Polly' eyes lit up. It was like Christmas for her. She took the rifle from Katya and held it in her hands. It was heavier than she thought it would be, and the weight felt very comforting. She didn't have to worry about having to get close to anything dead and hungry, and if she needed to use it as a club she could crush something's head in with it very easily.
"Are you sure you want me to have this?"

Cassandra dried her eyes, giving him a weak smile as she reached up and took his hands in hers. She placed them on her stomach, moving them in slow circular motions. She was already several months along, and although the baby didn't kick too often, she wanted him to feel the life growing inside of her.
"So, do you think it will be a boy or a girl?"

she embraced Polly and kissed her, several seconds later she broke it and looked into her eyes.
"I want you to be able to better protect yourself."

Polly pecked her on the cheek, and checked to see if anything else could be turned up. Other than clothes and then just some sundries, she didn't come up with anything. Oh well, what they found was enough. She was hoping they'd find the keys to a tank or something useful. She wasn't going to be sour about their discoveries.

Cassandra slid off his lap and went to her chest, pulling clothing and some old toys an stuffed animals from it, packing it in an old rucksack. She saw the man looking at her funny, and she just waved the stuffed bear at him.
"What? These toys cost a lot of scrap. The baby will love them. Not many of these pre-apocolypse toys left."

"I think I've encountered all of those parts. At least once. Come on, let's get some shut eye, IF you can manage to keep your hands off of me for the night. Something I don't think you've ever managed to do."
Polly took the blankets that the man had been using for bedding, making sure they were somewhat clean before putting them out on the floor for them to sleep on. She was checking out the window to see if Jake and the woman were coming back.
"Dammit. Katya, there's one of them outside. Must have shambled into the middle of town."
She pointed out the window and to the half rotted zombie that was making its way past the unlit homes and towards the sounds of people coming from the bar.

she went outside, unsheathed her kukri, and decapitated the zombie.
then she took the rotting head by its remaining hair, and marched towards the bar.
upon entering, she threw the head onto the bar top, emitting yells and screams.
"For f**k sake defend your town better you idiots." then she went back to the house.

Polly watched from the porch of the small house, keeping an eye out for anything else sneaking up on them. There didn't appear to be anything else, so she assumed it was the one zombie that had wandered into town.
"Come my love, let's go get Jake and his family We can help them finish packing."
She made sure the door was closed to their home for the evening, and shouldered the rifle, its weight feeling oddly comforting. She didn't want to come back to looters, or finding something dead and hungry in their room waiting for them. Besides, Polly was having too much fun being the scourge of the town, and she didn't want to interrupt her fun.

Polly leaned back into Katya's arms, enjoying being held for the moment as the two brought everything into the small home. It would suit their needs for tonight, and then they could continue their trip in the morning. Thankfully they weren't going to be loaded down, but she had a feeling the woman was going to slow them down some. She had to make sure Jake and Katya didn't push her too hard.

Cassandra put down her rucksack, the items making a dull thump as it fell to the floor. She was ready for a good night's rest, and not looking forward to a long trek in the morning, but if it got her out of the town, she would walk on her hands if she had to.

Katya answered Cassandra, "no, but we'll take it easy. no need for speed."
Katya took polly into one of the bedrooms, jack took Cassandra to the other.
katya kissed polly and undressed before getting into bed.

Polly slept comfortably with the arms of her lover around her. It was the first time they had slept comfortably in weeks, and it was almost over too quickly. How she wanted to sleep more.

Jake looked at her belly, then the bed, then back to her.
"alright."
he stripped, and helped her undress before they went to the bed.
his legs between her knees, him holding her, it was heaven.
he really was never going to be able to let her go this time.

Cassandra cuddled as close as she could, and snuggled into his arms. She had missed this. As much as she was angry when he left, she was glad he returned. She couldn't remember the last time she had slept so well.
For everyone resting, morning came too soon.

they all got ready quickly, and they left early.
the long trek was slow but sure, and despite Cassandra's pregnancy they made good time.
it wasn't long before they finally reached the compound.
"It hasn't changed that much." Katya said as they came closer to the gates.
"it hasn't been that long since you left."
"I know, it just seems wrong somehow, to have left, found a new home, a lover, and then coming back to say goodbye."
