Some of you may already be aware that our host; Proboards, has recently updated to version 5 of their forum/message board system. This hasn't taken affect on us just yet. However in a month's time RERPG will be forced into a version 5 update. This means that many changes have occurred, and here is a quick overview:
Sounds cool enough right? Well there is a downside. EVERYTHING about how v4 is setup is gone. The v5 system is entirely new and will force a few things on us that we will have to cope with and work around.
One of the biggest issues is the layout and theme of RERPG the gritty dark layouts from our various versions will be gone. I am currently trying my best to learn this new system and have something prepared for the update. Ive made a bit of headway but sadly I dont think the layout will be as much of a complete cover up of the PB's layout as our current themes are. But we will have options for you to pick from and a new theme to learn and take advantage of.
The next big issue we had was that the CBox will no longer work in v5. Instead there is an integrated ShoutBox that is linked to your login. Its a bit different but I think we will be able to adjust to it. In fact it automatically syncs to whatever theme you have selected for the site so unlike now if your using the old orange or red theme and the CBox is color matched to the new 5.0 theme they will match no matter theme you choose.
Along with the major site overhaul and the cool new features mentioned above there may be various other site updates that need to be put into effect such as taking advantage of the unlimited sub-boards, and tagging and notification features but we will keep you updated on those as any changes occur. Again we are still playing with v5 on a test board to see what it is capable of. But we are doing everything we can to make the transition as smooth and seamless as possible.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or thoughts you may post in This Q-n-A Thread. And if you have any experience with v5 and would like to contribute to our site as it makes this transition please PM myself or Joey and we will see what there is that you can do to help out.
