Jake drew his attention away from the windows. As it happened most of the windows were boarded up so he didn't have to worry about the undead outside catching sight of them. The BOW's were another thing, but he didn't see any evidence of them out there. He watched as Joseph began to look around for supplies.
The growling in his stomach let him know that he had neglected one of his more primal needs. Jake went over to the HumVee and opened the back of it. pulling out a box of rations and protien bars. It wasn't a 4 course meal at the Ritz-Carlton, but it was better than starving.
Pulling out a few cans, he saw that they had beef stew, canned meat, some mixed vegetables fruit. Then he pulled out a little propane stove and turned it on. Grabbing a pot and a griddle, he set up his little kitchen.
First he opened the can of stew and poured it into the pot. to that he added the can of mixed vegetables and a bottle of water, creating enough for all 3 of them. In the griddle, he put the canned meat, cutting it into slices. The meal wouldn't be the greatest, but it would be nutrition and taste better than eating their shoes.
As the food cooked, he grabbed a six pack of beer from the back of his ride and opened on. He set the rest down on a table and looked after the food.
::EDIT 08/01/2011::
The food was finally finished cooking. Jake grabbed himself a bowl of the food and another beer and sat down on the workbench behind his HumVee.
"Hey, come and get it Joe and Garfield." He called out and into the radio. So far nothing had attacked them and he couldn't hear anything outside. He took a bite of the stew. It was warm and delicious... better than those MRE's that he had been putting away every day. This was like sitting down at a 5 star restaurant.
As he ate, he began to think about what they should do tomorrow. The HumVee was filled up, but they could top off the gas cans. That would give them enough to get to Washington and deal with that Damn Colonel.
But in the back of his mind, he didn't know if he wanted to kill him anymore. He mainly just wanted to see Collins again.

((sorry for the wait))
Joseph continued searching around the garage. Unfortunately there was nothing. Whoever was here before must have taken everything with useful with them.
"Well this sucks," he told himself before hearing Jake talk on the radio.
Joseph nodded to himself. He was a bit hungry but his nervousness was covering up all his hunger. He still didn't know what was following them or if it still was and if it still was who knows how dangerous it could be.
Joseph though finally got up and exited the garage. He looked around until he finally saw Jake. He looked at the food Jake had made.
"Yum so let me guess canned food," Joseph said in a joking manner for it was ther most common food at this point and time.

{{ooc - No problem... and we will probably be continuing on without MR. Sandman. He hasn't checked in for almost a month}}
Jake laughed. "Well it's not JUST canned food, but also canned drink."
He pointed to the little stove with the stew and the meat and the beer sitting on the bench beside it. As far as meals go, it was hot, tasted better than a MRE and plenty of it. Plus the beer made everything better. Between bites, he asked.
"So did you find anything over there that could be useful?"

(yup that's were my confusion started)
Joseph listened to Jake's response then looked over above the cooked can food. He chuckled slightly before grabbing an empty can to use as a bowl and he scooped up some of the food. He grabbed a single beer before sitting down.
"Yes as we all know the best way to kill zombies is when your intoxicated," Joseph said popping open the beer and taking a sip of it, "but lucky for us there are still no zombies."
Joseph took another sip from his beer before eating some of his food. It was still quiet outside. Well that's good, Joseph thought to himself.

Jake finished off his meal, downing the last few bites of beef strips and then downed the rest of his beer. He put the bottle in the trash can and then took his dish over to a post that had simmering water in it. He dipped it down in there and scouped up some water and whisked it around. Then he wiped it off with a towel. He only had so many utensils left and if he didn't clean them, then they would become cruded up with bacteria.
"Except for the gas, I wasn't able to find anything of use here, were you?" he asked Joe. He expected Joe to say no, considering that he hadn't come back with anything.
"So tomorrow we leave here in the morning and we make it into Washington before nightfall. If we don't encounter any more of those creatures, we should do okay."
He pointed in the direction of the truck. "We can sleep in the truck, lock it up tight. I'll take the front seat and you can take the backseat. If you feel to uncomfortable in there, then I do have some hammocks that you can string up in the garage."

Joseph finished up the last of his meal. It was alright seeing as how it was canned food but still, It was no where near as good as non-canned food. Joseph threw the can he used as a bowl against the wall now that he was done with his food. He twisted his neck slightly causing it to crack. He finished up the rest of his bear and then, he threw that against the wall also now that he was done with it.
Joseph straightened as he heard Jake start to talk. Had Joseph found anything while searching..., If you count dust as something useful then yes he did.
"No nothing nada," Joseph said sitting down to listen to Jake speak again.
Hm sleeping in a truck that will be fun. Hopefully the car won't feel like a fridge in the middle of winter in Antarctica.
"Thanks," Joseph said getting up, "I'll meet ya in there."
Joseph ran off back to wards the van. He opened the door of the van. Luckily it wasn't freezing cold like he thought.
"Well," Joseph said climbing back into the van shutting the door behind him then laying down on the backseat.

{OOC – Moving on to avoid any type of “Brokeback Mountain” Scene}
As Joe went to bed, Jake felt a wave of tiredness wash over him. He opened the door to the front of the HumVee and arranged his guns on the floor, but in a way that he could access them quickly. Grabbing a blanket and pillow from the back, he crawled into the front and shut the door behind him, locking the HumVee up. As he fell asleep, he thought he could hear clicking sounds. Sitting up, he didn’t see anything and fell right back to sleep.
As he slept, his dreams were filled with the four legged BOW that they encountered outside of Chicago. They were eating Lt. Collins, his current flame back at Fort Belvoir. The Colonel was laughing and eating pieces of her body that were being flung about. Her screams pierced his ears. Then they all turned on him…
Jake sat up quickly, his t-shirt drenched in sweat. He looked around and saw that he was in his trunk. I must calm down, I must calm down, he told himself over and over again. Soon, his breathing was under control and he felt almost normal again.
That’s when he looked out the window!
At first, he thought it was still dark, but his watch said 7:30 am. The sun should be up by now. Then he looked closer. The window was a hive of activity, mostly brown and grey punctuated with milkly blue dots. He realized what they were and what that sound was that he heard last night.
Hundreds of infected rats. The food they cooked, must had drawn them here and they had just climbed in to the HumVee, which seals itself for chemical attacks before they arrived. Now, they filled up the garage, and were massing on the HumVee, looking for a meal.
Jake slowly leaned over and shook Joe. He kept a hand on him until he woke up.
“Don’t make any sound. We are surrounded by a thousand infected rats. One major movement or sound and they’ll swarm.”
Inside, Jake was trying to remember what was left outside. Their food and one of the propane stoves were out there and a few bottles of water. Most of the critical supplies were still in the HumVee. Once they started the truck, the rats would swarm. They’d have a few seconds to burst out of here before they rats went after the tires. At that point, they were sunk.
“As soon as I start the engine, I’m gunning it for the garage door. There will be a little jar as we hit it, so buckle up.”

((yay time to leave Garfeild now XD))
Joseph fell asleep relatively quickly and he was a heavy sleeper so when Jake came in he didn't wake up. His sleep was as peaceful as you can get inside a car until he woke up to Jake shaking him.
Joseph shook his head infected rats. Well this day was getting funner by every second. First zombies, then monster thing, and now rats. Yay for karma.
Joseph thought for a moment as Jake spoke. Hitting a garage door that will be fun and how can rats penetrate the car anyways. Oh well he took Jake's advice and quietly buckled up.
This will get bumpy but at least the monster wasn't here that was a plus what about Garfeild upstairs though. Oh well as one man once said every man for himself. Joseph wondered how Garfeild would fare without Jake and himself.

Jake fired up the HumVee and hit the gas. Almost immediately, the rats screeched and threw themselves at the truck. Most of them rammed against the armored hull, only to bounce off, and attack again. The HumVee slid sideways as it tried to manuever across a moving road of rodents.
He punched it forward and was rewarded by watching a spray of blood and bones hit the wall behind them. Finally, the HumVee caught some traction and took off. Jake tensed as the HumVee ripped through the garage door and out into the street. The rats followed after them, filling up the road behind them. He was finally able to use the wipers to clear the blood and muck off the front windows, but he could hear them still scratching and screeching. With a feeling of dread, he realized that every undead thing in Chicago could probably hear them and where headed this way.

(sorry for the wait)
Joseph yawned as the HumVee crushed the zombie rats and smashed through the garage doors. Well today was already getting exciting. Joseph only wondered what the rest of the day would hold in store for him. Seeing Joseph's luck a meteor would fall on the HumVee.
Joseph placed his hands behind his heas. Where was Chicago anyways. Joseph just couldn't really remeber it was more east he knew that much. He let out another yawn again before fiddling with his gun. Oh how the little things could be interesting in a zombie apocolypse.
"So where to next?" Joseph then asked looking at Jake.
Where were they going next. Hopefully to a less zombie infested area. Who really does like zombies? Maybe a zombologist at most, but most likley no one.

Jake happened a glance over at Joe. He laughed a bit at the non-chalant attitude of his passenger.
"Well, I hear that Chicago Style Pizza is the best, so maybe we can stop and grab a slice, or go catch a Cubs game... Speaking of which, I think that is a real Chicago Bears player."
Jake pointed off to the side of the road at another zombie shambling towards them. It had on a full Bears uniform, including helmet and the jersey number was 23.
Jake looked over at Joe and laughed. "Wasn't that Devin Hester? I thought he was supposed to be fast. I guess I better drop him from my fantasy team."
"As for where we are going, This road will skirt the downtown area that should get us back to the highway. We have enough gas and food to make it to DC."
"If we don't get hit by anymore BOWs."

Joseph listened as Jake spoke. So Chicago. Sounded like a decent enough plan. Joseph looked out of the car window to see the man Jake was pointing out. Joseph was never a real big sports watcher but the man looked like he could be a baseball player.
"Yeah... that's him," Joseph said though trying to pretend he knew about the player.
Joseph looked away from the window to listen as Jake continued to speak. D.C., Joseph almost forgot that's were Jake wanted to go to begin with. But, also like Jake said hopefully they wouldn't hit those B.O.W.s. That one was truly nasty and Jake said he was a B.O.W. Joseph wondered what he looks like in his monster form.

Jake continued to drive in silence down Lake Side Drive. They were nearly the Loop Area of Chicago, if the signs he saw was correct. He didn't know what that meant, but guessed that it was section of the town that was set on the loop that circled Chicago. He was going to avoid going into the downtown area but as he came over the top of the bridge, two things changed his mind.
The first was that the road was completely blocked by abandoned cars. Even with the offroad capabilities of the HumVee, he wouldn't be able to get around it.
The second was the fact that a horde of zombies were surrounding all the cars. Jake couldn't count them, they were so many. Behind the HumVee, a ways away still, more undead moved toward them.
"Hang on." was all that he said, as he slammed the accelerator down and pulled the wheel to the right. The HumVee jumped the curb and soon they were rolling down the embankment toward the lower street. He noticed that it was Michigan Ave... which meant absolutely nothing to him except that they were heading into the downtown area.
Three block later, they ran into.. an over another group of zombies. Everywhere they turned, more zombies were closing in on their car.
Finally, at the end of other blocked street, Jake pulled over and shut off the car. They were right in from the Blackstone Hotel. It looked abandoned. Jake began to grab his gear and weapons.
"We better hide out. Come on."
Jake opened the door. Already he could hear the moan of the undead as they shambled in their direction. He went to the alley beside the hotel and pulled down on the exterior emergency exit. He climbed halfway up and tossed his bags onto the landing. Then he grabbed his rifle and pointed it down the alley to cover Joe until he arrived. Once they were both up on the landing, he pulled the ladder back and kicked in one of the windows.
As the moans were getting louder, he ducked into the Blackstone.
[Joe and Jake leave Lake Side Drive and enter Blackstone Hotel]

Joseph yawned as the Humvee continued down Lake Side Drive. After a little while of driving Joseph looked ahead. That was a bunch of zombies and a bunch of abandoned cars. Most people would say F me about now, but Joseph didn't. More or less he said, "Well things could be better."
Joseph noticed Jake said "Hold on." Joseph didn't heed those words and in next moment he was flung across the car. He rubbed his head thinking how he should have listened to Jake's words.
Joseph then felt the car bump a lot and when he looked out the back window he saw many dead zombies laying on the ground. Well, that is one way to disable multiple zombies. Then in the next few moments the car was stopped again. Joseph looked out to see more zombies coming to wards the car. After Jake had grabbed his weapons and gear, Joseph did the same and followed Jake out of the car.
Jake was already way ahead of Joseph and zombies were closing in on them. Joseph started to run to wards the emergency ladder that Jake had climbed , but next thing he knew a zombie came out right next to him. Before the zombie could bite though a bullet from Jake's rifle penetrated the zombie's skull. That was too close, Joseph thought to himself.
Joseph climbed up the emergency ladder and into the hotel. Once inside the hotel Joseph took out his flashlight and turned it on. He noted where Jake was as he slowly crept more into the room. So far no zombies in this room, but there was still a closet and bathroom in this room.
"Jake you hear that," Joseph said in a very quiet voice, listening to a thumping noise coming straight from the closed bathroom.
Joseph slowly walked over to the bathroom door, as he pulled out his gun. Joseph motioned for Jake to come. Joseph grabbed the door nob and slowly twisted it and opened the door only a little. He then let go and pointed both his gun and flashlight at the now cracked door. He nodded at Jake to get ready. Then slowly, he opened the door with his leg.
In the corner of the room there were two zombies both eating what looked like a dog. Joseph's eyes widened. He hoped Jake was pointing his gun at the zombies. The, One of the zombies turned and noticed Joseph. It got up along with the other zombie. Both of the zombies slowly started the creep to wards Joseph and Jake moaning. Joseph shot two shots killing one of the zombies, then he let out two more killing the other. He only had four shots left he would have to save them now.
"I only have four shots left," Joseph warned Jake, "Hopefully we'll find more ammo soon."
