This particular Elementary school was named after a famous cartoonist of the 70's that introduced, 'Mr.Raccoon' to the public. The old school's halls are etched with motivational posters of the famous raccoon and educational posters of historical figures long past. The entire building is a single floor with atleast 500 classrooms, teaching grades Pre-K+. Now, however, there are scattered papers and books, backpacks littering the empty halls and some children, left behind to wander hungrily and aimlessly.

[Richard and Anna are at W.D. Anderson Elementary]
"Doesn't look like anybody made it," Richard said, stating the obvious as they approached the school. The ominous sound of moaning rumbled out from the building, with cars jammed in the front, making a speedy escape nearly impossible.
Anna had been walking close behind, peering into cars they'd maneuvered around. The entire school yard and the road leading to it was packed with empty cars.
"Hey, it's Katherine's car," she suddenly said, walking further ahead to get a closer view of it. "Yep, a '97 BMW M3. I remember going with her to get this car last year while John was working. Hated it sooo much...heh...my cousin said it felt safe because it was compact," she explained.
"Don't see any blood," looking inside, he saw that the locks were still in place. "And it's still locked, thats a good sign."
"Don't touch it, the alarm's probably on...don't want to set off the dinner bell," Anna said, uncomfortably. "Hopefully this means she and Kylie are still inside...you know, alive and not a zombie."
"Your cousin's husband's a cop, right? Cuz theres police lights over there, might be his car," Rich brought up.

Anna had looked over to see the red and blue lights coming the stray patrol car on the other side of the schoolyard. She'd immediately felt the urge to start running to it and see if maybe her family was indeed in the car, provided it was John's car. Instead, she'd looked around cautiously, then nodded her head forward.
"Let's go see, if we're lucky it's John's car," she agreed, moving through the barricade of vehicles to get a closer look. Half way there, she stopped and taken quick notice of the completely wrecked backside of the car and the barely visible patrol number. Sure enough, it was John's.
To make matters worse, there were atleast five or six infected swarmed around the car trying depserately to get in. "Do you think they're in there still? Or maybe the infected are just attracted to the bright lights...?" she asked to no one in particular.
"Depends," Rich responded.
"Wha? On what?"
"On how good of a shot this John is," Rich said, gesturing with his foot to a trail of bodies leading up to the school.
Anna glanced over to see the bodies all lying face up, sprawled between the cars and the broken makeshift barricade infront of the entrance. The nearest one with a gaping hole in it's forehead.
"Ho'sh*t, she swore before looking back at Rich. "I guess we better get inside then, maybe they're holed up in there somewhere."

The pair followed the bodies like breadcumbs to the entrance of the school. Anna helped Rich up onto one of the cars blocking the front doors, and helped him down after getting the doors opened.
Anna lead him into the entry hall of the school that had been occupied with construction paper decorations and flyers advertising their yearly Fall Festival. A banner had been posted above the main office that read: Welcome Back Lil' Bandits.
Lying underneath it was a propped up corpse, with a nasty bullet wound in the face.
"F*ck, I wish I was that good of a shot...I swear you'd think he was blood related to me, but instead we got Katherine," Anna commented, exasperated.
"Either way, he's got one hell of a calling card." The man struggled with his cuffs a little, feeling uneasy. "Dammit I hope we find him soon, these things are beginning to feel numb."
Anna looked over at him and then at his hands behind his back, grimacing. "Damn, Rich, your hands are outta there, buddy..." she said to him, concerned.
Richard grunted and shifted his hands around before looking around the halls. "Trail goes cold here: I don't see any dead heads around."

Anna sighed and ran a hand through her hair before looking at the hall far to their left and the one far to their right. She'd been here two or three times to pick up Kylie when her parents were working.
"I think we should head to Kylie's classroom first, seems like a place to hide," she told him when suddenly there'd came a clank from behind them. Their main office was partially glass cased and from the looks of it, there'd been smeared blood and handprints from the inside. Somewhere down the line, there'd been broken blinds and what looked like an office worker slamming her palms against the glass. There was a muffled groan and then several more as five more faces and pairs of hands appeared in the glass, clawing at it to get to them.
"We should...get going..." Anna said, swallowing the newly formed lump in her throat.
"Lead the way..." Rich trailed off, watching as the glass began to shake in place.
Anna had escorted Rich through the West Hall, looking back and fourth at each wall. There'd been motivational pictures with Mr. Raccoon, hand drawn artwork and sparkling, colorful letters spelling out the ABC's. Meanwhile the floor had been sticky and gooey with what looked like old blood. The blood also seemed to smear along the brick walls where some of the decorations had been ripped off and strewn about the floors.
From inside one of the nearby classrooms, Anna could hear movement. She'd put her hand out to Rich, gesturing for him to stay still and quiet. Moving closer to the class, she'd peeked in through the long, narrow window in the bright blue door. Much to her disgust, there'd been several smaller bodies feasting on two other smaller bodies.
"Urgh!" she's grunted, stumbling back and looking away from the window. She'd felt the sting of vomit in her throat and tears build up in her eyes. "Christ...oh God..."

Rich tried to reach out to her, but only felt his wrists dig into the sharp metal once more.
"Come on, keep it together," he whispered to her. He could hear the disgusting sounds coming from the room, but didn't need to peek in to know what was inside. She'd clasped one of her hands over her mouth, muffling her gags before glancing over at Rich.
"Yeah, right..." she grumbled.
"Come on, deep breaths, there's probably a water fountain somewhere..." He stopped, hearing the sound of shambling footsteps coming from somewhere in the school's halls.
Anna wrinkled her nose at him and shook her head. "I don't think I want to drink anything attached to this school...c'mon, we should keep moving..." she trailed off, looking away.
"After you..."

Eventually when they were a good distance from the infested classroom, Anna had began to break the present awkward silence between herself and Rich. "I just realized I didn't even bother to look again to see if Kylie was...you know...in there," she whispered, afraid of attracting anything that could be hiding in the halls.
"She wasn't, if that wasn't her classroom, she wouldn't be in there. Besides, your cousin might've already picked her up, alright?" Rich said, trying to reassure her.
Anna nodded and continued looking up at the classroom numbers as they'd continued walking through. Turning a corner, she'd spotted the small trophy case with various framed lists of their Honor Roll Students.
"I used to hate these Honor Roll lists. It's just ammo for bullies," she commented.
"Too bad it isn't literal ammo."
Anna stifled a chuckle before looking back at one of the posters hanging up on the wall behind Rich. A 'Zero Gun Tolerance' poster had appropriately graced that wall. "Pfft...heh heh heh hehehe...."
"What? What is it? Do I have something on my face?" Rich asked, puzzled as to why she was looking at him and laughing.
"No-no, well, I mean, I was laughing at you and at the appropriate poster on the wall behind you," she responded, pointing at the poster behind him.
Rich turned around and began grinning almost immediately. "Oh my God, I swear, this, this is just... this."
The two continued to grin and chuckle up until something came shuffling from around the farther corner. It was another little ghoul. Her arms were outstretched and she'd moaned aloud, initiating a choir of other noises that accompanied three others. They'd seemed distracted and flocked over to a specific classroom, scratching and pawing at the door.
One of them, Anna had noted, had multiple pens and pencils stabbed into it's face and arms. Someone must have been inside the classroom, alive. "That's not Kylie's classroom. Dammit, there's three of them...I-I-I can't put down three kids, I just...I can't," she rambled on, nervously.
Rich stepped up beside her. "They're trying to get in there Anna, someone might be alive in there." He didn't want to tell her to do it, he couldn't do that to her. This wasn't something that was easy to do, but his hands were tied.
One of the infected children had grunted and looked over to see the two of them down the hall, it completely forgot what it was doing in the first place and broke away from the others, shuffling in their direction.
Anna watched the pig-tailed child close in on them and raised her handgun up to it's face, lowering her aim slightly afterwards. She'd felt tears slip down her flushed face and pulled the trigger.
BANG!

Rich looked away as Anna took care of them, flinching and tensing up with each gunshot. Things were quiet for a short while before he turned back to look at Anna. She had kept her back to him, her arms still outstretched and aiming at nothing. Her shoulder began to visibly shake and she'd let out a small cry.
"Oh God...Oh my God....God..." she said out loud, overlooking the four small corpses.
"Anna, come on, come on back, its okay, its okay, its okay..." he trailed off.
Anna lowered her gun and wiped at her eyes with her free hand. Before long, she'd turned over to face the wall and doubled over, vomitting onto the ground, little ways away from a little boy's body.
Rich's own stomach turned at the sight, sound, and smell of his friend's stomach contents. He kept his composure however and told her, "Anna, there might be someone in there."
The officer continued to gag and cough before she'd pulled herself together, long enough to look back at him, her eyes swollen and red. "I-I'm sorry..."
"It's okay, you shouldn't have had to do that," he said with a tone of remorse. Anna had frowned and nodded, solemnly before she'd shuffled her own legs over to the classroom door. "I hope to God that wasn't for nothing," she managed to choke out.
"Me too."

Anna had approached the small window of the classroom door, silently praying that there was soemone, atleast someone alive inside. From what she could see, the entire classroom was empty. That is, until she'd positioned herself in such a way that she'd noticed a woman sitting in the farthest corner in a puddle of her own blood.
Knocking on the window, she'd frowned. "Hello...are you alive in there?" she asked. There'd been no response. "Please...my name is Anna McGraw, I'm with the Raccoon City Police Department...I took out the infected out here," she explained.
There was no answer leaving Anna to assume the woman was probably dead. From the corner of her eye, she'd seen a small head pop up from behind the teacher's desk. A young boy, pale with brown hair and bright blue eyes had been staring back at her, terrified.
"Rich, there's a little boy in there!" she exclaimed, knocking some more.
"Can't you open the door? Or break the window and unlock it or something?" Rich asked, wanting to get the boy out of there quickly. Anna knocked on the glass and shook her head.
"It's too thick," she responded, looking back inside. "C'mon sweety, please open the door, we just want to get you and that woman out of here and to safety," she tried again. The boy glared at them, he was small, possibly around Kylie's age. He opened his mouth to say something when he'd suddenly turned to look at something else. Anna followed his eyes and noticed the body in the corner getting up. Something was off about it though.
It began to clumsily stagger between the row of tables when Anna began beating on the door. "OPEN THE DOOR! PLEASE, OPEN THE DOOR!" she cried out before taking some steps back and gently nudging Rich behind her. She'd taken aim at the door and started to shoot into it, but all the bullets did were break little holes into it and barely chipped into the glass.
She'd pressed her face back into the class, banging her fists into it and screaming for the child to open the door. There wasn't much else she or Rich could do.
The little boy had began to run around the desk, avoiding the infected that'd shuffled after, grabbing at him. He narrowly squeezed between two desks and dropped onto his hands and knees, crawling beneath a larger table. When he successfully made space between himself at the creature, he'd gone running upto the door, unlocking it and slamming his little hands into the bar, releasing the lock.
The door swung open, leaving Anna to grab at the door and pull the child out into her arms before slamming the door shut on the ghoul. It'd grunted and growled, pushing itself into the door and biting at the air.
The child began to whimper and cry into the redhead's shoulder, trembling violently as she'd softly rubbed his back. Staring at the corpse in the window, she'd barely heard the little boy sob out, "Mommy...mommy...."

Rich saw the whole event unfold before him and started ushering the group to move away from the room. It wasn't going to help any of them to dwell here. "Come on, we have to keep moving little man. This place isn't safe."
The little boy suddenly started to squirm in Anna's grasp, desperately trying to get out of her grip. "I won't leave my momma!"
Richard took a knee and tried to console the small child. "Come on now, we're gonna have to calm down, now what's your name?" he said as calmly as he could. The little boy rubbed at his eyes and shot a glare at him and up at Anna, untrusting of them.
"My momma says not to talk to strangers. I don't know you or her."
"Alright well I'm Richard Holden, and that lady there is officer Anna McGraw. She's a cop and she's trying to help me, you and anyone else she can find, right?"
Anna nodded, awkwardly. "Right...I'm gonna put you down now, but you have to promise not to run away. We don't know what else or who else is in the school and it's important that you stay with us, where it's safe, okay?" she asked the little boy, setting him down.
The little boy sniffled and continued to rub at his eyes. "James. My name is James Lawson."
"Alright James, we're gonna get you out of here, okay? That means leaving your mom behind, but it's okay, she'll be safe in that room over there, like you were right?" Rich said, stumbling around with his words. Trying to convince the boy to leave his mother made him feel like a douchebag, but they didn't really have any options.
Anna looked at Rich and then down at James, clearing her throat a little. "Your mom would want you to be safe and I'm a police officer. I'm the safest person here, right now," she said, smiling a little.
The little boy looked at the badge on Anna's uniform and up at her again. "Like...Kylie's daddy, right?" he asked.

Anna's eyes widened momentarily at the boy's mention of Kylie. She'd, without thinking, grabbed his shoulder and turned him around to face her.
"Kylie was here? Was her mommy and daddy with her too?" she asked. James shrugged his shoulders away from her and continued to frown, uncomfortable with the sudden physical outburst.
"Uh-huh. Her daddy had come to the door and Kylie was with her mommy. He was trying to get me and my momma to come with them..."
Madison had held James at her hip as the pair stood infront of the locked classroom door, from inside. An officer had been out in the hall, trying to convince them to leave with them, but Madison was too afraid to go back out in the streets with her five year old.
"Madison, please just open the door. We can get out of here together, just please open the door," Mrs. Robins pleaded, looking in through the glass, Kylie in her arms, pressing a small hand in the window.
"Mommy, Jimmy is gonna come with us, right?" she asked.
A hand placed itself on Mrs. Robins' shoulder, motioning her to move aside. A police officer stood in the window and said, "Madison, this is officer John Robins, with the RPD. I'm Katherine's husband and I'm here to help, but I can't do that if you don't open the door. Please, for your son's sake, open the door and we can get out of here!"
Madison shook her head and tucked her son behind her. "James will be safe. In here, with me...please just go. Katherine, I appreciate your help but I just want to wait here awhile, just incase," she told them.
Katherine's voice had chimed up, this time, almost angrily. "Wait for what?! You're really going to endanger your child further to wait for help that probably won't come? Atleast let James come with us, please Madison!"
"They had to leave then cause the monsters came out...I said bye to Kylie and she said bye back and then they were gone," he explained, fumbling with his hands a little nervously.

"Thanks for sharing that James, you were really helpful. Did either of Kylie's parents mention where they were going?" Rich asked, hoping he could clue them in to where they could go next.
The boy timidly shook his head leaving Anna standing above him, shoulder slumped. "Well...I guess we're back to square one. Maybe we should head back to the apartment," she told Rich, placing both her hands on the boy's shoulders.
"We should look around here first, there might be more survivors or something..." Rich mentioned, looking around the halls.
"There were alot of people hiding in the lunch room earlier but one of them had gotten mad at my mama and hit her and so Kylie's mommy and daddy and my mommy ran away from the fight," James mentioned.
"Alright thats good, you ready to move Anna?" Rich asked, wanting to make sure Anna wasn't still feeling the effects of killing those children.
"Yeah...yeah I'm ready, c'mon Jimmy," she said, motioning for the two to follow her.

Anna had been walking down the silent hall, trying to remember where the cafeteria was. That was one place she couldn't remember ever going to. As she blindly lead them through the school halls, Jimmy had taken a look at Rich and then at his arms.
"Howcome you got arrested, Richard? Why didn't Anna let you go when the monsters came?" he asked, almost disapprovingly. Anna, hadn't really paid much attention, she was busy trying to remember where to go next.
"Um, yeah... a bad guy got a hold of Anna's handcuffs and strapped on me, but before she could stop him he threw away the key. Its uh, kind of embarassing..." Rich said, trying to come up with a story that didn't instill the young boy with a distrust of cops.
"Oh...what happened to the bad guy then?" he asked.
"Oh well uh, well then he... got in a car accident. They've been happening all over town like crazy."
Jimmy nodded, listening intently when Anna had finally began to talk. "Alright, well....I'm lost. Jimmy do you know where the lunch room is?" she asked of him. Jimmy looked around at the walls, seeing the two bathrooms Mrs. Jackson took them to regularly.
"Umm...it's that door over there. The big ones. I remember cause I'm always at the end of the line cause Eric is always punching me in the arm and then getting me in trouble and stuff," he ranted on.
"Eric sounds like a little bastard..." Anna grumbled before frowning. Now was defintiely not the time to say something like that about a child that was potentially one of the little boys she'd put down earlier.
"I'm not hearing any pleasant chatter, or worried cries, if you catch my meaning," Rich said to Anna lowly.
"Alright, well, uh, okay then..." Anna trailed off. "Rich, Jimmy, stay right here. I'll go check it out, alright? Jimmy you stay close to Rich, got it?"
"Yes, ma'am," he said, nodding and standing beside Rich, worriedly. Anna proceeded to nod at Rich and summoned all the courage she possibly could before jogging down the hall and upto the double doors. Inside the door handles, barring it shut, had been a familiar shotgun.
'It looks like John's shotgun...' she thought to herself. She looked back up at the door, knowing full well now that there was a reason it was there. To hold something or someone in. Still, it was a shotgun and she'd be able to carry it with her incase Rich needed it later on.
She'd carefully pulled the weapon out from between the handles and as soon as she did, the doors had cracked open. Placing the shotgun firmly in her left hand, she'd pushed the doors further with her other, to reveal a corpse filled cafeteria.
Not too long after, those corpses began to get up. "s***..." she swore before turning around and bolting back toward the other two. It was only that small matter of time when the doors were pushed open and two of the infected slipped out, followed by two more and so on.
"Start bookin' it!" she yelled at the two, patting their backs as she did.

"Crrrrrrikey," Rich blurted out, avoiding cursing in front of the boy, even though it shouldn't have really registered at that point. Anna was moving them along from behind, but with her busy with that, there was only Jimmy left to guide them out of school. "Which way Jimmy?" he asked as they ran. "That way, hurry!" Jimmy cried out, running a little ahead of the two adults. Rich looked behind and saw Anna lagging. She'd been caught up in shooting at what appeared to be two of those inside out creatures, only tinier variations.
"Keep going!" Anna yelled over the gunfire.
Richard stopped and shouted over the bloody carnage, "Anna come on!"
Jimmy looked back to see what they were yelling about, not paying attention to what was ahead of them. Unfortunately that lead to his slipping on something squishy and tumbling down onto one of the children's corpses Anna had taken out earlier.
Rich turned, hearing the boy's grunting. "Dammit, Anna Jimmy's down, help him!" he shouted back at her before running ahead towards the boy.
Anna had finally caught up and reached down, grabbing at the boy's arm as he screamed at the bloody sight. "Jimmy, c'mon!" she cried out, looking back to see the horde moving in faster. The boy stumbled upto his feet and took off infront of the two again, leading them back toward the entry hall.
Anna stayed behind once again to try and slow down the encroaching horde. Neither of them had seen them move that fast since this whole thing started, it was like they were especially hungry for them.
Rich took off after Jimmy, when a door in front of him opened up, with Jimmy's mother falling through it. She groaned and reached out for the man as he stumbled and stepped around and past her. The man kept going, struggling to keep his balance with the floor being the mess that it was.
"I'm out of shells, I can't use my handgun either!" Anna yelled out.
"It's okay, the front doors are----AH!" Jimmy screamed, suddenly stopping in mid-sprint. The front doors were covered in infected. "They're everywhere, now, Anna! What do we do?!" the little boy cried out looking back at Rich and then at Anna.
"Uhh, there should be a parking lot near the back of the building. We can get out through there, can you take us there Jimmy?" Rich said as he scoped out the halls.
"Y-yeah!" the boy shouted, jittery.
"Theres a clear path, go on, we'll follow."

Jimmy ran down the path Rich mentioned, looking back every now and then to ensure they were following. Anna had kept her eyes forward, sprinting behind the two, every now and then she'd slow down long to keep from getting ahead of Rich. When they'd began to run passed the bathrooms, something lunged out from the Ladies room and grabbed Anna from behind, stretching it's mouth open wide and biting at her ponytail.
"Sh*t! Sh*t sh*t sh*t!" she screamed, struggling underneath it's weight and wriggling around to get it off. She'd ultimately spun around, staggering forward clumsily, trying to get it off her back.
Richard heard her screaming and stopped, turning to see her struggling, and stumbling towards the horde with a zombie at her back.
"Anna!" he ran towards her, and, doing the only thing he could do to help, slammed his head into the back of the zombie's skull. The back of the infected's skull had dented in and it fell backwards, it's teeth clamped down on Anna's ponytail, ripping a little chunk of hair off on it's way down.
"F*CKIN' EH!" Anna screamed, feeling the sudden tug at her scalp.
"You okay-F*CK!" Rich exclaimed, feeling something grab and constrict around his ankle. Looking down he saw a long tongue wrapped around his leg, tightening painfully. He tugged his leg back, but the monster the appendage belonged to pulled back, knocking Rich onto his back.
"Oof! Aaaah! F*ckin' help me!" he screamed out, wriggling fruitlessly. Anna looked back at the horde closing in on them before slamming her boot down on it's tongue, releasing it's grip on Rich and pulling the creature down in the process. Another inside out monster had been the culprit, but this one was compact.
Anna grimaced, grabbing at Rich's arm and pulling him upto his feet. "C'mon, c'mon!" she hurried him as the two took off running toward the end of the hall. It was then that Anna realized Jimmy wasn't around.
"Where'd that kid go?!" she yelled, anxiously.
