We Are The Ones
Chapter I
Once again, I’m driving down this road.
In the back of this stupid jeep on my way to the manor. I take the gum from my mouth and stick it to the back of the drivers seat as we hit yet another bone jarring bump in the path.
“ How much longer?!” I’m getting impatient, We were supposed to be there an hour ago. Would have been there to, if not for that pack of infected wolfs attacking the jeep on our way through the south side of the forest.
I don’t need this sh%t.
I have a job to do.
When they fail to answer me I seethe silently. These stupid Indigo Corp. freaks don’t EVER speak unless given orders to.
I silently wish they followed my orders, then I could order them off the side of a cliff.
But as I think of this situation I’m in, I cant help but feel rotten about the whole thing. Indigo Corp. was a big ass problem as far as the New Order was concerned. Indigo was basically the black market of ALL black markets, and they lead the attacks on New Order. Working for them is tricky, when i cant even trust them with my knife. It would end up in my back no doubt.
After the huge Outbreak in 2009, spanning the whole planet, had subsided enough for things to become normal again, well as normal as they can be with a planet riddled with undead and mutations, the new system was set up called ‘New Order’.
They spread until they covered half the face of this globe, they are the big dogs….they control the flow of things. They control what’s considered a hot zone, or a free zone. They control you basically, and what you can buy, and where you can go.
Fun huh?
Well any way, I settled down for the trip and started kicking the seat in front of me, earning me a grunt in response. The wind is picking up now as we speed faster and faster into the open field, and I think I can just make out the top of the Manor of in the distance, Indigo’s southern HQ. I sigh was the cold air whips my spiked red hair back, it is so gonna be a wild mess after this jeeps stops.
I cant help but fidget slightly as I go over the strange phone call I received before coming to the pick up point and meeting up with these thick heads.
It had been from Karin, the mission assessor. She had been quick and to the point, apparently I was being given a high priority mission…..the highest actually. I frowned deeply at this, I’m no god d@mn spec. ops…I’m more like the errand boy. What is Indigo playing at, giving me this mission?
He sighed again as the jeep slowly stopped in front of a massively bolted fence. A guard came around to the driver and asked what their business was.
“ Bringing soldier Osiri, Dante. Number 5837. Security level 7.” The driver said handing the guard some paper work. He scanned it over before nodding.
“ Alright just let me scan him and you can enter.” Dante’s jaw set as he ran his hand through his red hair and pulled the loose spikes away from his forehead, to bare it to the guard. He took the scanner from his side and placed the cool tip to Dante’s head.
The serial code and data imprinted to his skull was immediately transferred and his story checked out.
They were allowed in, and the jeep slowly made its way across fake green grass to the entrance of the Manor.
Dante stepped out and heard his black boots crunch pleasantly on some broken glass as he pulled his bag out with him.
The driver grunted and pulled into reverse. Dante smiled and gave him the finger as the thick head pulled away. Turning abck to the Manor he took the time to look it over.
It was, well big is the only word really to discribe it. Big and overly done, it looked old, but classy at the same time. Dante scowled sourly up at it as he made his way up the stone steps and the guard stationed out side smirked at him.
" Well havnt seen you here in awhile, been busing delivering papers?" He chuckled and took out a ciggerate. Dante brushed passed him wiht out a glance.
" Dont ya know smokin kills ya Brand? Oh well I'll know doubt kill you first, so go ahea dand light it, enjoy it while ya can." He didnt have to look to know he was being given a very ****ed of stare. He shrugged it of and entered the Manor entrance.
Oh what fun this would be.
Thats sarcasm by the way folks.

Chapter II
The boy looked to be only 12 as he sat at the table, his legs kicking under the seat as he slowly sipped from the cup set in front of him. In the next room he can here the people whispering, the woman and the man.
“ I don’t want the little Sh%t head here! We didn’t sign up to take him when his no good mother died!” Her voice was strained, like she had all she could no to be yelling right now. The man gave a huge sigh.
“ Look Mary, its Gram’s son, I cant turn him away.” The woman made a noise of contempt.
“ Gram’s gone Mark! He is not coming back! Not to the Order, not to Indigo, and not for his son! I don’t want his traitor offspring here with me in my house!!”
The little boy set the cup down and pushed it away, he was trying hard not to hear the woman and man talking about him. Instead he just tried to think of his mother, Jane. Tried to pretend he was in his home complex….and she was just in the kitchen making him some lunch.
Nope no good.
He could still hear the yelling.
He jumped when he felt cold hands on his shoulders, he looked up startled to see a pretty young girl, her dark brown hair falling over her shoulders and her big dark eyes looked sad even though she was smiling at him.
“ Hi kid, you must be Dante right?” He nodded.
“ Well I’m Sara, wanna come with me?” She cast a dark look at the kitchen door where her parents where still arguing.
Dante nodded, not sure what else to do, strangely he felt comfortable with her. So in the way only a naive child can, that’s how he met his first friend.
She led him up to the second story.
“ This is a big house huh?” He nodded and shrugged his shoulders, he hadn’t really paid attention to it till now.
“ Well it cost my family a lot to get it, lots of other Order Generals wanted it, it being so close to base and all.” The boy looks up at her shyly and she gives his shoulder a squeeze.
“ Come on this is my room.” She drags him in and he notices its devoid of character, the walls plain, only a bed and a desk with a few books on it.
“ I..I like your room.” He says softly as he stands by the door as she sits on the bed, folding her legs under her.
“ don’t bother kid, you wont offend me if you tell the truth.” She laughed softly in that oh to sad voice of hers as she pats the bed and he comes over to sit.
“ Well….I-it is pretty empty.” She nods.
“ Yeah my dad believes a good soldier has good training from the time they are little, it doesn’t do me any good to become attached to material things.” He nods folding his hands in his lap.
“ I’m sorry.” She ruffles his hair.
“ Don’t be kid, I bet your mom loved you lots, bet you had lots of things.” He looked up to her, with her big sincere smile.
“ Yeah, I had my own room….with lots of comics, and some old time guns…they didn’t work though.” She looked thoughtful for a moment.
“ Don’t worry about that, dad will give you your first gun when you turn twelve….at least that’s when I got mine.” She reached in to the desk set by her bed and pulled out a small handgun. Dante’s eyes grew wide and she chuckled.
“ Yeah don’t worry he’ll start doing target practice with you soon.” She ejected the clip and handed it to him, he ran his fingers over the gold tip of the bullet.
“ Your quite kid….you miss your mom don’t ya?” He sighed and nodded.
“ Don’t worry kid, I’m your sister now, I’ll take care of ya.” He found himself in a tight hug and couldn’t help but return it.
As she took the clip from him and clicked it back in, her sleeve rose up and he saw the white scars. Not sure what he was seeing, he reached out and touched her wrist. She looked down at him and smiled again.
“ It helps kid.”
The hall was lit brightly, and I listen to my boots padding on the carpeted floor. I notice for the first time, it’s the color of rust old and tattered. Looking up I see not much has changed. The faded yellow walls rise up, the paint peeling back as it meets the ceiling. The large square windows are stained and not quite clear, its almost sad to see this place going as it is.
I don’t waste time as I head up the stairs, I know were they want me, and I’ve been there before. Dallas doesn’t like it if I’m late, and I don’t wanna end up on the receiving end of one of those bad tempers he has. So casting aside my emotions, I speed up my step and I pass door after door until I get to the end of the hall.
His door is closed shut, like it always is, and I hold back my urge to walk away right now…..Dallas and his niece creep me out. I reach for the handle chiding my self for being stupid, any personal issues I have cant be allowed to effect the way I work with these scum bags.
The door opens before I can even touch it.
Speak of the daughter of Satan.
“ Hey Dante, been awhile since you were in these parts.” She closed the door behind her and leaned on its frame, blocking him his entrance. Her creepy empty black eyes were on him and he almost shivered.
Get it together Dante! Your freaking 16 this month, get some spine huh? I hate when I see her, makes me feel like I’m a kid again, looking up at my mothers killer, knowing I cant do anything……
If I’m honest with my self, its only her that creeps me out like this. Now a days, I can kill a man with out a second glance, and sleep nice and sound in my bed, because this is what I do, I’m a merc, I’m a dog of Indigo. If they say jump I do….but her…..she creeps me out, always has from the first time I saw her.
Dallas eyed the young boy with an appraising look.
“ You’ve done good by him Mark. Only twelve and he can shoot this good?!” Dallas had in his meaty hands Dante’s file, his progression report of sorts. Dante wasn’t stupid he knew why he was here.
Mark had spoken of his step brother Dallas before, a cold hearted b#sterd who happened to be head of the eastern branch of Indigo…..Mark had come to sell him of to his step brother.
Dante shook with the indignation of it. Being sold like some kind of slave, of course he wasn’t even good enough to be a slave as far as Mark’s wife was concerned.
Dante looked out of the corner of his eye with sad look to Mark.
He had though him and the older male were becoming closer, like they had come to an understanding of each other. Dante knew he couldn’t replace the mans dead son, nor did he want to. But he only wanted his acceptance, that was all.
It appeared he couldn’t have it.
In to the room burst a ball of fury.
“ Uncle Dallas! Madam Lilly says I cant be allowed into the interrogation rooms this day!” Dante jumped silently as he looked at the girl.
She couldn’t be much older then him, her blond hair tied up with a black ribbon, her dress a dark crimson coming to the tops of her army boots. Her hands on her hips, a dark scowl on her face, her empty eyes fixed on her fat uncle.
She stomped over and sat herself on his desk, completely ignoring Dante and Mark.
“ She says I’m to rough with the prisoners! Please Uncle, tell her to let me in!!” The young girl whined, and to Dante’s distaste the huge man let out a bellow of a laugh.
“ Oh sweet heaven child, don’t through a fit! I’ll let you in if you promise not to kill them BEFORE gathering the information aright?” She heaved a heavy sigh then nodded reluctantly.
“ Yes uncle Dallas.” He chuckled. She jumped up and smiled widely.
“ But after wards can I get out the knew device?” Dallas seemed a little aghast at this little girl talking to him of torture, but he only smiled wider and nodded his yes. Taking a note from his desk he handed it to her and thanked him, adding rank this time.
“ Thank you Gen. Dallas.” She saluted him and made her way back to the door
Dante just felt sick.
She caught his eye and gave him a sickening smile.
Dear god.
“ I’ve been busy Lila, over in the western province.” She smiled, it not reaching her eyes.
“ They been keeping the kid busy for two whole months? Wow Dante I’m impressed.” He gritted his teeth.
“ I’ve been working for Indigo for nearly four years now Lila, I assure you I’m not a kid any longer, any way your only two years older then me.” She ran a gloved hand through her hair.
“ Yes well I’ve been working in Intel for seven years, so don’t talk back to me or I’ll pull rank on you.” I couldn’t stand looking at her any more so I turned my eyes to the wall next to her head.
“ Ah yes Intel, how dose torture go these days?” She nodded her head a glint in her eye.
“ Better now that that Order fraction was busted up three weeks ago, I’m slowly whittling through the members from that branch, lots of juicy info you know. But you know Dante, I’m not getting the rush I need from Intel any more, I’m taking up Tractor status as well.” I look back at her so fast I think I cracked my neck.
That b%tch…….
I’ve been working so hard to get on that team…..and she went behind my back.
She laughs stepping away from the door.
“ Well nice chatting, I’m sure you need to see my uncle so don’t let me stop you any longer, besides we’ll be seeing more of each other out in the field now.”
With that she was gone, and I was left standing there trying to sort out what I had just heard.
