Emily and Rick sprinted after the three, both breathing heavily and pumping their arms at their sides. Upon catching up with the group, Emily looked back at the wave of undead that shuffled after them, longing for their large meal. Rick had picked Julie up and huggedthe child tightly, kissing her forehead before looking back at Rey. "Thanks, kiddo. You and this guy over here, okay?" he asked, gesturing towards Louis.
Emily pushed open the entrance gates and walked through panting a little. "Dammit, where are all of those damned zombies coming from? It can'tbe physically possible for that many to have tracked us down..."

Louis grinned on the inside, it was nice to see family together. But he couldnt expose this now, thet had to get out of here. Keep close to Emily, he moved out of the entrance with her, the rest of them following closely. After everyone moved outside onto the streets, Louis closed the gates back over. It wouldnt hold the infected in for very long, but at least long enough for them to get out of the area. He aimed the gun around the street, walking behind the rest of the group. Lowering the gun, he checked the magazine, all she had was eight rounds left? It wasnt like Rey to not reload, she mustve been out of ammo.
Louis slipped the magazine back inside, and then stood beside Rey, speaking quietly and passing her the gun. "Look, I realize you dont want me around... But this just concerns me, you shouldve told me you were low on ammo... Make those last, alright?" Louis saw Rey nod toward him, as he moved ahead once again, or at least closer to the rest of the group. If they were going to be getting out of the city, they should probably take the easiest route. They were already in the city center, and he had an idea. "We dont have to go across the city... We can take the Central Station tracks... They should lead us in the right direction. That is, unless any of you have a better idea..."

At this point, Emily didn't really agree nor did she disagree with Louis' plan. As long as they made it in one piece to the highway then it didn't matter how they got there. "I guess that works, Rick? Rey? You're opinions?"
Rick held his daughter close and stood next to Emily, shrugging a bit. "I just want my daughter to be safe..."
The redhead smiled softly at him. "I'll make sure to take extra care of Julie, Rick. I'm sure you will too," she assured him before looking over at the teen girl. "Rey? Anything you wanna imput here?"

Rey looked at Louis, and liked his idea. It did make sense, she had used it before during the previous outbreak. There was a lot more open space for them to work with, too. Maybe theyll even get lucky and find a working train, but she seriously doubted that. "Yeah, hes right... It would be the safest route, and its not far from here..."
Louis looked at Rey, and then nodded. It was nice to know they could agree with eachother, especially in a time when cooperation was very important. Hearing the infected banging and rattling against the gate, he got a bit impatient, and walking down the street in the direction of the Central Station. "Then lets get moving..."

(Thorton and Andreya Enter)
Andreya nestled close to Thorton as he both carried her and protected her. Her arms wrapped around her back pack tightly. For only one fact, it had the medication she needed to survive until they got home, or at least she hopped it was enough. She was drifting to sleep in his arms when the sound of crying echoed threw the street. Andreya opened her eyes and looked around. Looking up at Thorton with a questioned looked. "What was that?" she asked, and he shook his head. He set her down on the ground and she put the book bag on her back. He walked relatively slow so that she could keep up. Each step she took she flinched in pain. Their path took them straight into the Carnival.

After hitchiking with a convoy truck, Joe was dropped off at the main road nearest the carnival. He still had some ground to cover though, taking it slowly and quiet.
Once or twice he heard movement in the nearby foliage, but when it didn't leap out and attack him he passed it off as just some frightened animals.
On a nearby post at the carnival grounds, a small camera followed his movements. ***************************************************
"Well, we got a new player coming in from one of the side entrances. Male, late 20's to early 30's...hard to tell until we get a close look."
Inside one of the performers old trailers, two of the Surgeons mercenaries had set up a makeshift monitor room using several cameras planted around the carnival. They were also hooked up to several rides and attractions, so they could turn them on and off at will. The noise covered their work.
"I'll see that and raise you middle aged soldier and teenage girl at the other side of the grounds." The other tech spoke up. "Looks like they're following one of the decoy noises. I'm going to see if I can work some of that stuff we set up in the funhouse. Try and get them that way. Otherwise you and the others might want to wake up the freaks."
The first merc grabbed his gas mask and cattle prod. Aside from themselves and their guns, the Surgeon had left them some of his scrap projects as backup, the mercs used them for watchdogs most of the time.
"and make sure Toad doesn't find out about this. He gets a hold of them first and we lose the bonus pay."
"Damn right, the freaks are hard enough to control without him riling them up." He left the trailer as his friend got back to his control panel.
"Okay, just follow the sounds of the screams kids. Racoon carnival, the greatest show unearthed."

As soon as they had heard the screams, Thorton had had no choice but to go and see what was going on. It sounded like children crying, something he couldnt just ignore. But, he had to do something with Andreya. She needed to be safe if he wasnt with her to protect her. They passed by a stand that looked like one of the food kiosks and he picked her up and set her behidn the counter.
"Stay here. If anything comes around, shoot. I'll come back in a second." He told her, looking around to see if anything was watching them and started to follow the sounds. They were getting closer and closer the further he went in, but he couldnt tell where they were coming from.

Andreya looked up at Thorton with worry in her eyes. Though he had told her to do something, and she knew when he did it was always for the best. She nodded slightly before ducking behind the counter. As he walked off she peeked up to watch him walk away. Worry filled her as he disappeared into the darkness. She turned around and sat back down on the ground. Her hand fumbling threw her back pack till she reached her inhaler. Taking a couple of puffs from it before putting it back. She then pulled out the gun and sat it down beside her. With her back to the counter, she just sat there staring off into the distance, and eagerly awaited Thorton's return.

The funhouse power supply was turned on remotely, starting up its various lights, sounds and moving parts. Over the past few weeks the mercs had given the interior a bit of modification, setting up several traps inside. Still, it had proved quite tempting to the last few groups to pass through.
***************************************************
The rest of the mercs gathered at a tent in the centre of the grounds, rousing up the 'freaks' as they called them. The Surgeons various failures, wounded repaired with spare parts and injected with viral agents, combined with the various control devices the surgeon had designed.
"Okay Patch, Slither." One of the mercs woke up the twin monsters, both large and muscular, remenicent of frankensteins monster. Patch having had his mouth sewn shut due to his biting habits, and slither having a trio of tentacles replacing one of his arms. "You two get to go out for some fun. Two bad men, find them and bring them in okay?" He jabbed a syringe into each of them, painkillers, giving them a small bit of relief from their miserable existance. They stomped out looking for their prey.
"What about the girl? What do we send out after her?"
"How about....Sniff?" Another two mercs let loose a starved mutant human, his eyes stitched shut and his sense of smell making up for it, acting more like a rabid dog than a man. He crawled around on all fours snorting before slipping out of the tent, Slither and Patch followed. The mercs radioed in.
"We got the twins after the two males, Sniff is going to give the brat a bit of a chase."
"Fine, I'll work the traps from here, hopefully we can herd at least one of them into the funhouse and catch them intact from there. Surgeon doesn't pay full price for damaged goods."

Andreya jumped at nearly every sound there was. Her heart pounding, and her chest hurting. Without Thorton she was scared to death. She took out her inhaler and took a couple of puffs. Closing her eyes she tried her best to calm down. Thorton was going to come back. He always came back for her, and he wasn't that far off. She griped the counter, and pulled herself up slightly to peek over. Her eyes growing at the site before her. What ever it was it wasn't human, nor an animal. She didn't know what it was but the creature seemed to be looking for something. As it looked over to her direction she quickly ducked back down. Her body trembling as she sat there on her knees. She quickly put her backpack on making sure that it was tight and secure. With shaky hands she reached down and gripped her gun tightly. And taking forever to summon the courage to peek back over the counter. When she finally did the creature was gone. She let out a sigh of relief and fell back on her butt. Her hands still gripping the gun tightly.

Sniff had climbed on top of the kiosks. He could make out several scents in the area. But was having a hard time picking out new ones.
Taking a deep snort he dropped to one of the counters and jumped behind, finding an old tray of hot dogs. He tucked in foaming wildly. Maybe if he went after anything edible he'd find his prey by process of elmination.
Guzzling down the last he started making his way down the kiosks. Burying his head in a stack of rotten lemons from the lemonade kiosk. ***************************************************
Joe passed by the old games, bb guns, baseballs and throwing darts left scattered among old stuffed animals. Must have been a panic during the outbreak.
As he reached the corner a large thick arm grabbed him by the head hurling him into a support pylon for an old ride. He struggled to stand, trying to find his attacker. The twins slipped back to separate hiding places. They didn't get out as often as they liked so they should make the fun last.

Andreya had been spacing off for a bit. That was until she heard something crash a little ways down the stand line. She back up against the wall holding the gun out with shaky hands. She wanted Thorton to be back. She didn't want to be alone anymore. Not even twenty minutes had past and she was already panting heavily. She was told to stay, but she wanted to run so badly. Her stomach was getting sick, and her chest was tightening. He told her to fire the gun if she needed him to come back, but if she did then what ever was in here with her would know where she was. She felt tears streaming down her cheek, and her hands shaking to the point no matter what she shot at it wouldn't even hit it. She had thought about running to Thorton, but she would have to run right past what ever was in here with her. Finally the pain in her chest getting to her she threw on the backpack, and stood up. She tried to look down the line to find what ever it was, but couldn't see from the darkness. Andreya climbed over the counter nearly falling on the other side. Gaining her composure she took off in a fearful dash in the direction that Thorton had walked off in.

Sniff picked up the movement quickly and took a deep taste of the scent. Bounding back over the counter he headed towards Andreya, the control device in the back of his head started bleeping.
"Okay guys, Sniff just found the girl." The merc on the control trailer radioed out. "Place your bets."
He fiddled with the remote for the mutants implants. Though they didn't allow for direct control they did give little shocks to help the thought process. A few shocks in the right parts of the brain told Sniff to cut the girl off and 'herd' her towards one of the attraction buildings. He pounced on top of the kiosks again and leapt ahead, turning to bark at the girl.

Andreya nearly tripped on her feet as she stumbled to a stop when she seen the creature in front of her. Her hands shook on the gun, but her brain wasn't really registering what to do with it. Her body trembled in fear as she watched the creature, her hands shaking enough that her finger had actually pulled the trigger. The gun just going off into the ground, but the sound loud enough to cause her to scream out. She hated guns, and ever since she had killed her father with it she refused to use one. Yet Thorton had insisted on teaching her how to use one. Tears flooded her eyes as the gun dropped from her hand. She turned on her heals and stumbled before she got her footing, and then took off down the other direction. She wanted Thorton, she wanted to be back with him, but that creature was standing in her way.
She cried as she ran threw the place not knowing where she was going. Every now and again she stopped to look back for the creature. Her running slowing to a trot as her hand gripped her chest tightly. When she was sure the creature was either gone or a ways away she completely stopped. With a shaky hand she pulled her backpack off, and pulled out her inhaler. Taking a couple of puffs from it, she leaned forward wheezing heavily as she sat there on the ground.

Post by Lt. Wolfmist Pendragon on Jul 20, 2009 21:32:12 GMT -5
Four helicopters flew in from the east and hovered high over the fairground. Searchlights dazzled the ground below before ropes dropped from the deckplates and down to the dust. Quickly, within the space of 10 minutes, a platoon of equipped army personnel from Britain surrounded crates and a small stockpile of basic ammunition. Wolfmist tapped a sergeant on the shoulder, "Well, here we are. The HMS Fleetwood will be manning communications from now on, but aid wont be available for a few days. Time to get moving."
"Yes sir. Squads 1 through 4 on me, relay ammunition, fill your packs... come on, move it-"
Wolfmist left the platoon to their devices for a bit as he hunkered down in the middle of the landing zone, jotting codes and orders from his headset. The orders were simple.
Locate and Extract the Scientist Mayweather.
Wolfmist stood up and took out a pair of field binos and surveyed the drop zone. They were on the outskirts of a fairground near the beach, and they had quite a hike to go. Later they were to coordinate with the armour corp. several miles in once they had barged their way through the northern area.
"Conserve your ammo, head shots only." he passed the order on to a nearby NCO and quietly the order was passed around before the field signal for movements were given. 4th from the middle of single file as they pepper-potted from kiosk to kiosk from the dusty area that served as a landing zone. Overhead the choppers retreated East back towards the carrier and keeping rifle scope close to eye, Wolfmist surveyed the scouts pushing forward. Suddenly he froze and an automatic hand signal told the troops to freeze. Clanks and thuds could be heard as crates and equipment were set down. He thought he saw something standing on top of a kiosk far ahead, only momentarily illuminated by the helicopters' searchlights. A scout ran towards him from the front and muttered, "signs of life ahead, sir."
