Once Barry began speaking again, Masters took interest. Listening closely, she pondered the idea, which she found rather ingenious. When she first mentioned the mercury-tipped rounds, which was something she'd only heard of -- never seen, she had been joking.
"Explosive bullets..." she said, intrigued. "Interesting... I like it," she grinned.
Barry had saluted her, then walked off without response.
Looking toward Inez, Masters spoke.
"I'm surprised he was serious, but I like the idea he's proposing. If you've got any of that stuff he mentioned, I'd gladly give youguys whatever tactical gear you need in exchange. Also, canned food and bottled water would be nice, if you're trading any."
~~~
Lisa retracted her arm, returning the can to her lap. Seeing how the lieutenant seemed confused about his statement, Lisa couldn't help but laugh aloud.
After a few seconds of silence, he began again, introducing himself by his first name.
"Okay," Lisa laughed. "Isaac, it is."
Inez squinted an eye but before she could respond the sounds of shuffling and rattling could be heard echoing through the back of the truck. She'd grimaced and nudged her father a bit.
"Uh well, I'll see what I can do... for now though, we have to get going. We're meeting some people in Stoneville in the morning and we've still got things to set up. We'll swing by later on tomorrow though, if you're still here, Colonel," Inez said suddenly. Her father closed the hatch and literally hopped into the driver side, starting up the engine.
Inez smiled and bowed a bit in respect. "Well, sorry for startling you folks, uh, goodbye!" she said abruptly, getting back into the truck. With that, the bright headlights flickered on and her father steered around the bus, moving further along down the road.
Sighing, she'd brushed a hand through her hair. That was close...[/i]
Lt. Chase smiled widely and nodded, opening up his soup can. Luckily it was one of those that hadn't required a can opener. Easy access. Dipping his spork in it, he took a bite before spitting it up.
"Urgh, sh*t... gross...creamed peas..." he gagged, spitting out and away from Lisa. He was a gentleman afterall.
"I know I shouldn't complain, but this is disgusting..."
The horse galloped to the camp, but as he arrived, Kidd was seeing the truck leave. It was as if he was just too late, but since the Convoy had been still in a calm state, there wasnt any problems he should be concerned about. Except for the monster he seen further down the path. But whatever is was just moved the opposite direction of he Convoys camp, so it hadnt been much of a worry. Still though, Kidd thought about it a lot, riding the horse toward the group of people standing around obviously disgruntled about the newcomer leaving. "I returning to convoy when seen truck, why leave so fastly?" Kidd didnt talk very much, for the obvious reason they he didnt learn how to speak any language well at a young age. He only learns from listening to others speak now.
Masters raised an eyebrow when she heard the rustling in the back of the freight container. She glanced over to Inez and opened her mouth to question, but the girl immediately began speaking, obviously avoiding the topic. Barely comprehending the words the girl was rushing out, Masters stood, confused. The girl's father leapt into the vehicle and Inez followed. Before the engine started, Masters heard a very audible groan from the back of the vehicle.
After the vehicle drove off, the boy on the horse galloped back to the group, asking why they left so quickly.
"It looks like they've got some live cargo..." Masters said, walking away from the group.
Lisa sat as Isaac opened his can of food. He dipped in and took a bite, obviously disgusted-- as his facial expression suggested. Lisa let out a short burst of laughter at Isaac's sour expression as he spit onto the ground behind them.
"You ready to take me up on my offer yet?" she prodded, raising an eyebrow as she smiled, choking back a giggle and holding the can out.
Isaac spit out once more before looking over at Lisa and sighing, dipping his spork in her can of backed beans. He'd taken very little out, he wasn't going to eat all of her dinner. Sticking that in his mouth, he'd chewed on it a bit before swallowing and smirking.
"I normally hate these too but they taste a helluva lot better than pea soup. Seriously, whoever picked this can up should be shot in the foot," he told her, squinting his eyes over in Michael's direction.
He glanced around the camp to see the others finishing up and wandering off, probably to sleep. It was getting late and they were probably going to be packing up and leaving in the morning so it was probably good to get up and get prepared for night watch.
Stretching out a bit, the Lieutenant grunted and scratched at the side of his head.
"Well, Nurse Lisa, I hate to leave you on such short notice, but I've got some guard duty to attend. We can carry on a conversation tomorrow or something," he told her, reassuringly.
Kidd would have went after the truck, but he knew that it wasnt worth it. Curiousity killed the cat, and he wasnt about to risk going off on his own. Finding such a large group like this convoy was nearly impossible, and one that had a good community established was even harder. The people here were all cooperative, and seemed to have a handle on the situation. People were now stationed up on the vehicles, obviously a nightwatch was starting to come into effect. Kidd didnt know anybody here at the convoy, nor did anybody know him, but they quickly let him in as one of their own without questioning him at all. It seemed a little strange, but he never stuck around long enough to get to know anybody. He always roamed, never stayed in the same place.
The horse moved through the small camp until it reached the end of the convoy, and a tall tree. Kidd jumped off, and then set up his own little tarp covering tent from the corner of one of the vehicles and the tree. He wouldnt stay in their personal space, but didnt want to outcast himself too much. Sticking out wasnt his goal, but it happened no matter where he ended up. It was the horse, his horse. Horseback had been a lost means of transportation even before the outbreak, but hes been riding for the last fifteen years. He even slept on horseback, while she took them ever so closer across the country. Settling down was going to be different this time, somehow he could just tell. These people seemed nice, but it was only a matter of time before they started to question him. They would be pretty foolish not to.
Masters returned to her place on top of the school bus to address the group.
"Alright, everyone," she spoke loudly. The camp was quiet enough to hear her without having to raise her voice. Everyone turned their heads, attentively. "Get some sleep," she continued. "We're packing up and getting a move on in the morning. We're heading for Stoneville at the crack of dawn."
She climbed off of the bus and walked around back. Climbing on the back bumper, Masters swung open the emergency door at the back of the bus. Inside, she extended the steel ramp that was used for loading heavy objects into the vehicle. She hopped off of the bumper and trotted over to her motorcycle. She rolled the bike around to the bus and pulled it up the ramp. Inside the bus, she stored it in the empty space where the final right-side seat would be. With the bike secure, she retracted the ramp back into the bus. Leaving the door open, Masters slid into her usual seat at the back of the bus, next to her bike.
She leaned against the window, sprawling her legs across the seat. Pulling her radio from her belt, she spoke into it.
"Chase, I want you to keep close watch. I haven't slept in two days and I'm beat. Let me know if there's a problem, I'm in the usual spot."
Dropping the radio in her lap, she took her rifle off of her shoulder and leaned it against the back of the seat infront of her. She tipped the visor of her cap down, shrouding her eyes and face, slowly drifting off to a light sleep.
~~~
Isaac's radio went off-- it was Col. Masters. He arose to his feet and told Lisa that he had to attend to his duties.
"Alright," Lisa told him. "I'm pretty tired, I think I'm gonna head back to the bus and sleep. See you tomorrow."
She smiled at him before he walked off.

"Right, will do, Colonel." he told the woman before looking at Lisa again with a smile. He nodded at her and bid her goodnight before moving along toward the edge of their make-shift camp. Things looked to be peaceful enough but when he'd noticed that the kid was back he'd wandered on over, looking at the lively horse with admiration. Gently stroking her nose, he'd glanced at the young man before him.
"So you're pretty new... where'd you come from and where did you get a living horse?'' he asked, chuckling. He was so young compared to most of their survivors and fairly unusual.

It was then that the man, somebody he seen around the Convoy for awhile now, came over to Kidd. The guy looked to be pretty military driven, at least as far as he acted, spoke, and how he was referred to. As he spoke out about his horse, Kidd didnt know exactly how to respond to it, but thought that it was probably best he answer the best he could. "Canada, sir, long time ago. Keeps me living, wont let her leaving my site, not at all. We seen Convoy, seen how you nice, all of you. Not much to trade, but we hunt. Best we living meal the animals than the demons, the meat would only spoil."
None of this was a lie, the animals were going extinct. But it was better for him and the other survivors hunt and eat on whats left alive so they can keep on living. Soon, all of the animals will be dead, it was only a matter of time. Living through one outbreak was already too much, they had only a handful of years left before nothing remained. "I am Farrow, but others call me Kidd. I am only young, but I know the way of the world we now live in."

Lisa took another bite, and came to the conclusion that she'd eaten enough. A young boy, probably about thirteen years old, sat across from her, on the other side of the camp fire. He didn't have anything in his hands, so he must have already finished eating. No doubt he could eat more, Lisa knew from experience that kids are like bottomless pits.
She stood up from her chair and walked over to the boy, who was sitting next to woman, probably his mother.
"Still hungry?" Lisa asked, smiling, kneeling down. "Here ya go," she told the boy, handing him the can. "I've had plenty. It's pork and beans, already heated up. Pretty good for old canned food, I'd say."
The boy thanked her, and Lisa walked off toward the school bus. The doors sat folded inward, inviting her in. Only a few people were on the bus, most were still eating or sitting around the camp fires. Lisa yawned as she lifed one of the blankets that passengers used for sleeping off of the dashboard, by the driver's seat. She maneuvered her way down the aisle, to the second-to-back seat, where she usually sat.
As she tried to enter the seat, she tripped over one of the supporting bars of the back of the seat infront of her.
~~~
Masters jolted awake, hearing the girl fall into the seat infront of her. She shrugged her hat off of her face and peered over the seat. The woman in pink had collapsed to the floor, infront of her seat.
"Whoa, you alright?" Masters asked, as the girl lifted herself into her seat.
"Yeah," Lisa grunted. "I'm okay, just a little clutsy." She looked up to see who was speaking to her, surprised to see the leader of the Convoy. "Oh, hello Colonel Masters. Sorry to wake you."
Masters chuckled. "It's fine, I wasn't really sleeping. Haven't really slept in two days, watching over this convoy is a full time job," she told the girl, jokingly.
"I bet," Lisa laughed. "Anyway, I'm Lisa," she said, extending her arm over the seat for a handshake.
Masters firmly shook the girl's hand.
"Try to get some sleep, the boys outside have got everything under control, we're all fine" Lisa told Masters, jokingly.
Masters flashed the girl a quick smile before laying her cap back over her face and closing her eyes.
Lisa unfolded the blanket that she'd taken and draped it over her legs, kicking off her shoes to the floor. She leaned her head against the window and shut her eyes. It wasn't long before both women drifted off to sleep.
Lieutenant Chase had listened to Kidd intentively, nodding as he spoke. He felt a little saddened by the young man's lack of speech skills. He didn't look too bothered by the way he talked, that and he was still damn intelligent, so that was all that mattered. He'd looked at the horse as she's began chewing on his vest a little. She was obviously hungry.
Chuckling he'd glanced at the young man with a grin. "Looks like she's hungry. You should prolly go feed her and get some shut eye. We've got things under control and if you need anything let me or the Colonel know. We'll do our best to help you out, son," he told him, politely. He had a good feeling about this kid. Reminded him of himself, actually.
Sitting down on his little mat lay in the roadside, Kidd responded to the man that spoke. It was good to know the came had a handful of Military oriented survivors in the convoy, good men and women who know how to fight, how to stay alive. Kidd always loved seeing the soldiers that pass by his home town years ago, they were always so professional looking. He dreamed to be soldier, but it just wasnt written in his song.
However, as the man walked away, he felt that it would be nessicary to tell him to warn the scouts about the monster from earlier. Kidd didnt know if it was going to return, but if it did, there could be some trouble. "Demons dwell, here in woodland even. I lay my eyes upon one no time ago, its eyes thirst for blood, color of and as a clear horizon. Tell your people to watch the trees, listen solely intent for demon sounds."
~~~6 Hours Later~~~[/color]
Masters opened her eyes to the blackness of the inside of her cap. With her right hand, she pulled it off of her face and sat up in her seat. Reaching her arms in the air, she stretched with a yawn. She scooted to the edge of her seat, putting her legs out in the aisle, yawning again. With a single motion, she placed her cap back on her head and adjusted it, before putting on her aviator shades.
Everything was silent, all except for a single bird chirping in the distance. It was rather eerie, Masters hadn't expected the Convoy to ever be as quiet as this. She peered down the aisle of the bus, nearly every seat was filled with snoozing survivors. The emergency exit in the back of the bus that was directly next to her seat remained wide open, a cold breeze flowing in.
She gazed down at her wrist watch-- 4:58AM. The sun had just begun to rise, but the forest was still mostly dark. Masters stood up in the aisle and hopped out of the bus, landing in the gravel outside with a crunch. She looked in all directions-- there was nobody in sight, which was rather odd, considering there should be at least one guard keeping watch. She looked to her right, out in the forest clearing that surrounded the long, paved two-lane road that passed by their camp site, and across to the next forested area over.
Suddenly, the trees and shrubbery at the opposite side of the road began rustling, audibly. Masters whipped her Type-17 pistol from its holster and aimed it forward, scoping out whatever might be posing a threat. Just as she had aimed the pistol, the rustling stopped and everything went silent again.
Masters quickly threw herself back into the bus, snatching her sniper rifle before returning back outside. She pointed the rifle at the trees and walked into the road, slowly approaching the other side. Everything remained silent.
Just as Master's reached the halfway point between both sides of the road, a red-eyed creature darted out of the bushes, straight for her. Masters fired her rifle a single time, unable to hit her target. The creature slammed into her and knocked her off of her feet, her rifle flying across the road and under the bus.
She gazed up at the creature before her, it was a man, but his eyes were glowing red, red as blood. She quickly drew her pistol from its holster again, and used the bandit shooting technique to fire an entire magazine in full auto in the direction of the man, though he seemed to dodge every bullet. With lack of time to reload, Masters leapt to her feet and drew the Kukri from her lower back, holding it to the side, prepared to fend off another attack.

Crawling along the road as low to the ground as possible, the creature heard the shots spray from the gun into the thin air above him. His eyes were closed tightly, unable to be seen in the darkness, but he could sense the survivors fear. It wasnt a natural feat, either. She had been accustomed to a variety of raw emotions, fears that once existed were all gone. But this one, being in front of a threat that was unseen, had been setting off senses in the air around her that told the creature she wasnt prepared for what came next, no matter how tightly and confidently she gripped the blade.
Rushing forward, the beast felt the knife drive into his side, but it grabbed both of the survivors arms to her sides, not giving any thought to the wound. Now opening up his eyes, it stared into its victims, its next meal. The lust for blood was uncontrollable, all it wanted to do was sink its teeth into her neck, rip it apart. But an urge to speak followed, as its true identity had came about. The voice of a man, and the figure of a living human outlining by the moon. "Forgive me... You wont recover from the pain im about to put you through..." Before the next moment could unfold the way he planned, the beast had been hit with two bullets, as he quickly rolling off of the woman and into the woods.

Masters and the beast charged at eachother, colliding in the center of the road. She swung the kukri with both hands, driving it into the creature's side, under his left arm. Unphased, the creature shoved her arms away and gripped her by the throat, lifting her slightly off of the ground. The kukri flew to the asphalt.
Masters could see the bloodlust in the creature's eyes. However, instead of going straight for the kill, it spoke softly into her ear. As it spoke, Masters watched as Lt. Chase appeared from behind the school bus, aiming his weapon. Before the creature could take a bite, two bullets slammed into the back of the it, while Masters simultaneously rammed her fist into its face as hard as she could.
The man dropped her to the asphalt, then sprinted off into the woods.
