Kevin had to follow Nova. As she grabbed his arm and pulled, he realized that she possessed more strength than was apparent. He was going to say something, but clamped down on it. Looking to his side, he saw that the young girl felt even less happy about being grabbed and drug along like a boat anchor. If looks could kill, we’d all be dead, he thought. He didn’t worry about much else for a moment as it took all his effort to keep up with her and not to huff and puff… she was decidedly faster than he was.
As they came to a rest, Kevin opened his mouth to speak, but the scream and gurgle from down the hallway, shut his mouth. He pulled his revolver from its holster and held his bladed staff in his other hand.
"Don't you ever put your hands on me. You ran too far. The exit is back that way a little."
”Keep it down!” hissed Kevin, looking at both of them. “Can’t we leave the arguing until we get out of this mess?” Kevin peered around the corner. The Licker-thing was still there but its back was too them, sniffing the air. Probably looking for its next meal… us! Kevin had a sinking feeling that his life most likely would come to an end today, but he was going to fight that with all he had. ”I don’t any of us can take one of those things down by ourselves and there are sure to be more of them. Once we get out , if you want to go all hero- solo on us, that’s fine, but here and now, we need each other.”

Nova looked back at July. She could understand her resentment to having a total stranger drag her down a hallway. Though, she was also getting a bit tired of having a gun pointed at her if the kid wasn’t going to shoot her. It was like having an empty threat throwing in her face. She stood up from her kneeling position and looked at July before turning to look at Kevin as he spoke. Nova couldn’t help but find herself laughing at Kevin’s comment about them not being able to talk the lickers on solo. She had the ability to take them all on, but in a way she didn’t know why she didn’t want to. She sighed a bit as she leaned up against the wall and folded her arms. In order for these two to get out of this situation it looked like she may have to. She looked out at the hall they needed to be in once again. She always hated the after effect of being in Fury and wished to stay out it, but she may not have that choice.
“How far is it back down to the exit?” she asked looking at July. “Because if it’s not far I’m pretty sure I could get you to it without too much trouble.”

July knew that they, or at least Nova, were annoyed by her pointing a gun at them. Who could blame them? She'd be mad as hell if some person aimed a gun at her for little or no reason at all. So she brought her gun down. She didn't make an empty threat because she would fire if necessary. Instead, July put her hand in her pack and felt for the radio inside. Her fingers felt for the volume dial to make sure that it was down as far as it could go. One of the last things she needed was for somebody on the other side screaming at her while she quietly walked through the monster-filled hallways of a mall she once did her job inside.
"Follow me." she ordered. Without waiting for Nova and Kevin to follow her, she began walking in the direction she came from. Her ears were kept open as she walked carefully so that if she heard a noise of a licker, zombie, or one of the dogs, she could fire a shot or run if she needed to. As she walked down the hall, she heard clicking sounds which either sounded like the nails of a dog or the nails of a licker. When the hallway split into six areas, it was time for her to lead the way to the back door. She turned and pointed to the left. She still heard the clicking sound, but couldn't exactly tell where it was coming from. However, as she began to walk in the direction of the back door, she had a feeling that it was a licker that was causing the noise. The cause of the suspicion: five feet in front of her was a body lying in a pool of blood, decapitated. She saw dogs killing people and none of them stayed long enough to take off the head of a person. Of course, she hadn't actually seen a licker do it, either, but with the large tongues they had, it was more than likely that they were the culprit.
"Just down here a little then we gotta turn." she softly called. As soon as she had done so, there was the hissing sound of a creature on the upper part of the wall to her right.

Kevin had followed July down the hall and around the corner. His cheeks burned a little bit with shame as he realized that he was allowing a teenage girl, one who couldn’t be more than 14 years of age, to lead the group. If something attacked, she would be put in harm’s way, not him. Not really noble, there Kevin, he told himself. He was about to ask to take the lead to protect July when he heard the hissing from the upper right wall. With a little gasp he saw a long tongue of one of those licker-things coming out of an open vent. It whipped around at them as if eyeing which one was first. While unsettling, it wasn’t anything like the head that held the tongue… gruesome teeth and an open brain.
”Suck a Duck!”, he cursed at the creature. He didn’t remember dropping his staff, but he did hear it clatter to the ground. He didn’t really remember aiming his revolver and probably still in shock when he pulled the trigger the first time.
Within quick succession, 8 rounds flew up toward the creature of death. Kevin didn’t know if any hit the creature, his hands were shaking so much. But the distance was short, so he would have bet that a few of his .357 rounds hit. In fact, the creature was bleeding from a handful of wounds, but it didn’t seem to kill it.
Scooting back, he came upon his staff and he tripped over it, falling backwards into the blood spill of the unlucky person in the hallway. Kevin struggled to stand in the slick blood, using his staff to steady himself. I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die. That was the thought running through Kevin's mind.

Nova couldn’t help but cringe and grab her ears as Kevin fired off his weapon. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if she wasn’t standing right beside him. Sounds hurt her ears regardless of the frequencies they gave off it was just that some of them she was able to tolerate more than others, and there were the once she could always prepare herself for to be able to deal with better. She just never expected anyone to fire off a weapon in an enclosed building with so many walkers and many more unknown creatures lurking around. It echoed as a dinning bell for those. She had to shake off the pain as the sound of Kevin hit the floor. She looked back at him and then toward the licker who was now drawn to him.
She sighed as the creature jumped for him, but instead met her as she moved in-between the two. Her hands wrapped around the wrist of the creature, and not given it time to finish its decent she shifted her footing allowing her to help the creature in another direction. As she let go the creature moment along with her strength allowed it to slam against the wall on the other side of them. She shook her head as she walked to Kevin and reached down for his shirt collar and pulled him to his feet. “Bold but stupid move there, slick,” she growled. “Now you have brought the rest of the building to us.”
She looked up as the licker moved back onto its feet and lashed its tongue out at them. She brought her arm up allowing the tongue to wrap around it, and then for an added measure she wrapped her hand around the tongue and grabbed it with her free hand. She could feel the Feral wanting to take hold of her give her more strength to fight and finish this creature off a lot quicker, but she had to fight it off. Feral did help, but the moment she came out of it she was useless for a bit. She had to fight the urge off, and had to rely on just herself. One was fine, two she could deal with, but more would be a problem. She shook her head as she pulled against the licker trying to pull her to it.
“Go through the doors. You can’t stay here any longer,” she said. Jerking the creature off its feet she used its tongue to assist her in throwing it against another wall. The moans brought the realization that their time was short. She felt the urge to enter her Feral state, but she fought it off. There were two civilians still here and they would also be in her aftermath of destruction if she did. If it was a more controlled rage then she would be able to, but she couldn’t and she didn’t want to take their lives. She finally gave up on playing with the creature and gripped the lounge tightly with both hands. With some effort, since a lickers tongue was stronger than normal, she ripped it in half and let the dead half fall to the ground. As the creature screamed in agony she turned to the others while it was distracted. “Move it,” she barked.

July couldn't help but to watch Nova take care of the licker all by herself without the use of guns as she had previously seen others use guns and maybe the occasional knife to kill the annoying creatures. She wanted to follow the order to leave. There was no use to stay here any longer except to have somebody help translate the documents she had taken from the police station. However, there wasn't any way for her to leave. While Nova was taking care of the licker, another hissing sound came from the vent. In a split second, a second licker came out of the vent. It must have followed the sounds from Kevin's gun or possibly Nova's fight.
At first, July didn't see it as she was busy paying attention to the fight between Nova and the first licker and rolling her eyes slightly at the seemingly bad accuracy of Kevin. However, she had to take notice when a tongue wrapped around her left leg and pulled her to the ground. By the time she really noticed, July was starting to get pulled through some of the blood on the floor. This was the first time she was pulled while on her behind by anyone other than a member of her family and it honestly started to scare her. She couldn't afford to waste time to stare at the face of a creature that was trying to kill her. She aimed her gun and fired two shots. The first missed and hit a nearby wall while the second hit the shoulder of the monster. It stopped momentarily and than began to pull her again. The only way it was going to stop was if it was dead.
"Let go of my leg, you damn freak!" July shouted before firing three more shots into the head, probably more than she needed. The pulling stopped and the tongue's grip loosened. July shuddered at she unwrapped the tongue from her leg. So far, there were no scratches on the part of the leg the tongue touched. It hurt a little and the worst injury she probably would have would end up being a few bruises. As she stood up, she placed her hand on her behind and brought her free hand in front of her. This was great. She was drug through wet blood and she would probably end up being shot at because her behind would somewhat resemble the wound that a bitten person would have.

Something was really different with that older lady, thought Kevin. He saw her kill one of those monsters with bare hands with minimal effort. Then she approached him, jerking him to his feet by his collar. Kevin wanted to say something about most of them already knowing they were there, but he remembered that the hand that just lifted him up like he was a rag doll was the one that killed that creature… so he thought better of it. When she said to get through the doors, well Kevin wasn’t one to argue with She-Ra over there. He only took a few minutes to unload the empty shells from his revolver and then reload them. By now, he was and expert and it only took a few seconds. Holstering it and grabbing his weapon, started to move toward the doors.
That’s when another Licker attacked July.
It wrapped its tongue around July’s leg and began to pull her through the blood toward its mouth. Calmly July pulled out her gun and fired enough bullets into it to put it down for good. Kevin felt just a tad bit… just a wee bit embarrassed. Am I the only one who can’t shoot their way out of a wet paper back, he thought.
Still, they were aiming for the door and July had stopped to check her butt. “Come on, this way!”, he half hissed / half whispered. He didn’t know why he was trying to be quiet now. The whole mall had heard them. He put his hand on the door and pushed it open, swinging his blade out in front of him to catch anything that might be waiting for them.
There was nothing. He held the door open for July to let her pass.

Nova looked at the licker as it struggled to get up and then to the one that July had dealt with. She sighed a bit as she pulled the hood of her coat down a bit more. Looking up the hall toward the walkers that were making their way toward them she shook her head. She then looked at Kevin as he held the exit door open for July. Even though she could see the walking dead making their way toward them her ears could also pick up on the subtle sounds of claws on tile or in the ducts. There must have been a nest of lickers living in the building, and the speed of their claws of the objects only indicated that they were wanting to hit the pray first. Nova quickly followed after July allowing Kevin to enter the hallway before she secured the doors behind them. The only issue with these doors was that they opened outward and that meant if the walking dead hit the door they could pile into the hallway without a problem.
“Do to the exit doors. The moment I move from these doors those creatures will enter.”
She watched and waited for them to reached the end doors. Slowly she edged away from the door as the beating sound grew. She then took off down the hall toward the others not waiting to see if the walking dead made their way through the doors only because she could hear the doors slam against the walls. Kevin was opening the door just as she reached him. She followed them out shutting the door behind her. This door proved to be a bit better with the handles instead of the push bar like the other door. She sighed a bit as she leaded against the wall. She could feel her adrenalin reaching the peak before she took to her other form. It was a lot harder to fight it off than she thought, but she managed to do it. She looked over to July.
“Are you okay? Did the licker hurt you in any way?” Though she knew the young girl wasn’t bleeding she wanted to make sure nothing was hurting. “Though I think the licker kind of regrets that he messed with you.” She couldn’t forget about Kevin either because he was the first to be confronted by the licker, and she wasn’t the least bit gentle with him when she picked him up. “Sorry about earlier. Are you okay? You’re not hurt anywhere are you?”

"I'm fine." July answered quickly, "I've been hurt worse than this before." It was the truth, but she didn't want to go into details into what had injured her in the past. "The licker probably just bruised my leg. I can walk fine." she added. As she stood on the outside of the mall, she couldn't help but to feel relieved that after the group turned, the rest of the way was pretty much cleared out. It was like nobody had come through that side exit or if somebody had, the people or monsters had left to go to another area to find more victims. She had also felt something she hadn't felt in years: worry. Not worry for Nova, Kevin, or Nix because she knew that the former two were still alive and with her and the latter was someone July had not known for a while and therefore was not somebody she needed to concern herself with. No, her worry was for Ethan. Although she didn't know Ethan for very long, she knew enough to know that he wanted to do whatever it was to protect her even if she didn't want him to. Unfortunately for Ethan, duty came first, but hopefully he would survive long enough to do what he needed to do and get out of Raccoon City.
The outside of the doors seemed somewhat quiet. There weren't any sounds of moaning zombies or clicking of lickers and dogs. All she heard were faint sounds of crows cawing in the distance. It was nothing special to her. She heard those nearly every time she had wandered around the streets of Collins in the day and early evening. They had not bothered her before. They were just around to eat any carcass of roadkill in the streets. Thanks to this somewhat silence, she was able to finally turn on the radio in her pack without having to fear getting the attention of monsters. Fortunately, nobody had tried to communicate with her in this short time and she didn't have to worry about the gang screaming at her for not getting the job completely done and returning home. She desperately wanted to get to a safe spot so she could make another attempt to decipher the information on her documents, but it would have to wait for a while. If something did come and attack her while she was looking at the document, she could drop the papers or get them ruined. She could be killed for a simple mistake like that.
She then turned her attention back at Nova and Kevin. Though she didn't show it, she was slightly amused at watching Nova pick up Kevin. She wasn't gentle but seemed somewhat concerned with his well-being. July hadn't been as amused by an event since an incident involving rivaling gangs, booze, and a nearby wannabe rapper about three years ago. It almost took the realization that she had no idea where she needed to go next off her mind.
The sounds of the crows were now starting to get a little bit louder, though not loud enough for them to be in close range of the three outside the mall. They did, however, remind the girl that it would be better for them to leave before something else came their way.
"So, where do we go next?"

Nova shook her head as she looked out across the parking lot. She adjusted the hood over her head a bit more as she listened to the birds. They sounded hungry, and their distance worried her a bit especially since July was covered in blood. They needed to get somewhere and get her some new clothes. Not to mention she didn’t know if she herself could stand being around July as she was still covered in the blood. The scent wasn’t all to pleasant to her nose. She looked over at Kevin who seemed to be to lost for words at the moment. So it seemed that July would be the best one to confide in. “To be honest. I know next to nothing about this place. My keeper was always knew where to go,” she sighed a bit as she looked back out across the parking lot. “But I do know that we need to at least get you out of the open, and a change of clothes. Those crows will be coming this way because of the scent from the blood,” she pointed out. She bowed her head a bit. “So if you’d be willing I would at least like to follow you until I know you’ll be fine.” She then pointed back at Kevin. “An to make sure he’s not too much in shock.”
She paused for a moment in realizing that she never introduced herself. "Oh, I appologize." She placed her arm around her waist and bowed a bit. "My name is Nova Cross." She stood back up and looked at July for a moment. She wasn't going to be rude and ask the young girls name since she was already rude and didn't introduce herself earlier. "I appologize about earlier as well. I never meant to make you feel threatened, but as you seen back there. There is a bit more that I could sence in there than a normal person can, and the danger earlier would have been a lot worse if we stayed where we were," she tried to explain. She bowed again. "I appologize, once more."

July blinked. Keeper? That was a word that was new to her but she didn't ask what it meant. For all she knew, the word "keeper" was the exact same as "boss." So far, she was unsure of where to go next. Kevin hadn't spoken up yet, Nova had no idea where to go and didn't know the area, and July didn't have the time or ability to understand the documents from the police station. They were all stuck in an area with no idea what the next agenda was.
Then Nova continued talking, something July was not used to you. Back home, in her family, one didn't talk unless it was for something important or they could say random things whenever they wished so long as they were one of the higher-ups. When Nova finally stopped talking, July took the opportunity to answer whatever she was able to.
"I've been here a few times for work. There are some stores a few streets down. I'm July and don't ever pull me unless you have to or if you ask first or I will hurt you." She tried her best to sound as non-threatening as she could but it was difficult with the stress of just now understanding that she had to turn back on her radio. If Nova could hear as good as she claimed, then there was no way the human would be able to hide her conversation. Hopefully Nova would not get too involved.
As soon as she turned on the radio, an angry voice came from the other side, "The hell were you doing, turning the radio off. I've been trying to get a hold of you for an hour!"
"I couldn't help it. I had to sneak by some things." July responded in a hushed voice.
"That smart-ass guy with you still?"
"No, I got rid of him. When I finish reading the paper, I'll find more stuff." An angry sigh came from the other side.
"Just hurry up, stupid. I don't want to have to send somebody after you." The conversation ended there.
July placed the radio back in her pack and turned to Nova and said as innocently as she could, "Let's take him over to one of the stores so we can take care of him and get me some new pants before the monsters come back." She pointed at Kevin as she said that line.

Nova nodded as she let July lead the way. It seemed like she knew where she was going, and the other guy wasn't going to be of much help any time soon. Her ears perked up a bit on the sound of the crows growing closer, and she hoped the stores were closer than she thought. Creatures on the ground she could deal with, but a flock of birds was a whole other story. They were to small an even though she moved quickly herself there was just to many of them. She shook her head as she looked back to the mall. Sleep was what she wanted, but never got a chance to get. She sighed a bit as she looked forward to July. The conversation she had over the radio didn't seem like a pleasent one, and she wanted to ask but it also wasn't a place for her to ask. At the moment she really wasn't on good terms with the young woman to begin with. Nova sighed again as she brought her hands up to her ears. The hood was really starting to bother them, and she wondered if there was going to be any place safe she could remove her hood.
