It had been at least a month since John and Madison had left the town. John sat upon a stump near the fire he had started to keep Madison warm. He wasn't much for sleeping too much. The two were heading west with no exact destination. They had never found Andy or Rey and had left everyone in the city behind. Troy was with the supers and John didn't think to hard about that experience. He was sitting on the stump to keep watch.
As he took his knife to a stick he was shaping into a bolt for his crossbow, the snap of a twig caught his attention. He was aiming the crossbow at the source of the noise within a second. But he was only standing looking into the darkness. He couldn't see anything but he felt something in the darkness.
As the night went on, everything was quiet. He didn't see or hear anything but he was on high alert the entire time. By the time the sun started to break over horizon, he was ready to see what had been hiding in the darkness all night but the light revealed nothing. He didn't lower his guard though, he was going to be ready for whatever it was.

No camps, no groups, no anything. Just Madison and John, survivng in the wilderness of Canada. An entire month, and neither of them made contact with any other people for longer than a few hours, and that was at the most for trading purposes. In all honesty, Madison didnt want to settle down, not anymore. It seemed that whenever she did, she got too comfortable, and ended up getting lazy. She had still been getting used to certain techniques using one arm, but she could pretty much do anything she used to be able to do. Just took her a little more time, and creativity. If she had been in a camp somewhere, she wouldnt have been able to get used to fighting the undead single handed, for lack of a better word, the thought crossed her mind and she chucked to herself briefly. But as she did, John heard a noise coming from the treeline. Maybe there was something there, or maybe he was just a little jumpy, but Madison didnt notice anything. Then again, her perception had gotten any better. Youf think after all this time it wouldve, but skills like those take years to.
Knowing that if she spoke out, it might break his concentration, so Madison kept to herself and just stood her ground, a a thirty eight snub clenched tightly in her hand. It was one of two firearms she liked to use, mainly because she could operate it with one hand. There was much less recoil with the revolver, and it had just enough stopping power to score a headshot without too much accuracy placement. It ejected the bullets easily, but getting them in took a little time, sshe would switch to another pistol, her twenty two. It was much lighter, and this one was suppressed, too. But it required a good shot trough the eye to take out a walker, but since it was very quiet, she could manage it under pressure. She preferred guns over knived, or blunt objected, mainly because she needed a good swing with a bat to do any hard damage, which required an additional hand. Blades got stuck often, and usually needed another grip to keep the infected at bay while she could pull it out, so that was also a no go. Basic combat was much harder, but luckily enough, the twenty two long rifle bullets were easy to come by, and since the snub kept the casings, she could empty and recycle them for later.
Madison learned a lot, especially over the last month. There hadnt been any drama to deal with, and only about twenty or thirty walkers they encountred since they didnt need to scavenge heavily populated areas. The only problem was the temperature drop, it seemed to get colder every passing day. The food they had was enough for another month easy between just the two of them, another reason it was good having fewer people. Before, Madison always thought it was better to be with a group, because it was more able bodies. But having just a pair had it perks, much more then even five people. Less mouths to feed. She thought about how Rey survived on her own all this time, and realized it wouldve been easier because she never had anybody else to worry about but herself. There was still no way that Madison could do that herself, and John kept her company. He never got angry, and always had something interesting to say.
But after another ten minuted went by that the two of them hadnt so much as made a peep, Madison knew there was something on her partners mind. "Mightve been an animal, but if it was, its probably long gone by now, and if it was a Zee, it wouldve attacked. You think somebody is following us?" The thought was unsettling, but if there was been any problem, John wouldve done something already. But still, now she had been getting paranoid.

John just shook his head. He didn't think they were being followed but he never ruled it out. He was still focusing on their surroundings just in case and so he didn't say much. Even though he didn't see or hear anything else the rest of the night, he couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. Even when the sun came up. He was on edge the entire time.
John prepared to leave in the morning, packing up everything into the bag he carried, when he heard gunshots in the distance. He rolled his eyes at first because he knew that this meant someone was riled up and that the walkers would be drawn to the noise. This meant that he and Madison were going to have to be careful. The shooting lasted longer than most gunfights and was more constant than people fighting off walkers for their lives. Finally after a few minutes, everything went quiet again. John looked to Madison and saw the look on her face. Before she could say anything he spoke.
"I know what yer thinkin' n yeah, that ain't normal." He said. After a minute he was ready to go. Going through the woods always meant that they would encounter less people, but the woods always ended somewhere. After walking for a while the woods started to thin out and John could see something they hadn't seen yet.
A factory sat in a clearing. It was surrounded on all sides with heavy fences. The fences were decorated with razor wire and any walkers that got caught in it. There was only one entrance and it had a fence on both sides. On the fence were walkers tired and chained to it. This prevented too many people from walking into the factory, making them bottleneck in. The surrounding area was cleared out and covered in the bodies of the dead. The place was a fortress and most likely meant bad news. John only looked at Madison to see what she thought.

The thing was, the situation couldve been a lot worse. If their had been people on foot, then they wouldve found them, and forced to deal with it. But this was different, because it was a single building, which obviously had people inside. Judging by the amount of bodies, it seemed that whoever was in there, had been for a long time. At first, Madison didnt want to bother checking the place out. Shed seen too many people, and it usually never ended good. When it did, there was nothing to gain but some trading, that was if they were lucky. Intinctively, either of them got too close, just incase whoever happened to be watching shot at them. Usually, when a factpry had been up and running, you could tell by the smell what sort of factory it was. But this wasnt running, least not at the moment. There hadnt been any smoke coming from the stacks. It could be anything from a paper mill to creating vehicle parts, the two more popular factory positions. The former made more sense, being in the middle of the forest, but there was no way to tell for sure. Not like it really mattered. Even if it was up and operational, chances are whatever they were making couldnt be used these days.
"I dont like this. Maybe we should set up camp a little further in, and wait for somebody to come or go from this place. Get an idea about who these people are. If they were coming back from that gunfire, it means they scout these areas were in. Id rather find them before they find us, you know?" Madison was sure that John agreed. Her first thought had been to just keep moving, sand get as far from here as possible. But if the gunfire was outgoing, that meant whoever had all of those guns were in the woods, so staying put seemed to be the safer idea none the less.

John set up a camp where he could see the factory but they couldn't see them. They were going to have to survive on dried, smoked, or canned foods until they were sure they were safe. John checked the area to make sure that there weren't any obvious paths nearby so that no one stumbled upon the duo. John didn't like the look of the factory and that people were using the walkers like this. Only the insane interacted with them in any way beside killing them. They could only image what was inside. It might end up being like Jaba's palace from Star Wars.
The days were slow and John still couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched at night. He had a feeling that it was a scout or two keeping track of them while they kept track of the factory. He decided that during the day he was going to set up traps to catch the scouts. Though this plan was ruined when he heard screams from a female to be let go of. He moved to see what was happening from his advantage spot. A young blonde in blue jeans and a black tank top about Madison's age was being dragged into the factor by two bigger guys. John knew that she needed help and that this place wasn't a good place to be. He didn't even look to Madison to see what she would do when he told her to stay before sliding down the hillside as quickly as he could.
He knew that if he wasn't quick enough someone might shoot him from inside the factory. Luck and surprise were on his side. Within seconds he was at the gate area where they were leading her down to get her inside. A sharp whistle from him caught their attention before they were met by John's crossbow. He didn't even ask questions only gave orders. "Yer gonna f*ckin' let her go or one of ya is gettin' hit in the face n the other is gettin' bit." John said but the two were going to try to negotiate.
"This don't concern you Archer. She took from us and has to pay." The bigger of the two said but John wasn't buying it at all. He shook his head before speaking. "She ain't got nothin' so I say yer lyin'." He then let loose the first shot which hit the bigger guy between the eyes. As that happened, the other guy reached for his gun but the girl pushed him into the wall. A walker on the wall managed to grab him and sink it's teeth into his neck he started to let out a scream but John stuck his knife in the man's temple which made him go quiet quickly.
He quickly went through their gear, taking everything important before dragging their bodies into the field. Lying them with other bodies helped hide them from plain sight. As quickly as he attacked he was back to the camp with the girl and the men's gear. It wasn't until they were back to their camp did John speak again. "So, care to tell us what's goin' on here n why I just saved ya?" But before she could speak, John recognized her. "Susie?" He asked her as he realized she was someone he hadn't seen in a long time.
He hadn't seen her since he went to prison. She was 13 when he went away. He was going to marry Sonia and she was Sonia's cousin. Then after a good hard look at John she spoke again. "How do you know my name?" She didn't remember him but seeing her reminded him of Sonia. "I was goin' to marry Sonia when ya were a teenager, before I went away." He explained to her. Realization washed over her face and she hugged him.
Once they had calmed down again, Susie explained everything from the beginning. She had left Georgia with the evacuations and stayed in a refugee camp for a month. The camp got overrun and she fled north with a group. They eventually found the heavily fenced factory and things were okay. Then a new comer changed everything. He came a few weeks ago and started bringing food, guns, and ammo to the factory but he eventually started extorting the regular survivors to better feed the soldiers. A small group, including Susie, wouldn't agree to it and they attacked the group. Susie made a run for it but they caught up to her and were bringing her back to make an example of her. John knew that these men were going to be a problem but they had human shields of scared regular survivors.

When Madison witnessed the scene below with the woman, she got a litle parenoid that things were about to get a lot worse. John handled himself easily enough, but she was up here alone at the camp, and had to watch things happen. If things did go wrong, she would be alone to fend for herself. The thought crossed her mind whether she liked it or not. You can have all the faith in the world, but preparing for the worst was always the way to go. a little negative thinking went a long way these days, because there had been mostly just nagativity left.
But thing went their way, and before long, John and the girl were up at camp, Madison making sure she wasnt going to turn on them. She had her pistol in her hand, not letting her guard down, no matter what. People were too unpredictable. Quickly as John saved this girl, she couldve very easily taken advantage of his sexist nature and got away with their supplies. Though this wasnt the case, once she realized that the two knew eachother.
As the story went on, Madison felt like it was more and more bizar, but didnt think about it too hard. What was on her mind were the rest of the people in the factory. She felt obligated to do something, and sooner rather than later given the little episode they made out front. Madison wouldve definitely just taken off now seeing their hadnt been anybody watching them, or following them, but if she was in the girls position, Madison wouldve wanted anybody to go out of their way to help her. She was more than capable of killing somebody for a good enough reason, and this was more than a good enough reason.
"How many others are inside?" Madison knew that John would be proud of her for not chickening out of this, and wanting to help. having the confidence to do something like this was against her nature, but her nature was different now then what it once was. Surving, day by day, meant nothing if she didnt help these people. Give them a chance to do the same. They didnt need to band together and make a group or anything, but there had to be something that set Madison apart from just any other survivor. She had to be willing to go something good. And she was. So long as John backed her up.

Susie thought about it, taking into account the recent deaths, before talking. "There are 5 of them now, 10 of the others. 5 of them are kids. How long have you been out here watching them?" She asked after remembering that they had a very good scout in the woods. John answered her. "A couple days. Why?" Susie cussed under her breath since she was trying to figure out a plan.
"They already know you're here then. We might as well walk up through the gates before they ambush us." She said as she slumped in her spot in defeat. But John came up with an idea. "Then let 'em come." He said as he laid out what he had taken from the two dead men. In front of him he set down four grenades, one assault rifle, one hunting rifle, two bulletproof vests, and a pair of handcuffs. After looking at the stuff he turned back to Susie to ask a question. "These guys military or somethin?"
Susie responded quickly. "Not anymore but some of them were." John nodded in understanding as he set about a plan to set up an ambush their ambush. He knew he was going to have to set up traps to try and get rid of some of the men before they reach John, Madison, and Susie. The grenades were going to be helpful. Somehow they were going to have to figure out how to make two vests work for three people.

Though it seemed at this point, they were getting ahead of themselves, and were about to be in tood eep to quit. Madiso dealt with plenty of the undead, and plenty of the sadistic survivors, but these people had high powered guns, and explosives. She was no soldier, just another civilian who was pretty good at killing. The other guns were out of question for her, and since she wasnt going to be using them, she didnt really need a vest either. "I have an idea, let me have one of those. I can be bait." If whoever was scouting them could hear them talking, John wouldve been able to hear the movement, so if somebody was watching, they were too far away to hear their plan. Madison felt confident enough that if John was going through with this, things would work out. She just knew they would. And somebody being bait meant that they could try and get the drop on them. "Okay, so heres what im thinking..."
~~~
Inside the main building, Simon sat with two of the kids, letting them know things were about to either get really bad, or somebody was here to help them. Gunfire outside was one thing, he knew how these people operated. Quite frankyl, he didnt care what they did, he just stuck with them to survive. Being a doctor meant he was useful, and they trusted him. Hearing on the radio from on of guards, he seemed to think there had been people trying to attack them, or something. It was unclear at this point, but Simon seen this as an opportunity to get himself out of here. He didnt care about the kids or the others really, they were dead weight, but he knew that if he got out he could find others, and come back for them. He had been planning for an escape for weeks now, just waited for the right time.
An explosion went off nearby, just outside the walls of the building. The two guards immediately ran, telling him to stay put. Simon knew that if he was going to do something, now was the time. And he knew where they stored their guns, and that now would be the time to get it open for everyone in case things went south. Which it looked like they already have from the sounds of things. Another explosion went off, and Simon quickly ran for the makeshift armory.
John handed the grenade to Madison as she told him the plan. It seemed that she was going to be bait while him and Susie take care of the soldiers. She took the smaller vest and the rifle as John took the assault rifle and the bigger vest. With a slight look of fear in her eyes, the two took up position as the first explosion went off. The first one caused a second explosion closer to the building.
John had his spot picked out near Susie so he could help her if he needed to. As everything was going according to plan, another factor came in from the west. Walkers. It started as a few but within moments dozens came from the woods. This was going to cause problems. As the soldiers came out the gate, their attention was on the walkers not the source of the explosions. They started firing into the crowd of undead as John watched Madison run for cover.
As the walkers started to dwindle, John took aim. Susie did the same and her shot was first. The rifle was too powerful for her and knocked her down. The shot was a miss but John's wasn't. She couldn't keep shooting because the rifle was too powerful so she took a grenade and took aim. John started to take shots with the assault rifle. Two fell but the assault rifle jammed. Now the three knew that the others were there. John took a shot with his crossbow and got one as the grenade landed near the others. One of the guys saw it in time and jumped away before the explosion. John took advantage of him being on the ground to charge at him. When the guy stood up he saw who he was.
It took a moment to recognize him but it was Andy. His hair was cut and his face was shaved but it was him. John almost stopped but Andy saw John and raised his pistol at him. A single shot was all that was left and it hit John in the shoulder. John reacted to the shot but grabbed Andy anyway. "What happened to ya? I thought ya were a good guy, not some ass hole!" John asked as he hit Andy.
Andy responded with his own punches and a quick explanation. "That b*tch Rey left me for dead those guys took me in and showed me life doesn't have to be hard." He hit John where he had been shot which made John see white. But as quickly ashe was hit John hit back. Andy wasn't as tough as he thought and so John quickly got the upper hand. But Andy wasn't willing to die and pulled out a knife and got John across his forearm. That was all it took to have John grab Andy's arm and try to make him stab himself.
Andy was quick though and dropped the knife into his other hand and took a swing at John again. John was forced to change his tactics and backed away from Andy who wasn't letting up. John circled around to avoid the knife as he took out his own knife. Andy took a swing which John dodged and as he came around for a second attempt John buried the knife into Andy's stomach. This caught Andy off guard which was all John needed to grab him. With a quick turn he threw Andy into the razor wire fence. The razor wire tore up his flesh as he tried to get free. It didn't matter what he did because John had stabbed the artery in the middle of his stomach and was bleeding to death quickly.
John slumped to the ground, in pain and covered in blood. Susie did what she could but there was no way anyone else was going to be able to fight like John had and she was grateful for it. As he sat there, she knelt down behind him and hugged him. He simply put his hand on her arm that was around his neck. "We gotta get the bullet out." He said as the pain started to come over him. He hoped someone knew how to stitch him up.
Through the mixture of the infected, the rain of bullets, the shouting, and the bloodshed, Madison had gotten inside of the factory unnoticed. She really didnt want to kill anybody, but she knew that if it came to it, she would be able to. Thankfully it didnt yet. Inside, sway past another pair of the men holding guns, dipping into the shadows. She was far from any sort of killer or assassin, but it really seemed like something from the movies in her mind. John, along with his friend, would take care of things outside, while she concentrated on making sure the people inside were safe and sound if any of the undead slipped in along behind her.
Madison made her way through different doors, seeing a lot of dirty walls stained with blood, and useful supplies. After all of this blew over, she hoped they would have time to scavenge this place, or maybe even clean it up a little and use it as a fortification for the other survivivors. It didnt take long before Madison ran into voices, and took cover again. But these were other people in danger. "Put down the gun, you and I both knew you nor your friend has what it takes to kill me." The angry mans voice echoed. Madison stepped through the doorway into the barred off room, and trained her revolver at the mans head from the back, slowely. She was going to reason with him, but thats when she noticed the bodies of two children. They looked to be fresh. Without even wondering what happened, she pulled the trigger, spraying chunks of brain matter and blood against the wall.
"Are there anymore of you in here?" She spoke to the pair, eyeing the three other children, who had been in the corner of the room. "Somebody opened this place up for us, helped up get out. The others are dead. We stayed here until it was safe, but then he cornered us." Madison made sure the other two survors were loaded up, and then she looked at the two kids, hanging her head and gritting her teeth before move back out of the room. "Come on, the gunfire stopped, lets get out before the infected find us."
~~~
After watching the rescue attempt and success from the fence, Simon held the shotgun at his waist, and stayed low. Whoever came to help them was right outside the entrance, and he didnt feel like getting a chest full of lead, so he kept to himself until they were gone. No need to introduce himself, and they would definitely find the others inside. He just wanted to leave on his own accord. He didnt care for people. But after watching the two outside, he seen one of them had been shot. Really, he didnt care much for helping him, because anybody who got themselves into this situation were aware of the consequences, and could help themselves. They didnt need a doctor. But what they did need was somebody to end the people they had killed that didnt already have holes in their head. They would turn soon, and if it caused issues, then his escape would be much harder than it needed to be, only having two shells loaded.
So he did what he had to do, and that was make himself known, and help them. Coming up to the pair slowely, Simon caughed, making himself known and making sure his shotgun had been slung upside down to show he wasnt going to shoot. "These people had an infirmary set up, we can help him here. You take care of these bodies, if not, theyll turn soon." Simons use of the phrase "These people" wouldve hopefully been enough to distinguish which side he was on. But really, the offer to help the bleeding survivor would more than likely be enough.

John stayed where he was but Susie took his knife and did what was needed. The blade sunk into each men's temple as she stopped them from changing. Once it was done she nodded at the man before helping John up. He put his arm over her shoulders as they walked inside. They weren't about to ask him for help since he didn't seem to want to offer any. John knew he was leaving a trail of blood but he didn't care. "Thanks John." Susie said from beside him.
He didn't say anything back because he didn't know what to say. He was just doing what was right. He was doing what he felt he needed to. If he turned his back on others he would be just as bad as these soldiers. He was a little upset about Andy but the guy chose his path and it was against John. He couldn't dwell on it or it would eat him up. He just had to focus on getting patched up and better before being able to continue going west. He also hoped that Susie would come with him.
Susie lead him to where he needed be since she knew where everything was. Once inside it seemed the inside had been taken back by the survivors. They were ready for any infected that might come in but it seemed any in the area were dead so more were not closer by. It was going to be painful but John knew what they were going to have to do. So John sat on the bed set up for anyone who might be sick or injured. Susie left him to go find Madison.

The irony wasnt past him. Simon knew the situation, and knew that the odds that this little girl didnt know what she was doing. The whole lot of them overthrew this place with a couple of rifles and limited manpower, which told a lot about who they were. Killers, and ones who were very good at it. But everybody had been a killer these days. The best part about these killers is they didnt kill him. So Simon did the only reasonable thing, and that was to help, given he owed them for helping him escape this place. Okay, maybe not help him escape, they did all of the work.
Coming back to the room that the man had been in, Simon passed by the little girl. She wasnt that little, but much hunger than himself. They exchanged a look, but she seen the bundles of supplies in his arms, and didnt stop to ask any questions she already knew. Simon tossed them onto the bed beside the wounded survivor, and spoke out in an honest tone. "Im giving this to you straight. Everything you need is here. Im a doctor, I can help you. But if youd rather we go our separate ways, im fine with that too. A little more finer with that then staying in this place any longer than I have too, the situation being in my favor now. But im not leaving here without supplies, so instead of just taking what you all might need, I figured id wait until you get back on your feet, and then we can reach an udnerstanding." Simon wasnt sure exactly how this was goign to go, but he wanted it to be peaceful.
~~~~~~
"Your okay, youll all be fine, were not going to let anybody hurt you. Im going to gather up everything I can, and then come back. Yell if anything happens." Madison was terrible with kids, she really just wanted to be out of the room. Looking around the building seemed like a good idea though regardless, so it wasnt just a poor excuse. Whatever she told herself. She took a mental count of everything yright now. They were safe in here. If more of the soldiers came back, they would have to get past the infected outside, and Madison would hear the gunfire. But there was something bothering her, a sound coming from further down a set of stairs. She hated going downstairs, because it usually meant a death trap.
It was a rattle, clanking of steel. If there were walkers in the basement, she could handle them easily. But thats when she heard the muffled voice. She couldnt make it out, though. Madison flicked on a kerosine lamp in the hallways, and then turned off her flashlight to save power. The clanking came from behind a door, and the voice she still count make out. Readying her gun, she swung the door open, and aimed it at whatever was making the noise on the other side. Thats when Susie came down the steps and spoke. Madison quickly glanced at her, but then back to the doorway, sputtering out an order. "Go get some water!"
The thought seemed strange, a prisoner, but that was exactly what he looked like. A tall man with a thick, unkempt beard, werking a ripped up jacket covered in blood stood on the inside of a locked storage unit, his rusty voice just barely cracking the words 'Water' and 'Please'. Judging from the looks of the room, the guy mustve been in there for weeks. Madison immediately began looking for a key, or something to pry open the door if a key couldnt be found. The latter seemed like a better idea. But then the thought entered her mind that maybe it wasnt a good idea to let him out. After all, there had to have been a reason he was locked up in the first place. Nobody else in the factory was.
Something was wrong and Susie jumped into action. She ran to get the water, not stopping anywhere along the way. It only took her a minute to find the water before she raced back. She didn't know what was going on but she was going to help John's friend and the people in this factory. Out of breath, she handed the water over to Madison. Whatever it was she was here to help.
John sat back and thought about the doctor's offer. Having a doctor around would be helpful and John didn't want to stay here either. "Tell ya what doc, you take care a me n I'll take care a you. I don't wanna stay here either." He said as he took his shirt and vest off so Simon could get to his wound. This was going to hurt and he hoped that Madison and Susie would come back to give him company. "Now or never, doc." John said as he lay down.
The thing was, Simon didnt really trust people. Nobody did, really, but he always had a knack for who he could trust, who he couldnt, and then the people where it didnt matter if he trusted them or not. These people seemed good, thats all that mattered. And as much as he wouldve loved to just skip town and be done with this place, he really couldnt just abandon all of these people, especially if they needed help. You lose sight of who you were, and you never know who you become.
"Alright, im sure you know whats going to happen, so ill save you the narration." As he spoke, he lined up a metal spoon against the wall, and used a zippo lighter to keep the flame steady. Given the supplied they had, and the gravity of the situation, this guy didnt have time to rest up, so getting him back on his feet soon as possible was the goal. Quick going for some topical alcahol and a pair of tweezers, Simon poured little amounts on the wound, and dug around for any shrapnel that mightve broken off from the bullet. Luckily there wasnt much, just a gaping hole and a lead chunk. Military grade ammunition was easiest to get out, for convenience. After extraction, Simon extinguished the lighter, and then grabbed the heated spoon.
"Hold onto something, please dont hit me." After the que, Simon held the spoon down onto the wound, and heard a searing sizzle, followed by a foul smell of burning flesh. Cauterizing the wound meant John could stay on the go, and not worry about replacing a bandage. Infection was the least of anyones worry these days, and since there hadnt been any loose shrapnel, it would be fine. Just painful, but everything these days was painful. This was the 'im alive' painful. For good measure, he tossed the bandage spool to the newely patched up survivor, and then crossed his arms. "Your call on the bandage, but my handywork should do. Names Simon, by the way. At first, didnt feel like introducing myself, because I wasnt sticking around long enough for you to care. But if im going to be here, might as well know my name. But im fine with Doc. Im used to it."
Slipping the bottle in between the thick fencing to the prisoner, Madison stood back and watched him finish half of the bottle before unscrewing the cap. She looked at Susie, who was just as shocked as she was. She couldnt have known he was in here all this time, and if she did, didnt think the guy was still alive. "Johns gonna wanna talk to him, you know, before we let him out..." Before catching any sort of expression from Susie, the man spoke out, his voice now much more audible then it was before.
"Your a smart bird. I certainly wouldnt let me out if I was in your position. But since you went out of your way to bring me that water, why dont you get me something to eat, too. If you have food to spare. Its been a couple of days. Even if I had somethign to rip open this fencing here on the inside, I wouldnt have the strength." The words didnt make Madson feel anymore easy about the situation, and maybe getting him food would be a mistake if he was dangerous. She could tell from looking at people, he was human for sure, but there was something about him. Hes seen a lot. The scars on his body, the muscles, his eyes. It all just gave off a creepy vibe. But regardless of what her or Susie thought, Madison wasnt to wait for John. "...Im going to get John, you watch him." Madison made her way back to where John was in the infirmary. She was thinking about what to say, but figured that getting to the point was the best was to explain it. "You gotta come down to the basement. Theres a guy. Hes locked up in a storage unit. I dunno, he just seems like... Like he was put there for a reason. Like hes not innocent"
After one of the ladies left, the prisoner just stared at the other girl. She seemed very familliar, like he had seen her before, here in this place. Or maybe she just had one of those faces, it was really too hard to tell. But his charm kicked in, and after all of this time spent being unsociable with anybody, it just let loose. "So, I take it you two, and your friend John...? You took back this place. Im not even sure the last time I seen anybody. Certainly wasnt expecting a pretty face to be staring back at me, standing on the other side of this cage." After using his vocal chords for the first time in weeks, and the mixture of warm water going down his throat, the prisoner began to caugh up builtup phlem, hacking away loudly, unsettling the mood like a bad smokers caugh. Only he wasnt even a smoker, just a malnurished, dehydrated sack of bones.
Susie was uncomfortable around the man. She didn't know who he was our why he was locked up. She didn't even want him talking to her. So when he started coughing, she was glad because he was done talking for now. Just for now. She didn't show any reaction when he called her pretty. She wasn't going to be won over that easy. When he did start coughing, she turned away and walked back to the stairs. She knew the others would be coming in a moment so she simply put add much distance as she could between herself and him at the bottom step. She was still holding John's knife from earlier.
John remained still the entire time he was being worked on. Sure the spoon hurt but it was not anything worse than the bullet. Simon finished up the bullet wound and handed him some bandages. He looked over his wounds, the cut and the bullet hole, and both had stopped bleeding. He noticed the cut wasn't deep and would scan up soon. He handed them back to Simon for using later no need to waste them. "Save em fer later, Doc." He said add he did. He was in the middle of putting his shirt back on when Madison came walking in in a hurry. John reacted immediately and followed her to the basement.
