The B.O.W. as it turned out was nothing to write home about. In fact it went down rather quickly when the two combined their fire on it, something which Alyssa was pleased with. She didn't recognize the B.O.W. from any reports she had read, probably a new mutation rather than anything that had been 'produced' so to speak. She didn't pay it much mind other than snapping off one final shot into it's head before turning to the man.
She accepted the assault rifle, and recognized the model instantly. It was an HK-417! How the hell did he get his hands on this? She didn't ask though, he'd probably forgotten. And she was too disturbed by his fatalism to want to get too chatty with him. He seemed resigned to his fate. And for a moment she considered leaving him to it...but now. She'd seen too many people die for her liking, and if she could prevent just one more, maybe she could sleep a little better at night. She shook her head firmly.

[Somewhere over the Arklay Outskirts] The chopper flew above the trees, high in the sky, toward Raccoon City. It wasnt flying very fast, almost as if it was seraching for something. Arc scanned from the side window of the aircraft, he picked up someone along the road, coming from the city. As much as he would like to pick up passengers, today was his unlucky day. But, the man was flailing his arms, making it morally harder for them to stop. "Come on, lets fly lower... We cant just leave him... Its not our job, but screw orders!" The chopper flew lower, and then Arc got a clear vision of the man, and he looked oddly famillier. Then grinning with delight and excitement, he turned back to his baggage for the radio. But before they could do anything, the lights came on in the front, signalling they needed to refule. "Im pulling away, we cant pick up anymore weight... We need to refule... " Arc understood, and sat back down in the seat, setting a frequency on the radio, and then facing the speaker...
~~~~~~~~~~
Richard looked at the woman shake her head, and then step closer, letting him know that he didnt have to leave. Something was strange about her, and he hadnt even picked up on it until now. The whole time he had been here, the woman hadnt said a word. Richard had seen shy people, but she didnt even look the type, there was too much energy in her eyes. She couldnt speak, for one reason or another, and finding out would be a lot harder then simply asking. "...Hey now, you sure you dont mind me around?" Well, kid... Yo- Richard was about to ask something, but then there was a loud staticy voice coming from his side. Instantly shooting his hand toward his radio, he picked it up, and responded to the incoming voice.
"Arc, is that you? Come in, Arc!" It was his voice, but most of the words were scrambled, probably interference from the building. But he could make out directions of some kind, the location of someone famillier. Richard wondered who he could be talking about, it couldnt just go ignored. Before he could respond, the radio cut out, and it was all silent. There was only one thing he could do, find out who it was the man was talking about. But the directions were unclear, all they knew is they were in the outskirts. Only time could tell when they would meet up. "You hear that? Looks like were gonna have to keep out eyes open... Mmm... You got a name, Miss?" Richard spoke to the younger female, who was strapping up the assault rifle.
Alyssa hadn't noticed the man was carrying a radio and when it went off it had surprised her, even making her jump a little bit in her place. But she quickly recognized the noise for what it was and felt a little stupid afterward for acting the way she did to that one little noise. She listened in on the garbled report from the walky-talky intently, but couldn't really make out anything from her position.
But apparently the man had heard enough and he said they'd have to keep her eyes open. She wasn't sure what for, of course but that was all she really needed to know for now she guessed. When he asked her name, she simply smiled and pulled out her DHS badge and pointed to it, her name in particular.
Richard looked at the badge as the womans arm extended, and indexed to a name. He read to himself "Alyssa Evarhart", and then looked around at first glance. Seeing the bold DHS printed on it, he nodded his head in confirmation that he got the name. "Well... Alyssa... If your suspecting terrorism, then im losing faith in the system..." Richard has been around for a long time, but he hasnt had much educational expience other then fighting a war for freedom and rights. The DHS was something relitivly new to him, and all he associated it with was Anti-Terrorism. That was a popular word these day, but he had to understand that whatever the excuse, it was nice to see proper action being taken.
"Ah, sorry kid... Guess im just not in tune with the new world, im just an old man fighting to stay alive. These crazies are just making that harder on my health! Hah!" Richard grinned at his own joke, but knew it wasnt the time. He was curious as to why they would send in Homeland Security to a place like Raccoon City during the outbreak warzone. It wasnt that the woman, Alyssa, wouldnt be able to handle herself, in no way was he sexist. But she was no soldier, faceing the facts was hard, but the fact that she was so young meant that there was no way shes spent any time on a real battlefield. But what was real? Monsters arent real, they dont live in your closet. They walk your streets, and slaughter your loved one.
There was no "reality" anymore, or at least not what we used to think of it. Alyssa had probably seen the same horrors as everybody else, even in her short stay in Raccoon City. But Richard was in no place to judge people, there was no telling wether or not she had been involved with the outbreak of 1998 or not. But that was irrelivant. What mattered was they were here, and they should focus on the now. Richard walked toward the stairs, but then looked back at Alyssa. "Im sure your here for a reason... Ill help you finish up, but then we should make tracks. All this gun... Its bound to give our possition away, they knew were here... I for one dont wanna be cornered in a place like this. Now, you got the firepower. So you lead, I follow, sound good?"
Alyssa ignored the crack about terrorism. For one thing, it was good that the man still retained a sense of humor, especially after all of these years. That kind of thing could keep you sane in an insane world. And for two, she never got offended easily when it came to stupid jokes, so it didn't bother her any. She sighed and checked the assault rifle over once and clicked off the safety while listing to the man.
She nodded in agreement. It was always good to keep moving. And so with the new leadership role, she motioned for him to follow her down the catwalk.
Richard nodded to Alyssa as she moved on forward down the catwalk across the water entrance tunnel. As he made sure to stick close, he stopped every now and then to look inside of the water over the railing. He was very hesitent on wether the silence would contenue or be broken before they knew it. It was almost as if the water was begging for movement, the river upstream mustve been backed up by something, so the waterflow was now calm. Richard stopped and looked over the railing nearing the end, and then saw some ripple forming near the surface, as he kept a close eye on it while he moved along behind Alyssa. But suddonly, there was a loud crash of water, and before he could turn around, there was a creature between him and her.
At first glance it scared him half to death, sneaking up on and old man like that was definity not in the book, but its not like the BOW's knew that personally. Catching his guard, Richard backed up, and then quickly struck forward with a kick when the beast lunged forward. The block knocked it face first onto the catwalk, shaking it back and fourth as it suspended above the water with a series of thick chains and cables. Aiming his handgun toward the downed creature, he hesitated on fireing, wasting small 9mm rounds on the BOW's thick skin would be a waste. As he say that Alyssa had made it off the catwalk and onto the solid platform, Richard then had an idea. Seeing the BOW get up, he knew that the assault rifle would be pretty useful, but then more came from the water, complicating the situation.
"Get to the entrance! Dont try to fight them all!" Richard turned and ran across the catalk toward the opposite platform, and then glanced back to see one of the creatures on his tail. But as he neared closer, a double tap with the AR from Alyssa quickly stunned the creature before it could attack, giving Richard more time. As he saw her take the fight toward the entrance, he focused on the now two of them approaching him. Looking at the second floor above him, a catwalk suspended above this one, about twenty feet up. Richard leaned over the railing, and fired a round into one of the chains on the top suspension catwalk, and then saw it snap and begin to come crashing down.
Just moving out of the way, the solid metal smashed one of the BOW into the water, with enough force that it sprayed blood onto the steel. As the next approached, he knew pulling off another move like that would be stupid, as it would then fall on himself, so he was forced to flee back to the platform and take the long way around. Running as fast as his old bones could carry him, Richard was easily caught up by the BOW, which was now ready to strike. He turned around, and unloaded a few rounds into its head, neck, and torso area, and saw it get stunned. But as it quickly recovered, his heart raced and told him to run. So thats what he did, up the set of stairs, and then to the top catwalk.
Nearing the end of the top suspension, he saw the gap where he had shot down, and it created a slide towards the front entrance now. But he was feeling lucky, and sprinted toward the gap, and then jumping forward with enough spring to hopefully clear it. As he hit the bottem, he rolled onto the concrete slab, and lay on his back. Peeking to his right at the approaching BOW, he aimed with one hand, and unloaded the clip into the fiend, seeing it fall after the last round was spent. His vision went a but blurry, but he was far from passing out. Inconveintly, he just needed to rest, which wasnt a good idea on the floor of a Plant swarming with BOW. Breathing heavily, he saw Alyssa nearing him, and then lifted up his arm toward her. "Little help, if you wouldnt mind...?"
They made their way, silently over the catwalk suspended over the water entrance tunnel. Alyssa couldn't help but glance down at the water every so often. It might have seemed stupid once but now she couldn't help but expect a giant shark or something to thrash out of the water and drag the entire catwalk, not to mention her self and Richard down along with it. She had actually heard reports of sharks mutated by the T-Virus, so it didn't seem that unlikely.
And when she heard the splash of water, she thought her prediction had come true. She wheeled around to see a sleek-looking B.O.W. standing there between her self and Richard. She was about to unsling her rifle when Richard boldly kicked it onto it's face. She was glad she had held off, she was just seconds away from giving Richard a bad case of lead poisoning.
As more emerged from the water, Alyssa made her way off the catwalk and onto a solid platform. Though a couple were after her, she managed to cover Richard by taking one of the creatures out with a double tap from her Assault Rifle. She then continued to make for the entrance via her own path, hoping she'd meet Richard there.
She came to a sliding stop and wheeled around, mowing down the BOWs that had decided to follow her with precise center-mass shots. She then continued to make her way to the entrance, where apparently after a bunch of gun-slinging and high flying tricks that didn't really suit a man of his age, Richard was waiting for her. She reached down to help him up.
After reaching his feet, Richard crouched down and panted, breathing heavily and rasply. He forgot how old he really was, it was pretty foolish doing something that dangerous, but at least it was over. It wouldnt happen again, he had reached the limits for the week. After catching his breath, Richard cleared his throat, and then looked up at Alyssa. "*huff huff* Thanks.. A ton... You can... Take the next one!" He turned back to look at the dead creatures on the ground, he hadnt fought those things in a very long time. Finally contenueing a normal breathing pattern now, Richard turned back to Alyssa and nodded. Motioning that he was going out, he walked toward the front doors, and flung them open.
Looking over his shoulder to see if girlie was following, Richard saw he make her way outside. Ejecting the clip from his handgun, he then took out a box, and popped a handful of rounds into his pocket, closing the box and storing it back in his pouch after getting the ammo, he filled the magazine, and then left the remaining bullets in his pocket, zipping it up. Then sliding it back into place, Richard readied the gun, and scanned the area slowely. After he had the feeling that it was safer to drop aim, Richard turned to Alyssa, and then spoke out. "Whatya say we head toward Raccoon City? See what we can dig up... Im curious to see how bad things really are..." Richard knew it was bad, but he only went by photos from across sea. The real thing was always scarier.
Alyssa shook her head. Heading toward more danger? Maybe this guy didn't have all of his marbles after all. She had seen enough of Raccoon city after just a few days. She wanted to go back somewhere with running water, somewhere she didn't have to sleep with one eye open every night. Somewhere she didn't have to scower dark pantries for cans of cold beans...
Instead, she motioned toward the city limits with her assault rifle and began to walk.
Pulling up the 4x4 truck next to the fence leading up toward the Water Treatment Plant. Danica had the goal intent that she was going to play hero for the city, and filter its water supply, also in hopes of making sure the place is free of infected to people themselves could be in control of it if they found the need to travel. As the vehicle came to a halt, she turned off the engine, and than switched to the next song on her iPod. But as she got out of the truck, she grabbed the shotgun from the the back and moved toward the gate, aiming it around to make sure there wasnt any infected near by. Finally standing in front of the locked fenced in gate, Danica wondered if it was going to break down if she hit it with the truck with enough speed, but also if she would have enough time to stop before hitting the building itself.
Getting back inside the truck, Danica backed up down the unblocked street, and than waited a second before gunning forward toward the building. Whipping on the breaks, she slid, and parked the truck just a few inches in front of the brick wall surrounding the place. Sighing in reliefe, Danica exited then truck with her shotgun, and than ran toward the front of the building. But as she approached it from around the corner, she an infected laying directly in front of the main doors. It could be that the infected would jump up and bit her, so instead she approached it slowly with her crowbar, than finally hearing the awakening moan, drive it into the infecteds eye socket. As it screamed for a second before dying, Danica quickly removed it from its head, and shook off the nastys. But suddenly, she heard a noise coming from street, which she assumed to be more of the infected.
Alex strolled down the street, casually swinging his bat, and whistling a song that one of his foster mothers had taught him. He didn't have any particular destination in mind. A place to get some food and to sleep for the night would be good though. It had been a good day so far. He hadn't run into any of those creatures, well, directly anyway. The ones that he had noticed nearby he was able to sneak quietly around undetected. 'I suppose its a good thing I can sneak around so well' He thought to himself with a chuckle.
As he was walking, he heard a loud crash, and the sound of a chain link fence hitting the ground. Wondering if someone had crashed, Alex began to walk in the direction, to check if anyone was hurt and in need of assistance. Turning the corner, he came upon the water treatment plant. There was an empty truck parked in front of the building. The skid marks leading from the street to the vehicle proved that it was the source of the crash. Alex walked closer cautiously. When he reached the fence, he called out.
"Hey is anyone there? Are you okay?"
Hearing a little girls voice, Danica swing around her shotgun towards the noise even more now, but not a few seconds later, realizing that it was a teenage boys voice. Moving the shotgun down a little bit now, and at least taking her finger off trigger, Danica stared out into the dark street with no real light source to guide here, not really believing the voice, wondering if it might have just been a trap. Ducking behind a car near the broken fence, she still kept the shotgun in hand, and than peeked out slightly to see if the figure would be more distinguishable. "Fine, did the infected follow you?"
Alex received a curt response and raised his eyebrows. With a shrug he called out,
"Um, I don't think so, I mean I haven't seen any." Alex grinned to himself. "I'm pretty good at sneaking around, which is a good thing, since I'm not much of a fighter." Alex's smile faltered for a moment as he looked around. He couldn't tell where the voice had come from. Taking a few more steps towards the truck, he looked in side, but it was empty. Turning around he surveyed the area again, but saw nobody nearby.
"Hey, uh, where are you?" He called out. Remembering his manners he added an afterthought. "Oh, mine name's Alex by the way!"
Raising up from her position, Danica realized the survivor hadnt been tricking her at all, he was really a little more innocent than she first predicted. Relinguishing the shotgun back to her side, she then spoke out in a more friend, but equally as professional tone, finally deciding it was best to mute her iPod. "Good, I didnt have any follow me here, either. Should be pretty safe, considering the whole area is fenced off. Unless somebody was trying to keep something locked on the inside." Danica assumed the new survivor had the same intentions in her own mind, as it would explain why he was here in the first place. Unless he just happen to be strolling by and hear the truck. Or maybe he followed it.
Without think too much about it anymore, Danica slung it on her shoulder, and than lifted the legs of the infected corpse off the ground, dragging it down the steps and out of the way from future survivors. But it was taking her a little more effort than her lady like build could handle. "Gimme a hand with this body so we can get inside, will ya?"
Alex blinked a few times while staring at the body. He really should have been used to seeing corpses by now, but there was still something wrong with people being so casual about it.
"Um, yeah sure." Alex finally managed to get out as he walked over to where the woman was pulling the corpse. Bending down, Alex grabbed one of it's other legs, not wanting to get to close to the head, and helped to drag it away from the building. "So," Alex began with a grunt. "What's your name, and what're ya doin here anyway? It sounded like you crashed."
