It actually took over 5 hours to arrive at Peace Point. The road, which weren't the greatest during civilized times, were even worse now in the apocalypse due to no repairs being done. The last 10 miles were not paved, just a dusty, muddy mess of a narrow two lane road.
And just because it was a mess, didn't mean it was deserted. Several times, while trying to get one of the vans unstuck, the group made contact with wild animals, zombies, or even worse, zombified animals, which in Gemma's mind, was way worse.
Still, opportunities were everywhere. At least that is what Gemma's grandfather would say. When the animals attacked, they were able to down a bear and 2 elks, which would provide skins for warm clothing and blankets and meat, which they desperately needed.
Nowadays, there was hardly any waste when an animal was killed. Gemma supposed that they has reverted to a form of the way of life that the Native Americans had lived. As the meat was divided up, Gemma took the time to grab the antlers from the elk. While she had arrows that were fiber carbon and steel tipped, this would provide her with alternatives. She had taken to trying out various materials for the shaft of the arrow and tips and antlers were decent replacements.
So by the time they had prepared the meat, killed zombies, and got the vehicles unstuck, they rolled into Peace Point as the sun was going down, which was probably the worst time to set up camp and check out the buildings.
It seemed to be the town that time forgot, and the populace forgot. Being expedient in their search of the town, Carlos blew his horn for a good 10 seconds, to see if anyone or anything would come out.
Nothing showed up. There were only 6 small buildings, no cars, and seemed to be truly abandoned town.
Gemma had come across towns like this before. It wasn't the virus, or raiders that cleaned out the place, just time. As people died, no one replaced them. Younger people moved off and forgot about it.
CARLOS: For now, lets set up the convoy around the larger building. Clear that building and see if how functional it is. It has a fire place, so lets see if we can camp in there for the night. Once it is clear, we will begin moving supplies inside for a few days. And we need to snap it up people, storms coming in from the North West.
Gemma had seen the clouds on their drive in and they had become larger and more ominous as they approached. They probably had about 30 minutes until it hit.
Gemma moved the ambulance in a position to be well covered. Medical supplies were an extra necessity and had to be protected. Then she waited until Carlos gave them the okay.
Picking up her radio, she tried to raise Jack.
"Doing okay back there Jack?"
