Jeremy had sat for a short while, after Dupois had killed the licker that had gone after them both. Knowing that he didn't have long before more ghouls arrived, Jeremy rose, holstering his gun. Now, where can I go that's safe for me? "That's it!" he whispered, "the super center. There's probably some supplies left there. It'll give me a chance to rest and get my thoughts together on where to go from here." He immediately left the building via the stairs, exiting out onto the street and making his way towards the store.
*Jeremy is now at City Center, Shopright Super Center*

Kalonov, Mickey, and Colleen pull up to the Apartment complex. Kal noticed that Von had split, or killed by zombies. He saw blood splattered on the window, and the bodies of people that had either jumped or been pushed to their death. "So, this is your place? Nice. Please tell me your room is still safe."

Mickey's body stiffened as she stared in horror at the bodies on the ground. Many people she knew. On the ground lay Mrs. Pinkler, who recently got divorced. Nearby her lay the Simon siblings Damon and Lynn and their baby sister Sarah. The body of grouchy old Mr. Wappler lay on the handles to the stairs of the outside, his spine clearly broken from the fall.
Mickey went to cover up Chelsea's eyes, but found it to be unnecessary. The baby had fallen asleep on the ride over while still clutching the little bunny. It was a real relief to Mickey. She didn't want to give the baby nightmares, even if she wouldn't remember what she'd seen.
She climbed off of the motorcycle as soon as it stopped and shrugged at Kal. "The room should be safe. The windows are new and my roommate's boyfriend put a special lock on the door after our apartment was broken into a few months ago. The only way to get inside is by a key and the door can't be broken down."
She looked at the open front door to the complex and hoped that her roommate was okay. "My apartment is room 620. We should hurry if we need to get there safely." Mickey announced to Kal and Colleen.

After taking several moments to take stock of the building, and then checking her weapons once more, Colleen took a breath and said, "It's got power, and possibly running water... things we'll need. I still say we should get you both to the airport and out of here, and I'm commited to doing so if you want... but until then..." Turning off the engine on the bike, and the headlight, but leaving the brake off, she began walking it towards the back.
"Okay... I want you two to listen to me and follow what I say. Mickey... swap the baby to your back. You're going up first. You know the tenants here better than we do, so you won't accidentally shoot someone. Kalonov... you and the dog next... I'll bring up the rear." She finished with a sense of clarity, "Guns out and eyes up, both of you. Just because it looks safe is no guarantee. The files I've read on the BOWs that the virus can generate shows that zombies are the least of the things we'd need to deal with. I'm not telling you this to scare you. I want you to be aware of little things. If something feels out of place, don't hesitate."
That being said, she gripped the handlebar tight with one hand, and drew out her phone, checking the power, and then the signal. Minimal, local call only by the level it was reading. Putting it back away, she tried swapping her comm gear over to a police channel, but nothing but static came back. Both hands going back to the bike, she panned the lot, and then waited for the other to push their way inside.

Mickey nodded and carefully moved Chelsea to her back. Chelsea moved a little but then adjusted to the new position and continued sleeping. As a precaution, in case there were zombies in the hall, Mickey reached into the diaper bag and pulled out the knife. It was the closest thing to the top or she would have taken the gun.
"Just follow me." Mickey said softly as to not wake up the child or bring attention to herself and the others.
Mickey walked inside. Instantly, the strong smell of blood and decomposition hit her nose. There were definetely zombies in here. No human would have a large amount of decomposition if they recently died naturally. Mickey headed for the stairs. The second she put a hand onto the railing, a decomposing body fell from the upper floors onto the ground next to her. The body startled her, but the head smashed open when it fell onto the ground so chances were it wasn't going to come back.
Mickey took a few steps when she came face-to-face with a gun. "You get back down there. I'm not having any more of you...you...things in here." a screechy voice shouted.
Mickey looked up at owner of the screechy voice, a sort of chunky woman with messy hair. "Mrs. Goebel, it's me Mickey Leona. You know the medical student from the floor above you." Mickey said to the woman.
The chunky woman shook her head and shouted, "I don't believe you!"
"It's true. I came to your aid last month when you were having that heart attack. Don't you remember?" Mickey tried again to convince the woman that she was okay, "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just trying to get to my apartment."
Mrs. Goebel's shouts turned to screams, "You get back to where you were. I'm not letting anyone get up here!" For her own safety, Mickey began to back up a few stairs. Mrs. Goebel's rants continued, "You medical types are all the same. When you get lazy, you allow these things to happen. I hope you all rot in Hell!"
Barely half a second after the end of the rant, a long sticky rope-like thing...a tongue, wrapped itself around the throat of the gun wielding Mrs. Goebel and pulled her up to the ceiling. The woman seemed to struggle for a few seconds until POP! her head was separated from her body. The body and head fell onto the stairs, the body at the top and the head bouncing off the stairs passed Mickey's feet. There was a little fountain of blood coming from where the head used to be.
Mickey looked up at the ceiling and saw the creature with the long tongue and stared back at the body of Mrs. Goebel. She then did the first thing that came to her mind. She screamed.

Before she could scream too long, Kal quickly covered her mouth. "Mickey, I know how you feel, but you can't scream," Kal whispered into her ear. "It will notice we are here. They have a horrible sense of sight and hearing, but they can hear screaming. Fang and Chelsea will freak if one of us screams. Listen, I'm gonna sneak up there and kill it, but don't make a sound." Kal slowly and quietly snuck up the stairs, as the creature dropped down. He figured that it wouldn't draw others from it's own sound, and the blood in the apartment would be nothing new to the dead residents. As he approached, the creature smelled him, but he quickly chopped at the exposed brain with his knife and lowered it onto the ground. He gestured for the others, after seeing that it was all clear.

Frowning hard at Kal for his actions, Colleen reached into her pocket and pulled out one of those little pocket packs of kleenex, and moved up, blotting off a spot of blood that had gotten on Mickey's face, then checked her eyes. Shooting a look at Kalonov, she scowled and shook her head before saying to her, "You're allright... shh... everything will be fine. She didn't know that creature was there, and neither did you. Even if you had, you might not have had time to save her before it either killed or infected her."
Reaching up with one gloved hand, the older woman stroked the younger woman's hair back and then wadded the piece and dropped it, pressing the rest of the pack into her hands, "That was something an agent in our organization nicknamed a Licker. They can walk on ceilings and walls, digging into them with the long claws on their arms and legs, and use their tongue to snare prey. But we're not going to be prey... Mickey, I promise you..."
Moving back down to secure her bike from where she had wedged it, she kicked off the brake and then looked flatly at Kalonov, "Once we get to a place where we can hole you, you have a hell of a lot of explaining to do. Like first off... where you learned about the specifics of that BOW type... and also why you're so bats*** crazy as to sneak up and stab it like that. But for now... MOVE."
The entire time her voice was low and even, gentle and warm for the girl, but with a much sterner edge for the well-armed young man and his dog.

Mickey felt a feeling of relief when both Kal and Colleen went to calm her down. She was most definetely feeling better. She moved her free hand around the back to feel the chest of the child. Her chest was moving softly, allowing the child to give out little breaths of sleep. Chelsea never even woke up.
"Follow me." Mickey said as bravely as she could, "My apartment is nearby." Without saying anything else, she began to climb the stairs up to the sixth floor. She looked around and saw no more of the lickers.
Apartment 620 was only a few doors to the left of the stairs so it wasn't a long walk and if there were any zombies around, they were at the far end of the hall where they wouldn't be a real threat for a while.
When Mickey got to the apartment door, she began to dig around in her pockets. Then she let out a groan. She forgot her apartment key inside the building. She tried to open the door, but it was locked up. This didn't bother her too much. After Mickey and her roommate fixed the door, they promised themselves that no matter what, they would lock the door when they left the house.
Mickey placed her ear against the door. No sound was heard from inside. Then Mickey knocked on the door loudly three times. No answer came. She knocked again. No answer. She tried calling for her roommate, "Allyson! Are you there?" Still no help came.
Then Mickey saw something gold on the floor. She picked up the item and found it to be a gold key with the number "620" on it. It was the apartment key. Only three copies of the key were made and they belonged to Mickey, Allyson, and the landlord of the apartment complex. It was either Allyson or the landlord that came by and dropped the key.
Without questioning who left the key, Mickey placed the key into the keyhole and turned the knob. The door opened. Mickey carefully place her head into the apartment and looked around. It was clean. In fact, it looked like it did when she left for work. Nothing smelled wrong and no moaning was coming from inside.
"Hurry. It should be safe in here." she whispered to Colleen and Kal.

Kal realized that his quick thinking hadn't lived up to the army woman's expectations. "Cougar, I did what I thought was safest. If it wasn't killed quickly and quietly, we would have been swarmed by those things. Also, its not too hard to figure out that they're hard of hearing and sight. I figured out that on my first trip to the general store. I look for weaknesses so I can more easily defeat creatures. I have a notebook. I didn't know that they could climb on walls and ceilings though." Kal sat down on a couch, and gave Fangren a treat for being quiet.

Back again? Well this was exceedingly ironic. What he found even more ironic was that he was doing the same job, looking for information. Yet this time in a apartment complex? Pete doubted highly that scientists kept documents of that caliber in their bedroom wardrobe. But orders were orders. He started to move toward the complex when he heard a scream emanate from the building. His personality instinctively told him to charge in there and try to help. However past experience told him otherwise. Slowly and carefully he approached the building, stopping just short of the doors. Grip tightening around the weapon he thumbed the flashlight on the barrel. Covering up the beam with his left hand he counted.
"Three...two...one" he whispered to himself as he gently pushed the door with his foot.
Releasing his hand from it's position in front of the beam he stepped into the lobby. Ouch, that stank, the smell of decomposition reached his nostrils. Doing his best to ignore it he took a step forward. The beam of light from his tac-light moved across the floor and then to the wall. Moving his rifle round, the beam followed. He panned it across the roof for a moment, he remembered that little horror story. Doing his best to move carefully he advanced through the hall. If that scream had come from in here then what had... He stopped dead and the weapon was hurriedly snapped in the direction of his find. It looked like one of those Lickers or whatever they where called. Massive tongues, crawled on walls and generally weren't pleasant. Advancing closer the torch light showed that it was dead? Approaching, his weapon still raised and with safety off he gave it a small tap with his boot. It seemed dead enough, but just to be sure he took a step back. That wasn't the only thing his eyes landed on a corpse, the head had been completely smashed apart. Was that the source of the scream? A quick investigation of smell soon sorted that out, no they'd been dead for a long time. That left him with a possibility, that whoever had screamed had either, found this Licker dead and it had startled them. Or more worryingly, they had killed it which meant that there might be more.
"Right" he muttered, casting his gaze to the stairs. Raising his weapon again he started up them, stepping quietly as to avoid any unwanted and undead company. Upon moving further up he was greeted by another body, this one female and missing a head. He clicked his tongue and cast a glance at the roof with his light. This one looked fresh as horrible as it sounded. So that changed his theory slightly, was this the source of the scream? Had there been a second Licker? He breathed out heavily, seemed like this place held a few more surprises than he'd originally given it credit for. He raised his vision again and looked up the stairs. What was that twenty five floors? Well, it seemed like the right idea to start from the top.
"Onwards and upwards" he muttered again as he started to ascend, his tac light beam leading the way.

Colleen remained quiet as she moved from room to room, doing a quick sweep in case anyone who had been infected and died was standing in their last moments still. Especially the bathrooms. Returning to the main living room, she said to the others, "Looks like your room-mate packed quick and took off. Most likely she was the one who dropped the key on her way out... either in the rush of locking it, or thinking she might not need it anymore. Her room is pretty well tossed, mostly clothes on the bed, and some things from the closet. And the biggest knife from the kitchen is missing."
Finally settling on the bed, she looked towards Kal, and then took a breath, "Kal... you need to stop taking so many risks and consider your options better. I did not know you'd dealt with this before. You look too young to have truly understood the previous outbreak that came through Raccoon City. Me? I was in the Air Force at the time... no one had really heard of Raccoon City, or any of the viral terrorism weapons we're seeing now."
She paused, "Anyways... you took a needless risk. If you had been wrong, it would have been in position to hurt you badly. You could have used the crossbow to make the same shot as the knife. You also have to consider... if they can't see or hear, what other senses they might have. Post-Infected and BOWs seem to have some kind of thermal sense... which is why when not even facing you, if you get too close, they'll turn and attack. Also why they tend towards places where we create heat."
Moving towards the kitchen, Cougar finally said over her shoulder, "We sleep in shifts. Each of us takes three hours. I'll take the middle, Kal takes the first, and Mickey takes the last. This way we all get a solid six until daylight. And then from there we can figure out where you two need to be."

Mickey listened to what Colleen said about Allyson. It was good that Allyson was likely safe, but she also worked and her boyfriend was a cop. Allyson likely went to stay at his house for a while like she did before the outbreak and got attacked on the way. At least the apartment was clean and would be competely safe if the door was closed and locked.
Suddenly, Mickey had a feeling that somebody was outside of her apartment, a normal person, not crazy like the decapitated Mrs. Goebel. The person needed help, at least for a little while. She could feel it.
Mickey removed the sleeping infant on her back and placed her into Colleen's arms. "Please hold her for a moment. I think somebody outside needs some help." Mickey said softly. She placed the room key in her pocket and removed the handgun from the diaper bag before leaving it next to Kal. Then, she walked out the front door and closed it behind her.
Mickey headed to the stair case and began to look up then down. No monsters were up the stair case, but she saw a bright light coming from down the stair case. A human. She headed down and found a young man, possibly a little older than she. He looked well enough and showed no signs of turning into one of the monsters roaming the city.
"Sir," she said softly as to not draw more attention to herself, "It's not safe out here in the halls."

He'd ascended a small way, he was roughly on about the fifth floor now. As he'd been doing with each floor as he reached the landing he sent the torch beam down it, searching for anything that moved. Nothing again...moving on upwards he stepped quietly, however his boots still seemed to make enough noise to wake the dead... Bad joke, he thought to himself as he proceeded onward.
Stepping up, he got ready to make his way to the sixth floor when he heard a voice. It was close, he sent the torch beam upwards. It could have been a voice or a moan...that said it could be something much worse. The beam found a figure and Pete felt himself relax the grip on the gun slightly but he didn't lower the rifle at first. It was a young woman, she was clutching a pistol in her hand and looking down the remaining steps at him. She wasn't pointing the weapon at him so he lowered his own, not wanting to create an awkward situation.
She mentioned about it not being safe out in the halls as he walked up the steps to her. It had amazed him that four years ago people were still about in this place. But now? He had to admit it astounded him that anyone was actually left. "Are you alone here miss?" he asked quite amazed that somebody was still here.

"Cougar, I'm not leaving. I have a living family here, and my sister is out there battling too. I'm not leaving until every zombie is dead and every person is safe. Say whatever you want, but you really have no right to tell me what to do in this situation. I don't really think that your military position means anything to the zombies, and it doesn't mean anything to me. My age never meant anything to my siblings except for the number of birthday punches, and I learned to live with it. Same goes for you. Deal with it."
Kal overheard Mickey talking to someone outside. He walked over to the door, and looked out, just in time to hear the man's question. "Yeah... that would be a no. There are five of us here: Her, myself, a military lady, a baby, and my dog. Don't worry, the nobody here but the dog bites." Kal beckoned for the man to come up.

Colleen mumbled under her breath as she watched Kal in the doorway, "Could have fooled me..." Shaking her head as she moved to the kitchen table, and proceeded to bring out all of her electronic hardware.
The cellphones she'd collected earlier along with her own phone and laptop were all low on charge, so she got them into wall-plugs and began quick-charging them from the building's available power. Then came her comm unit, nightvision binoculars, plugged into a seperate outlet.
Watching the door for several more moments, she just sighed to herself and pried an MRE from her pack and one of the bottles of water she'd purloined from the store, and drew up a quick meal from it. At the same time she opened up her laptop, and checked...
'Wireless access... interesting. Secured wireless routers off a T-1 hardline from the building.' She thought to herself, and began to run a hacking script to pull to access key and load it to her system. A small tone came from the machine, and she nodded, 'Well... at least it saves me having to rack up the minutes on BSAA's credit.'
Setting one of her pistols on the tabletop for quick access, she logged into the BSAA server.
Blackkat42: Checking in. BSAA0047: Coll! You dropped off the grid after hitting RC. sup? Blackkat42: Cell towers are off-line. local call only. BSAA0047: Toldja to take one of the satphones. Blackkat42: Rub it in a lil, jack***. Problem. BSAA0047: ? Blackkat42: Mission delayed. Civilians in jeopardy. May as well scrub for now. BOWs are wild in the city. No way I can get close to that station without a strike team. BSAA0047: Affirmative. Can you evac? Blackkat42: Civvies may not want to leave. Supply C130s come to the airport station on 12 hour intervals. Medical exam of anyone before leaving. Pretty thorough. SOS orders on anyone attempting to leave hot zone. BSAA0047: Walk in the park. Blackkat42: Bite me. BSAA0047: Promise? Blackkat42: Hey. I'm DLing 3 sim cards to you. Run their numbers and add them to my cell lines for access. They're PTTs with GPS tracking and the usual goodies. Synch them with the comm gear. BSAA0047: Will do.
Logging out of the chat server, Colleen went to work getting the phones she'd taken from the Pawn Shop set up to work within her wireless network, to give Mickey and Kal some ability to communicate with the world, and with each other.
