Raine picked her 9mm up from the table, put the safety on and placed it in her back pocket. It was still fully loaded so she didn't have to worry about that. Raine shot Lisa a half smile and walked upstairs to the bathroom, closed the door and did what she had to do. She finished up and opened the door again and washed her hands while staring at her face in the mirror.
She saw one of Lisa's shirts hanging over the shower rod, looking at her own shirt covered in spots of blood, she decided to change. 'I'm sure she wont mind' she thought to herself. Raine removed her blood stained shirt and grabbed the blue button down one off the shower. As she slowly put her arms through it, she examined the scars on her body. She has been involved in more fights than she could count, most of the fighting with Jonathan. She could still see the gunshot wound on her chest from where he had shot her during the first outbreak when they were still an item. Then their relationship had gone sour when she refused to marry him and chose Joey. Jonathan got back at her several times, but took the final step when he planted a chip inside her causing her to snap whenever Joey is around. All he has to do is say or do something wrong and that's it, she's gone. As if the virus Jonathan injected her with wasn't enough, he wanted to make sure she was strong like him, but could never beat him.
Raine smirked at the tear that started to form in her left eye, brushed it away and buttoned up her shirt, covering up the memories. She walked back out into the hallway and stepped on a piece of wood. She picked it up and looked at the ceiling where she saw a huge hole. She could feel her eyes burning, but didn't do anything about it. Instead, she went into the bathroom where she splashed some water on her face to calm herself down from the anger she felt forming. She knew someone or something was here, but in her current condition she wasn't in the mood to engage in another fight.
Staring at herself in the mirror she watched as her eyes faded back to their normal color. ''Damn you Jonathan...'' she muttered under breath as she put her hand through the mirror. Raine left the bathroom and made her way back downstairs, old bloody shirt in hand, carefully picking out pieces of glass. ''Hey Lisa.. I owe you a new bathroom mirror..'' Raine said as she wrapped her hand in her original bloody shirt.
Lisa just shook her head and handed Raine a small plate of food. ''I know its not much, but i don't know when you last ate.. so please eat something.'' Raine thanked her and started eating, but couldn't eat much. Her mind was racing and she had to step outside for a little while. She put the plate on the table where her gun was and opened the front door slightly to see if there was anything out there. The porch light was off and the area was clear for now, so she stepped out and took a deep breath as she leaned on the railing watching some infected down the street fight over dinner.

"If we can get back out there, and return with just another few bags full, we will have just enough food to keep up going for the winter. I know the snow is going ti start falling any day now, we dont have much time to get things ready. Our crops our gone, and we dont want to go into our emergency supplies. The caloric intake of what we have left will be enough to last the winter, if my calculations are correct. Given we dont need to go anywhere for anymore then a few hours..." Joey sat down on the ground, taking apart his sidearm, cleaning it out so it would be in top shape had he needed to use it. The other survivor he was with, Ben, was rationing out food for their winter here on the island. This was important, as their survival depended on it, especially since Joey knew that he wasnt going to be around for this winter. He had to go back to the USA, he had to find Raine. Since the outbreak cooked back up, things have been bothering him to the point where he couldnt even sleep at night.
"...Madison, hand me that map on the table, please..." Looking across the paper, Joey marked off several areas where they could scavenge for food that they havent already hit. These places should have what they needed, and if not, then they could easily just ration a little more, change the routine up a bit. This would be their first winter here since the outbreak, it picked a good time to show up. Temperatures of the area were rabidly increasing too, things were going to be downhill from here. They needed supplies in order to hold on, at least until the spring. "...Here, here, here, and here. A fifteen hour job, only need eight litres of fuel, it sounds like this is going to work out a little better than I thought for you guys..."
~~~
The sound of glass breaking brought Joey back into reality, and his mind stopped wandering back to the past before he left his old group to find Raine when the outbreak began. Making sure to keep himself completely silent and hidden in the next room, he waited until Raine left the bathroom, knowing she mustve broken something while inside. But it wasnt important, he just kept a keen eye as she walked back down the steps into the living room to talk to Lisa once again. Their words couldnt be made out at all from this position, but Joey knew the who were down there, and exchanging simple words. As the front door opened up, he listened to the footsteps, and looked outside through the bedroom window to see the infected had given up and were outcasted away from the house.
Now Lisa was alone in the house while Raine was outside, but the vibes he got were still strange. Hes killed people, seens all sorts of strange monsters, Joey was ready for everything at this moment. Everything except how to make his presence known without scaring Lisa enough, the women would probably swing around and put a bullet in his head quicker than she could realize who it was in the first place. Plus, Joey was well aware that Raine would probably react badly to him being around, there was still a lot of confusion on that end. Why did he bother coming back in the first place? Maybe things would be better had he just stayed away, but now, he had to return and make things right. Not just for himself, but for Raine and Lisa as well.
The house wasnt very lit up, most of it was was still very dark, not even the dim moonlight shown in on the walls. Acting almost on impulse now, Joey knew there wasnt any other way this was going to go down but the hard way. Quietly jumping over the banister of the upstairs floor, he climbed down to the living room floor, still keeping himself completely invisible in the shadows. With a quick rush forward, Joey grabbed Lisa from behind, putting his hand over his mouth and locking his arms against her behind her back so she couldnt overpower her. She made vocal noises, but they were muffled out by his hand, but as quickly as it all happened, he spoke out in a calm voice. "Lisa its me, dont be alarmed. Go outside and tell Raine im here, but if you see her start to get angry, promise me youll hide, okay? Im going to let go now..."
Lisa jumped when she felt someone grab her from behind and cover her mouth. She was about to reach into her pocket for her knife when she heard Joey's voice. After he said what he had to say, she nodded in response and he let her go.
''You know, she probably already knows you're here.. so i would tread carefully and be careful with what you say. I'll tell her, but if i were you, i would stay back somewhere until you know how she will react..'' Lisa said with a disappointed look on her face.
Lisa still had no idea what Raine's deal was, only because Raine kept that part hidden from her. All Lisa thinks she knows is Raine is mad at Joey for leaving her, just because that's the story Jonathan told them. But Lisa knew something else was going on and she wasn't going to turn her head anymore when someone asked her to. She was going to get answers tonight, and if Raine doesn't give them to her then Joey would. Lisa looked through the crack in the boarded window and looked at Raine as she thought about what to say to her. ''Then again, why don't you go out and talk to her..?''
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Raine finally got bored watching the dinner fight down the street and let out a small yawn. She cracked her neck and her back to relieve some of the pressure that had been building up for 20 minutes now. As she turned to go back in the house, she heard Lisa talking to someone but couldn't tell who it was. Maybe her hunch from earlier was right.. or maybe she was just on her cell. Either way, Raine waited until Lisa was finished what she was doing before going inside.

I already know how shes going to react, he thought to himself. Joey knew that more more Lisa knew the worse off things would be. Raine didnt want her knowing her secret, and if I got out, it would create a lot of unnessicary stress on both her and the situation in general. The more stress, the strong Raine would be when she did lash out at him. But maybe, just maybe, it was better if he did tell Lisa. Then they could try to help her together, having somebody on Raines good side was an accomplishment, and could work out in the long run for everybody.
When Lisa spoke out, asking why he doesnt just go out and talk to her herself, Joey knew that he couldnt bulls*** the woman anymore. They werent considered friends, that term seeped past him these days, but Lisa deserved to know the truth. Raine would hear him, no doubt, and maybe it would change how she feels if she knows how she needs to feel. Gesturing for Lisa to take a seat on the couch, his hood was removed from covering his face, and he spoke out to her in a very rusty tone. "Raine isnt human anymore. Shes infected. Not with the virus that turns people into the walkers. Shes just like Jonathan now, or becoming like him. Superhuman, using that term as serious as I can. Shes been hiding it because she didnt want things to change. But now she doesnt have a choice in the matter, because..."
Looking at Lisa, it was easy to assume that she needed a minute to wrap her head around everything before he moved onto the more important information. He was no scientist, nor did he have all if any of the answers anybody was looking for. But he knows more then people think, more than even Jonathan himself might know. Joey spoke louder now, making himself more clear, but not to attract the attention of the infected. "...Jonathan injected her with cells that grew over time, and depending on Raines emotions, the cells have a chance to take over how she thinks and acts. Ive seen it before for myself, not with Raine, but with somebody else. She needs help right now, we need to help her control herself. Im not going to run away anymore, im going to stay and fight if I have to, if itll make her understand everything for herself. Even if it kills me, because if she doesnt get the help she needs, more people will be at risk."

Lisa listened carefully to everything Joey had to say. She honestly had nothing to say after he finished, but it made sense to her now. This was probably the reason Raine told her to hide if Joey did come back. Lisa looked toward the boarded up window then back at Joey, ''She'll be in soon.. and if she's anything remotely like Jonathan, she already knows you're here and she probably heard everything... just sayin..''
Raine continued to stare into the darkness, watching the infected walk in circles down the street. She unwrapped her hand to see if it was still bleeding. It wasn't, but it was still cut up and sore. She almost threw it into the grass but doing that may bring unwanted company, so she balled it up and placed it in her pocket.
Just then, Raine's head jerked toward the front door. She heard voices inside the house and her name was mentioned more than once. She moved quietly toward the boarded window and looked through the small gap into the living room. 'You can't see me, but i sure as hell see you..' She thought to herself as she looked Joey right in the eyes.
Raine turned around quietly, carefully avoiding the boards on the porch that made noise, making her way on the grass to the back of the house. Surprisingly, there were no infected in the back yard so she didn't have to make too much noise disposing of them. She reached into the flower pot with her good hand and pulled out the key to the back door. Lisa was talking to Joey at this point, so Raine used this opportunity to unlock the door and quietly walk in. She locked it up behind her as quiet as she could and made her way through the kitchen placing the keys in her pocket.
Raine leaned against the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen, standing about 6-7 feet behind Joey. Raine kept her eyes on him as she flexed her fist a few times. The tension inside her started to build as she softly laughed.. ''You do know it's rude to talk about people when they can hear you dear..''

At first, Joey wanted to jump into action, but he wasnt going to start a fight. It was in his blood, but not with Raine, and not with how strong she was. If she wanted him dead, she wouldve killed him already, so there was no point in fighting. But he didnt respond, nor turn in the direction, just look across the room at Lisa who was a little unsure at what to do. Quite frankly, Joey didnt know what to do either, but he was sure about what not to do. Motioning to Lisa for her to leave the room, Joey slowely walked over to the wall in which Raine was on the other side of, and leaned again it, pressing himself closer to her with only insulation and drywall between them. "You know how much I liked your laugh..."
Before anything else could be said, Joey seen out the window, and the infected had been started to draw their attention on the house. It was only natural, no matter how quiet they were. The walkers knew him and Lisa were inside, fresh meat. If any sort of verbal fighting would go on between him and Raine, they would be swarming this place faster than ants to honey. A bang at the window caught his attention, one couldnt break it, but it was only a matter of time. "...Are you gonna help me clear this street, or would it entertain you more if you sat back and watched? We need a little quiet time either way, so take your pick." The count was around thirty by this time, and so long as they didnt take off any gunshots, it no more would come.

Raine laughed, a sound Joey hasn't heard in awhile. ''You know how I loved looking into those eyes of yours..'' She heard the banging on the boards and heard Joey's proposition. Her fingers traced her gun for a few minutes before she smiled her familiar smile, ''You know I've never been the kind of girl to watch and let the man have all the fun.. I like the action just as much as you do...''
Raine began to sway to music that played in her head as she closed her eyes. She normally did this, so it wasn't weird to anyone. As she opened her eyes, Joey could clearly see she was ready for a fight just by looking into them. Joey could have been relieved since it wasn't him that angered her this time, but he still had to tread carefully, one wrong move and she could go from killing infected to attacking him.
''So darling... how should we start this?'' She asked him in a low voice just inches from his face.

As the breath could be smelled, Joey pulled out his hunting knife, and than glanced a look at the window. Within a few moments, the glass had broken, and that sound was a proper introduction to destruction. Though finding it a little tricky to walk past Raine, as she had him nearly pinned against the wall, Joey slipped by her walked toward the window. With a good stab, he drove the blade deep into the neck of the walker, and pulled him inside of the house. Planting his heel on its neck, he twisted the knife throw its eye socket, and then quickly switched it into the second which was coming through the window itself. Turning his head to Raine, Joey let the blood seep down and off onto the floor. "I think we should get outside, draw them away from the house altogether, were sitting ducts in here,"
Moving to the floor door, Joey had kicked it open, knocking away several more infected and allow them to get out of the house easily. He wasnt sure what Lisa had planned on doing, but if she was going to help, he only hoped that she stayed safe and didnt fire off any shots. The more noise the more infected, the more infected, the more exausted he will be. Which in turn meant he would have his guard down if Raine did get playful and turn her violence toward him. Whatever happened, he would fight until the infected were all gone on the street, and it would give them privacy. Four more infected went down by his blade, but they were closing in, and it wasnt making things any easier.

Raine cracked her neck as she watched Joey start his rampage. She pulled her gun from behind her back and put it on the bookshelf. She looked in the kitchen and grabbed two decent sized cutting knives. She kept one and handed the other one to Lisa, ''Be careful and try to stay out of my way.. '' Raine said smiling. It was like Raine already knew something was going to happen. Lisa nodded and took the knife, following Joey cautiously.
Raine took a deep breath and stepped outside. She watched as Joey killed a few more, while Lisa killed three. Out of the corner of her eye she saw one shuffling toward her. Raine took a few steps forward and noticed that it was following her. She turned around and waited until it was close enough and kicked its kneecap backwards, as it stumbled she stabbed it in the eye. She slowly made her way over to Joey and helped him clear away six more while Lisa did her best to lead them away from the house.
''Looks like its almost over..'' Raine said as she killed one more as it reached for Joey's shoulder.

The walkers had all been circling him, but he was on top of the situation because Lisa had already moved part of the hoard to the side of the house. As the infected started to gather up however, that was when Raine cleared them out in a quick attack. Using the space, Joey collected himself, and then wiped the sweat from his brown, feeling the sting. His heart was racing now, and using the handle of his knife, he acted with hand to hand now, making the most of his combat high. One, two combos, kicked, he never got a good workout like this in a good long time. Somewhere deep down inside, this is what made him happy, what he enjoyed, and by the looks of Raine its what she enjoyed too.
As Joey turned around to see the infected now almost completely gone, he knew that Raine would need to blow off her own steam, and he was ready for it. Looking over around the house, Joey seen that Lisa had her group under control, otherwise she wouldve called for help, even though she was out of sight. "I dont mean to keep score, Raine, but I think im winning as far as kill count goes."

Joey's statement was just enough to send Raine over the edge. She hated feeling like she wasn't doing as well as everyone else. Lisa was no where to be seen at the moment, so Raine took her chance while she had the advantage. She tossed her knife up in the air a few times catching the the blade in her fingers every time. ''You know, your mouth always gets you into trouble..''
She turned to face Joey and in one quick movement pushed him into the side of the house, slamming him hard into the bricks. She smiled slightly as he fell to the ground, but the smile lasted only a second as she watched him stand back up again. She tossed her knife blade first into the grass and motioned for Joey to retaliate.
''Come on hunnie, you know i love a challenge.''

After having the wind knocked out of him, Joey blacked out a few seconds, by Raine wasnt going to drop him that easily. When she picked him back up without any effort at all, he seen the knife in the ground in front of, and her taunting him from a distance. Slowly moving forward, he bent down to the knife and spoke. "Alright, I owe you this much after abandoning you before..." But while the words may have caught Raine offguard, Joey flicked the knife toward her with his wrist, and than ran at her with his own in the same motion.
The blade made impact, but was caught by Raine, who than countered his own stab with a cut to his arm, pushing him to the ground almost childlike with the bleeding wound. It hadnt severed any major veins, but the blood leaked through his sweater, and Joey held his arm and grit his teeth. "Persistance has been a trait of mime, but you know my other best? Being stubborn." Joey knew that he had zero chance of winning, nor did he want to even if he did. There was only one way to kill somebody superhuman, and that was to find another that was stronger, which he had planned. But tonight, Raine would win, Joey would give her what she wanted, and that was a good fight.
Joey waited for her to make a move, and when she finally rushed forward and planted her foot into his stomach, Joey sucked up the blow and grabbed her leg. With a downward twist and a kick to the heel, he managed to get her back to the ground, and than attempt to hold her down for as long as he could. "I know your gonna have to control yourself when Lisa sees us. Your little workout cant last forever, and I know you cant kill me because I know something you dont."

Raine struggled as Joey sat on top of her with her arms pinned to the ground. She always could have thrown him off, she had the ability to do so, but instead she decided to let him have his fun.. but only for a few minutes. ''You already told Lisa that I'm not normal, and if she tries to interfere then I'll kick the sh*t out of her too!'' After she spoke, it seemed as though Joey was about to respond, but Raine never gave him the chance as she brought her knee deep into his groin.
Raine stood up and watched as Joey curled up into a ball obviously in intense pain. She used this opportunity to quickly bring her foot into his side knocking him over again. After a few seconds, Joey was able to get to his knees and looked into Raine's eyes, she grabbed him by the shirt and lifted him to his feet. ''What could you possibly know that i don't?''

On the ground, the pain of the last attack surging into his stomach and legs now, Joey didnt have much of an option but to sit and take the beating. While laying on the ground, he reached into his pocket, and pulled out a small syringe, handing it tightly in his grasp and breathing heavily. Another kicked his side, knocking him onto his back now, giving Raine the complete advantage now. He didnt struggle to catch his breath, nor shout in anger, or beg for her to stop, because deep down inside he really believed that he deserved every bit of his punishment. That wasnt for him to decide, him of all people wasnt in the right state of mind to make that decision, nor did it even matter so long as he still held tightly onto the things left in this life.
When Joey was on his knees, he avoided eye contact with Raine, but was forced to stare at her when he was grabbed the front of his sweater, and raised into the air. Obviously, through the anger in Raines eyes, Joey knew that he had her attention, but he wouldnt spill. "Raine, you dont even know what your doing right now. You dont know why your doing it, and you dont have to do any of this. Ive tried to explain it to you before, but thats not going to work. I cant beat you, I never was able to, your far too strong for me to fight back anymore. But theres something you have to understand, something you wont be able to the more the anger gets to you. Jonathan isnt watching us anymore, Raine. I killed him, and-"
But before Joey could even finish what he was going to say, Lisa had came into view from the side of the house, and yelled out in mixed emotion. "Raine! Stop! You cant do this to him!" Taking advantage of the distraction, Joey uncapped the syringe, and drove it into Raines neck, injecting an entire two hundred and fifty MG of fluid. The feeling around his neck was still tight, but he hoped that it would take effect sooner than Raine was able to break his neck.

''Dammit!!'' Raine screamed out as Joey stabbed her in the neck with the needle. She heard Lisa screaming but paid her no mind as her grip on Joey's neck got tighter, then loose at the same time. She let his neck go as the liquid he injected into her began to take effect.
Raine fell to her knees and looked up at Joey as he dropped the needle. Lisa ran over to Raine but Joey pushed her away informing her not to get too close. Raine tried to speak, but found that it was impossible at the moment so she reached out and grabbed Joey's hand for a moment before falling completely to the ground and looking up at him. After a few seconds Joey found himself staring into the eyes of a woman he loved. Raine's eyes fluttered as if she was fighting sleep, but she wasn't tired. Lisa looked at Joey and then at Raine, ''Doesn't look like she can get up.. what the hell did you give her?''
