ready for anything though, except for what was hiding in the city.
John stood in front of Madison, looking confused. He didn't understand why she was alone. He was also angry with her and so he wasn't ready to jump into her arms. He was mad at her because she would just talk to him before leaving. He was mad at her for leaving. He was mad at her for not saying good bye. He had done so much for her and then she just left. He had protected her, killed people for her, and gotten hurt more than once for her. He didn't know how to react to her being here, alone, in the forest outside of the town. He knew he had used Susie because Madison wouldn't just tell him how she felt, but he knew that if they had just talked everything would have worked out. But she didn't, she just left him and for months his blood boiled. He had no answers, no leads, no trail to follow. And now she just shows up. Was he expected to be nice? Pick up where they left off? Or was he allowed to be angry? He didn't care if he was allowed to be angry and just went with it. "What're ya doin' here Maddie? Come to say good bye finally?" He hadn't moved to embrace her like he wanted to. He was angry and that was the way he was going to act. Not hide the problem when it was this obvious.
The bald man sat down on the couch next to his wife and daughter. They had been all across Canada looking for their missing son and brother. They had come from New York, across Canada, and now were restingin this city on their way to Alaska hoping to find him. They had gotten his message when all of their plans had fallen through. The city they were in was dangerous but a small group like them went unnoticed most of the time. "Don't worry. We'll find Bobby." He said to the others. As if on queue, they heard gunshots coming from across town. There was a lot of shooting and so they were going to have to investigate it soon.
"Looks like theres already a lot of them waiting, but there will be more when we get closer, just you wait." Jackson had went on ahead of the chief, with his own men, to check it out for himself. Through the binoculars, there hadnt been too much else other than rotting corpses. Most of them had been long gone, too, which meant their strengh wouldnt be anything to worry about. Probably with a good kick down, they would fall, break something, and wont even be able to get back up. This made things easier then originally planned, but the plan was the same, they just had better odds of it going smoother. It didnt take Bobbt too long before he showed up, whatever happened back at base couldn thave been too important, because he follwoed suit almost immediately. "Hey, chief, I was thinking. We probably dont even need all three trucks. Could choke them here on main street just as easy, look that them..."
It was almost sad, seeing one of the infected fall and get his leg stuck in a storm drain, then as it went to crawl away, its foot just ripped off like it was nothing. Held together by tight muscle tissue that didnt relax after death, so when it degraded it made it weak and brittle. With two good truck placements, they could accomplish the same, and have an extra man taking them out by hand. It would make this even more effeicient, and there wouldnt even be a chance of them getting overwhelmed by stragglers. But Jackson waited until the chiefs go ahead before starting the trucks back up and relaying the message to his team.
~~~
But the reunion hadnt been exactly what Madison was expecting. Though im some level, she knew it wasnt going to turn out as she hoped, but there wasnt even any hint of beliefe in his voice that she was here to stay. She knew that John had been broken when she left, and felt betrayed, but she would never lie to him. Madison hoped he would know that. "I said I needed time to think, so I took time to think. Rey and I, we got closer, closer then I ever thought anybody could get to her. She was just as damaged as I was, only difference is she went over the edge already, and I was just standing on the end. We helped eachother, changed eachother in the last month more than I think we changed since the outbreak. She didnt pull me across that edge, John, I chose to leave with her. I know it was selfish of me, but I didnt know what to do. So I just ran. I wasnt running from you, I was running from what I was becoming. I wanted to be happy again, and not take my feelings out on people."
By this point, Madison knew that there was nothing that could excuse what she did, both John and her knew that. But she really was here to stay, along with Rey, who he might not have gave any care in the world about now. It didnt matter. Madison was here now, and she wasnt going anywhere. When John realizes this by her still being here the next day, and the next day, he would believe her over time. "Things werent going to go back to how they were, because things arent like they were before. We all became a part of a community, and none of us were enemies. We all trade together, we all do what we do to survive together. The world is slowely going back to the way it was before, and its only been what, a year or two since those attacks on the United States? We dont have to worry about who we were, or who were goung to become. Its about who we are now, as a whole. Just because I left, didnt mean I was gone. You knew it was only a matter of time before we seen eachother again. Whether we wanted to or not, the world would be rebuilt, and wed both had played roles in it. You should see some of the different colonies along the east coast. Florida? Was practically untouched. We only seen the ugly, but there is beauty in the world now."
Madison was probably getting ahead of herself, a lot, and talking to much like she usually did, but at least John would be able to see the expression on her face and hear the tone in her voice. She felt alive, and was happy. That should mean more than anything, more than even their friendship meant. She didnt want John to be angry anymore. Madison want him to stop, and look at what he helped build, the town him and Bobby worked to create safety for everyone. The more towns that will come. The progress that they made. Judging by how John was still listening to her, it mustve been doing something. "If you want, I could let you be for now. I know you still like your alone time. Ill be back in town, we can talk more there later." Madison turned to walk away, hoping that he would understand.

Bobby took the binoculars and looked at what Jackson had been talking about. "Sh*t yeah." He said unset his breath. His plan would work better than expected and they could clear the whole city. He revised his plan before telling it to Jackson. "Main street is a good place to hold his thing. We'll still use three trucks, man. Those two go to make a funnel toward us. Your's goes to our back so any coming from behind get the taste of the gun. We push out over time to take the stores so that the runners can go shopping. I think after an hour, the city's our's." He said before they set up the trucks shooting and eaters who got in the way. The shooting attracted more eaters and soon the party began.
Bobby guessed well because it took just over an hour before the dead were dead. Not a single injury, death, or bite. Bobby chuckled, partially from being tired. After a half hour everyone had run out of bullets. They were lucky enough to have a warmer day so during the fight, he was able to remove his jacket without anything to worry about. Spring was near but there could still be snow storms this late into winter. He turned and looked at the pile of goods behind them and laughed louder. They hit the toilet paper mother load. "Alright everyone, no time to relax. Killers go with runners to clear the street. Drivers, care to load up what's already here before following us?" He said to the group. He wanted everyone to stay safe so he wasn't taking any chances. Then he heard calls of someone approaching. Running to the front of the group he saw someone he didn't expect. "Dad? Mom? Cindyrella? Holy sh*t." He said as they approached.
John listened to Madison bit something she said caught his attention. Florida, different colonies, trading. If she was looking him in the eye she would have seen the puzzle falling into place. He didn't talk to Joseph but he listened. He had heard, in passing, the man talk about a caravan that he went to often. How they had been to many different towns just like their own. As Madison turned away, John figured it out. "Joseph knew the whole time?" He said to her back. The anger seething in his voice was audible to both of them. He was angrier than the day Joseph said that they had left. Without even getting his answer, John marched back to the town. He was at the gate within minutes despite it being quite a walk. Despite getting to the town so quickly, the ones guarding the gate were under orders not to open the gates. "Joseph, let me in so I can f*ckin' kill ya! Yer a liar n I'm sorry I ever let you out a that cage! You owed me yer life n now I'm collectin'!" He shouted over the walls for everyone to hear. He didn't care that they all thought he was crazy. He was. The guards stood their grounds on not letting John in, so he was left outside to stew in his anger which was making it worse.
Frank, Sarah, and Cindy waited for the shooting to stop before leaving the apartment. When they got to the street and saw the herd still moving toward something, they decided to wait for it to be safe. It soon became clear that someone was clearing the dead out of the city. Once things quieted down they stepped out and were met by the squad clearing out the city. Oddly enough, their leader was the very person they were looking. "Well how about this. The very son we were looking for. Ain't that right, hun?" The older bald man who was Bobby's father said with a smile on his face. His mom, who's hair was more gray than he remembered, was almost in tears of joy. His sister though didn't care for the childhood nickname Bobby called her upon first sight, but smiled after she scowled. It was odd that a family had managed to survive, but anyone who knew Bobby's dad wouldn't be surprised. "You always were the toughest old guy I knew." Bobby said as he shook his father's hand and hugged his mom and sister.

It was a lot after then expected. Jackson felt progress, and the rest of he cleanup would be easy. So long as they returned back here every now and then to make sure there hadnt been any newcomers of the undead, they could keep it clear, and start cleaning it up, once it was picked off the bone. When Jackson seen the group, he heard their story, and their reunion with Bobby, who was apparently their son. Whatever the case may be, he felt the mood, and made a choice. "Hey chief, take them back to camp, Susie and I have the rest covered here, im sure. Go, brother." Jackson made a nod at Susie, who then jumped back into action. The plan wasnt over, the town wasnt completely safe yet, even if the easy part was done.
"I think this is where im suppose to show you what I can really do, but these fleshbags are making it too easy." The bulk had been disposed of, and the others already began to stock up, but they needed to pick this place clean, and to do that, make sure every single last one of the infected were out of the picture. Danica lead the smaller group of scavengers, including Susie, down the street, holding a machete in her hand. "Hey! Come on! I can smell you from here you gutterslugs!" Jogging down the street yelling had attracted the attention of whatever undead remained, and they were the slowest, easier to control. Within a couple of minutes, there had been at least thirty of them coming from all directions, but what maybe looked like a dire situation, this was how business was taken care of. One by one, Danica lured them her direction, and took them out, spinning round and clearly enjoying herself. This was the moment she had been been waiting for.
~~~
"Yeah, hes probably talking to her right now. Im sorry we made you do this, Joseph. I mean, dad." She was never good at calling him dad, for different reasons, but knew that he accepted it. "She just really needed to make sure he was okay, but she didnt want to talk to him. Your the reason she decided to come back in the first place, convinced her that she needed to talk to John before it was too late. I really hope this wasnt all a mistake." Joseph shook his head, and stood up from the bed in his trailer. "No no, he'll understand I did what I did for you two, for Madison the most, for her sake. It might take him time to realize that being with the people you care about is more important than being angry, and he might not ever talk to me again, but he will understand, im almost sure of it."
It was then there had been a bang at the door, and Rey quickly turned around and opened up to see the blond guy from the gate standing there, looking like that had a problem. "Sir, Mr. Doucette, Johns at the gate waiting for you. Hes not looking to talk, either..." The worried look on Stevens face made things uneasy. Something was about to go down. "Let him in. If you dont, hes going to come in anyways, and I know your snipers arent the wall arent prepared to shoot their own." Steven nodded, knowing that even though this was going against Bobbys orders. Joseph knew that if they didnt let him in, things would get a lot worse than they already were.
Walking to the middle of town, Joseph waited for the gates to open, and for him and John to finally come and finish things. "Hes going to kill you, you know that, right?" Joseph could see the look on his daughters face, and knew that she was right. "Hes going to try. And hes going to succeed because he has something I dont have left in me anymore. The rage doesnt flow through my blood anymore." Joseph knew that John was out of control at this point. But he also knows that if he kills Joseph, the others in this camp arent going to let him live. If this was what John wanted, then so be it.
Bobby had a job to do and that came first. No matter who he came across, he had people to take care of. "No, Jackson, I have a job to do." He said as he checked with his family. "Chief huh? What next you got a girlfriend too? Let us help. I can kill them as good as you. Cindy can carry stuff, right? And your mom can help too. We'll carry our weight." He said, not knowing about Susie and offering to help. The McKay's went through the town, knowing they'd catch up later, focusing on the job at hand. Everyone was impressed with Danica and her fighting style. It only took a little while longer until the city was cleared and the three trucks were filled. Then they all headed back to town. What was waiting for them was less unexpected then what Bobby found in the city. He'd have to introduce Susie to his family later, after the trouble in town was taken care of.
John stormed through the gate. He dropped his gear as he strode in. He was going in with his bare hands. He was going to make it personal, close, and it wouldn't be pretty. Mid step, John grabbed Joseph by the collar of his shirt and whirled him around until Joseph was pinned to a wall. "Time fer that talk ya kept sayin' we were gonna have ta have. You kept 'er from me. You miserable old sh*t!" He then struck Joseph with his fist. Only once, he was going to get a point across. "Ya knew the whole time. Ya lied ta me. Ya misused my trust. It didn't help sh*t. Fer somethin' ta work out, everybody needs ta know what's goin' on!" He hit Joseph once more before continuing. "If I had known the trouble you'd cause me I'd a left ya in that cage n never gone lookin' fer Rey!" He said what he did, and he didn't care who's feelings he hurt by saying it. This time he didn't hit Joseph he just flung him to the ground and walked away. "Hope ya sleep well with yerself." Those were his last words before walking out of the still open gate, taking his things with him. He was leaving and didn't know if he'd come back as long as Joseph was still alive or within the walls.
Somewhere in Texas near the Mexican border Paul had a small group of men with him. Not one of them could control their own actions. It was odd to Paul but once they were infected, they followed him almost everywhere and he didn't have to say commands. Everything was done by thinking and he enjoyed his new ability. He was working out a way to infect a whole city he was keeping an eye on. He had a selection of parasite eggs which he started feeding into their water supply. Once the citizens of the city drank the water, they would become a member of his army. Things were getting ugly for anyone in Paul's path. He wanted his empire more than he wanted the world to be fixed. He knew once the world was fixed, he'd have no place and might be hunted down by authorities. This dream ensured that he'd always be in control.
This was her warmup, but it wasnt long before the undead stopped coming, and Danica just started to break a sweat. The machete probably wouldnt even need shapening, with how mushy the zombies were. One last call out, he cried for joy, very elaborately. "Ladies and gentleman, thats all for the show tonight! Autograph signings are in the back!" She and everyone knew that she was only playing around, but the final call out to be sure there wasnt anymore, and within seconds, it was clear there definitely wasnt. Looking at Susie, she seen the others getting ready to head back to town, and decided to be friendly. After all, she was in a good mood. "Hey, we need to do this more often, right? Wait til you see me with an LMG! Keep feeding me a belt, and ill take out the entire town next time." Danica had been overeggasturating, but this was the time for celebration after their achievment.
~~~
Rey wanted to stop him, but knew that this is what Joseph wanted, and could take a beating. The moment John pulled a knife, or something worse, she wouldnt have a choice because it meant things were going down another road. But after had taken the beating, Rey didnt even look at John. It wouldnt help anyting if she fought back, only make things worse. This was between him and her dad. But after seeing Madison at the doors, Rey knew things were over, because he didnt even say anything to her.
Madison didnt speak either, not after seeing Joseph on the ground, and not after seeing the look on Johns face. She knew that he too went over the edge, and it would take a lot more than a kiss to tell him things were going to be going back to normal. She came back for John, not anybody else, and if he felt the need to take his anger out, that was perfectly understandable. But taking it out on somebody who was on the same side wasnt the right way to do it. She didnt kniw if he was going to come back, but after seeing what he did here, in the safety of the walls, in front of everybody without any regards for anyones feelings but his own, she was sure he wouldnt be coming back. Madison watched as he walked away through the treeline, and seen the trucks from Bobbys run come back moments later.
The entire story would have to be told to Bobby and Jackson, and everybody. Rey was going to make sure that it was her to told them everything, not just because Joseph had been still laying nearly unconscience on the ground, but because she needed to be completely honest with everybody here if she was going to stay here with Madison. They would hold a meeting, but for now, Rey needed to see to it that her father got the medical help he needed. Hes been through a lot already, but he wasnt immune to brutality like she was. He was still human. Madison looked at Rey and her father, then to Bobby, and spoke. "You just missed him.", knowing that Bobby had it figured out the moment he saw Joseph on the ground battered.

Things had gotten out of hand for Bobby and so he had to regain control. "Fine he's gone. There's no talking him back. If he wants to come back he's going to have to answer to Joseph for what he did. For now let's take care of the old man." He said as the medics came over to take care of Joseph. Now that Rey was back, if she stayed, she could take John's place as the hunter. If she wasn't staying he figured they could work something out. The town wasn't helpless without John and everyone knew it. They were thankful for how good he was at it though. Once the medics took Joseph, there wasn't anything else he could do for the man so he started helping the group unload the trucks. Everyone in the town that was near the trucks could see the mountain of toilet paper. It was such a welcomed sight that there were actually cheers. Bobby couldn't help but smile from the feeling of pride he got from that. Once everything was unloaded, and inventory was taken. This involved a few people, Bobby included. This took him away from his family but it was a job he had to do. He couldn't slack now just because someone knew showed up. Susie stepped up to help Bobby's family get situated. "I'll help you guys get set up with a place to sleep. It's pretty simple but if you don't know where to go, it's not." She was a bit nervous as she led them to the apartment building most of the town stayed at. It was basically at the center of town which made things easier. Behind the front desk were all the keys. They had found them on a maintenence worker who had gotten stuck in the building when the outbreak started. After going through all of the keys, they found which went to each apartment. She gave them a room down the hall from Bobby's. "It's the top floor, just down the hall from where Bobby stays." She explained. Frank chuckled. "Typical Bobby, one leg short and walking twice as far." He said as he took the key and she grabbed one for Cindy. "I'm sure you want you're own. Other side of the hall." She gave Cindy her key which put Bobby's family stretched across the top floor but near each other. She then led them to where they were going to stay. His family entered their apartments and settled in, unpacking their bags and relaxing. Bobby would be to them soon. Once he was done doing inventory, Susie was outside waiting for him. "Got your family set up. Never thought I'd have to meet another boyfriend's parents again." She joked now that she was relaxed again. "I shoulda warned you. There's no way my dad is going to die from eaters. We just got split up and I told him where I was planning to go until I met you and started the town. Lucky he didn't misses us entirely." He said as they went up to the apartment. They got Cindy before heading to the apartment their parents were in. Once they were all together Bobby introduced Susie to his family. "First about that girlfriend you were asking about. This is Susie." He knew his dad always knew something before anyone else, which is what made him a great detective. Bobby didn't need to know anything about his family's adventure because Bobby knew how bad it could be.
Outside of a small town in New Mexico Paul stood outside the town with his army. Men, women, and children all holding guns behind their leader. Paul was going to test his army before going back to Canada. He knew his soldiers would infect anyone who couldn't fight back inside and his army would grow even bigger while destroying the ones with weapons. The explosion at the front gate started the battle. Paul's army rushed in, screaming and shooting. He could control everything about these people except the screaming they did while fighting. Paul didn't even raise his weapons just sending out commands with his mind. He watched as people were horrified by the infected forcing a parasite down people's throats. The fighting died down as quickly as it started and the screams of those fighting back soon stopped. He knew that his army was going to ruin the people who stopped him before. It was time for war.

Both of the girls went with Joseph and the medics. They had a real hospital, too, though it was only one floor and didnt really have all that much to begin with. They didnt usually have a lot of hurt people, so finding a place close to the door was easy. They all knew what they were doing. "I shouldve done something. I couldve stopped this, ive taken people like John before. He wasnt even armed." But Madison quickly rejected her thought. "Probably, but it wouldnt have helped any. Your dads gonna be fine, you know him. Hed taken this before." This was true, he has, many times. This time he was just a lot older then he was before. Torture was one thing, this was just brutality.
"You can stay in my trailer until im out of here. By then im sure youll be gone, dont need to stick around any longer than you have to." The girls felt terrible, but couldnt blame Joseph for thinking like that. The doctor came in to look at him, and immediately began perfoming several checks to find out exactly what was wrong. "This would be easier if I didnt have you two breathing down my back, ya know? The old guy needs his rest anyways." The girls and Joseph recognised the doctor, it was Simon. But there wasnt a need for a how do you do, they just left the room, Rey nodding to her father when she left.
Madison still couldnt get over what John did. Her leaving was one thing, but taking out all that anger on Reys father didnt do anything. Not he was gone, so it wasnt like he was trying to prove anything. It was her fault, and she knew it, but there wasnt any point in passing the blame. What happened had happened, and they needed to just go on from here. She came here and did what she needed to do, so now it was time to decided whether or not they should stay or not.
There was a calm to not needing to drop their weapons, everybody in the town got along good enough not to need to. This was always good, because if something happened, they all had a weapon near them, unlike other towns they had seen. But Rey figured if they were going to stay, she needed to get their supply for the town, a haul of uncommon goods from all over the united states. They had it stored a few miles away, near the edge of the lake, inside of a hollowed out tree and covered with snow. Since the last falling, you wouldnt able find it, youd have to know where it was.
"Id like to stay, not just for my dad, but because theres nothing else for me out there. Not anymore. I dont have to fight anymore, and I like it. You dont need to either. We can just live now, help out with town. Your kind a jack of all trades, and I know id come in handy for hunting. Im sure John was one of their hunters, and, yeah." Madison listened, sitting inside of the trailer. It was a good idea, and she wanted to stay too. "Then we could tell your dad." Rey smiled, which she didnt do often. "Yeah. We will. Eventually. We should gather up some people and go get our supplies. The sooner the better, its already burried under snow. Lets go find Jackson"
Agreeing, the girls went to the front of the towns entrance, and looking for the man they seen before. "Wheres Bobby at? We need a vehicle. We decided to stay, and we have some supplies wed like to take back, im sure youll all appreciate it once you see it." Jackson didnt know the one that was with her, but he recognized Madison from awhile back, and knew that her word was legit. "If give you a truck myself, but id rather put it through bobby first. What were yall ladies bringing back?" She looked at Rey, who then listed off things, boringly, as to be funny. "Military grade grenade launchers, a few creats of twenty five militerers for them, about seventeen fully customizable SCARH and SCARL assault rifles, along with their respective ammo and attachments, uh. That sort of thing. Jackson, was it?" Jackson, took a breath, and walked off to find Bobby. These girls were crazy, but if they were willing to help, they were willing to help.
The two of them had spent a lot of time gathering firearms and explosives for the soul purpose of killing who got in their way. They just waited for that man who attacked them last year to get in their way. Maybe this was their way making up for leaving before. None the less, this was an artillity at their disposal, and it was much better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Jackson came to where Bobby was and told him what was up. Bobby just nodded and turned to his family to inform him that he was going. His job was never done. "Sorry mom and dad, work calls." He threw his jacket on and left the room. Susie decided to go with Bobby to catch up with Madison, even if they weren't close before she left. It would still be nice to talk to her. Bobby was going for security mostly but this was also to catch up with Madison because they had left off on a sour note. Susie was always impressed by how fast and well Bobby took stairs. She always figured that someone with the same disability as Bobby would have been in trouble these days but he proved her won't every time he ran up and down stairs or chased someone or something. He was just as good of a survivor as John was but he seemed more relaxed. Especially lately.
The two rounded the corner to greet the girls before going to get the truck. "Hello ladies. I hear you got the town a present?" He said while waving them over to the bigger of the trucks so the four would fit. "One of you are driving though. Makes most sense since you two know where we're going." Bobby climbed into the back with Susie and rested his head back to relax, something he hadn't been able to do yet today. Susie sat next to him, resting her head on his shoulder and holding his hand in her's. "So big guns? Is the world that bad out there or are you planning something?" Bobby asked hoping it was just for the worst case scenario. He knew that the worst case was that man coming back with an army. Everyone knew that was the worst case, but what was really happening was worse than they could expect. Soon they were going to see what that man had been planning all winter.

"I really do think this is a good idea though. Weve already given some of the other groups an advantage. Most of them dont have what your buying, so were really just hoarding this, which is what I didnt want to do in the first place. But you had a reason. Now, I hope it pays off, but im actually terrified of the day we need to use all of it..." Madison spoke to Rey when the man went to fetch their ride. She knew it made her uneasy, but it actually made her more comfortable knowing this town would have all of this. Still, it was a lot, more then Rey seen in years. It was a lot even before the outbreak, a stupid amount of explosives and high firearms. If Rey and Madison had been in the gun trade years ago, they would have enough money to pile on for a king sized bed. "Dont worry about that. This town needs this. I know they do. You and I both knows its only a matter of time before something goes wrong. When it does, were going to be more prepared then we need to be, and its not going to be a problem."
Between the fantasy of actually firing the grenade launcher and taking town four houses in about fifteen seconds, Rey felt they were going to be strong enough to the point where maybe, just maybe, this town could be that army. But she had no interest in taking over, just taking the spot from anybody who thinks they themselves can. Her thoughts were pushed aside when Bobby came out and greeted them with straight to business. It was good to see him again, but they could catch up on the way. Madison was the one driving.
"Yeah, pretty big. Big enough to put a few of these colonies off the map if we had to. I was speading them around, in case you know who showed up. He didnt, so, well, theyre a little silly now. But being prepared is what keeps people alive, especially when the threat could possibly be something worse than what we faced before..." It would be good to know that they were all on the same page. Rey had no clue when he was coming back, but if he did, they needed to be ready. She honestly wanted scouting parties to relay back information, but that would be too much manpower. This was a failsafe.
"Now. Probably heard enough military grade bulls*** in your days to last you a lifetime, so ill keep it sweet. Twentyfive milimeter grenade launchers, we have about a half a dozen of those, and at least a hundred rounds. Thats the main squeeze, the rest is a cherry on the top. Im not even gonna tell you what I planned on doing with it, because it wouldve been a waste of ammunition. But they werent selling, nobody needed them, or even wanted them. The ones that did werent willing to pay well enough for them. But this isnt business, this is because were friends." Both Bobby and Susie probably would have thought Rey was crazy. Not the fact she had all of this stored away for a rainy day like this, but because she wasnt her old self anymore. Neither was Madison. The two had shared eachother personalities, the good in them, and cut out the ugly. Both of them were so sure of things, but still had the experience, and then some. There was still a lot Bobby didnt know about either of the, Rey especially.
Madison drove, knowing exactly where they were going, Rey talking the entire time. She was talking a lot, something that even she never seen before today. It was just the two of them for so long, and she never needed to say much. It was nice seeing her ineract, and be social, even if it was about about power. But she wasnt using this power for herself, she was sharing it, and even though calling Bobby a friend was least expected, put them on good terms for the future. Which is where they all needed to be if they wanted to see more progress. "Hey, enough about guns, babe. How have things been with you two? I see your running the place now, Bobby. Jackson calling you chief. I seen him before. You mustve gotten these people from all over."

Bobby listened while staring at the inside of his eyelids. Breaks like these and some nights were the only times he got to rest his eyes, which he did every second he could. He nodded after she listed each item to let her know he was listening. When she talked about the grenade launchers, a smile spread across his face. He had used one once while in Iraq but it was more a life or death situation not for fun. If he could have had more practice with it, he would have enjoyed himself. He knew that she wanted to use it for fun but didn't know what her target would be. His was a row of cars. When she asked about him and Susie, he picked his head up to talk to her. "Well after you two exited stage left, John shut down. I picked up the slack while he went out looking for you and bringing back food. Between your dad and I, things picked up quickly. He brought most of the people here, they just seemed to rally behind the spry guy's command. I just had ideas and everyone liked them. Classes to help us, jobs to keep us busy, and always knowing where to get food. I owe luck to pay of everything paying off. Like the city to the north, if the eaters hadn't been so rotten they might have been a problem. It all just worked because we worked together."
"The only reason I took on the leadership role was because it was expected of me. People came to me with an issue, and I rose to the occasion with a solution. I think it has a lot to do with how I feel about it all. I don't come first, even if everyone looked up to me. I've been given a job and I don't plan on screwing it up or giving it up when a lot of people look to me to do it. Man, is it rough some times, though." He said as he thought about all the work he's had to do. He helped build the walls, stock up the armory, stock up the food, killed the Loch Ness Monster, and helped clear and defend the area. Some of that was this week. He could tell they were almost close because Madison had slowed down a bit. It was always a sign that you were close even before the outbreak.
Paul's army had been growing as he matched north from New Mexico. As the army grew, he took his time getting them north. The army was near a hundred people. There weren't nearly enough people left in the world to have a true army but Paul had something that was impressive. They were getting close to the border and from there it wouldn't be long until they were at the town. If no one was there he'd move on. But if his enemies had stayed he wanted them dead. He counted the days before that might happen. Until then he kept his army moving. The parasite made it so that the host wasn't hungry or thirsty but they looked sicker each day. He knew that his army wouldn't last forever unlike him. Well until he died that is. The queen parasite in him needed him to eat and drink which allowed him to look like he normally did. Paul was rare because Tricell had tried to get the queen into a few test subjects after they discovered the parasite in Spain. Paul was the only one they had found that the queen latched onto.

At the same time Rey listened to how Bobby and the others got the town going, Madison was driving. She knew where they were going, and were nearly there. "You did it because you seen what we all seen. Something good to come out of it all. Not sure how many other colonies youve seen down in the United States, but some of them are run like worker camps, slaves, only they do a good job at making the people they ensalve feel like its all for a good purpose. Some groups are all just religous nutjobs, others arent much different then the place you got going. With out much work people themselves put into doing this, its amazing to think where were going to be a year from now, or how about five..."
The truck came to a stop, and Rey was the first one out, moving around to the drivers side and opening the door. Immediately after, she went for the direction or their shipment, which was actually right behind the truck, the park job done well enough so they wouldnt have lift too much very far. Kicking away the snow from the branches, Rey drew her knife, and waited. Within a second, and infected lunged out, to be stabbed in the head and hauled off to the side. "Just in case.", she grinned to Bobby and Susie. After that, a crate was hauled out, and she opened it up, exposing the first pair of Grenade Launchers. "Shouldnt take any longer than ten minutes."
It took only a little more than that to load everything into the truck between the three of them, Madison really just watching, not being able to do any heavy lifting. They all udnerstood though, she frustration on her face of watching others do work as painful, but she used the opportunity to wander from the truck, looking at the water. It was so peaceful. She missed the look of it at this time of year, where the ice had been starting to form around the sides, but wouldnt get any thicker. "We got married, by the way. Not that it really matters, but, whatever. One of the towns in Vegas did it. Figured its something you might wanna know. In case you were wondering."
Rey smiled, just watching Madison. She seemed so peaceful. "Come on. Were heading back." She spoke, waving to try and get her attention. In that moment, Rey had felt some around her neck, and she was pulled up into the snowcovered trees. Madison had turned around just in time to see it happen, yelling out at the top of her lungs and pulling out her pistol. "Rey!" She was going to fire, but didnt even know where to shoot, even if she did want to try, not worrying about hitting her. But she was nowhere, just like she vanished up into the trees. There was something out here, she knew it.
