((I'm gonna wing it and say my characters were in a bathroom near the front desk or something...))
Jamie had knelt down on the bathroom tile and looked down at the little girl after she'd been cleaned up of her mother's blood which stained her hands and dress. She was shivering and crying, a weakness Jamie couldn't ignore.
"Come on now, it'll be okay...your mom's in a better place...C'mon now, let's get you somewhere safe...what was your name, by the way?" she asked.
The little girl sniffed and kept wiping at her eyes. She was so small with pale skin, strawberry blonde hair and bright blue eyes. "Carolyn Morris," she told her in a squeaky, broken, voice.
"Well Carolyn, I'm Jamie and I promise I'll---" before she could promise to protect her she could hear new voices admitting from outside in the main entrance. She'd grasped onto Carloyn's hand and pushed the door open slightly to see a SWAT officer, a young woman and another child.
"Great, more company..."

Celeste was looking between her dad and her aunt at the newcomers. One was a taller girl who stopped to talk to her dad. They were talking about his work.
Then came a lady with a child. Celeste didn't notice anything about the adults, but she did notice the girl. She had been crying and her face was smeared with tears, though there was evidence of it having been wiped clean. Celeste let go of her dad's hand and crept over to the girl as the adults talked.
Celeste had never been one for not saying what was on her mind, so she spoke up.
"I'm Celeste, what's your name? Why are you crying?"

The elevator door dinged as it opened, revealing a rather large man with graying hair dressed in civilian clothing. It was assumed he was in civvies, because of the manner his hair was cut and the way he carried himself. Not surprisingly, they could see a handgun holstered on his right side. These days, especially with the infected only a wall away, it wasn’t surprising to see everyone with a gun.
He began to move around the crowd that had formed in front of the elevator before he stopped and took a long look at Conner. He had met this man before, somewhere. He knew him… But from where?
“Excuse me, sir.” He said, his tone full of authority. As soon as he could see Conner from the front, read his name plate, he raised his eyebrows.
“Conner Dempsey?” Harrison said again. Ya, it was him. They’d worked together some time ago. Back when Harrison was the SWAT commander in Chicago. And then, three years ago, he had been transferred here. And now Conner had been transferred. Funny world they lived in…

A huge man stepped out in of the elevator and Connor got a closer look at him. He seemed to walk out of Connor's past... but it couldn't be.
"Lynch. Is that you?" Connor exclaimed, sticking out his hand. Lynch had been his former Chicago SWAT commander back when Connor had applied for the SWAT Team. He has been a veteran cop, but Lynch had made him feel like a cadet right out of the Academy... but he was fair and Connor had grown to respect the man. He had wished that he had kept in contact with Lynch... especially after his dad had died.
"What are you doing here? Do they have you cleaning the windows are this thing?"
Remembering the others standing around, he made the introductions.
"I'm Connor Dempsey, a SWAT member from Chicago. I've been reassigned to a kill team here in Raccoon City. This is my sister, Ciara and my daughter over there is Celeste."
He left upspoken that his wife was gone. No sense bringing that up now and making Celeste depressed again.

Carolyn coward beside Jamie's leg when the other little girl came around, asking her why she was crying. Right now wasn't a comfortable time to get friendly. There so many adults here now and her parents were dead, unable to protect her...so many variables that had bothered the child that she had pursed her lips together and remained silent. Jamie smiled at the other little girl and crouched down. "This is Carloyn, she's feel a little sad right now, give her a chance, okay?" she asked. As this was being said, the sounds of creaking steps could be heard from the staircase up above. A woman with similar reddish blond hair had descended the steps and stopped half way, looking amongst the group of chattering people. Annoyed, she'd groaned. "What the hell is going on?" Upon seeing the glimpse of pink hair, she'd noticed the teenager right off the bat. "Jamie? What're you doing here?" she asked, practically pushing passed the people to get to the girl and the children. " Criss! I thought you were with my brother?!" Jamie asked. "Yeah, I was, we just went our separate ways recently. I came here to lay low and catch a breather, my friend lived here, ya know, before i had to shoot him in the head. Caleb is looking for you uptown though, you should prolly go find him," she mentioned. Jamie, excited by the news, had nearly ran out the door, but the child had held her back. "Carolyn, I'm gonna go find my brother and my dad, alright? I swear, I'll come back for ya, okay?" she asked, rushing things a bit. The child had shook her head involuntarily. "No! No! I don't wanna stay behind!" she cried out. Jamie frowned before looking up at Criss. "Criss will watch you. She's good with kids. She'll protect you for me, I swear, right Criss?" "What?!" "See? She will!" with that, Jamie patted Criss on the shoulder and smiled reassuringly. "Take good care of Carolyn, Criss. I'll come back soon, I promise. If worst comes to worst, we'll meet at the point." Criss sighed and grasped onto the crying child's hand. "Fine." [Jamie has left the apartment complex. Criss has replaced Jamie. =D ]

As to be respectful and seeing how most, if not all, of the people before her currently had ties to each other in some way or another, Lauro remained pressed out of the way of the group to let them finish their own dealings. Seeing that former friends and comrades with each other were being united, not only could she see that the company would be even better and it would be safer here, but also that she had more people to make friends with and even talk to; she's already had enough of talking to the dead, either yelling to them or "talking" with her gun.
While this all went down, she remained aside quietly, waiting for either of the people to talk to her, this being her way of avoiding being rude. The posture of her leaning was that of her back against the railing of the staircase, both of her arms tucked securely in front of her chest at this point while occasionally swatting the yellow tee she wore off for dust, with her jean-covered legs crossed left-over-right beneath. She had her own gun, the P-239SL, a slim-lined version of the original P-239, holstered at her left hip, just waiting to be used.

Gray sighed as he lay down in his room. Would he ever find the person he'd be sent to look for? He couldn't go back empty handed... Then he'd be bankrupt and homeless, and the probability of people hiring a homeless private detective seemed pretty damn low. He idly wandered over to his window, just to see the pink-haired teenager leaving the building. Wait, where was the little girl...? He watched the girl leave, just to check the child hadn't fallen behind or something, before leaving his room and heading downstairs. Had she really been so heartless as to leave the child in the lobby alone? After taking the stairs two at a time, he reached the lobby, just to freeze in his tracks.
The blue-haired girl was still there, but now there were SWAT members?! What was going on? After looking around again, Gray noticed a new woman holding onto the hand of the small girl. Slightly relieved, he approached them, talking to the owman. ''Erm, are you this girl's relative, or friend?'' He watched the pair closely, one hand never straying far from his pistol, especially with SWAT members nearby. Sure, it was highly unlikely that the SWAT members knew him, but he'd be arrested if they did.

Criss raised a slender brow at the man, her eyes glancing down at his side arm he'd had his fingers lightly brushing against. She'd grunted and shrugged a bit. "I'm a friend. Jamie entrusted the kid to me, what of it?" she asked, annoyed.
She didn't mean to sound so rude but being stuck in a building with law enforcement wasn't very comfortable. Not with her track record, that is.
Carolyn looked up at Criss, frowning and rubbing at her belly. "I'm hungry..." she said, sadly.
Criss looked down at her and pushed passed the man before her, leading the child toward the stairs. "I don't have any food...we can go find some, let's just go get some equipment first, alright?" she asked.
Carolyn nodded, reluctantly. "Okay, Criss.."

Ciara pulled Celest back over toward her. The lobby was filling up fast... and it didn't go unnoticed by her, or Connor that many of them had a habit of putting their hands on their guns. Either this place wasn't as secure as they thought... or they didn't like Law Enforcement.
At any rate, it was time to eat and they still had to unpack.
"We have some food upstairs... Criss", said Ciara surprising herself that she remembered her name being said by the other lady and also that she'd offer food to a complete stranger. "That is if you don't want to go out. Why don't you come up to my apartment 1416 in about 15 minutes. It won't be much... just sandwiches, but you are welcome to join us."
Ciara looked from Criss to Carolyn to Connor and then down to Celeste. I guess everyone here has a C in their name. That thought was really random as it passed through her mind.
Connor nodded. "I'll be up a little bit later. Want to catch up with Lynch."
Ciara stepped back into the elevator with Celeste and pushed the button for the 14th floor.

"Hm? I don't want to intrude, but..may I come as well?", came the soft, headstrong voice yet holding a certain air of politeness towards the one offering food. "I won't scavenge off of you, I can bring my own food. It's the company I'm after..", she explained, her own hand wasn't on her gun at seeing that they had some protection, allowing her own beautiful seafoam bluish-green eyes to wander over the new company that had found its way into the lobby of the apartments. Seeing that they were slightly on edge that almost everyone had their hand on a weapon in some form or another, she felt it necessary to explain. "By the way..the back door was ambushed by some of the undead, so you do not want to go back there.."

Ciara smiled and nodded. She stuck out her hand and held the elevator door open. "Come on up."
Ciara had always been like that, thought Connor. She was the last to complain and the first to make everyone fell welcome.
"So what's your name?" Ciara couldn't remember if she had said it. She did remember that this girl was the one who had asked if Connor was a high ranking SWAT officer. "This is Celeste and I'm Ciara."

After everyone else had finished talking, Gray spoke up bluntly. ''I'm coming. This child is my responsibility too.'' He moved his hand away from his gun, for once. ''It's my fault that she's alone now... I can't just leave her.'' Gray glanced to the blue-haired girl, knowing she'd be the only one who know entirely why he felt responsible. Directing his speech, at Criss, he introduced himself. ''I'm Gray. I was there when your pink-haired friend and the blue-haired girl discovered this child. So I'm helping. Or I'll feel guilty... probably.''

Criss stopped in mid step and sighed. She ran a hand through her messy hair before glancing at the nice lady who offered to feed the kid. Sounded good, kee her from whining the entire way to where she needed to get goin.
"Alright, we can feed Carolyn at your place but right after we've got places to be..." she trailed off before glancing at the man that pushed his company on her. She didn't like weak, feeble people around her and judging by his demeanor he was a weakling.
"If you can keep up with us, I don't give a damn what you do," she told him.

Gray glared at the woman. Well, that was a little cold and unfriendly. ''Good, because I don't give a damn about you, I'm doing this for the girl. You barely look like you can protect yourself, nevermind her.'' Despite his rude response, this girl's cold way actually attracted him. He found himself puffing out his chest slightly, ensuring he looked as tough as he was. Then he remembered himself; and that he shouldn't give a damn what people think about him. What the hell was wrong with Gray's attitude lately? He was really... Changing.

Ciara smiled at both of them. "Well the more the merrier. It's Apartment 1416 in 10 to 15 minutes."
With that the elevator doors shut and Ciara and Celeste went up. Celeste looked up at Ciara.
"Aunt C". That's what Celeste called her. "Why were they yelling at each other?"
"People don't always get along, dear, and they show it in different ways. Your Dad always gets quiet and won't talk, others yell. It's just how they deal with the stress of it."
"Oh", was all the Celeste said and then they rode the rest of the way up to the 14th floor in silence.
They found their Apartment easily and had already been furnished with furniture and amenities. They would just have to unpack their personal effects and be done.
Ciara moved to the kitchen and began to make some sandwiches for Celeste and the guests. She could tell by the look in Connor's eyes that food was far from his mind. He'd be up later.
Meanwhile, Celeste went to the windows and looked out at the city. Parts were civilized and other parts were a warzone from hell. Up this high, though it seemed quiet. Then Celeste pulled off her backpack and pulled out her favorite coloring book and crayons and laid down on the floor coloring. Ciara always said that she had the talent of her mother.
====================================
-- Down on the 1st Floor --
As Ciara and Celeste left, Connor turned to Lynch. "So what are you doing here, man? How ya been?"
He moved away from the elevator and towards a lounge/reception area off to the side.
"And where are you working?"
