Polly stuck her head up after the explosion had alerted everything dead and hungry to their location. She saw Polly was alright, just a bit dazed if anything else. She had a ringing in her ears, and hoped it would fade soon. It reminded her almost of the earache she had when she was younger, except this didn't hurt as much as deafen her.
"KATYA! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!?! I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING!"
Jake appeared to be alright, and he was in luck, her lover had managed to save his boot. Walking around with one boot off would have slowed them down more than she thought they would be okay with. He needed to get his boot back on, and they needed to get moving before anything came back to investigate the sound.

Katya handed Jake his boot before going over to polly, "yes pet I'm alright. but now we have to be careful when moving."
taking out her knife, she handed it to polly. "stab the ground in front of you in an arch, that way we can most likely avoid any mines. please work efficiently and quickly, we'll cover you."

Polly nodded, and dropped to her hands and knees as she worked her way through the minefield, digging into the dirt with the knife as she quickly tried to plot a way through the deadly landscape. She didn't know how long they had before some of the walkers had come back, but she didn't want to be caught in the middle of a minefield when they did.

It took a while before they could see the horde, but by then the mine field had done most of their job for them. there was barely 100 zombies zombies left, and they were still tripping landmines, reducing their number further. but they were getting closer.
"polly, hows it coming?"

"It's coming. There are so many of them."
Polly didn't bother saying if she was talking about the landmines, or the undead that were going to be upon them in a few minutes. She was moving and marking mines, not even looking up to see how close they were to getting out of the minefield. She was focused on what she was doing, not letting the urge to panic and run overtake her survival sense. Katya had taught her at least that much, and it was a lesson she had taken to heart.
"I don't know how much farther, we can make it though!"

it was another few minutes when the horde, now reduced to about 40 reached them.
Katya was using her pistol in one hand and her kukri in the other to great effect, while Jake was using his AK47 with a bayonet.

"Okay we're through I think! Come on!"
Polly didn't want to use her pistol, since she wasn't a very good shot and they might need the ammunition later. She tucked her knife into her belt and waved the others through, not wanting to think about how many other dead people were going to be coming here, trying to find the source of the noise and potential food. She didn't want to be here when they shambled this way.

jake went first, gaining distance before coving Katya as she falled back.
when they were out of the minefield they ran, and kept running until they were about another kilometre away.

Polly huffed and puffed,her lungs feeling like they were on fire as she took a knee, her back giving her a spasm as she tried to get the wind back in her lungs. The new protective gear was not heavy, but she wasn't used to running long distances anymore due to her recent injury. Still, she was glad that they were all safe, and for the moment away from harm.
"I think we are good for right now. Anything else trying to kill us yet?"

Katya went up to polly and kissed her passionately, it was about a minute before she broke the kiss.

If Polly hadn't already been out of breath, she would have been after the embrace she had received from Katya. She had closed her eyes sometime during the kiss, and opened them to see her smiling face near her own. They had made it, amazingly they had made it through not only the largest horde she had ever seen, but through a minefield at the same time.
"I hope we don't run across anything more exciting. I'm looking forward to a relaxing trip if we can manage it."
She needed a meal and a rest, she had a feeling they all did. For the moment they needed to make sure they had a safe place to make camp, and since she didn't know anything about the area she left that decision up to her two traveling companions. They had been on this road before, so they would know where the good sleeping places were.

"Yeah. I wonder where all of them were going though. There isn't anything around here to attract so many of them, is there?"
Polly had never seen so many of the walking dead outside of a city before. Usually when there were so many it meant that there was something to attract them nearby. Katya hadn't mentioned a settlement or even a trade hub, so there was no reason for them to be so numerous so far out.
"Maybe the sound of the mines kept drawing them in? Might be something to check out on our way back."
She shouldered her bag, made a few adjustments to her bite-proof armor, and began following the two adventurers. They weren't going to get any closer to Katya's former home by sitting around, that was for sure.

they didn't have any further incidents for the next 5 days, when they stopped for the night at a settlement.
they were at the bar when the doors slammed open, showing several men coming in.
"JAKE!! I KNOW YOUR IN HERE YOU BASTARD!!"
Katya lifted an eyebrow to Jake. "what did you do this time?"
the man answered her question when he saw them. "YOU BASTARD! YOU KNOCK ME OUT AND THEN TAKE MY GIRL AND GET HER PREGNANT, AND DARE TO SHOW YOUR FACE HERE AGAIN!!!!"
Katya looked over at the guy. "would you shut up, your starting to give me a headache dips***."

"You two don't know any normal people, do you?"
Polly kept to the left of Katya, making sure she wasn't in the way of either of her companions. She didn't make any sudden moves, but she made sure that her right hand moved towards the pistol at her lower back, ready to fire in case everything went bad. With her two companions she could almost guarantee it would.
"Alright, let's not do anything we're going to regret. I'm sure we don't have to do anything rash."
