"We can take Anderson passed the City bank and avoid downtown. Pretty sure things are much worse there," Rich suggested.
Anna tugged at her jacket a little and nodded, grabbing her bag. "Alright, that works. Let's get going."
The woman opened the door and the two stepped out into the daylight. Smoke plumes blew off in the distance, things still not in complete control. A rank smell hit the two of them: the smell of dead meat rotting in the sun.
"F**k!" Richard cursed, scrunching his face up and leaning against the nearby wall. Vomitted fell out of his mouth alongside a gut-wrenching gurgle of his throat. "Ugh, goddamn.."
Anna had a hand clasped over her nose and mouth, a fit of gagging overwelming her. She'd been coughing loudly and her eyes began to water, but still she'd managed to look away and gently patted Rich on his back.
"C'mon...argh...we gotta...we gotta keep moving...urgh," she'd choked out.
"Yeah, yeah, alright," Rich murmured, his eyes glossy and his face pale.
The two walked down the steps, Anna helping Rich along while they shared the discomfort. The same faces that greeted them when they first arrived still wandered about, reaching for them, moaning, and smelling ranker than ever.
When the pair reached the main office they breathed in deep. The air conditioner and ventilation was working fine and it gave them some relief from what was to come.
"Alright, back in the burner," Rich said pushing the front entrance open.
The parking lot was strangely empty and, thankfully, the wind couldn't hit them from where they were. As the two made it across the pavement, some helicopters flew past overhead.
"Are those military choppers?" Rich asked looking up at them. One of them carrying some cargo via a cable hovered over a building across the street from the parking lot. Suddenly, a capsule fell from it, opening and releasing some... thing... that crashed through the roof of the building.
"The hell was that?!" Anna yelped, squinting her eyes up at the passing chopper. Whatever it was, it crashed into the Daily Raccoon. "Let's not stick around to find out, c'mon, Rich," she told him, escorting him through the maintenance shack.

[Decard, Crowley and Li are now at the Ciello Apartment Complex]DAY 3 4:38 A.M. Being low on ammunition, exhausted and battered, it took more time than necessary to make it to the apartments. They were forced to move through the hot zone as carefully and quietly as they could to conserve ammo and spare them the energy. They'd found their way through the courtyard of the complex, a few fallen corpses nearby. Others had been much to slow to get to them when sighted. Still, Crowley had kept her weapon drawn while waiting for Li to exit the office. "Found them," he suddenly said, walking out to catch up with Deckard and Crowley. He'd successfully retrieved keys to the office, maintenance shed, the generators and the roofs. "Alright, good...Deckard, you should probably get some rest for the night," Crowley began as they made their way up an extremely narrow iron staircase. "You look a little tired, Li and I can take shifts throughout the night."

"You've been awake longer than I have, get some rest. I'll take second watch, so I'll see you," Deckard said pointing at Li, "In four hours, and you," he pointed at Crowley, "In eight."
As Li ascended to the roof of the complex, Crowley and Deckard parted, opting to take seperate rooms for the night.
. . .
Deckard sat on the edge of the bed in the apartment. It was relatively untouched, no infected to speak of. It was quiet inside, the blinds were drawn, the door locked. Still, Deckard couldn't sleep. He looked down at himself. He could barely see the dried blood on his chest from his bite.
Getting up, he walked into the bathroom and stood staring at himself in the mirror. He had his scrapes and cuts from the chopper crash, minor at worst. A large scar across his face and nose from where a BOW got at him. An acid brn across his left hand from the same creature.
And a bite. On his left shoulder. It looked bad, the clotting agent he sprayed did it's best, but it looked like a half healed burn scar at best. It was like it couldn't naturally heal itself, like his body had just given up on it.
Opening the mirror, he found a bottle of hydrocodone and downed a few before pocketing the rest. That should slow his heartrate a bit, lower the speed at which the virus spreads through his bloodstream. It should also help him sleep.
Closing the mirror, he fell back into bed, letting the night take him...

Crowley wasn't comfortable with just leaving Li up on the roof alone for four hours but orders were orders and she'd been awake for nearly 22 hours. The nod and smile from Li assured her he'd be alright on his own, so that was enough to keep her satisfied with the decision.
The room she chose wasn't too far from Deckards, so if anything happened, she'd be able to hear it from across the way. It was touching sunrise and she'd laid in bed, tossing and turning, attempting to get some sleep.
An hour wasted, staring at every object in her sights, trying to get sleepy. Still, something was bothering her and she was pretty sure she knew what it was. FireStarter. They were a team with a bunch of jack-offs that were ruthless, uneducated and lacked morals.
Anything to get an extra couple of dollars in the paycheck, that was their motto. She really didn't like mercenaries at all. They had no code. If she ever ran a group, she'd ensure there were regulations. Morals. Discipline....
The woman yawned and stretched out a little, easing up a little more. FireStarter might've been morons but they were borderline psychos.
"Tch, mercenaries...." she grunted, closing her eyes. Wasn't long after she'd moved wrong and applied pressure to her wounded shoulder. A jolt of pain shot through her chest and neck, breaking her out of her almost-slumber.
"Ah!" she hissed, grabbing at it. "Ahh...goddammit..." she grumbled, trying to lay back down.
"This is going to be a long eight hours..."

It was dark. There was a noise, like a heartbeat, but slower. He was hungry, his teeth gnashed together like a rusty vice. Though it was dark it got darker, and darker. He felt a feeling a fear, anticipation, and anxiety wash over him. He was dying, a slow painful death like when someone stabs a knife into your heart and takes their time pulling it out. His stomach was hollow and pained.
Deckard awoke in a sweat. Panicking, he looked at his watch and saw the time was 8:30.
"Dammit," the man muttered grabbing his pill case, and popping another one as quickly as he could. Breathing a sigh of relief, he stood up and got dressed before heading out to relieve Li.
The day wasn't looking any brighter than the night. The stench of corpses and smoke washed over him, but didn't affect him like it usually did. He knew what it smelled like, he just didn't have the natural gag reaction he was used to.
Nevertheless, he pressed on, ascending the building and sending Li off to bed before getting comfortable. As he kept watch to ensure nothing and nobody got the drop on them, he took note of any evidence of Firestarter's trail.
A trail of dropped infected seemed the most likely route they'd had taken. From reputation, they didn't seem the type to take the safest route. A perfect team to gather combat data on your BOWs and not get too nosy.
They'd get theirs soon enough.

Li had been making his way to the room Deckard left behind when he'd heard a door open and shut. Looking over, he'd seen Crowley stepping out and shuffling toward the railing. Raising a brow, he'd looked over at her, his heart beat speeding up for a minute.
"Allison...?" he said, a painful lump forming in his throat.
She'd suddenly turned over to look at him, acknowledging his presence. "Oh, morning," she said back to him, grabbing the rail with one hand and waving a little with the other.
He sighed with relief. "For a second, I thought you were...ya know what, nevermind...what are you doing up so early?" he asked. "Deckard said to get a full eight hours."
"Having a hard time staying asleep. A bit difficult when I know we're carrying around a bunch of important data....I was thinking...what if Umbrella sends FireStarter to retrieve Deckard's data and they don't find it or us in the wreckage?" she started.
Li looked away for a moment. "I didn't think about that."
"I don't think any of us did. I better go talk to Deckard about it. I'll probably sleep better if I get a good answer from him," she said.
"I think you better try to rest up first and leave Deckard to his own. He looked unwell when he dismissed me. Might need some time to think. We have plenty of time to pick up their trail," Li told her.
"I suppose you're right. If they do find us, they'd just be making this hunt easier," she said.
"Right...so get some sleep," Li told her, going into the room.
Crowley watched her friend leave and then looked back at the courtyard below. After a few quiet moments, she'd returned to her room and attempted to sleep once more.

[Rich, Anna, and Jimmy are at the apartments][/color]
"Home, sweet, hellhole. Feels like days since we've been back here. I mean, f*ck, this city..." Rich groaned, having grown tired of their stalking their way through a labyrinth of monsters and wreckage.
Anna had been making her way across the parkinglot with Jimmy in tow. "Yeah, f*ck this city. Gotta say though, there were alot of f*ck ups living here sooo...can't say I feel sorry for anyone...ya know, besides us."
"Yeah well, I wish they'd all just drop dead instead of trying to eat our faces off. I mean, think of the children," Rich rambled, grabbing onto Jimmy's little shoulders.
The little boy looked up at him, confused. "What about them?" he asked.

"What the hell...?" Anna suddenly interrupted, trying to open the office door. "The door's locked...I didn't lock the door when we left yesterday," she said.
Rich tried the door too before slamming his shoulder into it ineffectually. "Ow, damn. Who do you think locked it?"
Anna thought about it for a minute before looking around for something to use to get in. The door had a window in it, big enough to stick her hand through and unlock the door. "Obviously someone holed up in there...it could be my cousin," she said, walking over to a nearby car. The windows were smashed in like all the others, a crowbar lodged into the back side of a trunk. Someone must've been trying to loot, she hadn't noticed it before. The thick of infected made that a little hard to do the first time they came through.
Grabbed and removing the crowbar, she'd brought it over to the door. "I gotta check, you can stay here with Jimmy if you want, that way if anything happens, you two can get out quicker," she said, removing her uniform shirt and wrapping it around the tool. She looked around for any sign of life or well...undead, before sending the crowbar through the window and shattering it.
Jimmy covered his ears from the shattering glass, it wasn't very loud when it broke but it was a little high pitched when some of the pieces crashed onto the sidewalk. A majority of it crashed inside the office on it's carpet.
Handing the crowbar over to Rich, she'd stuck her arm through the small window and reached for the lock on the other side.
======================================
Up on the roof, Crowley had been up, keeping watch. She'd been awake for almost two hours now on guard duty. When she first came up, she hadn't bothered Deckard with what she wanted to know, he looked tired and she didn't want to bother him with it at the moment.
For now, she'd sat uptop of the buildings and looked around it's perimeters for any sign of life. Most importantly, FireStarter's. As she waited, she'd suddenly heard voices coming from down below and noticed what looked like a cop, a civilian and a child walking through the parking lot. A family.
She'd waited to see what they were doing when she'd seen the officer wander over to a nearby car and pull something out. Not long after, there was a low crash of glass.
"Better wake 'em up then," she said lowly, moving away from the ledge and making her way down to the third floor. She'd wandered over to Deckard's room, knocking on the door and then to Li's room, knocking on the door as well.

Deckard was still awake from his shift, having never fallen asleep. After an hour of Crowley being on watch he'd taken another pill and laid there. A short time later, a knock came at his door.
He opened it as quietly as he could, his sidearm at the ready. He motioned at the woman, but didn't make a peep. It could be infected, Firestarter, or who knows what else.
===============================
Rich took the crowbar and unwound the uniform shirt from it. It looked like it had glass and cuts over it, but it could be cleaned out.
"You wanna hold onto this?" he asked, holding it out to her.

Anna took ahold of the shirt and draped it over her shoulder before raising her forty-five and making her way into the office. She wasn't sure what to expect inside but a part of her hoped to God her family was in there.
"Jimmy...stay close, okay? Don't leave Rich's side," she whispered to him. The little boy nodded and looked around warily, the little pattering of his feet appearing behind her. ====================================
Li had been waking up when he heard a knock at the door. He'd reached for his rifle and walked over to the apartment door, cracking it open. Crowley stood outside, her attention out in the courtyard.
The woman nodded her head forward and then over at Deckard's room. Li crept out and took a glance out to see the office door opening with a family of three walking through it.

Deckard gestured his team into his room, and so they quietly filed in, leaving the door ajar.
"There's a family of three in the courtyard. A cop, a civilian and a little boy," Allison informed him.
"Best not draw any attention," Deckard whispered, making his way through the apartment. "We'll slip out the back, follow Firestarter's trail, this way."
He drew the curtains on a window the room had and pushed it open. "After you Allison."
=========================
Rich tucked the crowbar into his belt and drew his handgun. If it was Anna's cousin, they could get her and get out of the city before anything got any worse. If it wasn't, things may have already gotten worse.
He didn't say anything, he just followed close behind Anna, keeping himself in front Jimmy

Jimmy looked around as he came through the door, he'd been looking around when he caught sight of something moving upstairs. Someone in a lot of black, clunky, armor. He'd shrugged it away, assuming they were zombies.
Anna made her way over to the far left side of the complex, apartment. Apartment 310 was up there on the third floor, conveniently on the same floor Jimmy saw the zombie.
"Rich, wait," the little boy said, grabbing ahold of the man's hand and pulling on it. "I saw a zombie up there," he whispered.
=============================================
Crowley secured the rope onto the nearest sturdy object she could find before jerking on it to ensure it's hold. "See you two down below," she said, climbing out of the window and descending the rope.
When she'd gotten down to the backside of the building, there'd been a group of infected shuffling aimlessly about. That is, until they caught wind of her. Three of them slowly started their way in the direction of her position.
Deciding to give her two comrades some breathing room, she'd lured them little ways away, afraid of using gunfire to alert the civilians out front.
Li looked out the window at her and then grabbed ahold of the rope. "I'll go next," with that said, he'd climbed out after.

"Anna, Jimmy saw a zombie up there," Rich told her, holding his firearm out in that direction. "Maybe we should clear out that room first."
Anna glanced at the apartment door and grabbed at the handle, jostling it. "It's locked....you sure you saw a zombie? Might've just thought you did..." Anna said.
"Uh-huh, it was all chunky and black."
"Well, do you wanna knock this door down, see if something's in here?"

Anna shook her head and released the knob from her grasp. "No way, what if it's that CHUM we saw back in the smith's shop? F*ck that, let's go look for John and Katherine..." she said, moving away from the door and making her way down the hall.
When they'd gotten to Apartment 310, the door was wide open. Frowning, Anna felt her heart sink into her stomach. No one was inside, that she could see. Carefully walking through the apartment door, she'd been greeted with framed photos on the wall and on a mantle.
In them were images of her cousin's husband and their daughter. Some of them had her and Katherine in it and there was even some photographs of her hanging up.
"They're not here..." Anna suddenly said, sadly. "I don't think they're here anymore, Rich," she muttered, wiping at her eyes a little. She built her hopes up to see some familiar faces but instead got an empty apartment.
"it's Kylie!" Jimmy errupted, pointing at the pictures of their daughter. "And they're the people that tried to get me and my mommy out of the classroom!"

"Well, back to square one again," Rich sighed while looking over the apartment. He rubbed at his face dejectedly before turning to face Anna. "How are we gonna find them? I mean, we've been running around this city for days and we haven't gotten anywhere. Realistically, how are we going to find two people..."
"Three people!" Jimmy piped in.
"Right, two and a half people in this?" he gestured outside the open window, the sounds of angry undead and scuffling feet resounding about outside. "We need a plan, some way to contact them or an idea of where they're heading. Otherwise we'll just end up running in circles."
