Samuel heard the gunshots coming from the back door to his side. While the leader of the group was still firing, he rounded the corner and waited for him to stop. He was going full auto, spraying the garage hoping to catch one of them in his flurry of rounds. Idiot.
Samuel heard the click of the weapon, and spun out from the side of the house. He advanced, catching the leader as he started to come out of the back door. With one shot, he caught him in the side, taking him to the ground. In desperation and speed that could only come from a man staring death in the face, the raider seemed to ignore the pain of the buckshot in his chest cavity and reached for a sidearm. Samuel was close enough that he was able to lash out with his leg, kicking the gun from the mans hand. As the two stared each other down, Samuel saw the blood gush freely and a wicked smirk crossed his lips.
“Sorry. Need the shells.” Samuel said lowly, easing the weapon from his shoulder as he watched the pool of blood grow under the man. The air in his lungs soon rattled, and he wheezed as he tried to keep breathing. With almost all of his blood on the ground, he soon passed out.
“One more down.” Samuel said as he keyed the radio. He snapped his weapon back to his shoulder and entered the house, going up the stairs and toward the left corner that Zoe had indicated housed the last of the raiders. When Samuel reached the door, saw the corpse of one of them, and saw the last one aiming out the window, he let another grin fill his features.
“Weapon down.” He said. Not surprisingly, the teenager was in a state of panic. He let go of his rifle, and it tumbled out the window to the ground below. He put his hands in the air, and Samuel keyed the walkie one more time, his right hand never leaving his weapon.
“Got the last one.” He said.

“Good. Bring him down to the back door.”
Zoe smiled grimly and stood up from her sniping spot. Cautiously, she approached the back door. Inside was the body of a man. He was dead. She still hadn’t decided what to do about that last one… should they kill him, should they let him go. If they didn’t give him a weapon, then they were as good as killing him.
As Zoe waited for Samuel to bring down the other marauder, who she assumed was alive since she heard no other shotgun blast and the man’s weapon fell out the window, she began to rummage around on the older man. She began to notice that he had better weapons than the others… he was probably the leader. She tossed the weapons on the couch and then found his phone. She was about to toss it with the rest of the stuff when it rang.
Zoe jumped out of surprise, and looked at it. The number said UNAVAILABLE and since she was curious by nature, she pushed the button, connecting the call.
“Jackson, have you gotten into the house yet?”
Zoe hitched and then spoke, adding some venom to her voice. “Jackson’s dead along with his band of stupid idiots. Who is this?”
There was silence at the other end for a moment and then the man spoke again. “Who is this?”
Zoe smiled and put a sweet tone in her voice. “I’m Zoe and Jackson and his group shot at me and I had to kill them all. Now I’m kindda busy, so I’ll be letting you go.” The next sentence out of the man’s mouth stopped her from hanging up.
“How would you like to make $1,000,000.00, Zoe?”
Zoe swallowed her breath and then nodded. Realizing that the voice couldn’t see her, she spoke. “Sure, who wouldn’t?” In her mind, she was running through scenarios of what she would have to do for one million dollars.
“Well, then I’ll give you Jackson’s contract. On the Jefferson Estate, there is a safe that has $2,000,000.00 in it. It is guarded by the latest security systems and other counter intrusion measures as well. You get the money and bring it to the docks. We will split it.”
Zoe asked the question that everyone would usually ask. “What is going to stop me from just taking all the money and cutting you out of the deal?” She looked around to see if Samuel was coming in hear all this.
The voice spoke again. “First you need codes to get past certain doors. I have those codes, but I will only give them to you when you get to each location. Between each door, there are other security measures, but I don’t know what they are.”
“Second, if you look at the screen, you’ll see why.”
Zoe looked at the screen and saw that the Jefferson Estate was being viewed from a low orbiting satellite. A red crosshair appeared over the house. “As you can see, I have ample means to destroy you right now. I could leave that entire block a 20 meter crater, but that house has something that I want and you can get it for me. You have 5 minutes to decide. I will call you back. Also, ask that big guy with you to help. I’m sure he can be useful in many ways.”
So he is watching us, thought Zoe. That means that if we try to run, he blows up the entire area. The phone clicked off and Zoe turned to find Samuel.

“Lets go.” Samuel said, walking over and roughly grabbing the teenager by the shoulder. His massive hand enveloping the kid’s bony frame, the vice grip of the giant’s hand almost taking the kid to the ground.
“You do anything, I shoot out your knees and leave you for the zombies.” He said. The kid didn’t say anything, but marched along with Samuel down the stairs and to the back door where the Zoe was going through the leader’s belongings. He saw her talking on the phone, or at least listening, before she hit end and hung up.
“More raiders?” Samuel asked.
“No man, we were all that was left.” The kid said.
“Shut up. Go sit down.” He said. The kid did so without another word. Smart kid.
“What’s the deal?” He asked, easing his shotgun down and crouching down to go through the leader’s stuff that she had already tossed on the ground. He found a half a pack of cigarettes and pocketed them. He didn’t think she’d mind, he was pretty sure she didn’t smoke.

Zoe gave Samuel a twisted smile and then glared over at the teen. He must have been the one with the Sniper rifle, since he was the only one left alive upstairs. She walked over to him, looking down on him where he sat.
“I don’t like being shot at”, she said. Out of nowhere her right hand flew out. Her open palm caught the teen on the side of the face. The whip like sound filled the room and the teen fell over and slammed into the ground. Zoe reared back and kicked him in the side of his thigh, about a foot above his kneecap. The teen’s leg cramped from the Charlie horse and he cried out. Zoe left him in the floor.
“Well, it seems that I’ve found out why they were shooting at us. It seems that they were on a mission to find something on the Estate.” She lifted the phone she took from Jackson.
“His name is Jackson and the guy he is working for thinks that there is $2,000,000.00 in cash here in a vault along with other valuables. He will give us passcodes and we split it with him. He also seems to have a satellite looking down at us and implied that it was armed with a missile. If we try to cut him out of the deal, he’ll level the surrounding area with us.”
“I told him I’d take the job. If you don’t want to be a part of it, I understand. I just couldn’t turn down that kind of money.”

“Who could turn down that kind of money?” Samuel said with a smirk. “Five hundred K each?” He asked, keeping an eye on her for a moment. If there was ever a moment to betray a person, this would be it. Especially with the confirmation that they didn’t have to worry about any more of the raiders that may just be too big a problem for them to handle on their own.
Samuel pulled out a cigarette and lit it with his Zippo, waiting for her response. He kept his eye on her. He didn’t think she would betray him. They’d been through a lot in the past few days. Such a short time, and yet they knew each other well. The ball was in her court, and Samuel hoped she didn’t try anything. Because he didn’t have any intention of dying today.

Zoe grinned and spit on her hand. Then she stuck it out for Samuel to shake.
"Five Hundred K sounds great. Deal."
With $500,000 in her pocket, Zoe could up her standard of living... or just buy something totally cool. Heck, she might even check into buy the Jeffereson Estate or one around it.
She looked at the young boy who was lying on the ground. "Should we just leave him here, or kill him?"

Samuel let out a smirk, spitting a small glob into his own hand and slapping it together with Zoe’s. She indicated the teenager, asking weather they should kill him or not. Samuel had an idea… With a quick wink to Zoe, he turned back to the kid.
“Hoe would you like to earn your life back?” Samuel asked. He had no real intentions of letting the kid go. If he did, he’d be back to his old ways before Zoe and Samuel were paid.
“You help us out with the same endeavor your boss was in, you walk away, scott free.” He said to the kid. He was counting on this system being dangerous. They let the kid take the risk, and he would either get killed, or they kill him when they were done. Samuel sure wouldn’t let him walk after this…
“You game?” He asked the kid. He only nodded.
“Call him back.” Samuel said to Zoe.

"He better be game... or he'll be dead." remarked Zoe. She hit the button on the side of the phone and it brought up the last numbers dialed. She selected the one at the top and dialed it back. It rang 3 times before that voice on the end spoke. She put it on speaker phone.
"So is the big man in?" it asked without a greeting.
"Yeah, we are both in." Zoe felt uncomfortable with how much the voice knew about them. "What's the first code?"
"Now now, you have to find the are first. I'd suggest the basement. Call back when you are there."
The phone clicked and went dead as the Voice hung up. Zoe looked over at Samuel. "Well, I guess we better start checking." She remembered the first time that they were in the house and how they had checked it out. At that time, they were looking for zombies... not money, but now they'd have to re-cover their trackes. Sliding her rifle over her shoulders, she took out her revolver and a knife. She went over to the teen on the ground and put the revolver up underneath his chin and pulled back the hammer.
"I would hold really still, if I were you." she said in a menacing voice. Then she sliced the cords that bound him and backed away. "One wrong move and I blow your midsection to hell."
As the teen looked away, Zoe gave Samuel a little wink. She really wasn't an evil person who would do such a thing... but the teen didn't know that.
"So where do we start? Do we trust the man on the phone and start in the basement, or do we start in the attic and work our way down?"

“Well… We never checked the basement when we cleared the house.” Samuel said. Personally, he had done a good sweep of the area. He was pretty sure he’d have seen something that was out of the ordinary. He hadn’t even seen a basement door, come to think of it…
“Lets do the basement.” He said. They made their way to the door that led to a set of steps, Samuel grabbing the teenager and putting him in front of Zoe and himself.
“Go on.” Samuel said, keeping a few steps behind him. Flicking the light on his shotgun on, he swept the area and looked for a light switch of some kind. When he did, he was pleased to see light explode into the area, illuminating it almost fully.
“See anything?” He asked her, looking around for something out of the ordinary. So far, he was only seeing boxes that were stacked on each other and labeled.

Zoe kept a close eye on the teen. She realized that she didn't even know his name, but she knew that she really didn't care. He would probably be dead before they left the basement... so why try get to know him.
While Samuel checked through some of the boxes, Zoe felt around the walls, trying to find a doorway. She found a stack of crates and thought that there might be something in there. She opened the first and found school papers and drawings. She smiled as she pulled out the top one and looked at it. A little girl had drawn it and it showed a happy family standing out front a big house. Sadly, she knew that the girl probably didn't have any happiness now... if she was alive.
"I don't see anything. This seems to be a wild goos..." Zoe cut off as she saw the papers began to float out of the crate and to the ground. Something had caught them. She put the paper on her hand and held it out flat. She slowly lowered it until a slight breeze caught the paper and blew it back towards the stairs.
"Samuel, I feel a breeze over here. I think there is a passage behind the wall. You, boy, get over here and help up look."
Zoe kept an eye, and her gun, on the teen and began to feel the walls, looking for an opening.

Samuel snapped his gaze toward Zoe, watching the paper fall to the ground. The breeze made it skitter along the floor, and he made his way over. Standing next to the kid with his revolver pointed at him as well, he started to push on bricks. When he saw dust fall, he holstered his revolver and pulled out his knife. Jamming it into the seam, he slowly pried a secret passage open.
“Inside.” He said to the kid, who began to slowly make his way into the room. It was dark inside, so Samuel pulled out his flashlight and began to shine it around.
“See anything?” He asked the kid.

The kid was quiet for a second, but then he spoke, his voice cracking from the stress.
"It goes down to a small room. It... whoa." exclaimed the kid. Zoe could hear the sound of tumbling and then it was quiet.
"You dead?", asked Zoe, hand on her revolver.
"Ouch, no, but that didn't feel good." The pain of following down the stairs temporarily overrode the teen's panic. His voice sounded irritated. "And if I'm going to be your dancing monkey, at least call me Mikey. It's my name."
"Okay... Mikey. What do you see?"
"Nothing. It's dark down here."
Zoe cautiously made her way into the secret opening and felt along the wall. It was rough stone, line the old streets of England. She found a recessed portion and felt for a switch.
CLICK.
The lights sprang to life in the room, temporarily blinding all of them until their eyes adjusted. Zoe saw what Mikey had fallen on. The stairs had a little landing that was just big enough for her to stand on. It was halfway down the stairs and it was what Mikey had tripped on. From there the stairs continued down to a room that was only 8 feet by 8 feet. On one wall, a large holding area had been erected for bottles and old wine bottles filled the openings.
"It looks to be an old wine cellar. Maybe there is another secret wall in here."

Samuel followed down the stairs, ducking down to avoid hitting his head on the ceiling. There was only about five feet of clearance for the stairs… Jerk offs and their f**king architecture… They got down to the cellar and he was able to stand up fully, looking around and pulling out a cigarette. He lit it and blew out a cloud of smoke toward one of the walls. He saw the smoke hit the wall and not move anywhere unnaturally, so he took another breath of it and started walking as he continued checking the walls.
He came to one of the shelves that held wine and pushed it over to the side, moving it to the side without much trouble and checking the wall behind it.
“Anything over there?” He asked, checking the wall with smoke.

Zoe was feeling around the other wall, she pressed on the wall and then stepped on stones on the floor. Nothing happened. She checked the seems in the wall, but she couldn't find anything.
"Damn, nothing here either." She turned and looked around. Then she looked back up the stairs. There were 6 steps and then the landing and then another 6 steps. She looked at it thoughtfully.
"Why would you have a landing with that many steps? And isn't the landing suppose to go somewhere?"
She moved up the stairs and came to a stop at the landing. Looking at the door, she put her hands on it. It felt weird. Real stone but...
"Mikey, get up here. Time to put your life on the line." She pulled out her revolver and aimed it at Mikey and then pulled out her phone. She didn't dial anyone just yet, but had it ready incase the needed a code.
"The walls feel cool, which they should because we are underground. But right here, it feels warm. There is something behind there."

“No s*** Sherlock, that’s what you’re here.” Samuel said, behind the kid as he waited for him to try and open it. Mikey felt along on the wall and looked for some way to open it. As he got rougher with it, Samuel observed some dust falling to the ground.
“Do that again.” He said quietly, watching the wall with his .44 in hand. Mikey pushed harder, and the wall gave a little bit. It started to swing, and it was soon big enough for him to get through. It was dark, again…
Handing off his flashlight to the kid, he waved for him to go inside. Mikey did, and now Samuel was just waiting to hear a scream of pain or something similar.
