"Only for a day or two, get our bearings, pick up some supplies and be on our way. You might want to know thee's a pretty large herd coming this way. We bypassed them, but the noise and any lights will definitely draw them here. Might want to button everything up, just in case."
Natalie made sure the guard focused more on her than Rey, and tried to keep things at a calm level. She knew the news of the herd would cause some panic, but she wanted these people to be prepared for anything coming their way. They hadn't done anything to her, so she didn't see why a little bit of early warning would do any harm.

"Yeah, our scouts picked that up. We have it planned out, dont you worry your pretty little heads. Go on then, let them through." Darby motioned for the guards to ease off the trigger, and Rey immediately stepped in front to take the lead. She gave the two men an eye, looking at their weapons, and their posture. It told her everything she needed to know about how well trained they were, and starting trouble here wouldnt do either of them any good. At the same token, they carried fully automatic weapons, and the stockpiles of ammo at the bridge alone gave her the impression they had probably most if not all of the remaining ammunition in this sector here in the camp. Theyve dealt with hoards before, but the bigger question was would Natalie and herself be sticking around long enough to see how it all went down.
As Natalie caught up, Rey adjusted her bow a little lighter around her shoulder, just in case any of the people here got a little grabby. "I cant decide whether or not I wanna stick around, partake in the action. Or at least watch from a safe distance. Id like to see this place get overrun. It would give us a lot of supplies to work with once the undead left." She insensitvely commented. But it made sense. They wouldnt catch any wildlife around here, not with the communities hunters already cleaning out whats left. They would need to eat, or at least Natalie would, this was the place to get their food. If they all couldnt defend it this time, they would have it all. If not, the two women would be needed to deal with the people, probably Natalies way and not hers.

Natalie moved close to Rey and kept the conversation low, wanting to make sure the passerby's that may be withing hearing distance didn't pick up on anything they were saying. SHe wasn't going to go along with the other woman's plan. If the horde was going to be a threat to the settlement, they were going to have to help them if they could.
"If we can, I'd like to find a bow as well. Bullets are getting hard to come by, but we can make plenty of arrows, and my sling can use a lot rocks."
She gave the woman a smile, and held her hand, trying to slow her walk so they had more time to talk before they got to the main encampment. She needed to give the woman something to believe in, something to fight for other than just survival.
"Will you teach me? To be as good as you, or at least as close as I can be?"

Thinking about it a little, it seemed like a good idea. Teaching wasnt something Rey had been very good at, but she was more than willing to give it a shot, so long as it paid off. If everything in the long run fell into place, and Griffin really was aiming to make the true survivors as strong as possible, then becoming proficient with a bow was definitely the key. Natalies sling only had so much range, and whole it was good for the softer targets, it didnt stand a chance against anything with thicker skin.
Rey knew that this was something Natalie had been thinking about for awhile now, and maybe it would be a good bargaining chip. "Fine, I can teach you, its actually a good idea. But you have to promise me not to get mixed up with these people. If things get bad here, you have to accept it, and not risk your life for them. They know well enough what settling down means, they know the risks involved when they stay put for so long. Let them work it out themselves." She brought up her quiver, counting the arrows. There had been seven basic ones, two that hard bulkier heads, and three that were modified with shotgun shells. If she was going to do this for Natalie, she would need another bow, and another quiver. Or craft one. "Lets hope somebody here would be willing to barter for a bow, or at least some tools to make your own."

"Good. I think I can manage that. Learning I mean. If something happens here, I don't know if I can stand aside. I'll help wher I can, but I won't risk my life. Is that good enough?"
Natalie walked along, looking over the encampment and looking over the defenses and th survivors that lived there. Rey was right, this place would be in a lot of trouble if the hard got past the sentries. They were going to have to do something to defend the place, and she wouldn't let the other woman drag her away.
"If the hrs gets close, we are going to need to do something. Maybe we can draw them away from the settlement, at least give them some time if nothing else?"

This was actually an area of expertise that Natalie was more suited toward. Dealing with large groups of undead, and settlements. Rey herself just kept alone, and avoid these places when she could. She seen them fall, prevail, rebuild, but she was never part of a community herself. Natalie was, and she had dealt with most if not all of the situations, including this one. Rey could tell she had. She seemed to be figuring things out in her head a lot more, knowing well enough that dragging the infected away was the best course of action. There was no leaving her, not after all this, so that left her with no limited choices.
"How much do you wanna bet theyre already trying that? Seems like the better idea. If thats what theyre plan is, then they should be good. If not, youre right, this place will fall. If helping them is what you really wanna do, then we should get to it as soon as possible." Rey spoke, letting Natalie know that she was going to be on board with whatever she was thinking. There were a few ways all of this could happen, but Rey was more interested in how the community was handling it, and motioned back to the bridge for Natalie to lead the way.

"Good. Glad to see you're willing to do that. Not just for me, but for all of them as well. There are still good people in the world, and they are worth saving."
Natalie gave the other woman a rub on the small of her back, gently digging in with the palm of her hand. It had always felt good to her, and she was hoping it would do the same for the other woman. She knew they could trade in some of their items for a few things, ad if she was capable, she would keep Rey from killing anyone else in the compound, at least those that didn't deserve her wrath. It was the best she could hope for at the moment. She would civilize the woman a little more when she had the chance.

Leading a group of undead this big would mean at least an eight hour treck close to death. They were already prepared, both physically and mentally, but they were hardly ready to deal with a mass amount of them if things went bad. Another part they needed to think about was where they would be redirecting them, towards where. It wasnt all wide open territory, there had been other settlements around, and they were all probably trying to get rid of the bundle of infected just as bad. Maybe this is what Arc had been talking about, helping people, this is why he was so adamant to create more enhanced beings like himself. So the world wouldnt have to fear the living, nor the living dead.
"It would take too long to get around them. I had a plan for getting through them before, but either way, youre not going to like it." Rey trailed off, walking at a fast but reasonable pace back down the bridge, looking over the railing to see if there had been any infected nearby. A few stuck around, crawling through the muddy embankment, enable to get out. Obviously a waste of bullets. Rey rounded the corner of the railing, jumping it and landing on the gravel of the paved road, then sliding down toward the water. She didnt watch and see if Natalie did the same, or made her own way down, but Rey was already busy slogging through the mud to get at the three infected.

Natalie sighed as she watched the woman stride towards the infected. Even if she didn't think the woman would get hurt, she had to make sure no one saw her abilities. She didn't want people scared, or shooting at them again. While she was tempted to use the rifle, she knew there wasn't much ammunition left for it. She unshouldered it and set it on the ground, taking out her sling and picking a good stone from her pocket. She whirled the piece of leather above her head, picked the closest one to her, and the one flanking Rey, and let loose, watching as the rotting figure collapsed backwards.

They only needed one, but killing the small group was for the best. Rey had used her knife on two, while Natalie got the third, quick and easy. The next step would be pulling the body out of the mud and onto the bank, which was simple enough. But after she had gotten a good grip, Rey pulled, only to hear a pop. The corpse she was pulling at came apart at the waist, sending her backwards into the mud, and the pile of guts and gore on top of her. Angry as she was, Rey played it off cool and just stood back up, taking the rest of the body with her and tossing it onto the gravel.
Looking up at Natalie, she wasnt sure if she was following or not. Rey was pulling a page directly out of the unwritten handbook, which may or may not have circulated where Natalie was from, so while she ripped around more of the rotting intestines, she explained her actions. "Were going to cover ourselves in blood. Itll mask our scent, and allow us to move through the hoard without worrying about them attacking. It works, believe me, so long as you move slow. Ive even slept in the same room as them before." Rey was covered in blood and filth at this point, a muddy reddish brown covering most of her face. "Come on, then. The quicker we do this, the quicker we can get back to our business."

Natalie turned up a nose but didn't argue, making her way down the hill to the gravel, and looking down at the body in front of her. Her hands seemed to tremble a bit as she took hold of the rotting intestine and began covering herself in the dark brown blood that was left over. She tried to get everywhere, but the smell began to make her gag, and she handed the ropy organ back to her lover, grimacing as she spoke.
"Could you...get the rest? I don't know how thorough I was."

"Marc, come take a look at this, sh*t." Duane called over the second on patrol of the bridge, still staring down toward the ground from the distance. It was too far to hear them, but close enough to see what the two females were doing. "Is that what I think it is? What the hell? Should we report this?" He questioned, aiming down his the scope of his rifle to see exactly what was happening. "No, leave them be. Infected camo, probably trying to get by the incoming walkers. Seems like somebody knows what theyre doing." Finished Marc, tapping his partner on the shoulder and pointing toward the end of the bridge. "Looks like a few straggled in early, pay attention motherf*cker, things are about to get real."
"You should be fine, but... Yeah... Okay." She trailed off, bending down to grab another scoop of bloody chunks. The smell didnt bother her so much, Rey was more than used to it by now, and the worse it smelled the more effective it would be. But once Rey had started back for Natalie, two gunshots echoed from up on the bridge, causing Rey to quickly drop what she was doing and grab for her bow. "Cant see from this angle, lets get back up."
The mud and water had been too much for the infected to cross, that was their defensive system. Only thing left to do would be hold the bridge long enough for Natalie and Rey to reroute the rest of the undead, which wouldnt be easy, but it would be doable. There were several ways of approaching this kind of situation, and Rey wasnt sure which would be their best course of action yet. Thinking back to a faded memory, she remembered another group of survivors had used an old set of gas station pumps to make a flame thrower. If they had the resourced for that, it would work, but fighting them didnt that easy this time around.

"Alright, we have to draw them away from the bridge. Maybe give them enough time to barricade it, or I dunno, get more people there to hold them off."
Natalie was already reaching for another stone as they walked through the mud and towards the other end of the bridge. They needed a plan, something that would draw the undead away in enough numbers to help the settlement. She had an idea, it was crazy, and she wasn't sure it would work, but it seemed to be a good option for the time.
"How about we kill a few of them, and start hollering, run out of sight, then when they catch up, we let the stink make them think we're just another couple of walking corpses? The noise we'd make would probably draw a lot of them away."

Barricading the bridge seemed like the only solution, but that would obviously cut down on their transportation, which is why they didnt. Obviously the threat was too great, but surely they had a fail safe put in just in case. A controlled explosive would be great, but chances are they didnt have anything like that. Having access to a large truck would block the path, but at the same time, it would completely block all transportation. Whatever these guys were running mustve been more important than their own safety, which was another reason Rey had been on the fence about helping them. But it wasnt any of their business, nor were they taking part in their transportation runs, so what did they care?
In all the years she had been using the tactic of avoiding the undead, there was still only one sure way to stop them, and that was to kill them. Hiding worked for so long, and it worked well, but at the same time, killing them would be next to impossible. If Natalies idea worked, it would be a good solution for the short term, which was better than whatever the community had in mind. That was for certain. "It might work. Yelling, shooting off a gun, same outcome. The large caliber bullets in that rifle would be good enough, I think. So lets go. You take lead, and ill follow. If something happens and we get separated, ill do what I do best, but again, ill need to be behind you."

"Alright great. Just stay close alright? I don't want to lose you again."
Natalie kept moving, seeing the few lead zombies approaching. They were within eyesight now, but what she needed to was to make sure the entire horde had seen them, or at least a large enough number of them to draw the attention of the rest when they reacted. She stayed still, waiting for more of them to appear before pointing her rifle at the lead one. It was pretty far gone, and she had a hard time telling if it was a woman, or had been a man with long hair. She sighted in her shot, and fired, blowing a hole cleanly through it's forehead. As the body collapsed, she started making a racket, screaming and waving to make sure she had their complete, undivided attention.
"Run Rey! Run!"
