Sam and Aya launched themselves back toward the cockpit of the train. They moved like lightning, the sudden lurching of the train causing a bit of panic. Upon arrival the witch practically dove into the seat she'd used to control the bullet earlier. She gazed over the navigation system then looked out the front window. A city could be seen on the horizon to the right with the iconic Eiffel tower tickling the rising sun. In front of them lay open train tracks clearly leading away from the city.
"Damn!" Cursed Sam. "We've been detoured. I had set us up for the fastest way to the other side of the country which put us going straight to France. Looks like they found a way to change our course and we are heading north. They may be making their delivery any way. And sending us right to themselves..." Sam paused. She didn't know much about the Saudi group except for that they wanted to kill herself and Aya now. That was enough for her to become concerned. "You've been tracking these guys. What do you think?"

Threads of thought raced through the binded girl's mind. Aya had already been subtly shaking her head at Sam's concept of the altered direction, however something nagged her from completely answering straight away.
Theorizing, the girl tapped away at a keyboard bringing up a dialogue box on one of the control bank monitors, "I predicted they would be making their stop in Paris. It's possible they've put us on an alternate course in order to buy time, kill us off before unloading the goods," A browser popped up on screen for the International Bullet Train Railways, Aya typed in 'Checkpoint Analysis' hoping to find a hit, "So far a schedule has been followed to the point, so it would be counter efficient for them to veer off course like this..."
Cutting off mid sentence was usually reserved for when her glowing, yellow hues had landed on something strikingly important; or indulgent. A grid of the railway popped up on screen showing the network across France, it automatically zoomed in on the track their bullet raced along; one portion several kilometres back was flashing red. Once clicked an image scanned in on screen.
Updated only moments ago, the picture showed a destroyed area of the track in absolute shambles. Aya's upper lip twitched after seeing it. First impression was of explosives being used to detour the train, if not derail it. However Aya, in her exprience, had witnessed plenty railway damage to know otherwise. There was no certainty to her hunch so there were no point speaking out; most evidence pointed at the Saudis having taken the sabotage approach anyway, "There's your answer," Aya pointed at the screen.
She had followed the Saudi mercs, but not once had the opportunity to witness their reactions to different situations arise, "I guess our Middle-Eastern pursuers are more interesting in delivering their cargo without any of the extra luggage, rather than trying to deliver it on time," Aya crossed her arms, "Best to assume another wave of bad guys will drop in some time. We'll need to prepare."
Aya kicked off from leaning on the panel, casually glancing at the grid one last time. Something caught her eye in the rop right corner: 2d 21h.
"2 days and 21 hours to decide what to do with the equipment, before it pulls up to its destination," Aya felt a little nervous. She was unsure if it were possible to keep the last lead she followed alive in hopes of discovering who had contracted the Saudis help. Even if the weapons did not make it to their stop, it would still feel like a loss.
"C'mon," Aya suddenly spoke once the cabin door hissed open, "It's time for you to test out one of those weapons. You can tell me a little about yourself along the way," Aya dug her hands into her pockets.

Aya obviously had the better grasp of the situation. And knowing that the enemy could be attacking them for nearly three days was an unnerving thought. "C'mon, it's time for you to test out one of those weapons. You can tell me a little about yourself along the way." Sam rose and followed. Aya was right they would need a bit more punch if they would be on the defensive for such a length of time. As for talking about herself the witch struggled to find the right words. Her mind however instantly jumped to a younger blonde haired version of herself frolicking through a South American jungle. And once again the rancid smell of a beautiful flower filled her cranium as if she were standing in that dreadful garden once again.
Thats when it dawned on Sam, however she doubted her discovery. The reason she couldn't keep the nightmarish memories from her mind's eye. Her own precarious anxiety would not allow her to speak on the subject with her new counterpart. You'd thing dealing with such an issue would allow a person to have some level of coping with the problem. However being exempt from the rest of humanity could do that to a person, and a hunch wasn't nearly what was needed to open such doors of one's history. The thoughts and feelings where stuffed once more, returned to their usual location with Sam's consciousness. She then began pulling details she could share with Aya.
"Lets see... after college I decided to enlist in the Marines. That's probably been one of the more full-filling aspects of my life. Worked in operation desert storm and was one of the first responders in the Raccoon City outbreak." She paused. "We lost a lot of good men and women that day." She decided not to get too gloomy to keep spirits up. "Anyway. After the initial outbreak I found myself in Northern Egypt. I lived on the coast of the Mediterranean. Once the dead showed up again I thought about heading back toward America but found myself contacting an old friend who apparently has a setup running in Russia." She felt as if she'd summed up enough. Afterall there is only so much you can say about surviving in between the larger details. "What about you? You seem pretty set on what your after. You hired for this sorta thing, or you find it a hobby?" Sam let out a smile and a grin.

Mention of Raccoon City was brought up in Samantha's brief history. Aya felt her back grow tense. She had killed a lot of service men and women back then during her time with the Corporation; it was not at all unlikely she had killed some acquaintances of Sam's as well. Perhaps the young raven haired woman had even been in her iron sights at one point. The thought alone were enough to make Aya fill ill. She kept her mouth shut on the topic.
Samantha got around to asking why the combat artisan were committing to what she was doing. Hired; a hobby? Aya shook her head, "It started as a hobby, I suppose," she admitted, "I was studying infected wild life before getting caught up in all this, documenting effects of the T-virus in other living organisms," planning on capping off the intro there, a piece of her scientific personality leaked out, "With surprising results. Not everything becomes suggestively aggressive, or primal."
"Anyway. Some mishaps occurred. I ran into some people, some friends, others I shouldn't have run into," the fair skinned girl sighed, rubbing her eyes as the two stepped into the cargo transport, "Now I'm just looking to right some wrongs," Aya let it drop off into vagueness after that. If Sam stuck with her any longer she would soon discover more; no point in spoiling the ending. All the brunette knew were that she was responsible for much of what went on that instance. Not entirely something she wanted to flaunt about.
Leading up to the second floor through the hatch which had been utilized earlier, Aya snatched two of the EBR's handing one off to Sam, "Okay, the large units such as these seem to have large heat vents. Seeing as the cooling cylinder is grafted on I'm assuming it can take a considerable amount of repetitive fire before locking itself out," Aya hit the switch for the side cargo door, shouting to speak once the windage drowned out all the volume, "Just point and pull, is what I'm trying to say. Don't worry about iron sights with these. You won't need them."
Ushuring the dark haired girl closer to the edge, avoiding any damage to the train, "The weapon has a lot of kick. You'll need to lean right into the shot in order to absorb all the recoil. These were originally designed for use by shock troops rather than simple infantry so if you feel any pain in your shoulder it'd be best to stop testing."

Sam followed Aya up to the second floor and took one of the weapons from her. She listened to her directions as carefully as she could over all the wind noise. She flipped off the weapon's safety and tucked the stock tight in against her shoulder. She knew how to handle heavy recoil due to her use of the beowulf. However not knowing exactly how much this had made her want to take all the correct precautions.
She took a deep breath and stiffened her stance, an exhale later and she pulled the trigger on the weapon. She fired into the speeding terrain causing a massive shock wave type of blast to emanate from the firearm. It tore into the vegetation on the side of the train tracks and seemed to rip away at the ground beneath. The recoil hit Sam harder than she expected but nothing she couldn't handle a few more times.
"Holy crap!" Sam was nearly at a loss of words she didn't know what to think. "I see why you seemed kinda squeamish about these things now. These are... just... ridiculous!" A grin spread across her face. The weapon scared her but at the same time she enjoyed it as long as it was her pointed the weapon, and not the weapon being pointed at her. "Who makes these? And how many shots can be made before it needs to cool off?" She had several questions but it was hard to talk with all the wind chaos cutting away at her words.
She understood now why the militiamen would be back after them. These weapons would be highly valuable, and highly dangerous in the wrong hands. Aya would probably be looking to dispose of them before long to prevent anyone else from getting their grubby hands on them.

A heavy clunk reverberated from the floor as Aya heaved one of the larger EBR's out of their container, "Whoever has the engineering schematics can make them," she said in between breaths, heaving it again and slowly walking toward the opening, "It's dangerous. Splitting atoms kinda dangerous, only on a much larger scale utilizing a recently found synthetic element," there were a few more loose parts on the larger EBR which did not make sense at first; it held a little like a gatling-gun with a shoulder rest. When Aya pushed her left shoulder into the basic it activated the rest of the firearm, the extra parts powered up like robotic arms reaching out and locking onto Aya's own limbs. It acted like a small exoskeleton.
"An example," Aya wanted to elaborate on how serious she were of the EBR's potential, "A month and a half back a group of extremists created a WMD with the same technology, slapped it right in the middle of Las Vegas," she fiddled with a few more dials, checking what each of them would be used for, "If the explosion went off it would have left a crator in the earth, large enough to allow water from the Pacific Ocean to fill the Grand Canyon."
The intruiged girl booted a shot from the EBR after finishing her explanation. The ExoEBR whined as energry could be felt multiplying from within. Aya went unheard over the roaring wind as she spoke to herself, "Must've found a way to store mass before unloading a shot-" just as she had finished her musing the EBR fired, a massive shockwave of energy launching out into the European country side tearing at the earth and rendering full grown pine trees to splinters. Aya was pushed backwards skidding on her feet as she leaned into the shot. Once the aftermath were far behind them she pulled at a section on the receiver revealing a hollow area besides one thick metal rod moving between the stock and barrel of the weapon. A bright, fluoro orange glow emenated from it.
"Probably only good for two shots," Aya commented before letting it retract and power down, dropping it on the floor, "Although I doubt it would even be needed after use with a kill zone like that. As for yours-" she snatched the infantry grade EBR from Samantha, pulling back on what one would consider the bolt to reveal its own hollow compartment with a much more thin rod running through the weapon, "I'm not familiar with these designs, so I'd say ten shots just to be safe. At least until I find out more," Aya tossed it back and picked up the ExoEBR again, "Help me move these throughout the train. A couple in between each car. I'll take this to the tail end," she said, opening the floor gate and lowering it through.

Sam's jaw went slack as she watched in horror the devastation the rocket launcher sized weapon emitted. She was how such tech could create the insane power needed to actually pull off the Vegas example she gave, and it was terrifying. The witch followed her orders as the began equipping the various segments of their ride with the tools of destruction. As she paced around numbly completing her job she studied the weapons as best she could. Attempting to understand their function, operation, and inner-workings. Her history in physics and science helped her during these silent moments.
After filling the train with two EBR's per cab she finally ran into Aya, again carrying the gun.
"So these work off propelled mass, i've gathered that much. Why are all of these set up to fire a sort of shotgun blast?"
She raised the firing end as a visual aid.
"This drum looking part obviously amplifies the energy and expels it the way a megaphone would do to your voice. And if what your saying about each only being worth ten shots a piece is true."
She flipped the weapon horizontally holding it with her right hand and using her left to point out various aspects as she spoke.
"Would it not have been more effective to design it with a higher molecular rifle-like barrel, where less energy is used per shot, allowing for better precision and a vastly extended number of shots, with a faster cool down."
As she finished she realized that she was sounding really dorky and possibly as if she was thinking too much about nonsense to her brunette friend.
"Im sorry. I needed to get that crap outta my head. I got my physics major a long time ago and I disect everything with my eyes..."
Feeling a bit embarrassed for showing herself Sam quickly laid the weapon in one of the nearby seats. She too fell into the soft pillowed chairs allowing her body to relax for just a moment.

When Sam gave her opinion on the design of the rifle Aya noticed a concrete common between them. They both harbored a penchant for the innovation of efficiency. The sleek girl nodded while leaning against the wall opposite the brainstorming physicist, agreeing foremost about enhanced design, but shaking her head in the end.
"It's impossible to ask for a specific amount of energy. Just because the discharging end is smaller doesn't mean a different scale of output is applied. The catalyst occurs at the rear end of the rod while the rest of the barrel is simply there to help carry it and amplify its speed," she made an awkward shrug as if she were about to contradict herself, "Although, yes, it is possible to focus the shot into a more narrow window. About the circumference of, say, a bullet," her voice landed in uncomfortable territory, "Doing so would cost more to manufacture, though. Plus with the plate you don't have to worry about accuracy. Any organizations who would agree to use it would not care about collateral damage," after speaking the truth, she went into bleaker territory to note the reality, "Then there's the effect of having no bullet to account for. No evidence of a shooting, not to mention its pinpoint accuracy. It would put a new spin on espionage and invisible warfare. That's the moral of this technology. We just have to hope whoever notices it doesn't decide to use it."
It would be a tool to change the world, just like the revolver had, and the automatic pistol after it. This was perhaps the one fear Aya owned for all the wrong reasons. She pushed off from the wall and dug her hands into her pocket, "Okay. Well seeing as-" the train lurched, shuddering, cutting Aya off from her sentence as she lost balance, holding herself up against the wall. When the tremor subsided a low pitched warble reverberated from the surroundings. With a heavy breath Aya growled, "La mutante bestia," moving between every second window and peering outside to get a good look of the landscape.
Slapping her hand against the windowsil when no other noise was made, "C'mon," she called for Sam to follow, resting her hand on her FNP9 sitting firmly in its holster as she moved down the car. Aya stepped out into the cold air leaning out from between the cars. It did not take long to spot her antagonist for the first time, "There," the young woman directed herself spotting a disturbance in the field no less than a kilometre away.
Trees and earth was pushed up as something beneath the ground travelled about, "I didn't think it could move that fast on land," she made the disturbed comment, "So there's why we had to take the longer route," Aya clarified the damaged track they ran into further back.
The stretch of track they were on curved and increased in altitude. Aya could clearly see the direction they were headed, traveling up and around the mountains, hanging over a precarious cliff.

Sam looked up with surprise as Aya began spouting back to her in science talk. She realized at that point two things. One Aya too was a scientific individual, and two, she knew much more about the weapons than she had previously provided. Whether the second fact boded good or bad was yet to be seen. But so far based on her reactions it was a good thing.
The brunette began to speak, and unmeaningly so did the witch. She was about to defend her perspective on power consumption and efficiency within the EBR but both women were cut off by the sudden rocking of the train. It was rough enough to cause Sam to brace herself between her seat and the one infront of her. When it finally quit Aya went into motion checking the windows.
Taking a bit more time than her partner Sam silently crossed the alley and peered out only one window taking in the land around them. "What the hell?" Asked the witch silently. Not but a moment later Aya gave the order for Sam to follow which she did. Taking note of her partner's hand which hovered on the pistol in its holster. Moving a bit quicker to catch up they poked their heads out into the rushing air. Suddenly it was noticable that something large was moving under the ground about a mile away. The witch's eyes shimmered for a moment as lenses switched for further sight. Whatever was moving under the ground made short work of everything in its path uprooting everything and heaving it in all directions leaving a trail much like that of a giant mole hill.
"I didn't think it could move that fast on land," spoke Aya.
"Wua-Wait. What? You know what that thing is?"
"So there's why we had to take the longer route."
Sam knew that if that thing came any closer their sidearms would prove naught against its size. She turned and sprinted to the nearest EBR. It was the only tool she had complete confidence would at least harm whatever it was.

Like a manic warhorse, the bullet locomotive charged up the jagged ascent hanging precariously over a sharp cliff. White engulfed the landscape as the snowcapped mountains moved to surround the piece of high-speed French engineering, and mist billowed down the rocky slopes. Without an ounce of fear the steel beast took on the threatening terrain with majestic vigor, conquering the landscape. It was about to get very cold, very fast, for the two female commandos. "Wua-Wait. What? You know what that thing is?" Truthfully They were old friends. The last time they met were at the Arctic Ocean frozen over between Alaska and Russia on the Bering Strait. Only did they ever met each other at sea or coastal regions. Where the land met the water like their two domains, only now the Eater of Worlds had tread on Aya's own turf. From experience, Aya only ever ran into it by herself. Having Samantha here changed facts, twisting theory in her studies dramatically. Originally Aya assumed the Eater was drawn to her advanced state. Something chemical related in the build of her body was like catnip, considering how altered the Progenitor girl's architecture was, it was no doubt a strong scent. She figured having other, normal, human beings around her, no matter the size of the crowd, managed to cover her tracks because of these facts. Something was different now. Here she stood, in the presence of another human, and the Eater persued her across land. Aya had to check something. Heading to reunite with her backpack, she drew out piece of handheld equipment leaving behind her rifle, "Grab something warm. We're heading outside," she would have asked Sam to snatch one of the EBR's too, only it seemed her common sense had already taken care of that. Finally slipping a white beanie from her back and slipping it over her head, the arctic girl proceeded towards the exit. Aya stepped back outside of the train car, climbing the ladder to the roof. The 20 mile long curve in the track and having the face of a mountain to one side reduced windage, it was possible to simply lean agaisnt the wind to one side and walk along it. She stopped at the centre of the car, crouching down and looking out into the valley below. As she spoke her voice somehow managed to override the roar of wind, making it audible for the Samantha to hear, "It'll come out from that side," the seemingly contradicting girl pointing her thumb over her shoulder at the slope of the mountain, a constant tremor had already begun to build up, "Bear that in mind. The first attack is going to be a miss, but the next time I'll need you to shoot just ahead of it to knock it off course..."Shuffling towards the edge of the roof between sitting snug and nearly tipping off, the daring girl hit something to cause the gadget in her hand to activate with three sharp hooks ejecting from the main body, looking similar to a grapple. Aya looked over her shoulder towards Sam, the tremor intesifying, "Wait up for me," she managed to say before everything moved into chaos. Behind them the wall of the mountain erupted as a shadow moved over the train, looking up to see the belly of a mamoth worm ejecting itself from the earth, "You've grown," Aya mused while watching it soar overhead. The hook launched, a high tensile wire pulled through the air as distance caused it to disappear in its vanishing point. As the Eater moved on its arch, falling towards the foot of the opposite mountain, the grapple took hold. This was noticeable from the wire became taut and Aya was suddenly yanked off the side of the train. Pulled along by its mass, the Eater devoured at the earth as soon as it landed its massive, circular maw digging back underground. Dust and debris flung in every direction, the ivory girl vanishing into it all as she followed her nemesis into the rock and clay. Like surfing the wake of water caused by a boat, Aya's boots skid against the dirt as the Eater dragged her along. She pulled herself closer to where the hook landed on its tail end, unsheathing her knife and carving a piece of its dead skin away. Once the pale green artifact was tucked in a pouch and her knife was sheathed Aya focused on keeping hold of her attacker, waiting until it chose to charge at the train again.

Sam too pulled forth something a bit warmer from her bag. A leather jacket with a fur lined interior. She slipped into it as she chased Aya along the length of the train. They made their way up and into the quickly cooling wind. Her ears tuned in on Aya's voice as she took in her orders. Positioning herself away from her comrade she prepared for the 'miss' that was predicted to arrive first.
The tremors grew more and more violent until finally; as if dynamite had been ignited from within the mountain side, stone and dirt erupted from behind them. With it came the ginormous maw of their attacker. Only a short glimpse was spared of its teeth-laden circular jaw. The next second its worm-like body was stretching and arching over the train. Sam felt stunned at the mere sight of the beast, it was simply massive. Its giant black silhouette paled the size of even the train.
Sam caught one last glimpse of Aya she launched her grapple hook device and went sailing into the air and soon pulled the slender girl along with it. Not knowing if this was the purpose Sam’s voice cracked forth from under the chaos, ”AYA!” Reflexively her hand went out after her but she was far too late. Panic sat in on the witch’s mind. However she wouldn’t let that keep her from functioning. She remembered the plan the second attack was when the widow would strike.
Sam let the wind carry her as she traveled to the last car of the train. She crouched and readied her EBR, tremors already shaking the mountain threatening to derail the train. A familiar sensation grew in the coiled up muscles of the witch her body was instinctively preparing for the oncoming attack. Taking not of stone as if fell way from a specific spot on the stone wall San gathered a good idea on where the eater would emerge next.
As the second eruption occurred Sam realized she was right in the line of attack. The beast would devour her in a fraction of a second. Reacting by diving against the wind and forward a car Sam’s legs pistoned with tremendous force propelling her away. She slid along the roof and caught herself with a morphed claw. The skin on her hand turned dark and claws dug into the raw metal of the train’s roof anchoring the girl. The worm took the top half of the last train with it seeming to swallow it whole.
In the second she had to react Sam lifted the EBR with her right hand and fired into the eaters side. The force of the propelled mass slammed into its side. Knocking it off its intended dive line, just as Aya planned.

Darkness of underground was assaulted by the shattered effect of what light could bend around the falling boulders. The wire of the hook already flailed back into its casing as the grapple detatched. The Eater's change in direction caused her momentum to alter with it, thanks to Samantha's well placed shot. Arms and legs swinging in the air, Aya were more aimed at the train now than she would have been before; however the locomotive still moved faster than her, and the prospect of actually hitting her mark quickly looked more and more deminished.
The toes of her feet landed on the third car from the end, having originally been the fourth. Aya curled up to brace the impact, although that did not stop of from falling to her side and rolling down the length of the train. She desperately held her hands out for the hope of latching onto something, bouncing over the gap between cars. Her uncontrolled roll approached Samantha, albeit reaching out, their fingers only mingled before the thought of catching one another was lost.
Something else crossed Aya's mind as she tumbled through over the alpine metal. How Samantha's hand had felt after touching. It had not been pleasant, soft skin she expected; instead feeling like a far more coarse material. The savant had spent enough time with materials in a lab to know what to compare such a feeling with.
The distraction had almost caused her to miss the last chance of surviving the fall, a deep gouge in the side of her stomach from bent steel reminding Aya of where she was, and instantaneously reaching out, clinging onto the remainder of the final car. She reached out with her other hand to get a good grip, her legs flailing behind from the 300kph speed.

Sam used the next few seconds to recover from the recoil of the EBR. She also fought to hold down a full mutation. Her thighs had nearly turned from the burst of speed needed to escape being digested, and her arms had mutated catching herself to return her attack. Spasms coursed down her legs and muscle mass returned to a normal state. The worm crashed against the side of the mountain and its tail flung something toward the train. Adjusting her eyes on the object revealed that it was Aya.
Was she riding along with that thing? In a blur Aya landed and began a roll along the side of the train. Sam reached out to help her but just grazed her fingertips. The crazy woman finally caught hold on the remaining half of the last car. Sam forced the released state of her arms to return to her human form then slid down the train and helped Aya regain her composure. She took note of the wound on her side.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Was her first response before checking her wound. "Are you alright?"
It didn't take long for the eater to regain its senses. It rolled over and poised itself upright before diving its huge mass back into the substrate. It didn't take long for the tremors to begin shaking the train again.
"Jeez this thing is persistent!"

"Don't worry," Aya took Sam's hand, grateful for help standing up, "That blast would've given it a nasty stomach ache. It's just angry," she pushed her hand into her side, stemming the wound while heading for the ladder down. She paid no attention to Sam's remark of her modus operandi; the little researcher in her did what she had to do to get a sample, "We'll have a bit of down time before it attacks again," as if on cue, the tremor subsided to a more bareable state until finally leaving completely.
The view through the window of the last car looked derelict in both appearance and sense of survival. Aya considered disconnecting the car for a brief moment to sustain the integrity of the whole train, only she figured it was best to have as much length as possible. It was virtually their life line after all. The more they could hold onto, the more the Eater had to chew away at, the longer they lived.
Further down the beaten track did not look promising. The rate at which the worm could dig was astonishing, and how the train moved through a narrow valley with steep cliffs either side did not bode well. Aya discarded the thought for now, returning to the train car her and Samantha had seemed to have made their hub.
Disinfectant, styptic and a thick roll of gauze came out of the grey backpack, resting it all on the bench in front of her. Aya removed the glove from her hand she had used to cover her cut, now covered in slick fluid, chucking it to one side. She rolled her shirt off revealing her pale upper body, a simple white brassier covering her bosom.
"I don't know if you've ever spent much time with engineering," Aya suddenly spoke without looking, "We'll need to make this train go faster, without dropping the cargo," a couple of ideas swam around in her mind, shattered when pouring on disinfectant, "Then somehow get the mutant to hightail it out of here," the EBRs would only do so much against it, even if they shot it every time it would still continue to persue them. The two had to find a way of getting it to leave them alone indefinitely.
Styptic lined the cut making her gut feel numb, quickly covering the gauze around her torso and pinning it tight before the effect wore off and pulling her shirt back on. Aya rolled her sleeves up and slipped the piece of skin out from the pouch on her belt. She fished around the workplace for any clear container, running into a jar of screws. The contents were tipped out into one of the EBR containers before being washed at a sink and dried with the skirting of her shirt.
For so much that had been collected of the Eater, only a fragment of the artifact had to be crushed and placed in the jar. Aya slipped a small case from her bag, taking out a tiny tube from it and squirting its contents into the jar testing alkali levels. Tipping the jar to the side brought the blue liquid to one side, clear to see. It was the same gravedigger Aya had encountered times before.

Seeing that Aya had it covered taking care of her own wounds Sam decided to focus on speeding up the train. She looked around taking in everything she could and coming up with a plan. Recalling a bit of physics she knew that in order for an object to move quicker it needed to have little resistance, little drag, a solid base, and a decent power to weight ratio.
She recalled going to a few autocross events with her friends in the marines. The car drivers would remove as much of the interior as they could to improve their power to weight ratio. Then they would put as much equipment that could handle being moved lower into the car's frame to drop its center of gravity.
Translating this to the train would mean bringing any cargo from the upper levels down to the floor. Cutting their losses with the last car. And removing anything not really needed such as seats or equipment stuck in cabinets, or storage lockers. Then she would see if she could play with the controls in the cabin to get any extra strength out of the locomotive.
The only problem she foresaw was increasing their speed on the narrow, twisting paths the machine traversed. If they increased speed too much and took a turn the train could topple off the tracks and into the ravines below if it didn't hold on. Sam pushed the thought from her mind. This had to work, they needed to hightail it out of their current location.
Sam took off to the upper levels and began dropping things through hatches to the lower levels. Once finished she too slipped through the hatch and began knocking over anything stacked. Dropping the center of gravity would also help them to keep from tipping and remembering that bit of information eased her worry about taking corners.
Once everything was spread as flat as possible along the floor of the last two cars Sam ran into Aya who was investigating something in a container. "Hey we need to ditch anything we dont need. And as helpful as that last car could be, it would be really nice if we could cut the weight and drag to speed up. Maybe we could time releasing it for if that thing comes up behind us to slow it down a bit and give us a boost at the same time. Im going to ditch anything from here forward meet me in the cab when your done with whatever your doing." She turned and took off into the next car.
Anything that was loose went out the doors as the witch made her way to the front of the train. Practically falling into one of the seats before catching her breath. Sam flipped her hair back out of her face and began fiddling with controls. The bullet trains ran on electricity so she found a way to increase the charge being fed directly into the magnetic coils that ran the locomotive. She'd be pulling 125% out of them and it would probably cause it to over heat before long at sea level. However up here in the cold mountains nature would do its part to keep them running smoothly.
With the touch of a button the flood lights along the train lit up instead of the ones running off the power supply. Any air conditioning units also shut off. All power aboard the train was being diverted to the engines and as if it suddenly woke up the train lurched forward and took off. The bullet glided precariously around the curves and arches of the mountainside.
