"What, you didn't want the nudie magazines?" Zoe asked with a mischievious smile. She hadn't been in the room, but she had cousins. Anytime a group of men got together, there were nudie magazines. "You're not..." she said, letting her hand hang limp. She smiled even bigger. She was just razing him. "Cuz we could go shopping together and look at shoes. As my daddy used to say, even the burly ones..."
Then she turned back to the stairs. "Let's look around here and see what we find. If we find enough gas containers then we can skip it. If not, then we should at least hit the outskirts. We might even just stop off at the airport and see if we can gas up there. But I think that we are done with this place. Best to get some distance between us and this town."

Samuel glanced at Zoe from the side as she ribbed him, rolling his eyes slightly while a small grin slowly spread accross his scarred features.
"You thilly goose." He said in the most effeminate lisp he could muster as he reached over and gave her a playful shove. They became serious once more as she talked about her idea. Best of both worlds.
"All righty, we'll try it. Even if we can't get any gas cans, they probably have s*** we can fill up. Water jugs, junk like that." He said as he followed her down the stairs. His bag was over his shoulder, his shotgun in one hand while the axe was in the other. He was glad he didn't have to lug all of this s*** around for much longer.
"Hey... Did you ever happen to check the trunk of the Challenger?" He asked. That seemed like a good thing to do, while they were in the wanderlust mood.

Zoe laughed and picked up backpack and slung it over her shoulder. She shoved her machete in its sheath and holstered her revolver. Then she strapped her rifle to her back and picked up her bag o’ money. Lastly, she grabbed the water and then went downstairs. She set it down on beside the Challenger and looked over at Samuel.
"Hey... Did you ever happen to check the trunk of the Challenger?"
Zoe looked down at the car and her hand resting on the truck. She involuntarily pulled her hand back and stepped away from the car. “No, at first there wasn’t time and then… I just never thought about it.” She dropped the black bag and pulled out her revolver. Checking to make sure it was loaded, she cocked the hammer and aimed at the trunk.
“I’ll cover you as you open the trunk”, she said, moving around to the side of the vehicle. If anything lunged out, she would be able to get off a shot and not hit Samuel.

Samuel gave her a slight nod as he set everything down about ten feet from the car, pulling out his own revolver and cocking the hammer. He pulled the keys from his pocket and put the correct key into the trunk's keyhole. He counted down from three before he turned the key and threw open the trunk, taking a step back and holding his gun with both hands. When nothing lunged out, he slowly leaned forward to take a look inside.
"Clear." He said. He put his gun back and began looking at the contents. There was a red toolbox, a black plastice tote, and as luck woul have it, a large red gas can.
"Score." He said. Looks like they finally got a lucky break with no strings attatched. He opened the plastic box and saw that it contained average road kit gear. Road flares, a small jack, a blanket in case the driver was stranded in cold weather, crap like that. Stuff that could come in handy but may never be needed.
"Well, we got one. Let's check the pump, see if they have unleaded on tap." He said, grabbing the empty can and walking over to the pumps in the back.

Zoe went over to check the pump. For safety reasons, it had been kept on the outside of the building... gas fumes and electricity tended to mix at a very explosive pace. She checked outside the door and saw nothing. Then she pushed it open and looked at the small pump. Seeing that it was unleaded, she turned around and gave a thumbs up to Samuel.
While he filled it up, she looked around even more. If they could just find a few more containers, they might not even have to journey into Stoneville and head right on to Vegas.
Then she remembered something.
"Hey Sam, do you remember those raiders that we killed back at the convenient store? Those truck had to be gas guzzlers. I know we destroyed one of the trucks, but do you think that the other one has spare containers? It must, I mean. How else would they get around?"
She knew that she was adding an unknown to an already unknown situation. They knew that the convenient store had been crawling with undead. Though any meal was long gone, they could be wandering around. Still, Stoneville could be a hell dimension of undead... or it could be a walk in the park. Deal with what you know, or take your chances on the unknown. That was the choice.
If only they had time, she thought. If they could find a tanker truck, they could load up on all the gas and then take off, selling gas for profit and goods. Hell, they could take it to the airport and probably buy a plane with it.
If only they had time.

"That's a damn good idea. Even if they didn't have any, I bet the store does. And failing that, it'll have some containers we can use. Milk jugs, soda bottles, stuff like that." He said. A plan with built in backup plan. That was the best kind of plan to have.
"Let's top off right now and we'll go." He said, going back inside to the car. He deposited the can, as well as his bag, into the trunk and snapped it closed. He would keep his shotgun in the car and take the axe with him. He started it up and pulled out to the gas pump, stopping and getting out to top the car off while they could. Six blocks worth of travel wouldn't do much to their reserves, and it was a sound idea to cut out any steps they may have to make under duress.
"We'll check and then get back here. We could make it out of this place within the hour." He said, looking at his watch. The quicker they were gone the better. He waited for her to get inside the Challenger and took off toward the store, keeping his speed low to try and keep the noise level to a minimum.
(Now at said store, I forget the name.)

The Challenger pulled up to the outside gas pump and Samuel turned off the car quickly to cut out as much noise as he could. He was instantly outside and at the trunk, looking at the gas cans. He dumped a bit of it out on the ground and inspected it.
“Unleaded. We’re good.” He said, taking the pump and starting to fill the first can. They were lucky, they didn’t need to flush the bladder or the cans. He assumed, anyway. There would be no reason to have unleaded and diesel fuel on hand. When the can was filled, he grabbed the other and checked it as well, filling it to the top. He filled the third, the one that had been in the car already, and then started working on the fuel bladder. It too was filled with unleaded. They were still lucky, it seemed. If only in short bursts. As he filled the bladder, he looked over at Zoe.
“This is gonna take a while, go over and keep a look out.” He said.

Zoe nodded and crept out around the corner to where she could get a good view of the Estate. At their distance, to see anything of worth, she'd need to use her scope. She grabbed some gauze from her pack and wrapped it around the end of her scope. It would enable her to see through it, but if the sun happen to hit it, it wouldn't reflect as much.
Slowly, she crept through the bushed that lined the station and when she was halfway through them, she lifted her rifle and pointed it at the Estate, taking care to keep her finger off the trigger. Then she looked through the scope...
The trucks were still there, out front with a squad of men. Coming out of the back of the house, was another group of men, all dressed in black military fatigues, holding suppressed AK-47's. They joined another group who was heading back from the garage. They were in a discussion of some sorts and the leader talked into a phone, looking around.
Suddenly, Zoe's phone went off. Cursing, Zoe pulled it out of her pocket and tossed it on the ground. She used the butt of her rifle's stock and smashed it. Then she lifted it back up and spied through the scope.
The man was now point off towards town, in several directions. Zoe now realized what had happened. With no where else to look, they had called the man who had simply redialed her number. The short amount of time it rang would have pinged all the nearby communications tower and, using the satellite phone, possibly a satelite. It wouldn't have given away their location, but it would have let them know that it had gone off in the town.
She backed away as some of the men started to head for the trucks. In all, she had seen 3 black SUV's and about 18 men.
Making her way to Samuel, opened her car door.
"They tried to use my phone to locate us. I smashed it, but they know that we are somewhere in town. They are dividing up. One team looks to be remaining at the Estate, while the other two sweep the town. How are we doing on gas?"

“Just filling the tank.” Samuel said as he closed the trunk and moved to the gas cap. As a small sign of their luck running out, the gas cap was on the other side of the car, but the hose was long enough to reach. He put the nozzle into the tank and started filling it up, taking a look toward the road as he did. It took less than a minute for the handle to pop out of the pump, and Samuel took it out and thought for a moment.
Securing the cap on the gas tank and closing the cover, he looked at the pump and then at the nozzle. They needed more time, they needed a distraction. If they were discovered, they wouldn’t stand a chance trying to run.
Locking the handle on the nozzle, Samuel threw it away from the car and got inside the driver’s seat. He lit a cigarette with his lighter for the last time and tossed it out the still open door. He shut the door and started the engine, pulling away from the building and onto the street as the gas spread to the flame. He could hear the roar of flames as he pulled through an alley to try and stay off the main roads. The small explosion from lack of the underground tank being totally full was heard, but it certainly didn’t level the building. He was betting everyone would be on their way there to find out what was going on. They may just have their window of opportunity.

As Samuel filled the car up, he looked at the pump. "Oh God, I think he is going to do what I think he is going to do." Zoe hoped that their wasn't a huge tank underground, or else they would be incinerated in the blast. But it was probably their only chance. She jumped in the front seat and pulled her seat belt on. She cradled her rifle in her lap and tucked the barrell of her revolver down between the seats. She'd be able to grab it when she needed it.
Hopefully she wouldn't need it. Samuel jumped back in and lit a cigarette. "You know those things kill", she said with a smirk. He took a puff and tossed it out the car door. Then they were off.
She felt a muffled explosion, so she guessed that it was either a small tank or near empty. But the fireball that resulted from it was pretty grand. It would definitely draw their attention.
They shot across the alleyway away from the station, the Estate and the guys with guns. It was a straight shot that would take them to the Arklay Mountains. From there, they could find away to get to Vegas. With enough fuel and food, their only concern now was the SUV's.
Looking around as they sped past the buildings, she couldn't see them out there. Another problem was that the trunk was full of gas. It made the Challenger handle like a drunken hippo and one shot into the trunk and they were goners.
"Let's hope that worked. You know what I am going to buy when I get to Vegas, Sammy? A tanker truck. This scrounging for gas really is beginning to suck something fierce."

“Well, we set a big ass fire. They’d be stupid not to come take a look around.” He said as he pulled through streets. They hadn’t seen the SUV’s yet, or more importantly been seen by them, and they hadn’t been shot at. That was always a good thing.
“Just pray we can get clear of the city before they spot us.” He said. If they could get out into the mountains, there was a chance that they could lose the pursuers in the forest or the trails that winded all over the place. The best idea was to stay out of sight, but he wasn’t going to count on the best case scenario and be totally screwed when it didn’t turn out like that.
“A tanker truck, really?” He said with a smirk. “I’m gonna go get a motel room and sleep. Just sleep. For days.” He said. Even when they had been ‘safe’, they had quickly found out how unsafe they were very soon. To be able to be in a place with no zombies around, and no raiders. A vacation. That would be nice…

"Either that or a bike that runs on vegetable oil. I was reading about them before the outbreak. It would make looking for gas irrelavant."
She looked behind them, but couldn't see any trucks. It was like swimming with sharks in dark murky water. No one could see anything, but if the found you, your day would get real bad really quick.
"I say we head to the Arklay Mountains first and see if we are followed. Then we can head off towards Vegas." Zoe smiled over at Samuel.
"Road Trip."
