Cape May, New Jersey
Cape May, once a beautiful oceanfront town, now a last stand for humanity. During the early days of the Outbreak, the Coast Guard destroyed the bridges leading into the town hoping to segregate it from the surrounding land effectively creating their own island. This helped to keep the undead at bay long enough to establish a safe community, but with fuel being scarce and boat travel the only way of scavenging outside of the town, every day is a frantic fight for survival.
Arcus Harbor
Arcus Harbor bears the name of a Bulgarian firearms manufacturer whose leftover crates of weaponry are the sole reason for the residents survival. Once a training center for the US Coast Guard, the harbor has been modified to stave off the undead and protect the docks. It is a vast community easily housing a thousand survivors who accommodate each other, but with such a large population, the dead may not be the only threat.
Ocean Point
Once a place of refuge from daily life, Cape May Point has been turned into a decent sized settlement for those who chose not to abide by the Coast Guards rules. This town is fortified well but being so close to the Higbee Beach Wildlife Reserve leaves a constant sense of imminent danger in the air.
The City of Cape May
Desolate and in ruins, the city is infested with the undead; around every corner lurks another disfigured, salivating creature. There are sporadic areas in the city that provide shelter from the nightmarish streets, but they are hard to find. Only those with the proper survival skills should venture out into the dilapidated streets.
Canyon Club Marina
Currently, this marina is the only way to safely travel back and forth from Cape May to New Jersey. The Coast Guard militarized this area to keep the dead at bay while they transport goods around the lower end of the state. For the most part, it is a forward operating base for the Coast Guard, special clearance is required from Arcus Harbor to access the area.
Inlet
The main channel from Arcus Harbor to Port Lewes, Delaware. The Coast Guard has developed a makeshift armored boat to transport people and goods regularly through an otherwise dangerous route. Even the bravest man wouldn't dare to venture near the Inlet on foot.
Mud Hen Gut
Shortly north of Arcus Harbor in southern New Jersey, lies a small town of survivors. While their defenses might not be the best, the rough nature of the people keeps the area in shape. Think of this as your go-to place to find guns for hire and some cheap beer.
Starcrest Marina
Further north of Mud Hen Gut, in the Sunset Lake, is a heavily fortified marina by the name of Starcrest. Numerous soldiers have gathered here from the Army and Navy to support the area and keep the boats in good shape. Starcrest has established it's own government and therefore is not a place to start running a muck. All travel past the marina into the northern islands is heavily enforced. Besides their restrictions, they do welcome survivors with open arms as long as they plan to help the community.
No Man's Island
Traveling north through the various lakes and canals of southern New Jersey, the Coast Guard ventured to a massive island safe-zone populated by people, or so they thought. Only one ship has been sent to the island from Arcus Harbor, it returned with a horde of the undead manned by a group of crazed and hostile survivors. Venturing to No Man's Island has since been prohibited, even if you could hijack a ship, you'd still have to get past the Starcrest Marina.
The Lighthouse
The famous Cape May Lighthouse, what was once a symbol of romance and harmony has since been reduced to a fortified sniper tower on the outskirts of Ocean Point. A small border has been erected to protect the lighthouse, luckily the undead lurk few and far between.
Higbee Beach Wildlife Reserve
Although the bridges connecting Cape May to the rest of the state were destroyed, it did not repel the spread of the virus. This area was quarantined when many of the animals became feral and began to devour people. A large conglomeration of the dead resides within; however, with the many resources that still lie inside, guards have been posted near the makeshift gates to allow scavengers to enter at their own risk.
The Yellow Trail
A large strip of dirt paths that lead through the forest of Cape May State Park to the city itself. Although a more dangerous route, it is safer than the Blue Trail that follows the beach, there aren't many hostile survivors in the woods.
The Blue Trail
A vast path of sand that encompasses Cape May Beach to the city itself. Although an easier route for spotting the undead, it is more dangerous than the Yellow Trail that veers through the forest, camps of hostile survivors stretch across the open area.
Sunset Beach
Survivors residing at Ocean Point are lucky, they can still enjoy the beauty of a sun setting upon the ocean. This beach leads to the Higbee Beach Wildlife Reserve and must be crossed in order to reach the reserve. Sunset Beach is guarded by a few snipers in an old World War II tower, however, you're warned to venture out at your own risk. You should probably pull double watchtower shifts instead.
Cape May Canal
Along the northern borders of Cape May flows the debris filled canal. The bridges that crossed into the state have been destroyed, ceasing all travel by land. The canal itself is said to have odd looking creatures wandering within. This area is a hotspot for scavengers, especially toward the northeast, where the city limits are accessible with little undead resistance.
The Bloodsoaked Cape
In the center of Cape May itself, stretching from Higbee to the city, is the expansive countryside. The undead claimed this area as their own when the Higbee Outbreak occured. Due to this dangerous territory, Ocean Point and Arcus Harbor are no longer safely connected, traveling between either is a serious risk.
Washington Street Mall
In the center of the city, a mall has been fortified into a small haven for survivors traveling in between Ocean Point and Arcus Harbor. Food and water are scarce, the people of this settlement rely on those traveling through to help them survive; and in return, they give the travelers shelter. It's not the best, but in these times, it's good enough.
