Polly swallowed her worry, and and tried to sound brave as the other people spoke. The woman was clearly in charge, and was far more capable of protecting herself than she was. The woman's movements had been fluid, like she had trained for things like this every day of her life. It made her remember the safe home she had left behind to help with the salvage efforts, and then her thoughts turned to whether or not she would see that home again.
"Polly. I'm Polly."
She stepped out of the way and let the woman take the lead. She more than likely had a better idea of how to escape than she did. She was a farmer, not a warrior. Right now, warriors were what they needed.

'So,' Katya thought, 'her names Polly. Better reference than crowbar girl.'
Moving, she went through the hallways and down the emergency stairs finding the exit. She drew the pistol before slowly opening the exit. As her eyes adjusted Katya saw her surroundings, and sighed in frustration. The area in front of her was heavily fortified. 3 meter high walls made cars, busses and a variety of scrap, sharpened spikes and barbed wire. And several patrolling guards.
"Well, thats annoying."

Polly had kept behind the woman, being smart enough to give her enough space should she need to quickly backtrack. The last thing they needed was her running into the woman and getting them caught. When Katya spoke, she got a little closer, clutching the crowbar she was given to her chest for safety. It was heavy in her one good hand, but she knew if she needed to she could swing it hard enough to break someone's skull. She was just really hoping she wouldn't have to.
"What is out there? Can we make a break for it, or do we need to find another way out?"
She quickly peeked out and saw the wall surrounding what she assumed was the entire building. This changed things. They weren't in a prison, they were in a fortress. She had never seen such defenses before, and with the patrolling guards she knew there was no way they were going to get past them. She began motioning for the others to go back, and told them in a whispered voice what she had seen.
" There has to be another way, maybe around the back?"

Katya kept looking around, noting the guards positions and patrol routes. There were 4 guards on the wall and 2 guards patrolling the ground between the building and the wall. Interestingly, 1 guard broke off his patrol route and headed for them, he called to the others that he was going to take a ****. Katya understood not just doing the business outside, do it enough and it would smell enough to call attention to themselves. Whether that was a human or B.O.W assault.
Katya motioned Polly to get on the hinge side of the door, and the others back, and hid opposite Polly. "When he comes in shut the door." She whispered. She bolstered her pistol and drew the knife, waiting. After about 13 seconds the guy came through the door, and Katya struck. She covered his mouth and kicked him behind his knee, bringing him down to his knees. She pressed the knife to his neck. "Where is the exit through the gate? Talk and we'll go our separate ways." "Th...through the red bus, with the blue around the doors." "Good boy, sleep tight." Katya knocked him out and patted him down. She got a tactical tanto, a semi-auto AK variant, and several magazines. She also got a Zippo lighter and half a box of cigarettes. She didn't smoke but customers paid lots for even a quarter packet.
She handed Polly the rusty knife, and shouldered the AK. "You all heard the arsehole, red bus with blue around the doors, when I tell you to, just keep running for the bus, follow Polly, ill be right behind."
She opened the door and looked for the chosen bus. Spotting it, she pointed it out to polly before stepping out, aimed at the guy on the ground, and squeezed the trigger. The guys head exploded, and the guards on the wall spun around to see who was shooting, but by then she was already squeezing the trigger. A chest shot and the rightmost guy went down, and she was already switching targets. The guards were slow in acting, they weren't expecting an attack from their rear, and it cost them their lives. After the last wall guard went down, she turned her head to the group. "MOVE!!"

"IHATEHTISIHATETHISIHATETHIS!"
Polly ran, covering her head with her good arm, and pressing her injured wrist against her chest as she ran, keeping her head low and praying she wasn't gunned down in the open. The loud sounds of gunfire filled the air around her, and she saw another person topple from the ramparts. A cry of pain to her left, and she saw that one of the men had been shot in the chest, and had fallen forward and remained still. She didn't stop running, self-preservation and fear kept her legs moving towards the bus. The bus meant safety, and safety meant she would live.

More guards were coming in from the building and the other wall sections. thankfully they weren't very good shots. unfortunately quantity has quality all of its own. and Katya was barely keeping up the killing.
one of the guys from the prisoners cried out, a GSW appearing on his upper spinal column on his back, and fell. She was almost out of ammunition for the AK, not that she had much to begin with, 2 magazines was all she had after all. once the last round was fired she dropped the AK and dashed the last few meters to the bus, following the group out the other side. they were about 250 meters away from the wall when the gunfire resumed. thankfully though, the enemy's marksman ship was remarkably bad.
How they survived at all was the question. Then again, the wall.
when they were about 5 kilometres away, the group had stopped. "Alright, does anyone want to go their separate ways? we're 5 kilometres out, and I have a good feeling that they're not good trackers."
She turned to Polly, "you're coming with me though. I need to get my stuff and then possibly do a bit of trading."

Polly wasn't used to running for long periods of time, although she wasn't out of shape. She took a knee while she sucked in a few breaths, her wrist and feet throbbing. As the others began to go their ways, she realized that she didn't know where they were, or how far she would have to travel to get back to her settlement. For that matter she didn't even know how long she had been missing, and the only way to find out would be to stay with the woman. A trading hub might be where they find out how she could get home.
"Alright, any idea how far away we are? Or, where your stuff is?"

"In the back of a van, in a post office on the corner of 12th and Anne parade." Katya went through her pockets, hopefully... yes, she still had the city map that she took from the news agency when stashing her gear.
"Okay,.." she said, getting her bearings, "we are on Vincent avenue between Annabel St and 40th, so it should be... that way." she said, moving.
it took a bit, the map wasn't the best admitably, but it was better than trying to navigate blind in a zombie infested city. when they finally got to the place, Katya had to laugh, again, at the sight.
the van that had gone through the front door of the post office was a postal delivery van, parcels still visible through the partially opened back door of the van.
She grinned at Polly, "now that's dedication to delivery!" she said before handing her the pilfered pistol with the magazines before going into the back to get her stuff, which, 'thank god', was all still there.

Polly watched as the woman started pulling her gear out of the back of the van. Thankfully there wasn't anything else coming their way. There weren't any of the walking dead around them, and for the time being they appeared to be safe. Still, she could feel her heart trying to beat out of her chest as she gripped the pistol until her knuckles were almost white on her good hand. She couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched.
"Is there some place safe around here we can stay for the night? I don't know how much longer we have before something notices us. I'd really like to find some place safe with thick walls tonight."
A lone zombie came around the be,d slowly staggering their way, but still a long ways off. She pointed it out and began aiming with her pistol. If it got close enough she'd take it out.

after a minute Katya came out, and saw the girl aiming at a zombie about 200 meters away and coming their way. "I know a place not too far away, I stayed there the night before. but before that," she put her left hand on top of the pistol the girl was aiming and gently pushed it down. "If your going to try and take out that zombie that pistol isn't exactly effective at this range. you will only waste bullets. come on, lets go get a bed for the night."
she led the way, it was about 12 blocks away, and the sun was starting to set when they got there. "here it is!" Katya announced, climbing over an suv to get over the 3 meter high brick wall and on top of the large bin on the other side. she waited until polly was with her before opening the back door to the red light district brothel. "its clear, relatively clean, and the plumbing works surprisingly. there's even a shower that works, I think there is a rain water reservoir on the roof. cold water only though. but the main thing is that its very secure, the previous owners were apparently very big on security measures."
she led the way inside. it was somewhat unkept but it looked like the owners had just closed up shop before the zombie wave first hit. "there is only one bedroom that's unlocked, but the beds big enough for both of us so no worrying over who'll sleep on the floor."

Polly had some difficulty making it over the wall, but she was glad to be inside and in a secure building. She'd never been inside a real building before, the others were farms and buildings made after the world had fallen. She had raided stores, but never stayed in the cities overnight. That was too dangerous, and anything they couldn't make off with before darkness fell was not worth dying over.
"Only one room unlocked? Have you checked the others, maybe to see what is in them? Might be some good supplies, or trapped zombies, you never know."
As they approached the bedroom, she shifted uncomfortably at the thought of sharing a room with someone. She had never shared a bed with anyone before, and felt almost uncomfortable with the idea. Feeling silly, she put the idea out of her head and placed her few items on the floor by the giant bed when they got into the room, wincing as she tried to use both hands to take off her boots.
"I don't know how long it's been since I've bathed. Can't wait to get into that shower. You want to go first?"

"nah, you go first. just be careful with that wrist of yours, you don't want any further damage." Katya waited till polly went into the bathroom before she started setting her stuff down. She was OCD when it came to keeping her weapons in good condition, which in an apocalypse was an extremely good thing. after putting her bag down she started cleaning her weapons, and she had just finished when polly came back.
"wow, you took a bit. any water left to me?" she asked, starting to strip.

Polly didn't want to admit it but she had taken longer than she normally would back home. The water was cold, but not freezing, and she enjoyed being able to rinse off the grime and the worry. She was still wringing her hair when she came back, her blonde locks still dripping a bit as she smiled awkwardly. She averted her eyes as the woman started to undress, and wrapped the towel she had found in the shower room around her shapely figure a little tighter, feeling self conscious as she waited for the woman to finish.
"There should be plenty. Sorry I took so long, it felt really good to be clean."
Once she knew she was dry enough, she found a corner and began dressing again, talking over her shoulder as she finished.
"Maybe we should check the other rooms when you're done, just in case right?"

"If you really want to, look for a set of keys. we don't know whats behind each door, for all we know there could be a breach. so if you find keys, we will check. if not then don't worry about it."
she took her time with the shower, It wasn't freezing and it was clean so it was great. she even had a large bar of sandalwood soap she had taken from one of the places she salvaged from before that was her favourite so, PLUS.
after drying off and putting the towel back on the rack she came out, to find polly looking at her in a way that made her grin saucily. "like what you see?" she asked huskily.

Polly attempted to stutter out a response, and instead turned bright red and looked at the floor. She had never expected the woman to be...one of those people, and she had caught her staring of all things! She found something very interesting to look at on the floor, and tried to keep down her embarrassment as she waited for the woman to get dressed.
"I..I wasn't...I'm sorry I didn't mean to be staring..."
She didn't know why this woman made her feel sheepish, or event slightly silly, but she wished it would stop. The last thing she needed was to be falling all over the other woman like some love sick puppy. She needed to do her part, just like back home, to make sure that they survived and made it home alive.
She coughed, and awkwardly tried not to look at the naked woman as she got the last of her things, readying herself for checking to make sure that the building really was safe, or at least as safe as it could be.
"When you're ready, I'd like to make sure it's safe. We're going to be here tonight, we might as well make sure we can sleep safely."
