Cameron was still in the newlywed euphoria stage so it didn't dawn on him that something was wrong until he got into the truck and turned the key.
Nothing happened.
He turned it again. It wouldn't even crank. Getting out of the truck, he opened the hood and looked into the engine bay. Not seeing anything obvious, he looked under the truck. Wires and hoses hung down in a decidedly not good manner and there seemed to be puddles congealed underneath. He looked at Rissa and motioned for her to get out.
"Truck's broken", he said, gesturing to the truck. "I guess we rode it too hard on our drive from Still Creek." Cameron looked over at the Valet, "Let's get a new car for now."
Wrapping his arm around his wife, he escorted her back toward the Valet. Every so often, he would poke her in the side... the uninjured side. It seemed, at least to Cameron, that she was a bit ticklish.
Once they reached the Valet, Cameron ordered a car for them to use. The Valet nodded and called for a car. Within a few minutes, a white 4 door car, that Cameron recognized as an older model Chevy Impala, pulled around for them. Cameron held the door open for his wife and then went around to the other side. He took the keys from the Valet and gave him a nice tip and sat down in the car.
"Let's go have some fun!"

Rissa was definitely more comfortable in the car than she had been in the old truck. The vehicle was newer, and the seats made more comfortable. She could just sit back and rest comfortably in the vehicle while Cameron drove. As much as she wasn't used to cars, she could sense that Cameron had been around them for quite some time, so she felt comfortable letting him do the driving. He would do a far better job than she could.
SA they drove away from the hotel, she started pointing out interesting sights, and shops with pretty dresses in front of the large windows. A few men's specific stores were also on the crowded streets, and she made sure to comment on some of the clothes she thought he would look good wearing. This was all so exciting!

Cameron pulled into a parking lot of a strip mall. Many of the stores were closed out and windows boarded up, but there were several that were still open. He found a parking space near the front and pulled in. Putting the car in park and then turning it off, he exited the car and went around to open the door for Rissa.
"Ladies, first", he said, as he pointed to the store they stopped in front of. It was a typical women's clothing store, ranging in casual to some formal wear, across all age groups and sizes. While they wouldn't find everything they needed, Rissa would be able to pick out alot of her clothes here.
Cameron led her into the store. "I would say 'go wild', but I remember how you acted back at the hotel. So let's just say, get what you need." Cameron knew that Rissa was shy normally, but she definitely could get a little "outgoing".
Pulling into the parking lot and parking a ways off was the same white Tahoe that had arrived at the hotel. Two of the men got out and began to walk towards the store, while the other two men sat in the SUV. "If you see a chance to grab them, do, but don't do it in the store. Wait until they get back out to their car."

"I think I can manage that. Just let me know if something is too much, or if I don't need something. I can keep to the basics."
Rissa gave him a big smile as she dragged him into the store, not paying any attention to anyone else that may have been in the area. She was too focused on just being with Cameron and shopping to consider they were still in danger.
As they came in she saw the woman behind the counter giving her a knowing smile as she led her husband around through a store he would probably not prefer being in. She stayed away from the dresses that she figured would be expensive, and looked for the cheaper options. She tried to spare Cameron from the more embarrassing purchases, but she had to get undergarments, and socks, and she made sure he held them while she tried on a few long flowing dresses. Picking a few white and yellow sundresses, she looked at her bounty and gave him the best puppu dog eyes she could manage.
"Is this too much? I can put back whatever you think I don't need."

Cameron smiled and kissed her on the nose, picturing Rissa in everything that she handed him. "Looks great, honey", he said, walking over to the counter to pay. All in all, there were the sundresses and some sandals, blue jeans and long sleeve and shirt sleeve shirts. Next to that was a pile of underwear, ranging from every day cotton to items that left Cameron blushing just a bit. Socks, a pair of tennis shoes, and a leather jacket later and the counter was full.
"Here, let's add this as well", he said, picking up a cute necklace that matched a couple of the sun dresses. He knew that the more "utilitarian" clothes could be had at the Military Surplus store.
As he looked towards the back, he happen to glance in the full length mirrors. He tensed as realized that there were two people looking in at him. They were men, both in white t-shirts and blue pants. What stuck out the most... and what made his heart freeze in the throat was the marks on their arms... they were part of the Branded... Cameron recognized the markings from Rick, the man he killed. It was a mark that would forever be etched in his mind. Cameron didn't know if Rissa had noticed.
"Hey Honey", he said, finding a two piece bathing suit for her to try on. "Try this on. We may as well make use of the pool while we are at the hotel."
Then Cameron quickly paid for all the items and leaned in to the cashier. He put a $50.00 bill on the table. "Can you call us a cab and have it pick us up in the rear of the building? We will be back for all of this later today."
The Cashier nodded and placed the call, accepting the money and bagging up the clothes. She put them under the counter as Cameron made his way to the back. He entered the dressing room as Rissa was about to change.
"We need to go out the back, now! The Branded are out front by our car." Grabbing a hat and a jacket from the reject pile, he handed them to Rissa, along some sunglasses. For is own part, he pulled pulled on some sunglasses and they snuck out the back entrance.
Within a few minutes, a taxi pulled up and Cameron and Rissa got in. "Take us to the nearest Car Dealership. We need to pick out a new ride." The taxi took off and Cameron sat back, slipping an arm around Rissa. "It's going to be okay. We will find another place to stay and I'll go back and grab our gear once I know that you are safe. Besides," he says, looking down at the coral bikini that Rissa was going to try on, "It's not like you don't have something new to wear now."

"YOU LOST THEM IN A WOMEN'S CLOTHING STORE!!?!?!?!" The violence and anger from the Cult Leader was felt over the radio that the Vegas group was listening to. They had remained outside by the Impala for another 30 minutes before going in the store. The lady behind the counter had said that they were in the back trying on clothes, but when they went back there, they were gone. They had run out the back and looked around, but the trail was cold by that time.
"I'm sending another group to help you. Find those two or don't come back."
The radio clicked off and the men looked at each other. "This boy is becoming too much trouble", said one as they all checked their weapons. "I should just kill him and take Rissa for my own wife."
The group leader shook his head. "Jack wants them both back alive. They must stand trial to show what happens to women that run off and the people that help them."
The other shook his head, but nodded. "So what now?"
"Now we go back to the hotel and wait." The driver started up the Tahoe and drove back to the Flamingo. If the boy and Rissa were stupid, they would come back. Then they would grab them no matter how many people were watching.

Rissa blushed, wondering if this was clothing that people in Cameron's community wore on a regular basis. It didn't cover a lot, but she had a feeling that was the intent. And, it seemed that he was looking forward to seeing her in it. But would she be alright with others seeing her like this? It left a lot of her pale skin exposed.
"I can't wait to try it on. But I don't want you going to the room alone. What if they are waiting for you? We should go together, or have some people here come along a well. Do you have any friends here that can help? Maybe send them to the room instead?"
She snuggled down into his chest, and watched as the buildings disappeared in the windows as they were driven. The place seemed so impossibly large, how could so many people live in one area and she not know that they existed? When she left, she didn't think of where she would go, only that there was somewhere for her outside of the community.

Cameron nodded. "That is a good idea." The only thing that was irreplaceable to him was the Boba Fett figure. Otherwise, everything else, the weapons, the ammo, everything was easily replaceable. Of course that would mean they would need to replace it fast. In fact... he was coming up with an idea.
The taxi turned into a dealership that had a variety of cars and trucks available for sale. Cameron paid the taxi cab driver and opened the door for him and Rissa to exit the cab. The taxi left and Cameron led Rissa through the lot's selection of cars and trucks. "We will need something that can go offroad if need be, something comfortable, but can carry alot of gear", he told Rissa. He pointed to a row of SUV's. "Do any of these catch your attention?"
A salesman/owner of the lot quickly came out to meet them. He blabbered on about how all the cars were a good deal and so on. He also seemed to take a liking to Rissa. Finally Cameron had had enough. "Go away and leave her alone or we walk. You want to sell a car today? Then go back inside and wait for us." Cameron didn't move until the man went back in side. Then he looked at Rissa. "Sorry about that. In this community, not everyone is respectful of marriage vows."

"I'm glad you are here. You are my fierce protector. And I will gladly reward you later..."
Rissa gave him a knowing smile, and pressed herself against him while she looked at he different vehicles. She didn't know much about them, but she had a feeling he would tell her if she made a bad choice.
"That blue one. The...Toyota? Is that a good choice?"

Cameron looked in at the Toyota. It was an older model, which really didn't concern him. It was a 4Runner with an off road package. Cameron opened the door and got in. He motioned for Rissa to do the same. As she got in, he looked around. It was an automatic, which would be easy to teach Rissa how to drive. It had a sunroof, but it also had a luggage rack, off road tires, a snorkel air tube in case they went into water and a winch in the front. The interior was in good shape, with only a few stains, but nothing really bad. Like most SUV's it had a back seat that could fold down. He looked over at Rissa and smiled.
"Do you think that is enough room to have sex?", he asked playfully. He looked back over the space. With the rack on top and the spacious rear, they should be able to cram alot of their gear into the back end.

Rissa looked in the back, blushing a little and nodding. It was indeed enough for her to please him, and if he wished to check before they purchased the car...
She began unbuttoning her pants, looking over her shoulder to see if the salesman was coming back.

Cameron stopped. "I'm sorry, I was just joking. I'm not going to put you on show for everyone to see, but if it comes down to it, I want to make sure we can sleep in the back." He leaned over and kissed her, visions of them in the back playing through his mind. "I think this is the car for us. So, here is my plan. We find someone to drive the other car back and pick up our gear. We will have them drive the car around Vegas randomly. As soon as the those guys leave, we will sneak back into the hotel, grab the items from the vault and find a new place to stay. We will pick up the clothes that we bought for you and then find another hotel. Once we are set, we can call the driver and have him park the car and get a taxi to wherever. We can watch the car from a distance and if noone approaches it in 2 days, we will get our stuff. If it looks like it is being watched, then we leave it and get new gear."
He paused for a moment. "After all that, I think it would be a good idea to leave Vegas. There must be some other safe places that we can live in. What do you think?"
The plan wasn't all that original, but he had seen an episode of the A-Team where they did something like that and it seemed successful.

Rissa nodded as Cameron spoke, the plan making sense. They had already lost the Branded chasing them, and the desperate men would follow any chance of catching them again.
"Alright. Do you know someone here that could pick up the car? We could see how long it took them to follow, and then we could go back and get our things."
She gave him a hopeful smile. If they could get out of Las Vegas, they could start their lives somewhere else.

It only took a 15 minutes to whittle down the price of the truck and Cameron paid the man. Then they drove their new car off the lot and directly to a gas station to fill up. Next they returned back to strip mall where they picked up all of Rissa's new clothes and had some lunch. This time it was a typical sandwich shop. Cameron wanted to sit outside and enjoy the nice day, but safety was paramount, so they sat at the back of the restaurant.
As luck would have it, there happened to be a person that looked like Cameron, except for his eyes. Cameron approached the young man about a job. At first the man balked at it, thinking it was trick, but after Cameron paid the man handsomely, he decided to go along with it.
Walking back over to Rissa, he took her hand, helping her up. At every turn, Cameron was determined to help her make up her for the life that she had led while she had been with that religious cult... plus, Cameron just liked to treat her nice. It was the way that his dad and treated his mom.
"Time to get going dear", he said. As they got back out to their truck, he opened the door for her and then got in. "So we are going to go ahead and park at the Flamingo and hide in the back of the truck. In about 15 minutes, Darryl there will pull up to the front and go inside, leaving his car under the canopy. Then he will go inside and grab a bags that have the food in it and leave. He is to try around for 30 minutes and then take the car back to the rental place and leave. We need to watch for who is watching them. Once they follow the car, we will go in, get our stuff and leave. Then we can buy the rest of the things we need and head out of her."

Rissa nodded, smiling and marveling at how quickly Cameron had thought of the plan. To her it sounded like it would work. And once they knew who was following them, they could leave whenever they wished, able to avoid whoever was looking for them.
"Where would we go after this? Once we have everything we need, we could maybe go somewhere people don't know us? Maybe somewhere up North? I heard it gets cold there, and it rains and snows often. I have never seen snow, but it sounds nice."
She didn't think anyone would chase them that far. Even though the amount of fertile women were decreasing in her community, the effort wouldn't be worth it to bring her back. What if she wasn't though? It would be ironic if they went through the trouble of bringing her back and she couldn't conceive children.
