There had only been about five other people waiting at the stop when Ethan arrived at the platform, partially wet from the rainy weather above on the streets. The dark green hoody soaked up most of the water, and as he leaned against one of the pillars outcasted from the others as best he could, the top was pulled out and then tied around his waist. It was pretty cold down in the subway, and the wet sweater would only give him a cold by tomorrow if he had it on any longer.
In the process of doing though, however, his cellphone had fallen out of his pocket, and landed on the cement. A small rattle gave away that the battery came out, and landed somewhere in the darker part of the dimly lit area. Feeling embarrest once several eyes turned to him, Ethan quickly searched around on his knees, but before he could recover it, the subway train arrived at the platform. Cursing low to himself, he scavenged the cold floor even faster, watching the people get on the car. As the last one did, he finally grabbed the battery, and dashed inside before the doors closed over. Several people had gave him another look, maybe feeling just slightly relieved that the stranger turned around his misfortune, but Ethan didnt pay much attention, as they most likely didnt care in the slightest.
He fiddled with the cellphone for most of the ride to the next stop, trying to get it working again, but not having much luck after the fall. It could happen ten times and work fine, but on this one day, it seemed to finally fail on him. Agrivated that he never even got to backup his contacts, Ethan drove the device in his pants pocket, then lay back in the seat, resting his eyes. It was going on midnight, this was the last trip around the city. The car had only eleven people in the front of three cars, but the lights were off in the back two, so it was obvious this was the only one that had people on it.
At the next stop, Ethan kept his eyes closed, knowing it wasnt his stop, and just kept relaxing. His day was long, and he needed to just sit down and take a load off. First, his car broke down, the only reason he was taking the subway in the first place. Blew out a tired, and apparently bent the rim too. Wouldnt get the chance to pick it up until tomorrow, but getting into work tomorrow would be manageable, because it was Sunday.
After the subway car started back up, he opened his eyes due to the silence, and seen there had only been three people on the single car. This was one of the most dead rides he had seen in awhile, but it was good because the next half an hour could be peaceful. Nobody holding conversations, or anything silly that usually happened on subways. Exactly why Ethan got a car, just because he hated taking the subway. But as if to remind him of his annoyance for them, a few minutes down the track, and the cars lights had went completely out, and they slow down to almost a complete stop with a screech. This was an emergency stop, but at this hour, usually meant something stupid. When the red dim lights eventually came on, he spoke out loudly to the driver, who probably wouldnt even hear him, or care either way.
"Hey, you do realize theres still people on here, right? And were in the middle of Route 6C?" Ethan joked in the mindset that there would be a standard apology on the PA system, and then the ride would continue after thirty seconds. But there was a good minute of silence, and it was the longest minute in the almost dark he even encountered on the subway. Something was wrong, he could just feel it...

Matty had just gotten off work about two hours ago and should have been home, in bed, but the subway conductor decided he didn't want to show at it's designated time. So she'd spent her hour waiting, holding herself with her soaked hood over her head, hair matted down around her face.
The weatherman claimed a sunny day, clear skies, but it was just the damned opposite. She'd stood along side the other three or four people, also grumbling about the subway. Her backpack was slung over her shoulder, weighing her down with it's newly wet contents from being caught in the rain prior.
"Soniva b*tch, really? Where the hell is this assh*le...?" she'd grumbled. Just then, she'd heard a clink and looked over to see some man drop his brick of a cellphone on the ground, the battery breaking off and landing, God knows where. He'd fumbled to get to it and she would have offered to help if the subway hadn't finally arrived.
The loud screeching of the tracks and the quaking of the platform was like music to her ears at the moment. The doors automatically opened and she'd entered the cart, noticing the other two carts lights were busted.
Sighing, she'd sat herself down on the nearest seat, dropping her bag beside her. When the doors closed, the subway started up and she'd sighed with relief, laying her head back.
After what felt like only a few minutes, the lights flickered off and the subway once mroe, came to a screeching halt. Jerking forward a bit, the young woman grunted and grabbed onto the pole beside her, glaring.
"The hell now?!" she said, a red light blinking in the cab.
"Hey, you do realize theres still people on here, right? And were in the middle of Route 6C?"
The phone dropper joked a bit and grinned, awaiting a response, but none ever came. Matty got up off her ass and wandered on over to the conductor's doors, knocking on it.
"Hey! C'mon! Some people gotta work in the morning, pal! You drunk in there?!" she called out, half jokingly.

Finally, after the minute and a half of silence, somebody else had gotten the guts to stand up and knock at the door. Her comment almost fit the situation, Saturday night, nobody using the subway this late, maybe the conductor had a few too many snips of rum from his flask and hit the brakes. But even after the girl knocked at the door, there was no response. Ethan wanted to get up and try for the door, but knew the girl would find out what was up. The third and final passenger stood up shortly after and moved past the girl to the door, banging on it loudly and shouting out. "Sir, is everything alright?" The way he spoke, it was as if he was some sort of off duty cop or something. It just had a professional tone to it, like he was going to handle the situation no matter what happened.
Leaning around the seat, Ethan looked out of the window, seeing a small, faint light far down the tracks. Couldve been a mile for all he knew, and it was the only light source outside of the car. "Maybe hes-", he spoke out, but was cut off by the sound of plexy shattering. The other man had broken the window, and now unlocked the door. Something was definitely wrong if he had to do that, and at this point, Ethan finally stood up and slowly walked toward the front of the car.
Ethan saw a glimpse of the mans hand when he returned to the car from the conductors seat, and it looked like there was blood covering it. Maybe it was just his mind jumping to the worst case scenario, or maybe this was the real deal. The next sentence sealed it, this was the real deal. Something was terribly wrong. "Do either of you have a cellphone? We need to call 911, this guys not moving..." Ethan wanted to pull out his and dial right away, be the good simaratin in this situation like the other two, but he was useless with the battery broken in his phone. So he kept silent, shaking his head and looking at the female.

Matty furrowed her brows, still looking at the dead conductor when she'd realized the men staring at her. "Huh? What?...Do I look like I can afford a cellphone?" she said, before reaching into her bag to pull out some latex gloves from a small box.
"I'm a med student, not certified or nothin' but I can take a look at 'im," she began.
"Well, I can see if I can open the doors, walk down the tracks and t the platform to get help while you look him over." one man suggested.
Matty shrugged before looking over at the phone-dropper. "I'm guessing your phone's broken then, huh?" she asked, readying herself to take a look at the man. She was unusually calm about the situation but she'd always been a rational person.
Although, she did force herself to believe that maybe the man might have just been unconscious.
"Uhhh...can someone...you know...grab him so I can see?" she asked.

By this time, Ethan felt a little helpless. Okay, maybe not a little, a lot. He couldnt do anything to help, just stand there and watch the scene unfold. His mind wasnt exactly kicking into overdrive or anything, he was too tired for this, but trudged along as best he could that night. He was pretty surprised when the girl took out some gloves though, was she really going to take it upon herself to help like this? Due to the lack of communication with the above world, it wasnt like they had a choice, none of them knew how to operate the train. In the back of his mind though, Ethan knew that somebody would be looking for them when the train didnt reach its destination, somebody would find them, sooner or later.
As the girl asked for some help though, he watched the other man leave the train to walk down the tracks, so this meant it was up to him. Stepping forward, Ethan spoke in a low tone, not sure if he should be feeling happy to help, scared, or calm about dragging the body out of the seat and into the light of the passenger car. "o-okay, miss." Thankfully, Ethan was strong enough, and got the older man out onto the floor of the car, centered on one of the remaining brighter lights near the now open door. His body was almost getting cold, but witht he temperature down here, it felt natural. The skin tone, however, wasnt right. "Christ...", he murmured, "...He doesnt look good."
'Good' mightve been an overstatement, the mans skin had been pale, veins sticking out almost sickly in color. Ethan wasnt a doctor, but it didnt take the med student in front of him to figure out that the conductor was seriously messed up. The why might come if the girls knowledge had been better than expected, but given the situation, he honestly hoped that she knew what she was doing, and could at least wake him up, or even officially say that he wasnt going to die or something. Just the thought urked him, what a terrible ending to a terrible day. As if he thought things couldnt get any worse, this happens.

When the man had drug the conductor out into the passenger car, Matty had kneeled down, grabbing ahold of her bag and placing it neatly under the conductor's head, it wasn't the most comfortable but atleast it'd be supportive. From first glimpse, she already noticed the lack of rise and fall in his chest. Reaching for his wrist, she'd grabbed it, pressing two fingers against it but felt no pulse.
"Sh*t..." she murmurred, looking back up at the two other men. "He's dead," she told him.
One of the men, dressed in a stock boy's apron had pushed her aside, kneeling down in her place and placing his head against his chest. Move aside, you don't know what the hell you're doin! He can't be dead! he griped, obviously in panic.
Matty glared at him and before she could intervene she'd noticed the bloody bandaging around his arm which explained the blood they'd noticed.
"Hey I--" she was suddenly cut off when the deceased conductor had began to stir. He lifted his head up, alerting the man checking up on him to turn to see him. What the fu--ARGH!" Within a matter of seconds, the conductor had stretched his mouth open wide and grappled the man closer, taking a bite out of the side of his face.
"HO'SH*T!" the woman screamed, crawling away from the scene in a hurry.

The moment it happened, Ethan jumped back, away from the scene. It happened so fast, the train conductor just up and started eating one of the passengers. The remaining few passengers had all rushed for the exit of the train, and ran out onto the tracks, taking off toward the red light in the distance. He wouldve done the same, but something kicked in, and told Ethan to help the passenger. Holding onto the support bars above, he used his foot to push the conductor off to the side, giving the victim just enough time to crawl away. He felt like staying in front of the girl was the better idea, she was a lot younger than him, and all in all, just felt like the right thing to do.
But the guy was dead, or at least thats what she said. She seemed certain of it too, you dont misread a pulse, especially if you knew what you were doing. In seconds though, the conductor climbed up to his feet, and then shambled toward Ethan, the same cold look on his face. Blood dripped from his mouth, and little peices of of flesh were caught in his teeth. The sight was unbearable, and Ethan looked the other way, and then kicked the man back once again to the ground. This time, he stopped moving, hitting his head off of the steel chair in the corner of the front.
Finally, Ethan turned around, looking at the med student, and the victim he brought himself up into a chair, holding his cheek together with one hand. Unraveling his sweater from around his waist, Ethan gave it to the man, and spoke. "Use this to stop the bleeding, somebody will come back with the police, or help of some k-" But before he could finish his sentence, Ethan had been tackled down the steps and onto the track by the conductor. The fall twisted his arm a bit, but after a second, he got up to his feet and backed away from the attacker. The sound of running was now too faint to be heard, and the dim shadows signified that the people who escaped made it to the emergency exit at the end of the tunnel.
The conductor got back up to his feet yet again, his neck twisted to the side, obviously broken. But he just came forward still, not even feeling any pain. Ethan wanted to run, but staying with the girl and the wounded man seemed like the better idea. Pushing past the conductor, he jumped back onto the train, and closed the manual latch on the door, locking it in place. The pair of hand banged on the side of the car, and didnt show any signs of letting up anytime soon. Ethan looked at the wounded man, and then the girl, speaking out in a horrified voice now. "What the hell happened to him!?"

Matty had watched the man fall out of the train when the conductor attacked him, she was ready to take a swing at the crazy bastard but the passenger had managed to escape and hop on the train, closing the door behind him. As they both looked out at the persistent attacker, she'd glanced at the man, asking what could have possibly happened to drive the once dead man, beserk.
Licking her dry lips, she'd gulped back a stinging lump in her throat. Her face was pale and frightened, just as the others were. "I don't...I don't know....he was dead, I swear it he was dead!" she responded, pushing away from the sight and grabbing at the bridge of her nose.
She shut her eyes, inhaling deeply in an attempt to relax herself, but nothing was working. "Maybe a virus or something? I mean...weren't there reports of a virus going around? I don't know!" she continued, trembling.
Suddenly, the injured man began to vomit onto the ground, coughing and gagging hoarsely. Matty looked over to him and rubbed the back of her neck before going through her bag, nothing but text books and gloves in there, not much else.
"Dammit...okay, just...relax, sir. Keep applying pressure to your face otherwise you're gonna bleed out. Sit down and relax, I know it's going to be hard to but you have to try, you might go into cardiac arrest from shock."

Between the girls talking and the banging on the side of the car, Ethan stared out of the window, just watching the man try to break the door down. He was using all the effort he could, making vocals sounds, but werent audible enough to make out. Not like it was English anyways, moaning was all that could be heard, and it was dreadful. The thought of a virus going around that did this was just insane, there was no way it was possible. But thinking about it even more, the girl was right, there had been reports on TV of attacks in the Arklay Region. Ethan just assumed them to be animals, not people doing it.
Well, they were going anywhere anytime soon, it would take awhile for the others to reach the surface and send for help, so until then, they could only sit and wait, and hope the sort of help they sent would be able to deal with this. Making himself useful, Ethan moved into the conductors car, and disengaged the brakes, now that the train was completely stopped. He wouldnt even think of moving again, but at least now with the emergency brakes off, the power could be turned back on. There wasnt a lot of light, but in a matter of a few minutes, he was able to get the lights on in all three cars, and when he moved out into the first one, seen all the blood on the floor. It was the most hed ever seen, and just how bad the man looked with his own two eyes.
The banging on the outside wasnt letting up any, but it was good to have more light now, and if they had to move cars it would be easy to see. Having the knowledge of machinery certainly came in handy in situations like these, at least. Ethan spoke to the girl again, this time in a little more calm tone. "Say it was a virus... ", he half questioned. Nodding his head to the wounded man, he collected himself, and finished in a lower voice now to the other man would hear and get upset. "Would that mean hes got it?"

Matty looked up at the man and then over at the wounded passenger, whom was busy crying and applying pressure to his horrible wound. "I'm not sure...Maybe?" she squeaked, awkwardly. She'd readjusted her footing and reached for her bag, slinging it over her shoulder. If that was the case, maybe it was a form of Rabies? She wouldn't be able to handle that.
Looking over at the seats, there'd been a black umbrella left behind with some grocery bags, probably the other passenger that'd gone for help. Speaking of which....
Matty grabbed the umbrella, holding it firmly in both hands and keeping her eyes on the injured man. "That one guy never came back. No one's come back yet...and...I got to thinking, maybe that virus is like rabies," she began in a whisper loud enough for her and the passenger to hear.
"Rabies has been known to make people do some outrageous things. Biting and consumption of human flesh is among them. We should be, ya know, cautious," she told him. "My name's Matty, by the way," she said.

The moment the girl spoke her mind on the topic, Rabies came up. This was a little nerve wrecking, because it wasnt anything to mess around with. Ethan seen it in dogs, good, nice friendly dogs that had to be put down because of rabies. But carried over to humans, usually didnt make them do things like what the conductor outside did. Whatever it was, he would be careful not to let the victim get the jump on him, if it turns out its how things were.
Introducing herself wasnt really nessicary, but it was civil, and calm, which was only natural to respond back with a name as well. "Ethan... What do you plan on doing with that?", he asked about the umbrella. If her intentions were to defend herself with it if things got to that point, then she had a little more balls than he originally thought. Reaching into his back pocket, Ethan pulled out a folding knife, which had a small multitool in it as well. The knife had been sharp enough to cut wires and the like, as he used it for work almost everyday. But he also carried it for defense, you never knew traveling the streets at night. Flicking up the blade, he kept it close to himself, and then mulled out before Matty could even answer. "Lets hope it doesnt come to that..."
The conductor outside of the cart had been still banging away, and bloody fingerprints now riddled the window. He couldnt get a tight grasp, so breaking the glass wouldnt happen at that level, but it was still shocking to see the amount of energy he had in him for a sick guy. Looking at the blood, Ethan followed the trail to the bleeding man, and knew that he wasnt going to make it. It wasnt any sort of negative talking, it was just a lot of blood, and it didnt seem to be stopping, no matter how tightly he pressed the sweater against his wound. Ethan shook his head to Matty, and spoke in another low tone, the same they had been using. "Hes gonna to die, isnt he?" It hurt him to think it, but for some reason, Ethan had a way of accepting it. Maybe it was something in his past, who knows, but he knew that the guy was gone when the paramedics hadnt arrived less than ten minutes later.
The negativity came when he thought about it. Nobody came back for them, and nobody would come at this point. Maybe this thing is happening above ground. Ethan had been working all day, and never really got a chance to see Raccoon City during daylight hours, nor heard the radio or the news. Sooner or later, they would have to leave the subway train, and get up to the surface, hopefully without any pieces of their skin missing.

Matty turned to look at Ethan, grimly. She was pretty sure he was gonna die. Rabies infection or not, he was gonna bleed out from that wound. "Pretty sure...yeah..." she said lowly. As if on cue, the man collapsed onto the floor, his flesh pale. There'd been a loud, resounding, thud when he collided with the cart floor and then silence.
The banging on the doors had also seemed to seize. There'd been a long stretch of silence...it was almost unbearable.
Matty gulped slightly and slowly made her way over to the body, holding the umbrella infront of her. "Sir...? Sir....?" she tried, walking carefully with one foot infront of the other. She'd felt a cold sweat drip down the nape of her neck and down her spine. She knew he had to have gone unconscious and it was only a matter of time before he'd die and she couldn't help him.
"We need to get the hell out of here," she said, walking back to the next cart door and tried to slide it open, only to find it locked. "Crap. Ethan, do you know how to open these doors from the main control panel, cause I don't."

As the man slipped away from life in front of his eyes, Ethan was a little sad, but the confusion of what was going on overrode the emotion. It seemed that all attempts to save him were gone now, and it was just a matter of getting out of the Subway Station and to the track E-exits. Without even answering her question, Ethan walked over to the controls at the front, and flicked a couple of switches. The two in particular had opened up both of the doors leading to the other carts, but the third wasnt functional, it seemed.
Once he moved across the first car, Ethans eyes had been fixed on the dead body. Not because he was dead, but because he was afraid of what might happen next. But in the next car over, things had been clean, and the banging on the side was all over it seemed. Things were back to a visual normal, at least. He didnt know exactly what to do, whether or not they should leave, or stick around just for another half an hour in case anybody did happen to show up. With the time that already passed, if the paramedics were going to show, they wouldve done so by now. This was a scary thought, because surely there was a procedure for getting a team down into the subway tracks, and that sort of call wouldve been priority. Which meant that whatever was going on above mustve been much, much worse then down here.
Still, Ethan didnt say this, because chances are Matty had been thinking the same thing, and, or, would just get worked up. The both of them had every reason to get worked up, but they needed to keep their cool, at least for now. Sitting down on the seat, Ethan tried to relax himself, and spoke. "How far from there next time is your place?"
