The woman had shifted her gaze from Jamie's face, to the man's face and then to the other woman's. She didn't even think about infection, she'd been too preoccupied with calming her little girl. When asked about her favorite song, she didn't know what to say, her mind was wracked with guilt and exhaustion.
"How Do I Live Without You by Leann Rimes....mama says that her and daddy danced to that song when they were married," the child answered. Jamie grasped onto the little girl's shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile when the mother had finally collapsed, slumped up into the corner of the elvator.
"Mama!" she yelled in tears.
Jamie pulled the girl closer to her as she aquirmed to get to her fallen mother, by now the infection was spreading fast. She must have had a weak immune system to succumb to it so rapidly. She would have dealt with her then and there, but she couldn't trust these strangers enough to leave the girl elsewhere while disposing of the mother, therefore, she'd looked up at them momentarily.
"I'm sure you both know what has to be done, I'll take the kid up the staircase."

Even knowing that the little girl would be taken to an rather safer region of the building, Lauro cast a soft nod of understanding towards Jamie before glancing back to the woman again, a small smile present upon her curved, soft lips. "Ma'am..I want you to do something for me, as best as you can..I want you to sing that song in your head as loud as you can, thinking of your mother and father, too..", she said softly, her seafoam eyes a solemn yet ready gaze upon the woman now. It couldn't be seen now, but Lauro had her left hand tensed slightly on the handle of her Five-seveN...

Gray watched the girls talk. He was grateful to Jamie for taking the child to a safer area of the building, where she wouldn't have to watch her own Mother die. He waited until Jamie & the child were up the staircase. Casting his eyes around he noticed Lauro's hand at her gun. He put one of his own hands upon it, his voice firm. ''No, I'll do it.'' His voice grew slightly quieter. ''I already feel like I've been doing this all my life...'' Certain memories and images flashed through his mind as he aimed his pistol up at the head of the collapsed woman. Grayson waited patiently. Shooting a corpse didn't feel right... Part of him hoped and prayed that some people were just immune to the virus. Maybe she wouldn't turn into a zombie, and she could be buried with her head intact. But no. Within half a minute, the 'dead' Mother lunged at Gray. Before she could even move an inch he fired. The shot rang loudly through the air, echoed through the empty hallways, as the brain matter of the Mother splattered across the elevator. Gray moved away from the corpse, lit a cigarette, and inhaled from it deeply. This town sucked.

The gunshot was loud enough to ring in Jamie's ears as she covered the little girls atop the staircase. She hadn't batted a lash at it, knew it was the right thing to do...but somehow it made her miss her father and brother...being sparated from them had taken a toll on her and she just wanted to know that they were okay. This little girl, however, was now an orphan, left alone...her mother had died like this too, except it was her father who put her down permenantly.
"What was that?! W-what'd they do to my mama!?" she yelped, trying to wriggle free and get to the cottom of the stairs, Jamie held onto her tighter.
"Close the elevator doors!" she yelled out.

"...", Lauro remained silent throughout this. Sure, the mother was dead now..twice over, but she would've been fine if it were her to do it, not the other. With a sadden sigh, the athletic Lauro stood up to her fullest height, her head hung to the point where her elegant, silky aqua fringes were seen enshrounding the soft skin of her upper face, including that of her beautiful seafoam eyes, which were currently closed. "..damnit.."

Gray hit the button to close the elevator doors wearily, feeling tired of life at that moment. His long chestnut fringe covered his eyes completely as he inhaled from his cigarette again. To distract himself from the completely bleak situation he let the empty clip drop him his pistol and loaded a new one before holstering it quickly. Who was going to look after that girl now? Did she have... Anybody? Or was she like him, an orphan, stuck in this town? If he didn't find the person he'd been hired to find he'd go back home, bankrupt and homeless. If he stayed here he'd probably die. A wave of depression had hit him lack a sack of bricks and he slumped against the nearby wall, leaning back on it. His voice come out like a weary barely audible whipser. ''What the hell is the point in all of this? We're all just going to die in the end.'' His fringe fall back over his eyes again as he took the cigarette from his mouth and blew a soft cloud of smoke.

Jamie had descended the stairs with the little girl in her arms. She'd listened and watched as the other two had began to go soft and lose hope. What the hell was this?! There was no time to be feeling sorry for themselves! She glared and patted the tiny girl's back a bit.
"Come off it, you two. There's a bunch of undead freaks trying to eat us right now and this little girl needs to stay safe. Let's focus on keeping the kid safe, eh? We'll cry later," she told them firmly.

"Cry? Who's crying? I'd like to give them a whooping or two.", she said, her own headstrong voice chiming in at this point as her gaze had shifted from the floor to the woman she had helped save. She wasn't sad or feeling bad for herself at all; rather, the victims that had to go through with this...all the more reason for her to help put an end to this, that is if she was able to. As if to try and add to a lighter, slightly comical mood, she leaned down so she was head-level with the young girl in the woman's arms, a soft smile on her face. "Hello, cutie..what's your name?"

Gray looked up at the small girl, then to the two other people he'd just met. Zombies trying to eat them? Not really... The military would deal with this minor outbreak soon, they were in a protected area after all. Why should he care about these people anyway? Gray's usual attitude kicked in right away. The girl who had taken the child away and the girl with blue hair both seemed ok with kids, but Gray wouldn't know the first thing to say. He stood up and walked past the child and the girls. ''Well if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my room. There aren't enough zombies to worry about, and there's no point in me staying.'' He started walking away and back up the stairs, not wanting to share an elevator with a corpse.

The little girl had red, puffy eyes as the woman with aqua hair spoke kindly to her. She'd looked at Jamie's face and then at the woman's, noticing their bright hair. "Yall's hair is pretty," she told them, rubbing at her eye a bit. Not knowing how to respond, Jamie laughed a bit, of course the moment was ruined when the man in the room had started back upstairs in an uncaring manner.
Jamie didn't really know how to react, he was right, the military would handle things...but she didn't plan on staying, she had to reunite with her brother and father, but she didn't really want to leave the girl alone.
"There's an infected upstairs. Might want to take care of that while I take care of the girl, I don't live here, so I'm gonna have to go back up there to her apartment," she mentioned.
Not much else to do at this point. She could take the girl with her, but that'd be dangerous to do alone, on her own. Somehow, she felt the need to take over since her mom suffered the same fater her mother had years ago when the outbreak first started...

Much unlike the seemingly uncaring male that was walking up ahead of them, Lauro rather kindly turned to glance over her shoulder towards the staircase before returning her beautiful, shimmery seafoam gaze to the woman and the younger girl, a small smile on her lips. "If you like, you can stay with me in my room. I dun know about Mr. I-don't-care up there, though..", she said with a small chuckle before holding her soft, slightly tanned bare hand towards the woman, her other one, being her left hand, firmly on her gun handle in case any undead came after them.

Gray shrugged. ''Sure, I'll kill the undead.'' He advanced up the stairs slowly, still feeling pretty depressed about the whole undead situation. Soon enough he noticed the undead mentioned. Sighing in annoyance, he unhooked his crowbar and planted it firmly in the zombie's head with no difficulty. As it dropped without a sound he entered his room and locked the door behind him, laying down on his bed lazily. What was the point in helping those people, anyway? They weren't his friends, he'd only gone down to help with the zombies so he didn't get killed himself. He didn't care, and that was that.

[Entering Apartment Complex in Downtown Raccoon City]“But why do we have to moooovveeee!!!” came the whine from the backseat that threatened to drowned out the sound the engine of the vehicle made. Connor happened a look back. He felt sorry for Celeste and he even felt her pain, but the whining on the flight, check in of his new vehicle, and now on the drive through the patrolled section of Raccoon City had begun to ground on him. He pulled over and put the APC in park. Then he turned in his seat to look back at Celeste. It was hard to discipline her, really it was. She looked enough like her mom that Connor felt and ache in his heart. Well, more like his gut was being ripped out of his throat. He paused for a moment, steadying his voice. “Celeste, this is it… enough with the whining! I know you are not happy, but there is no way around it. I was transferred to Raccoon City. If I didn’t go, then I wouldn’t have a job. And then we couldn’t eat and we’d be out on the streets with the walkers.” Connor hated using the walkers as a way to scare Celeste into being quiet, but at this point he was going to use any advantage just to get some peace. Celeste fell quiet and Connor turned back around. As he put the truck in gear, he could hear Celeste from the back murmur something that cut him to the quick. “You let Mommy and Granna die.” The emotions choked up in Connor’s throat and the road went blurry as tears filled his eyes. Behind him he heard the soft, kind voice of his sister speak. “Now Celeste, you don’t mean that. Your Mommy and Granna would be very disappointed that you said something so hurtful. Think of all the fun that we are going to have. There will be new kids to play with and new friends. Didn’t you say that Madison and Autumn had already moved away?” Connor couldn’t see them, but Celeste nodded. Her friends and their families had moved earlier this month, though Connor didn’t know where. Ciara continued. “Plus with the walkers pushing in on where we lived, it was only a matter of time before we had to leave. This gives us a safer area to go to and we all stay together.” That was a bit of an exaggeration. It was true that Chicago was in chaos again and that if things didn’t change then they would have been force to flee, but this reassignment had happened first. Still, Connor was grateful that Ciara had sold all her house and belongings to move with them. Between the two of them they had something in the way of a small fortune and most of the belongings that they couldn’t part with were shipped out. They were going to stay in an Apartment Complex in the Downtown Center of Raccoon City. It was free of walkers and patrolled heavily by the military and police. Silence filled the air and then Celeste spoke again, this time in a low voice. Connor recognized it as her apology voice. “I’m sorry Daddy, I didn’t mean it.” “That’s okay Bug.” Connor had called her Bug from the time she was a baby. “I’m sorry that Mommy and Granna can’t make the trip with us. I love you.” “I love you too.” The rest of the journey was made in comparative silence. They entered Raccoon City and made their way through all the checkpoints. Twice they were check and boarded and then passed on through. Finally, they pulled into the Complex and were checked again. Then the guards waved him on through. As he pulled into his space, a slight grin appeared on his face. 15 years ago it would have been appalling to see armored vehicles sitting outside an apartment complex and people walking around with guns but the outbreaks made that more common. It was rare to see a sports car in a spot now. Putting the vehicle in park, Connor shut down the engine and automatically grabbed for his gun. In the back, he could see Celeste and Ciara moving to the rear to get out of the Bear Cat. Celeste pulled her backpack on and followed Ciara. Connor had to smile. Celeste was wearing her “SWAT Uniform”, dark blue jumpsuit with a bicycle helmet and pads on her arms and legs. Her backpack, by contrast, was bright pink in the shape of some Japanese Anime character that Connor couldn’t name even if his life depended on it. He knew that her gun was in there along with some ammo. When Ciara had decided to go with them, he bought her a Glock 27. It was more compact than his and fit her hand better. Plus, it would use the same ammo that he used so they could share if they needed to. She had practiced before and was a competent shot. Stretching as he rounded the corner of the truck he smiled and took Celeste’s hand. As a group, they walked toward the complex. The buildings seemed to be in square towers with a common playing area at the middle with a pool. A few children were playing in the square and Connor could tell by the look in Celeste’s eyes that she had already forgotten about her earlier complaining. Ciara caught his eye and winked. Passing by another park-like area, they approached the door of the complex. Guards were on the outside and through the doors, Connor could see more. Being around the police station, Celeste wasn’t scared, just merely curious. They were stopped by the guards and Connor handed the guard his papers, indicating his reassignment to Raccoon City and his ownership of apartments 1414 and 1416. The guard looked them over and then down at Celeste. He grinned. “SWAT’s taking officers younger and younger, it seems.” Connor smiled and then pointed at the Guards rifle. “Bug, what type of gun is that?” Celeste’s voice became one of annoyance. “Daddy, it is a rifle, not a gun. And it is an M4 with a 30 round clip, laser scope and retractable stock. It looks like a tactical light underneath it, but I can’t make the brand.” The other guard laughed and shook his head. “I better keep my eye on her or she may just disassemble it.” They waved them on through. Apartments 1414 and 1416 were side by side on the 14th floor and they were at the corner, giving them a spectacular view of the surrounding area. Connor wondered if he bought a sniper rifle could he hit some of the undead from there. It was something to think about. As they waited for the elevator, Connor wondered what kind of life they would have here in their new home. (OOC – Hey Lauro and Mikey, I’m onsite, so let’s me up somehow)

"Huh..?", came the soft, apparently teenage voice of a young woman from within an apartment room on the second floor of the complex. Hearing vehicles go by is one thing, but for one to park next to the building? What's more, she now hears what appeared to be voices of a unknown man as well as that of a woman..newcomers? Quickly, without taking off her belt and thus her gun as well, she would quickly make her way down the stairs to meet up with the, much to her oblivion, SWAT personel assigned here.
"Excuse me..by the look of your uniform, sir..you're quite a ranking SWAT member, are you?", she would softly question the male, curious as to who he is and what he was doing here. She knew of SWAT from her father, a ranking police chief before his corruption..

The elevator was just reaching the ground floor when the doorway to the stairs opened up. Connor wouldn't have paid any attention to the girl coming towards them except for two things. The first was that her eyes were a unique color of blue that he had never seen before... and second, they seemed to be focues on him.
She seemed to be early 20s, maybe even late teens. It had always been hard to tell these days and he felt like a creep when he stared at younger girls, so he just did a cursory glance. Still his police training kicked in and he turned to shield both Celeste and Ciara. He had to fight instinct of grabbing the pistol grip of his rifle.
"Excuse me..by the look of your uniform, sir..you're quite a ranking SWAT member, are you"
Connor smiled. She was direct and that was something that he appreciated. "Sorry Sunshine, just a Lieutenant. I'm Connor. This is my daughter Celeste and my sister, Ciara."
Connor indicated the young girl and then his sister. "And you are?"
