There’s Zombies, real Zombies. Everywhere I look. I don’t believe it I have no idea where they came from. There’s hundreds of them. I haven’t seen any of them attack, they’re just shuffling around, but they all have bites taken out of them, or wounds, and are covered in blood. So there has to have been attacks, or else how would they have been turned? Maybe they’re full, I don’t know. All I know is that there are Zombies.
It appears to be contained to just downtown though. I didn’t see any on my way here, though it might have spread by now. We need to take care of this, contain it the best we can before it spreads to the rest of the world. We need to take action before we have a zombie apocalypse on our hands. The fate of the world seems to rest on my shoulders, since no one else seems to care about the Zombies. In fact its as though they’re entertained by them! I have to call in backup.
My friends Ted and Andy will be able to help. We’ve had a couple zombie plans in play for years. We can take this. Ted’s a swords man, has taken fencing classes since he was eight years old, he’s been teaching us some moves, man I love a sword. He has an awesome collection too. Andy’s more into guns. He’s got an extensive collection of shotguns and handguns. This covers all our bases. I’ve just started my training, and I think I like the swords better.
I’ve called them already, just waiting on them at the mall. Ted’s bringing some swords, Andy’s bringing guns, and we each have specially made Zombie proof suits. Yeah, we’ve been preparing for this day alright. They’re bite proof, bullet proof, and have no skin showing. I have mine on right now, it’s kind of amusing how I’m getting more funny looks than the Zombies are.
My friends are perfect for this sort of thing. When I called them, they didn’t ask questions, just started getting ready. When I called Ted it went like this:
“Sup Dave?”
“Zombies”
“s***!”
“Yeah. Plan 3. Slow, dumb type. Agreed?”
“Agreed, I’ll get my suit on and grab the swords, call Andy yet?”
“Gonna next. I’m at the mall, south entrance.”
“Okay. Ten minutes. I’ll pick up Andy”
Then I called Andy:
“Yo.”
“Zombies”
“YES!!!”
“Plan 3, Ted’s on his way.”
“s***. K.”
Short, sweet and to the point, just how I like it. No questions, just action. I’m surprised no Zombies have noticed me yet...
Ted and Andy pull up and I hop into the back of the van.
“Holy s*** dude, there are so many.” Andy said as I got in.
“How far has it spread?”
“Not far, didn’t see any til just up the road” – Ted
“I’m kind of pumped. We get to kill zombies for real, dude! Not in a video game, in real life!” – Andy.
“I have to admit, I have dreamt about this day.”
We were all in our suits already. In the back of the van were our pre chosen swords from Ted’s collection, and our favourite guns from Andy’s. Our suits were fitted with gun holsters on the sides, and a sheath on the back for our sword.
Ted had been training us in how to use his swords, and we all had memberships to the local gun range and were all decent shots with our particular favourite guns.
We were fully dressed and ready to go. We looked at each other.
“Beers at my place if we live.” They nodded in agreement. “Ready?”
“Ready”.
We busted open the back door of the van and stormed out. Andy and I had our guns drawn and pointed in front of us, and shot every zombie we could see, Ted to our backs with his swords. We formed a triangle, and worked our way out, clearing the area of zombies as we went.
It was fantastic. So much better than Call of Duty, or any shooting game I’ve ever played. Though it was harder, headshots aren’t as easy without that crosspoint from the game. Though after a couple it became easier, and we were killing zombies in one shot. Boom, headshot. Boom. Headshot. Being able to point the gun at their heads, and pull the trigger, watching their heads explode, their brains flying all over the place. The way their bodies would slump and fall to the ground. It felt amazing, powerful, right.
I ran out of bullets then, no worries though, I have my sword. I ditched the gun and pulled out my sword. I must say, as much as I enjoyed blowing their heads off, slicing their heads in two felt so much better.
The clean swipe of the blade as it sliced through their skulls, their brains spraying on me in the process, it was beautiful, poetic even. I was enjoying this way too much. I couldn’t help myself. I think there is something in everyone where, if given an opportunity such as this, they’d take it and love it.
I had been counting in my head each zombie I killed. I was over 150 when my playlist cut out. We had all compiled playlists to listen to while killing zombies, as a joke originally, but when this happened, it seemed perfect. So I had been listening to my playlist, which blocked everything out. When the playlist ended, I heard the screams. The scrams my music had drowned out. I looked around to figure out where the screams were coming from, the zombies must be attacking some humans and I have to save them.
That’s when I noticed, it was the zombies. They were screaming, and running away. I was confused, zombies can’t scream, or run. What the hell was going on?
One of the zombies noticed me standing there staring at them, and screamed at me “Why are you doing this?!”
“Uh, have to defeat the zombies... C-can’t let it spread.” I stammered out.
The zombies eyes got wide, and continued screaming “We’re not real zombies! It’s a zombie walk!”
