"We were on the run for awhile. Had an incident on the east coast, cant ever go back there again. West coast isnt really my thing, ao thats why we moved to the middle of the United States. Its comfortable here. I miss the water, but least nobody knows me. I actually made a couple of friends here in the city, but I dont keep up with them much. Nero doesnt like when we get close to people. Truthfully, neither do I, but I need to have some sort of a social life, you know? When im with my friends, im not me. I made up a face, and a new body, just to be safe. You noticed my eyes, I dont normally forget to change them, but when im turning into an animal, its not like I ever need to." It felt going being honest. The whole time, Kayla had been worried that she wouldnt fit in with them, but here they were, sitting on a couch and eating food together, like friends who knew eachother their whole lives.
"I can do a lot of other things to, not just people, or animals. Its just not something I usually do because I dont know how to project my powers like Nero does. Theres probably more I can do that I havent even thought of yet. That whole dinosaur thing was all you. I like how you two have opposite powers. Fire and ice. Its cute. Not cute, but just badass. Well its cute too. You know what I mean. Theres a sort of balance there." After a good plate of food, Kayla had been asked about where her brother was. She knew he was doing something related to the bag of money they stole, but didnt exactly know what, or where. But before she could even answer, the knock at the door came. Though a little out of the ordinary as it was, Chalrie was the one to answer it.
As the door open, Julie stood, looking at the flame. "Hey, is Denise home? Wait, why are you in her apartment, she didnt tell me she knew you two, and whos that?" Kayla stood up from the couch, knocking the plate onto the floor, nearly breaking it if it werent for the carpet. It was one of her friends. She usually didnt just drop by, always called first. "I tried to call, but there was no answer. Oh my god, is something wrong?!" Julie pushed passed the flame, feeling like there had been a problem. Kayla didnt know what to do. She say anytning, because Julie would know by her voice. That was one thing she was never good at changing, if she really even could. All she could do was hope that Clarlie and Cassie could handle the situation, as she stood in front of her friend, unaware that it was even her in her real body. Nothing would give it away, other then the voice, so she just kept quiet, and tried to stay calm.

Charlie's eyes went wide as he realized what was happening. He needed to help Kayla keep her identity. So he reacted quickly. As she tried to get past Cassie, he blocked them both out with a wall of ice. "Sorry! You can't come in here! We're talking to your friend!" He shouted through the ice before turning to Kayla. "Change. I've got your back. That wall's crazy, though." He chuckled as he stood with Kayla. They could play it off that Kayla was always who she became no matter what her friend thought she saw. It would take charm and confidence to make anything believable. After a little while Kayla had turned into who her friend thought she was. Now Charlie let down the wall and let Cassie and the friend in. Cassie had done a good job calming get friend down giving some false story which she explained without giving herself away. "I just finished telling your friend here that you were telling us about what you saw today. We were just making sure that you were safe because we didn't know your friend. We just wanted to make sure that it wasn't an attack to cover their trails." Cassie said taking in the new look Kayla had on.
"Alright Denise, we'll be across the hall where you said he fled to." Charlie said more to give Kayla alone time with her friend, if it was just a quick thing. They would go back after a little while like they had looked into the apartment. Cassie cut him off after they entered the apartment. She wanted to talk to him alone and this was her chance. He was pinned between her and the door, forced to have the conversation. "I guess we're cute?" She said. There was more behind her words, making them very weighted. He just smiled because they were friends but with some serious attraction between them. He didn't know what to say. "Say something, dork." She said to him, holding him in place. He could feel the heat of her hand on his chest. He figured she was warm like he was cold. "What do you want me to say? I'm obviously a dork who isn't good with words. I, uh, well I obviously like you as more than a friend but I don't know what to do. These powers always kept me from having girlfriends or anything. So I don't..." He was rambling but she cut him off. She pulled him in and kissed him. She could feel his cold lips against her's. She was warmer than him by a lot but he didn't care because it felt good to him. When they pulled away she spoke. "Shut up dork. I like you too. Though don't let this mess up training. I'll still kick your butt." She smirked before heading back to Kayla. Charlie stood there dumb founded before following her a second later.

The thing was, Kayla had been a terrible liar. If she was good at lying, she wouldnt need to hide, and they wouldnt have been in this entire mess with moving away from places shed been in the first place. But she had to, she just had to, she couldnt run and she couldnt explain herself. The younger form she took was a little different, she had been shorter, and since the change was so unexpected and quick, it caught he offguard. "Okay, something is wrong, you need to tell me. Your not acting right. Where your dad at anyways, we should be off work by now. And what are you actually doing with the flame and the freeze?" Kayla let out a sigh, and then sat back down on the couch.
"Hes gone, I dont know where he is." The context made it sound like he was missing, and the tone made it sound like it was serious and she was upset about it. But the words were true, Nero wasnt here, and she really didnt know where he was. Anything else would be Julie assuming. "Wow, oh my god, something really is wrong if you got the superheros invovled. Are you okay?" The fact that Julie really cared for her made things worse, but this was nobodies fault but her own, and Kayla needed to just accept the consequences of her actions. As Julie sat down beside her, she reached over and gave her friend a hug.
The worst part was what happened next. As her arms went around her, Kayla felt something happen. She was changing back into herself, only she wasnt the only one changing, it was her friend too. She hugged back, but as she pulled away, Kayla looked at her friend, seeing what she was looking at herself, and Julies panicked when she saw this other girl sitting in front of her. Nevermind not even noticing herself change. "Wh- who are you? Denise? Whats going on, how are you doing that?" In the next moment, Kayla jumped up from the couch, and ran for the door.
As it opened, she seen Cassie and Chalrie in the hallway, and didnt know what to say. She needed to get out of here. Kayla quickly ran for the backdoor of the apartment, stripping clothes as she did, and then jumped outside into the same do she was used to turning into. She didnt go far, just into the ally, walking back and forth, calming herself down. It would only be a matter of time before things got even worse than they already were, she couldnt fix this, she wasnt confident enough. Maybe telling her the truth was a good idea, but she wouldnt understand. Nobody could possibly understand.
Julie had been at the apartment door, fiddling with the doorknob to open it up, and after seeing the freeze and the flame, she yelled at them. "She just turned into somebody else. Where did she go? You two need to tell me right now, and dont you dare lie to my face." Julie had been serious, things were happening too quickly, and she just wanted answers. No, not answers, the truth, the whole truth, but it didnt seem like anybody was going to give it to her. It didnt help that she didnt even have her own face anymore, but as too worked up to even notice.

Charlie reacted first because he saw something was wrong. Just because he wasn't good with words, didn't mean he didn't know when something was wrong. "I got her." He said as he chased after Kayla. After a few steps he saw her clothes on the floor. He gathered them up before finding her outside as the dog who got his attention in the first place. "Hey calm down. These things happen. You just have to stay focused. Just imagine that your powers aren't harmful. Just because your brother wants you to stay hidden from others, doesn't mean that it's what's best. People need each other or else they aren't happy." He explained to her to try and calm her down. He saw what happened when he was younger and his powers hurt someone because he had trouble controlling them. "We're here for you. Our kind stick together. That's why the school was made. Here's your clothes." He set them down before making ice walls around them and turned around so he didn't see her. He helped her calm down while Cassie was inside taking care of Julie.
Cassie cut off Julie before she could chase after Kayla. "You need to calm down. Freaking out is not helping anything." Cassie snapped her fingers. The sparks flew from her fingertips. Cassie was frustrated at Julie even though Julie didn't look like Julie. "People are different these days and pitching a fit because someone you knew ends up being different is rude." She used intimidation to calm Julie down. Once she had calmed down, she turned back to her normal self. "Good. Now that your calm I'll explain it to you. Kayla is special like me and Charlie. Yes we have names. She is special in the way she can transform into other people or things. She's scared of her powers and so she hid herself from you and most others. Originally me and Charlie were here to find the thing making those monsters. She was helping us and before you came barging in we were having dinner. If you have a problem with who she is though, you aren't a good friend." Cassie explained to Julie using guilt and the truth to influence Julie. If Cassie didn't have fire powers, you'd swear she could brainwash people. Once they were done talking, Charlie came back into the apartment.

The fact that she had little knowledge about the superheroes in the first place was the only reason Julie had been freaked out. The flame had a point, and she explained this pefectly, but now Julie seemed like she was entirely at fault. She was though, making a big deal, but on some level, it was exapected and couldnt be helped. She only knew what she seen on TV, or the very few times in real life. Somebody turning into somebody else was just something she hadnt seen before, but really, people shooting fire and ice from their hands, and levetating wasnt really all that much freaky, and she accepted them. So she would accept this too.
By this time, Kayla had been dressed and following Charlie, but she was still a little nervous. This was just new to her. It was one thing showing her true self to the superheroes, but not anybody else. When she seen her friend Julie though, she didnt seem upset, or even mad. Kayla didnt even have to say anything before the girl talked. "Your still you... Im sorry for overreacting. I get why you lied to me, but..." Thats when Kayla spoke, letting things take a good turn. "Im still me. I havent lied to you about who I was on the inside. I hope were still friends, Julie."
Making friends with regular humans was a step towards being free, and not hiding from the world. So much has changed today alone, and Kayla was happy, none the less. Things turned out a lot better then she was expecting. "Nero isnt my dad, though. Hes my brother. And hes like me too, cept instead of shapeshifting, he just disappears. He really isnt here though, hes gone out. Shouldve been back by now, actually." All of what happened had put Kayla concept of time in full tilt, and forgot about her brother being gone for longer then he planned to. He never left her alone this long before. But she didnt worry, he could take care of himself, and he knew that she could too.
Just then, Julie had hugged her again, feeling the change happen yet again. She looked over herself, but before she could get a good feel for the change, she went back to being herself. Kayla looked at Charlie and Cassie, with light in her eyes. "I think I figured it out. People touched me before, but projecting my power must be something to do with emotion." Google only had so much answers, none of which really covered any of this in depth, and definitely wasnt very accurate. If she did decide to join the school, she could test her powers, and unlock more potential.
The sound of a phone ringing caught everyones attention, and when they turned to face the ringing, Julie started to talk. "Hey, mom. No, im just out with...Danica. Yeah, im coming home soon, dont worry. Okay, bye." Soon as she hung up the phone, she spoke again to Kayla, and her friends. "Okay, I gotta go, but we definitely need to hang out sometime tomorrow, after class." Once again, Julie hugged her friend, who smiled and said bye as well. It was interesting that she didnt say anything about why she wasnt in school herself, given the now obvious age difference, but figured this was more part of acceptance, and Julie didnt ask questions. When the three had been alone, they went back inside the apartment to finish eating.
"That was the first time a close call like that was handled, things really got blown out of proportion quick, and dont think I wouldve handled it had you two not been here. Thank you for everything today. I think im going to join the school with, if thats still okay? After what happened today, I dont think I could go back to living under a rock again. Nero will understand, ill talk to him when she gets back. You two dont have to stick around and wait, but if you want, we could rent a movie, or something. I dont know what you do on your spare time, aside from train at the school." Kayla was happy, and wanted her new friends to stay as long as they could, but didnt want to keep them from anything. Nero would have to be home soon, and it wouldve been nice to have their support in her decision when she told him. They just needed something to do while they waited.

Charlie kicked his feet up on the coffee table as they flipped through the channels on the TV. Cassie sat in the middle of the couch. He didn't care what time they got back and Cassie didn't want to go back because she didn't want to listen to her big sister. The group was relaxing and trying to have a good time until Nero got home. Eventually he would be home and everything would work itself out. After a while of watching TV, the news came on and replayed what had happened earlier in the day. Charlie watched proudly as they showed him killing the monsters. After a few minutes he remembered that the monsters were once people and went to change it. Before he got to the button to change the channel, something new popped up on the TV. "Something new has just surfaced. Reports are coming in that something is happening in the center of downtown. From what we understand, a group of robotic figures are attacking. It seems today is a dark day for this city. Are we ever going to be allowed peace?" The reporter said and soon after filming of the attack took over the screen.
Charlie jumped up and got ready to head out the door. As he opened the door, he turned to see if Cassie was following him when something else came onto the TV. "Oh what's this? It seems a hero is on the scene. We haven't seen this man before and he seems to be fighting them all on his own." Charlie saw the man start the fight. He looked a little older than Charlie and a lot harrier. He had messy hair, scruffy face, and a lot of body hair. He only had on a white tee shirt, blue jeans, and boots. He was also one heck of a fighter. "Might as well help him." Charlie said as he went out the door. Cassie waited for a second before turning to Kayla. "If you don't want to come, we'll come back for you. Promise." Cassie said before she went off to fight.
Grayson had chased after the engineer who kept making the robots. The engineer had built a large robot over on the east coast. Gray had taken that one out but he had already had a few more made. Gray had chased his attacks west. He was trying to stop the mad man before anymore damage could be done but each time he stopped an attack, it seemed the engineer had more robots than last. Grayson was something of a super miracle. He had multiple powers, not impossible but wildly unheard of. Gray could teleport and his bones had super hardened into something heavier and stronger than metal. As the fight started, he was fighting a small army of the robots. Sometimes locals would help him, but for the most part he was on his own. Gray had already destroyed two of the mechanical menaces when an ice boy showed up to the party and offered help, right before a good looking pyro chick started helping too.

This time was different. Kayla would have definitely come, but Nero was already late, and they were expecting him anytime now. If she wasnt here when he was, and seeing how late it was already getting, he wouldnt know what to think. It wasnt so much respect for her brother as it was not wanting to get in the way. She wasnt trained to fight. Definitely not robots. If she went, it would just be to watch, and she could do that on the TV or the rooftop, without risking herself. "I dont think id be able to help, besides, he seems to have it under control as it is. Nero will be home soon. I can talk to him before you two get back. Just be safe!" Kayla didnt really need to say the last bit, but she did anyways, and sent them on their way in a hurry.
Back to the TV, within a matter of minutes, she seen Charlie and Cassie doing their thing on top of the new superhero. From her thoughts, the newcomer had something to do with the recent attacks, it wasnt just a coincidence. Increased number of threats the same day he shows up, not a coincidence at all. As she watched the fighting on the TV, Kayla smiled, knowing that some day, she would actually be like them. Suddenly, the door burst open, but nobody was there. Kayla was about to shift and run into the kitchen, but thats when she noticed the bloody footprints stepping across the white tile, and then a thud. Thats when Nero reappeared, holding his side, blood soaking his jacket.
"Kayla... Im sorry..." He spoke, barely hanging onto his life with the loss of blood. Clearly it was too late to get him to a hospital, and with the havok today and currently in the distract where the hospital was, there was no way to get him medical attention. Kayla began to cry, holding onto his hand. "No, you cant leave me, brother. What can I do?" Distraught, she had no idea what she could possibly do. Listening to him breath heavily, Kayla heard him speak again. "Dont trust them..." Without even saying goodbye, or even know what he meany, Kayla watched her brother lay motionless on the floor, his hand sliding away from the wound in his side.

Gray bounced through the battlefield with force. He never once touched the ground as he ripped the robots apart. Grabbing one, he threw it up in the air, when it reached its peak he was there and launched it higher. He did it a few more times until it was in the stratosphere and free falling to its doom. Between each time he threw the one robot, he was moving between the others and hitting them as hard as he could. He watched as the ice and fire worked together. Freezing and shattering, melting and destroying. They worked well together but Gray was faster and stronger. He was also a little older so he knew how to control his powers more. He didn't need the help but it didn't hurt to get it. He didn't know what plagued this city, but he could tell that they didn't know where the robots had come from. The engineer had struck at the same time as this cities clay men started attacking. He figured by the path the engineer had taken that he was coming to this city to cause as much terror as he could. Gray knew that this city was next by the time he finished with the last batch of robots.
The creator stepped from the shadows as the sweaty man covered in grease shouted at his robot creations. They were losing to the teleporter again. He couldn't figure out how to beat him but knew that if the clay men came that he'd have two enemies to fight. He hoped that would take him down but he also saw the clay men's destroyers fighting alongside him. He cursed again but then almost fell over when he spotted the creator. "Trying to take my city? Or are you looking for help?" He asked with a wicked grin on his face.

Maybe it was just rage filling her, or maybe it was something more, but Kayla wasnt having any of it. She knew who was to blame, and if she was wrong, she didnt care. She needed to get out of the apartment, and do something to blow off some steam. There was another reason she liked to stay to herself, because she had two sides to her. One was that of a young girl who stuttered out words and enjoyed fantasizing about books, the othe side being somebody who had been a bottled up time bomb just waiting to go off. This was when Kayla went off.
Running through the door, the young woman burst through the doors to the outside street, hearing the battle between the superheroes and the robots in the distance. Kayla jumped on top of a car, and took of her clothes, not caring if anybody seen her. There wasnt all too many people on the street, but as she began to change, she could notice the ones that did had began to pull out their cameras, while other ran away screaming.
With a thurst, Kayla had growing large scalled wings, crushing the car and jumping high into the air, keeping flutter. The rest of her changed, and it was painful, for once in her life. She normally turned into things smaller than her, and she was used to it, but this was something she had never done before. But she was determined, and fueled by anger. Within a few minutes, she had taken flight into the air, in the shape of a fairly large dragon, screeching out at the people below her. She might not have been able to breath fire, or anything, but she was definitely large enough to not let anything stand in her way.
Soaring down into the scene, the dragon swopped in, knocking down a handful of robots that had been clustered together, and landed on a building side, her crawls gripping on tightly as she looked for Cassie and Charlie. When they did come into sight, they appeared so much smaller, and though she started to get a little nervous, Kaylas energy boosted her morale up enough to speak with a roaring, thunderous, but distinguished voice. "Im here... To help... All of you..."

Gray jumped around and as the dragon landed on the building, he knew this city was super hero central. Though he didn't care what was going on because he was on the job but decided to use his powers for fun in the middle of the fight. He teleported above and behind the robot Cassie was fighting. Her fists were engulfed in flames as she was about to hit the robot. Gray popping out of nowhere caught her off guard. He fell out of the air to the ground and his heavy hand tore through the robot. Then he teleported away with the robot, and then was back in front of Cassie. "Hey Firecracker." He said before planting a kiss on her lips. Before she could protest, he was gone again to fight another robot. As Charlie went to confront Gray in the middle of the fight, the robot Gray had thrown into the air finally came back down and landed in front of Charlie, almost crushing him. Gray chuckled before disappearing again. Suddenly, he appeared in front of Charlie with a chimichanga in each hand. "Chill." He chuckled at his own joke as he handed one to Charlie. Charlie took a bite out of it as he shrugged, froze the robot on the ground solid, and then stomped on it to smash it.
Gray then appeared in front of Kayla and smiled. "Now that's cool! I wish I could become a dragon!" Gray was levitating in front of Kayla which wasn't new to him. He was basically repeatedly teleporting to that same spot. He was pretty natural with his powers. He had figured out a lot on his own. He simply just concentrated and whatever he thought of, he was able to do. He then appeared in front of Cassie to ask her questions. "So hot stuff, can you become on fire all over?" She looked at the floating guy with a slightly frustrated look. "Um, no I don't know how." She responded and Grayson made an unsatisfied look at her. "Well try and don't be afraid." He said simply before breaking off a robot's arm. He was then gone again, but reappeared in a new outfit moments later. It was a red and black sleeveless shirt, black cargo pants, and black combat boots. He then looked at Charlie who was looking at him confused. "What? You guys have costumes, or look awesome." He added the last bit as he pointed to Kayla before giving her a wink. "So I thought I'd do the same." He said before pulling a red mask with black circles around the eyes over his face. Charlie didn't understand how the guy could be so casual during a fight against this many enemies.

Really, Kayla didnt know what to say, and while she had already exausted out enough of her vocal energy to speaking as the dragon, she flew up into the air, going as high up as she could get, admiring the cityscape. Even though it had been more than partially destoryed, she enjoyed the view for a few seconds, before plummeting back down. She was confident enough that her wingspan would almost stop her immediately. It wasnt much different than flying as a bird, it was just a large bird, capable of destroying nearly anything that got in its way.
It was purely luck that the robots hadnt had any projectiles, no rockets or bullets or anything, thankfully. Kayla wasnt sure how well her natural armor would protect against them, even though her skin felled thick enough to stop anything, it wasnt something she tested at all. That, and nobody used bullets on dragons, that was just out of her imagination, especially right now. She was focusing on just taking out as many of the enemies as she could, trying to help out even though it seemed like Charlie and Casssie had it covered. And this newcomer, who was taking most of the job.
Though it seemed almost endless, wave after wave. Her and Nero had come to the city to get away from it all, but maybe they just got lucky their first year or so here. Thinking about him made her even more angry, and Kayla swore that she was going to breath fire, but it just wasnt possible. IT didnt stop her from getting close to the ground, and attacking with her claws, and tail, which had more spikes on it then anything else on her body. She did feel like when this was all over, and he went back to her normal self, she would need to rest and catch her balance again.
