Information: The coolest zoo you will ever witness, all sorts of animals are brought here. Although it is fairly typical, there are never really any special events such as new and unseen animals being transported in and such. Still, it's been depicted as a natural habitat extremely well... a little too natural though if you wish, with how animalistic the place has become.

[Veronica enters the Chicago Zoo.]
A car drove down the empty road, passing by abandoned cars and dead bodies. Veronica kept her eyes straight ahead, not wanting to be distracted by the corpses, which could reanimate at any given time. It was hard to steer through the street, much of it was covered by other vehicles, that had been left trapped in a traffic jam.
The car suddenly stopped, the wheels rolling to a creaky stop. "What? Oh, please don't tell me," Veronica mumbled, peering at the small gas gauge behind the wheel. The tiny arrow was set on the letter E, empty. Veronica frowned, sitting upright. The car was stuck in the middle of the road and she was all alone. She took in a shaky breath, lifting the old worn messenger bag from the passenger seat. It was time to go on foot once again.
Veronica pulled out her handgun, unlocking the door and climbed out onto the paved road. It was eerily quiet, a cool breeze blew over and a few stray locks covered her eyes. She brushed the hairs aside, glancing at the large section beside her. Most of the road was cut off by the piles of cars, but the zoo seemed to be open. It was dangerous, more than likely a few infected animals might be roaming the space.
Veronica sighed, knowing it was the next bext place to look. She moved, heading towards the zoo's entrance. Her goal was to try and find some gas, fill up the car and get moving again. "Hm, I don't like this, not at all," she muttered to herself, adjusting the bag strap. She continued to walk until she reached the zoo entrance, two large, tall gate doors. She pushed open the unlocked gates to the zoo and entered into the unknown area.

[Rodney Sargent enters zee area.]*The day is rather cool, while Chicago is quite notorious for being cold. Although today was quite bearable; more so than that Chicago is accustomed to. Such a shame that when Chicago is under a beautiful day, the circumstances are undying. Population was extremely low and people were scarce among Chicago these days. However, Rodney, along with his two best friends, Shane and Kyle, are roaming the streets of Chicago.
Rodney was last informed of his younger sister, Leah, getting abandoned here in Chicago. The unfortunate thing is, Rodney has no idea where. Rodney was blaring down the streets on his ninja bike. Wearing a jacket to shield himself against the harsh breeze that is plowing his body on the speeds he's reaching. As well as sunglasses due to it being during the day and a bit sunny. The ninja bike draws attention, and is ridiculously loud. Shane and Kyle tried to convince Rodney not to bring the bike.
Rodney understood where they were coming from. The main reason Rodney wanted to bring the bike instead of any of his other vehicles, because it does in fact draw attention. He's aware of that Leah would be able to recognize the sound of his bike because he's taken her rides on it a lot during their days back in Florida. Not only help find Leah, but perhaps anyone at all that could aid the three on their search for Leah.
Rodney feels the cellphone in his pockets vibrate, and he slows the bike down as soon as he does. The three were split up, driving all around Chicago for a greater chance to find Leah. Rodney eventually came to a stop in the middle of the streets, luckily no zombies were around when he did. He pulls his cellphone out, and sees he's received a text message from Kyle.*
*Rodney merely smirks, while closing his phone. Eventually shoving the phone back into his pocket. After he does so, he turns his head to gaze around the surroundings. He spots a few zombies in the afar. He ponders for a moment, as he seems to check all the road signs. Then it finally occurred to him to check the map he's carrying. He reaches around, to pull the drawstring backpack off of the bike. He removed the latches he had set, and ventures into the bag. Pulling out the map, and spreading it open. Glancing down upon the map, figuring out where he's at, and concluding the route he has to take in order to get to the zoo.
He sheathes the map back inside, and places the drawstring backpack to it's previous state, exactly the way it was. He notices the zombies are several feet away, as he accelerates the bike, and zooms past him. The wind sheer that slides over the bike had caused the clumsy zombies to stumble to the side. Rodney analyzes the roads, becoming aware of the streets more so than what he was several hours ago.
Moments later, Rod pulls up to the entrance of the zoo. Spotting Kyle's truck parked along with all the other cars. Kyle flagged him down as Kyle was just standing there, chilling as he was leaned against the tailgate of his truck. Rod pulled up near his truck, and shut the bike off. Rod sits back on the bike a bit, as Kyle had pulled himself off of the truck. Shane's 240 is then heard coming along the road, as Rod and Kyle turns their heads to look. Shane parks his car right beside the truck and bike. Shane climbs out of the car after turning it down.*
• Kyle • "See what I mean?" *Referring to all the cars around the zoo.*• Shane • "Yeah, but how are ya able to tell how long they've been there?" *Shane spoke after he had walked his car, and approached the two.*• Rodney • "Well, they're clean. Compared to all the otha cars we've came across." • Kyle • "Exactly." • Shane • "But... Les say they are people in there... Why would they all park their cars out here? Seems like they'd park inside... Lock the gates to prevent anythang from gettin' in." *Shane, of course, is usually the skeptical one.*• Kyle • "Not errbody is a survival genius like you, Shaney boy!" *Kyle, is the humorous one.*• Shane • "Hah, looks like I've got some influencin' ta do. You two, are mah side-kicks, right?" • Rodney • "You guys remember why we're here, right?" *Due to the objective, Rodney is too focused to take things lightly and is now cast as the serious one.*• Kyle • "Of course, man." • Shane • "An' you think Leah could be in there?" • Rodney • "I dunno... but we have to go in an' look at least." • Kyle • "Yeah... And ya know, while we're lookin' for people, we'll get ta see some exotic animals, eh? Like tigers 'n stuff?" • Shane • "Hopefully not... I doubt they'd be able to survive... Although all the animals are locked in cages... or should be." • Rodney • "Alright... To what Shane said earlier, we should take our rides in, and lock the gates... To keep our stuff from gettin' tampered with, and to prevent from anything else from gettin' inside." • Shane • "...And getting out?" *Shane crosses his arms, and looks to Rodney with a curious facial expression.*• Rodney • "We know how to break locks... Kyle can pick locks. That's somethin' that mindless zombies cannot do." • Shane • "Just cause we got the fiya powah, doesn't mean that the supposedly surviva's do. I'd say shut the gates at least, but not lock 'em. As you said, their mindless. They see a closed gate, they'll more than likely walk on by." • Rodney • "Ugh... Okay then." • Kyle • "A'ight, soun's lika plan. Let's do it!" *The three pull away from the conversation, to perform the task at hand. Rodney was already sitting on his bike. All he had to do was ignite the engine, and coast on inside. Kyle and Shane, took several moments to turn their vehicles around, in order to drive straight through the entrance. As they were doing so, Rodney had already situated his bike near a tree, as he was removing his jacket, and resting it inside the compartment on the back of the back. He the adjusts the shoulder holster that hugs his body, and pulls out his desert eagle.
Kyle and Shane parked their vehicles, while they were getting their gear together while they were sitting in their cars. During the meantime, Rodney stepped over, and pulled in the large, and heavy gates together. He saw a chain, and then decided to loop the chains around the two gates, to give the gates the impression that they are locked, but they're not. Rodney turns around, to see Kyle and Shane suited up, with their guns in hand. They nod to each other, and they three walk among the path, toward the main building in the afar inside the zoo.*

[Evelyn Eichel enters zee zoo.]
How many twists and turns? How many alleyways and side streets did she take? How many hours had she been walking to get here? The answer was too many, too many hours of walking and frantic running, too many shortcuts and lengthy distances crossed. But she was someplace, the air didn't have the heavy taint of rot lingering and there were cars, people must have come here because of the high walls and heavy steel gates. In some ways it would have been a perfect place to wait for a rescue, but nothing was ever perfect and nothing was ever truly that easy.
She moved up to the gate and gave it a quick tug, as it opened up, the chain coming loose and falling to the ground with a clatter before pulling the gate open just a tiny more to allow herself and her gear in. Picking the chain back up, she looked it over then looked ahead of herself, "vhy vould they not lock the gate and only give the impression zhat it's locked." A glimmer shone in her eyes as she produced the cutting torch from her back and with a small lighter, produced a bright blue flame from the nozzle as she looped, then welded the two chains together around the gate. "Zhat should do it, but still, zhat means people are here and I still am under authority to do anyzhing to get zhem to safety."
Cutting off the supply of propane and oxygen, the flame died out and she tucked her tools away for now, hands gliding down to unholster her handgun as she gave another cursory glance around the immediate area before proceeding onward, wary of her surroundings and in need of a cold glass of water. Today was going to get worse before it got better and if anything the last handful of hours have told her, the defecation was certainly, not gonna stop hitting the oscillation anytime soon. But at this point in time, it did not make much sense to panic or let despair grip you, that was tantamount to failure and failure, was not an option for Evelyn.
And so, she pressed on, deeper into the Zoo, the civilian carbine strung across her shoulder and her handgun in hand. She had a job to do, dedication was something she felt towards the men and people who lost their lives and loved ones, she felt dedicated and driven to not let that happen again, to not let someone lose someone close to them and in that way, she was dedicated to living, her parents were waiting for her back in Jersey, worried and afraid and for that reason. She would live as her feet carried her off to the main administration building.

*Anxiously arriving at the Administrating building. The surroundings of the building itself was rather deserted. Kyle and Shane approached the large doors, as Rod stood back, peering across the area. No sign of any life-forms whatsoever. Kyle pulls out his M4, and aims it in the direction of the door, while Shane does the same motion with his AK. Shane reaches for the door handles, while turning his eyes to Rod and Kyle. Rod pulls up his eagle, and the beam hits the door, ready to shoot anything that moves on the other side of the door.
Shane nods his head, and presses inward on the switch, and hurls the door open. Rod paces forth, as Kyle enters. Clearing both directions of the door as he enters with the massive shotgun. Shane remains on the side as Rod goes in after Kyle. They see nothing in particular that shows signs of survivors residing here. Shane eventually enters, as he allowed the door to remain open. The three walk further into the lobby. It was quite obvious this place has been scavenged due to the amount of debris spread about on the floor.
They were barely any sunlight beaming through the windows to illuminate the room. They continued roaming through the lobby, to see the door that proceeds onward to the rest of the zoo. The glass door was shattered, and it looked as if something broke in due to the glass being on the inside rather than the outside. Rod approaches the shattered door, and glares out into the zoo wilderness While Rod seems to be staring into open space, Shane had noticed a map of the zoo that was located near the reception desk.
Kyle seems to be wandering around mindlessly, while Rod remains at the shattered door. Shane had gone up to the large map. Looking upon the map to see where all the large buildings are located in the zoo. Trying to conclude the best place that survivors would hide. The most secure building in a zoo would be the building where they keep the reptiles caged up. The reason being apparent, and he assumed that the survivors, if they were any at all, would have locked themselves in there to shelter themselves from the undead.*
- Shane - "Ay, guys!" *Acquiring the attention of Kyle and Rod.* "I think I know where we should look next." Rod and Kyle made their way to where Shane is standing, from which they both gaze upon the map. Shane flicks his index finger onto the building that was mentioned, and smirks to them both. Rod squints slightly as he starts examining the entire map rather than the building Shane pointed at. Kyle simply shrugged his shoulders, because he usually assumes Shane is right.
- Rod - "Theres two buildin's in-between that one. Wouldn't hurt for us to check 'em as we go to it. Since it's also gonna be a long walk." - Shane - "Not sure how much time we have. We're taking a bigger risk by clearing everything. But... I suppose it wouldn't hurt to be thorough." - Kyle - "Alright, les bounce." *Each seem to study the map further, before they turn around to proceed. The formation remains the same as before. Kyle infront, Rod in the middle, and Shane in the back. The formation itself wasn't something they spoke of, it just seemed to fall in place collectively as they ventured. Slipping their frames through the shattered door, stepping on the glass as they walk out onto the cobble stone path. The zoo appearing to be quite tropic, as it had contained mass amounts of variations of animals.
Kyle holds up his M4 as he begins to pace along the path. Rod following, turning his body side to side, the laser beaming everywhere as he turns. Shane walks casually, allowing the AK to rest at his hip. Shane suddenly acts as if he heard something in the distance. He stops, and turns around and looks back to the administration buildings. Rod and Kyle turned around, and look to Shane. They didn't hear anything, but Shane seemed to be quite acute when it came to hearing. Shane may have heard the chains of the gate being tugged on by Eve. But that's something Shane wasn't able to specify, he just heard the distinct noise of the rumbling the chains made whey they were carelessly handled. *
- Rod - "What? Did ya hear somethin'?" - Shane - "Uh... I think... I don't know... Eh, let's keep goin'." - Rod - "Ok." - Kyle - "Is tha suspense gettin' to ya man?" *He spoke to Shane as the three began to walk forward again.*- Shane - "Don't be ridiculous." - Kyle - "If ya say so... It's okay to be scared." *Kyle looking back at Shane's direction, chuckling as he seems to be fooling around. Shane just sort of stares at him with a sigh. Kyle eventually turns back around, and Rod nods to Shane. They focus on the formation once more, and they are evaluating the entire area as they turn the frames to see if they spot anything that moves. They continue on down the path further, until they are at the point to where they have traveled nearly hundreds of feet from the Administration building.*

The administrative building, deserted and quiet, nary a peep of life. The howls distant on the wind, a constant reminder of what was outside of here. But it was quiet in the zoo, one could consider the silence peaceful and a pleasant escape from the outside world and what this disaster had wrought. But that was exactly why it was unnerving. It was too peaceful, there was no sounds, save for the howling and moans upon the wind, the leaves and grass rustling. There wasn't a single sound from the animals that by all means should still be here. Had they starved to death, or had someone with misguided intentions released them into the city? That was the question that bothered her the most, even as she stepped through the administrative buildings open door, broken glass crunching underfoot. Where where the animals?
As she pondered that thought for another moment, she swept the room, handgun going from side to side, corner to corner, up and down. It was empty and bare, save for strewn about papers and pamphlets, and as she picked one of the fliers up she turned it over hand in hand before quietly reading it. "Welcome to Lincoln park zoo, vere you can meet all ze unique and exotic creatures of ze vorld." She shook her head before discarding the flier amongst a pile like it, both hands gripping the pistol firmly as she looked around once more before leaving, her footsteps hurried as she headed down the path, only a quick cursory glance at a nearby bulletin board esque map had given her a direction to take, if any directions where to be taken at this point.
It looked like she was heading for the building where they housed the reptiles as a small chill ran down her spine. If there was one thing she had to hate, it was goddamned snakes. Slithering, sneaky little things. Well, when they were small anyways, otherwise they were slithering, sneaky, big things. Either way she didn't want to go there, but it was a secure place so she was gonna have to deal with it and.... deal with anything she found there. Hopefully it would be some normal, living breathing humans and not a bunch of normal, non-living humans.
"Vell, papa always said to conquer your fears..." she chuckled under her breath, the words and sound barely registering as an audible whisper as she moved forward, pistol in hand and unaware of what may lay ahead on her path. Though, whoever said there is nothing to fear, but fear itself. Well, that person can go fornicate with an iron spike. This whole situation had nothing to do with fear, there was no fear to fear here, it was the death and decay, and the constant reminders that floated in like ghostly wailing on the wind that one should fear.
And if anything, Evelyn did indeed fear those more than fear itself.

*Having taken a few curves on this paved walkway, they begin to look through the glass cages. Kyle kept moving forward, without recognizing the cages themselves. While Rod seemed to be interested, and stepped to the side to peer into the glass. Shane whistled out to Kyle to get his attention. Kyle turns around, and looks onto Rod as Rod has his hand pressed against the glass, staring into the monkeys inside.
It seems as if the monkeys were susceptible to the virus, and were turned due to the infection. Humans had stronger immune systems as opposed to most other animals, and that's why the virus in the air isn't sufficient to alter humans. Although that's not the cast for every person, but the majority of humans are strong against the viral infection when it comes to the contagion.
The monkeys were just as mindless as the zombies were. Roaming around at a slow rate, showing no sign of intelligence whatsoever. Their natural instincts seemed to have been rendered to zero because they're sluggish just like a zombie would be. Rod stared at them, as he made eye contact with a few of them. Due to being behind glass, they're unable to smell the flesh, and do react in a savage way. All they do seem intrigued when they look at Rod.
Rod steps away from the glass, feeling a little sorrow as he sees that the animals were completely defenseless from all of this, and were just sitting ducks for the undead. Shane approached Rod from the side, and gazed into the glass as well. Kyle just remained where he stood, watching the two. Kyle wasn't as emotional as they are, and wasn't affected by seeing undead animals.*
- Kyle - "We should get movin' yeah?" - Rod - "...Yeah." *Rod steps away, and Shane follows before pulling his eyes away from the apes. They return back to formation, and resume to pace to their destination. Before the house of reptiles, they had to go around the place where they kept the birds locked up. That facility isn't as secure as the reptilian facility would be, but Shane signaled to the others to stop as if he wanted to look inside.*
- Shane - "We should at least clear this place before we move on. Can't hurt to check, right?" - Rod - "What happened to 'taking a big risk'? Wasting time we may not have huh?" - Kyle - "Yo, I kin'a agree wit' Shano. But eh, not like all three of us has ta go in. Two of ya can go, I'll meetcha around the otha side while I inspect the snake house." - Shane - "Sure you wanna split up?" - Rod - "Splittin' up isn't a good idea, but it'll cover ground faster. So, let's do it." - Shane - "Alright then Kylie, but be careful... I mean it." - Kyle - "Yeah yeah, I got this." *Kyle smirks to Shane, while grinning as he makes eye contact with Rod afterwards. He turns around, and paces onward while having his M4 firmly in his hands as he leads the way with that. Rod and Shane look to each other after watching Kyle walk away. Nodding to each other, and heading toward the bird house, side-by-side.*

Evelyn hurried along, it wasn't safe to stay in one place for too long a time. That was how they found you, even if you thought it was safe, they'd find you. While they were slow and obviously unintelligent - something Evelyn noticed early on - they made up for that with pure relentlessness something that Evelyn found to be disturbing and downright terrifying.
With her handgun gripped tightly, she continued to move up and sweep the surrounding area, ever vigilant and focused on finding people that were still breathing, still lived and to make sure nothing was going to creep up on her and take a chunk out of her neck or something. That was the creepy part about the zoo, other than the lack of life, it was totally goddamned quiet, like a tomb or a crypt. Neither of those places, were places Evelyn wanted to be right now, yet, why did it feel like she was in one now?
It had been minutes, simple, silent minutes that felt like hours until she came across the bird house and if she had been watching for signs of trouble, she might not have spotted the man armed with a shotgun and with a quick flicker of action, ducked behind the most solid thing she could find; one of those stone benches lining the pathway. At first she was reluctant to call out to him, unsure if he would prove to be a looter or someone driven crazy by this series of unfortunate events.
But Eve wasn't the kind of girl to let a few gunshots ruin her day, hell, she proved to be tough as nails during all of her basic training and so she opened her lip and barked out at him, her accent notably German. "Attention, zis is Private first class Evelyn Eichel of the 22nd Infantry Regiment, anvil company. Do not shoot! I repeat, do not shoot!" Truth be told, that was the reason she ducked behind the bench in the first place, a simple precaution in case he did open fire, the bench would probably take a couple hits before breaking and so she sat and waited, either for the sound of gunfire or for something rational, like a joke or conversation.
That would certainly beat being shot at. That's for sure.

*Entering the birdhouse, Rod and Shane keep their firearms held out, ready for whatever may be inside. The cages that birds were locked in, were above them. They were cages that are encased into the ceiling and as well as the walls. They were literally surrounded by birds. All different species as well. Shane inspecting the birds as they were flying in the cages, he seems to assume they were in fact not infected.
Rodney continued forward, the room being quite dark. The only light was the sunlight that was barely beaming from the sunroof through the ceiling cages. They were no windows due to them being surrounded by glass cages. They feel a bit stupid now for not even bringing flashlights. That's one thing that had forgot to look over before they departed for this quest.
Shane approaches Rod as he seemed to be interested in the display case that showing ancient birds. Shane and Rod stared at them, practically just to enjoy the statues of the ancients. Rod shakes his head a bit, when realizing that he lost focus for a moment. Shane smirked, and continued after him as Rod walked away from that spot.*
- Shane - "Things aren't lookin' to good. For a place to be so big, we haven't found anyone yet." - Rod - "Yeah, I figured we'd be wastin' time by comin' in here. Let's just regroup with Kyle." - Shane - "Sure thing."
Meanwhile... *Kyle strolling along the cobble stone path. He was taking his sweet time by taking baby steps. He was mainly gazing about, enjoying the zoo despite the fact of the circumstances. He was careless walking and was holding his M4 down near his pelvis as he was walking. To the point to where he wasn't even looking ahead, he was constantly turning his head to the sides to glance at everything. When suddenly:*
- - "Attention, zis is Private first class Evelyn Eichel of the 22nd Infantry Regiment, anvil company. Do not shoot! I repeat, do not shoot!" *Kyle simply turns around, and looks to the woman. He didn't really have the killer instinct that soldiers have to react in such haste to an enemy. He didn't even pull his M4 up at her, and smirked toward her direction after turning around. He noticed the way she was shielding herself, and almost started laughing. He maintained his laughter, as he's certain the woman was just being cautious of him.*
- Kyle - "Relax, ma'am. I ain't gonna shootcha."

She stayed crouched behind the solid stone, one hand bracing against it, finger tips rubbing against the smooth expertly polished stone as she waited for what felt like years before standing up, her hand moving back to the handgun and with a gentle click, decocked the hammer before flicking the safety back on. "Vell, zis is certainly pleasant." She cooed softly, a grin tugging gently at the right corner of her mouth as she stepped out from behind the alabaster white bench, her heavy looking jacket unzipped, displaying her dogtags and a ballistic vest. She hadn't expected it to be so....warm as she wiped her brow and looked at him once more, her eyes losing some of the focus, gaining a lazy unassuming stare as she moved towards him.
"Are you alone?" She spoke up, as the grip on her handgun relaxed slightly as she looked around slowly with a yawn, eyes scanning the surrounding area more to err on the side of caution and to certain be better safe than sorry. "Also vas it you zhat looped the chain around the fence? Because I gave it a quick spot veld to make sure nothing vas going to shove the gates open." She added with a nonchalant shift in her stature, her free hand pressing firmly against her side as she did one more cursory glance around the area, ears picking up the distant moans and howls carried upon the wind. But there was something more, something low and hoarse.
"Hold on, did you here zhat?" There was something else here, something or someone. Maybe it was nothing, maybe she was just getting a touch of paranoia from the overall silence the zoo provided. How did that expression go again? It was quiet, too quiet? Well for Eve, it certainly was a little too quiet for her liking, like a graveyard in the middle of the night and something about that thought unnerved her. "Coming here was a bad idea."
