There was just something about him, Splain could always pick it up in people, even after just seeing them for the first time. This older man was going to play a large role in everything, the following month would be pegged on the calendar of life, with him as one of those pegs. Obvious tension didnt need to be seen, it was also smelled for those with the keen sense. Nobody had butter knives, only sharpened combat blades and surgical tools, which might as well be one in the same.
Two sides, one "good" and one "evil". Whichever you seen as either side, didnt matter in the end, because somebody would always be in the middle. This elderly man was the on sitting on the fence at this point. Maybe he knew these mercenaries, maybe he was just somebody in the wrong place at the wrong time. A request coming from him like that, though, letting the others live in exchange for his cooperation? That was just stupidity. But it wasnt like that these days, he wasnt a stupid old man, he was wise, and spoke his mind. Splain liked that. Just another good sight to see in somebody he thought to stand out among the others.
"Fine. Aside from the few handpicked by Ivan, the rest wont be harmed, I promise you this..." Ivan probably seen this as the doctor being soft, but would follow through regardless, because there was a meaning to everything. An urge for every act of heroism. A method to the madness. "Ivan, do as you see fit to with that one, but as for the others-", he paused mid sentence, looking up at the armed men. "Strip them of their gear, and then lock them in the abandoned fuse station. Give them their rations for the day, and then keep an eye on the sewer entrances."
Splain knew exactly what he was doing. Ivan would get to have his fun with the man he picked from the crowd, while the others got to live. Or rather, get treated as something other than just test subjects, even if for a day or two. But now, looking at the old man, the doctor spoke to him, reaching out his hand. "Let me hold onto that for you. Doctor-...?" He didnt ask for a first name, only a surname, out of respect to go along with the role he carried out. "Doctor Kerhossivossin, Splain to friends. If youd like, we could be friends." He said in a creepy tone.

As soon as Splain gave the order to lock up his men, they all knew they weren't getting out alive. Splain introduced himself to Tim and referred to Ivan by name and Russell recognized the pair. The two had single handedly attacked a police station in Germany kidnapped the prisoners and escaped. They had also attacked a refugee camp at Lake Trinity, killing many. Their men moved in to disarm Russell's men, many fought back. Russell took part in resisting, he turned his revolver in his hand to hold it by the barrel and took swings at their heads and stabbed at them with his combat knife.
Ivan stood quickly and rushed in to fight. Ivan swatted Russell to the ground and turned to the others. Grabbing one by the throat he lifted him into the air and the him into the wall. Russell was unsure how he performed the feat of strength but attacked anyway. He jumped at Ivan, knocking him to the ground. Russell pressed down onto Ivan's throat trying to choke the brute to death. Ivan collected himself and punched Russell in the head just enough to knock him off. Russell attacked again but was caught at the wrists by Ivan. Fighting back was now useless since those of his men still alive were beaten to the ground and held there at gunpoint.

Tim watched helplessly as one of the men lifted a mercenary up by the neck and hurled him towards a wall. The doctor swore he could have heard bone crunching against the cement, but it could very well have been his imagination. The brief skirmish was brutally ended, with most of the men beaten senseless. He rubbed his head with a hand and sighed. Apparently his effort to keep everyone alive ended with failure.
He nodded his acknowledgement to the other doctor with a very long name. What was it now, Kerokeropi? Krashy something? His name though, Splain, was far easier to use, but he decided to call him doctor instead. As for Tim’s name, he better keep it a secret. Giving names to strangers often is a bad idea. Better think of another name fast.
“Kooshimon. It's Chinese.” Tim nearly slapped himself for the ridiculous sounding name but instead raised both his hands up. These men are dangerous and he preferred not to end up like the mercenaries with him. Hopefully his Oriental features will make the name believable.

The doctors name had been very different, but none the less, a name was a name. He seemed to be cooperating very well, which was good because it made things so much easier. "Very well then, Doctor Kooshimon. Allow me to escort you further into the sewer, and let these brutes duke it out for the time being." Finding another doctor among them had been sheer luck, and Splain was about to let stray gunfire accidentally kill the man. He even let him keep the pistol, as a sign of trust.
As the pair walked through the passage way, Splain could hear that the commotion in the previous section had been getting more mulled out, soon nothing more than distant echoes. There had been so many questions Kooshimon had to ask, but before they were answered, the doctor wanted to ask something. Just out of general curiousity. He had no idea what the man had seen before today, but if they were going to keep the trust barrier going, Ivans secrets would need to be shared. "Do you have any idea what my partner is? Far superior than human, but more civilized than a BOW. They gray area would be him, capable of killing fifteen men in the span of a minute, maybe even less. I plan to recreate this. Now, maybe a doctor such as yourself would like to research somebody like Ivan, yes? Learn something new? Something fresh?"
An opportunity like this didnt come around often, but sharing his research with another doctor would be a good exercise. Two great minds are better than one, and Kooshimon didnt seem to have been lacking a great mind. Maybe the research and experiments could be finished in sooner then scheduled, if they had another set of hands helping them. Ivan did the security, whole Splain did the experimentation. This new doctor could assist them with an opinion from an outside source. That is, unless he worked for Tricell, or some other corporation. Then things would be different. But he didnt look the type.

Ivan's men wrangled up the few remaining mercenaries and the locked them in a cage. Their gear had been taken and they were left in just their clothes. Ivan put Russell into a separate cage and stared into his eyes. After a few moments he began talking to the masked mercenary.
"Why do you wear that mask? I have never seen anything like it." Ivan asked Russell inquiring about the odd equipment. Russell ignored him and asked his own question. "Why did you kill all of those people at Lake Trinity?" Ivan simply laughed in response.

Tim breathed a sigh of relief and nodded OK to the other doctor. He stole one last look at the struggling mercenaries before following Splain deeper into the sewers. As he talked about the frightening capabilities of his companion, the more Tim felt that breaking out of this hole is a futile attempt. The best he can do right now is to cooperate and maybe he will be permitted to leave the area once the man’s goals have been accomplished. At Splain’s invitation to perform a joint research on this superior human, Tim became slightly uneasy. He never had any experience with something like this before. ”But doctor, my work is about treating illnesses and researching for cures. I have never dabbled in such an experiment before. How exactly can I help you with this?” although Tim is reluctant to proceed, he doesn't want Splain to think that he is useless. The doctor might just kill him for that.

It was pretty simple, the answer anyways. But it was complicated in the long run. "Well, you see. Im a doctor of many sorts, mostly things youve never experienced. I like to conduct research in a much different way, sometimes by cutting things open. Living things, so I can, you know. Everybody sees things different, you and I have different opinions on things. Mine are compromised by all of this mutation talk, and things that seem impossible, or out of the ordinary. I would like the medical opinion of a doctor who had been blind to these things his career. This is where you come in. A fresh new opinion. On Ivan, the test subjects, everything. I want to hear it from you. But for now, just relax, and try to forget the appending apocalypse..."
After reaching into his pocket, Splain pulled out a can of beans that had a pulltab on it. Every since the outbreak began to take over the United States, canned good had been produced with easy open tabs. "...Here, take it, im sure you havent had any real food in a long time. This is from Germany. Its good, very good. Much more filling."

He’s right about something, about having different views on how research should be done. Tim had experience in cutting bodies open, but it was for delicate surgeries and to save a man’s life, not toy around it or for research. The only bodies that he did open for research are cadavers in medical school, but that was thirty years ago. Or was it forty? Hell, he’s too old to remember that kind of crap.
”Thank you.” The old doctor accepted the tinned food, taking out a small spoon from his pocket and scooping out a portion of the beans. He would have preferred another meal from the hotel, but in a situation like this, he can’t afford to be picky. Plus they’re good German beans. Tim was under the impression that the only thing worth tasting in Germany is their beer. Clearly this was not the case. "You mentioned something about recreating another superhuman like your companion. Is he to be an object of your research?”

Normally making friends and being the good guy didnt suit him, because Splain always had a soft heart, and appreciated when people were trying to kill him, or judging him for the work he did. A lot of his work made this outbreak much more bearable, if only the world knew his accomplishments, they would thank him instead of trying to kill him. Tricell knew exactly what he did, and thats why they were after him. Or possibly, it was because of his genius mind. Whichever the reason, he wouldnt let anybody get in his way.
"Ivan? Yes, hes going to be a part of the testing. His genes, his blood, what makes him tick inside is the answer to all of the questions. I plan to harness it, and recreate what he is. If we succeed, it will go one of three ways. The first being that we end up with more superhuman specimens, but getting them to do what we want would be tricky. Secondly, we could end up with another Rac-.. Incident.. on our hands..." Splain was always shy of saying the name Raccoon City, mainly because of how much trauma it caused people. It was always best to forget it, where the world began to end. "Third, we get enhanced figures to work with, people to follow out commands based on genetic placement. An army of Bio-Organic Soldiers, incapable of feeling pain, or emotions. Thats our goal."
Splain felt like maybe he was sharing a secret, but the old man seemed more than trusting, and its not like he could go and spread the word to the authorities. The small group wasnt after a new world order or anything foolish, they wanted a chance to make things better, to exterminate the threat, both human and monster.
Reaching into his pocket, Splain pulled out a radio, and then spoke into it. "Ivan, we will meet you at the table for your examination now. Finish up your business and we can get started." Examining Ivan hadnt even come to happen in the past few years, either of them just had any time. They had been working with something else, another project, and failed to see that Ivan was the answer they were working for all along. Inside him. They just needed to get access to it. With the doctors help, the pair could harness this, and their chances of achieving their goal would be even greater.

Ivan readied himself for his self examination. He would get to have fun with the mercenaries later, especially if their work succeeded. Ivan removed his jacket and shirts so the two doctors could draw blood and whatever else they needed. He laid down on the second table and closed his eyes, relaxing.
Russell was infuriated but could do nothing but sit in the cafe and shout insults at his enemy. This was a waste of energy so he simply say down and waited for his chance to strike.

Tim didn't move, but instead waited for the other doctor to collect everything they need. He is afraid that one wrong move would send the test subject's fist flying into his face, and himself flying halfway across the room. They need a lot of blood since this was no ordinary human being and further experiments will be required. He would also need to be hooked to scanners to monitor muscle activity and condition, regenerative capabilities, and hormone secretion. The feat of strength he demonstrated earlier would mean one of those are in need of constant scrutiny. However, he did not feel the need to inform Doctor Splain of their requirements, as the man was obviously an expert in this field. Far more knowledgeable than him, that's for sure.

When Splain began interacting with his partner laying on the table, he felt the urge to cut him open and see how he ticked. But that wouldnt happen, the both of them had too much trust with eachother to allow anything like it. Sill, in all of his years, he has yet to see the internal changes with his own eyes. Maybe the day Ivan kicked the bucket, then he could be properly examined for general curiosity. But until then, everything else they could possible do would be enough to continue his research. Besides, Ivan would probably live longer then Splain would, even if he wasnt superhuman.
"Have I ever told you about my other encounters and tests with ones like you, Ivan?" The doctor spoke, forgetting if maybe Ivan already heard, or maybe this was something new. None the less, he was going to tell him anyways, just so the other doctor could hear it. "There are others out there, some more powerful then you. Eeh, no offense, strictly speaking in scientific terms. Usually, they have side effects that are caused by irregularities, even for somebody whos above human. Ive set a standard for humans, and ive set a standard for BOW. But for the ones in the middle, very unpredictable, even if you just see them in action."
It would take a couple of minutes for the machines to start working, as the generator down here was for personal use, and they were trying to go easy on the power supply. If the broke any fuses, the people above would know, and could pinpoint the problem. Sure, it was easy to kill whoever got in their way, but sometimes avoiding killing made things so much easier. "You are very healthy, much more healthy then some of the others ive seen. Unless your having some side effects your not telling me about, but I dont think youd be stupid enough to keep that sort of thing to yourself."
Finally, the ECG was up and running, and soon followed multiple activity scanners, including one for brain function for good measure. Splain took his first blood sample from just beside Ivans heart, and then a second from his arm, to compare. Surely there would be differences between the two. Somewhere along the lines, the blood would change, be affected by the virus inside him. Classifying this virus was going to be the tricky part, especially with how well Ivan had bonded to it. "When the undead rose up to feast on the living, why do you think they ate? I dont really think about it, I just enjoy killing them. As youve seen different BOW types as well, besides the walkers. Some of them dont care about eating you, they just want to kill."
Which was still interesting, but it could be explained if he got his hands on another superuman, which shared the same thought process as one of the walkers. "There was another like you, only failed in some ways, but always excelled in others. He likes to feed on his prey. You dont get those sorts of cravings, do you Ivan?" It wouldnt make sense if he did, but either way, it was better safe then sorry to ask. Because if he did, then narrowing down the strain would be a little easier. Not much, but a little.
Splain was curious as to what the doctor thought of all this, and hoped that he would speak, at least ask questions himself. Being quiet was too unnatural, especially during an operation like this. If he needed complete focus, then Splain would be keeping silent. But now, it was the doctors turn to see things for himself, to open his eyes to everything.

Tim watched on as Splain did his thing, intent on being silent for the rest of the preparations. He was right, no need to remind Splain of what to gather and what to monitor on their test subject. The other doctor worked in a smooth manner, as if he has performed this kind of preparations a thousand times. Based on the story he just told to Ivan, he probably did. Tim wondered, if this Ivan had been exposed to the zombie virus before, and if his body is naturally equipped with a form of antivirus to combat the infection. If he was, this is his chance to develop a drug to prevent future infections. Other drug companies, like this TriCell Corporation, might already have these kinds of drugs, but Tim doesn’t know it yet. Of course, saving the zombies already in the advanced stages of decomposition will be very unlikely, but at least they would be able to give other survivors a fighting chance.
It was a pipe dream, but a dream none the less.

Ivan smiled. He wasn't sure if Splain was playing dumb or sincerely forgot. Ivan decided to explain it anyway. "Splain, my friend, I have already explained to you how I have lived for 93 years and have not aged a day since the experiments. But for your friends sake I will explain it all again. It was back during World War 2, after Nazi Germany invaded Russia. They had been performing even more disgusting acts behind closed doors than at their camps. Regular civilians were experimented on with a flower the Germans had found in Africa, the same one that caused the Raccoon City incident. Well they had had many fruitless experiments using the Polish and Jewish and even some French civilians. They thought it might have been the weak bodies or their 'dirty blood'. They started taking Russian soldiers, thinking that the body of a soldier would be stronger and more capable for the experiments. They hoped to make super soldiers to fight the Ally soldiers and control the world. The flower had been consumed by villagers in the area and the villagers were living longer and were stronger and faster than the Nazis. This is what gave the Nazis this idea.
Well during the battle of Stalingrad, a squad of us not skilled in the use of a Sniper's Rifle resorted to hit and run tactics which were just as devastating. If a tank rolled into the city, it never rolled out, a squad of Nazis marching down the street were usually wiped out in seconds. We were brutal but necessary. Eventually all good runs come to an end and we were ambushed. Taken captive, rather than dying for no reason, we were brought to one of their labs where they were experimenting. Many who were experimented on died or were horribly mutated. I eventually was put into the machine which resembled an iron maiden. They injected me with needles before closing the machine up and releasing a gas or dust for me to breath in. I remember a blinding white pain before I broke out of the machine and ran for my freedom. I hard incredible strength and was able to easily kill with my bare hands. I have never had hunger or any sort of rotting either." He explained to the two doctors.

Listening to the story partway, Splain easily remembered, but hadnt stopped Ivan from telling it to the doctor. It was a very, very interesting story, and one that he would definitely learn from. Not maybe people got the opportunity to sit down and hear the story. Most of them who sit down with Ivan are forced to at gunpoint. The old doctor, at this point, would undoubtfully be given freedom after everything had been completed. Though he most likely thought otherwise. maybe planning to escape, or maybe he accepted his death already.
"I feel that somewhere down my bloodline, I have known Ivan. Either of us can really point it out, because going back in time isnt possible, and I dont remember my parents with everything that has happened. But I feel Ivan is my only family, like a brother. An older brother, very old, but still looks younger than me, ahhahaha..." The gift of eternal youth was something he dreamed of, and was jealous of Ivan for it. Maybe it could come before his time, but until then, to move on with the plan ahead. "...Alright, well lets go get out first, shall we? Doctor, why dont you lead." It wasnt that he didnt trust the old man, it was just how he did things. Taking part in even the seedy part of the operation, gathering his human livestock for testing was no easy task.
