Mickey once again cringed when the woman outside screamed. She noticed that he was also disturbed by what he had heard. "I wish I could help her out, too but there's nothing we can do for now. However, with any luck, we will run into more people that we will be able to help when we meet them." she responded as soon as the moans died down.
Then he jumped when the bird hit the window. It was comforting to know that he was also surprised by the sounds of the animals hitting the window. There was a large chance that the animals had also been turned into monsters. In fact, she was certain that they had been turned especially after watching the crow from earlier flying away with the piece of human scalp. Normal scavengers did not do something like that. Sure, they flew away with bits of animal or even human flesh, but nothing like a scalp.
Mickey stopped thinking about the animals for a little bit and listened to his story. Both stories sounded similar to each other, yet quite different. Had Mickey been born and raised in Raccoon City, her story would probably be even more similar to Kyle's. However, they did have something in common: they didn't leave in this neighborhood and wondered what it was like to live in a place like this.
"My apartment is over on Valastro Avenue. A lot of people call it the college road because most of the apartments there are rented to college students. My roommates and I all walk by this building when we go to our jobs. It seems like to be in a building like this, you have to have either a very high-paying job or an inheritance to rely on just to afford the rent." Mickey laughed as she spoke those words. "My mother would die to live in a place like this."
As Kyle left the room to check up on Chelsea, Mickey looked outside of the window again. It was really starting to get dark. There was no way that they were going to go outside and survive while it was dark. Judging by the way the monsters moved around and ate whatever they came across, they could not need any sleep at all unlike the living, uninfected people. Mickey opened the curtains a little more and took a good look outside. Through the blood spatters on the window from the birds, Mickey saw even more animals wandering around. At first, she couldn't tell if the animals, which were quickly concluded as dogs, were safe or infected. She was up too far to tell, but then she saw one of them, possibly a golden retriever, covered in blood and missing a bit of his side. Now even dogs were the enemy and unlike the other monsters, they could actually run. This wasn't good.
When Kyle returned, Mickey listed to what he said about leaving the city and giggled a little bit. As a joke, she made a little suggestion, "You can always go to Collins. It's small and nothing ever happens." She hoped Kyle knew she was kidding. It was a nice little town, but nothing ever happened. Also, if the infestation of Raccoon City were to spread further, Collins would be the next place to be infected. If Kyle wanted a place with more excitement, a larger city would probably be better.
After her joke, Mickey decided to be serious and began to share her observations. "We have some more bad news. Now we have dogs that are infected. We can easily avoid birds and run away from the people, but these dogs are running around. We should also stay here for the night and leave during the daytime. I'm pretty sure that the monsters don't need rest or sleep."
