Trenton grimaced at Alex's suggestion, but he knew wht had to be done. "Mia, please turn around." he asked, drawing his Ka-Bar and wiping it on his pant leg. From what he could see, the stalk itself wasn't in very deep, but pulling it out may cause it to splinter and there was no telling how much of it needed to be in for the body to still be in danger. Trenton pulls out two rubber gloves and puts them on. "Take some pain meds, but since we can't risk you not being in complete control, this is gonna hurt." he says laying Alex as flat on his back as he can, examining the burrow marks and placing the tip of the knife just above the mark. "Before I start, hand me a vial, who knows when we'll have another opprotunity to gather a living sample."

Mia looked at Trenton as he pulled out his knife and laid Alex on his back. She felt her heart sink a bit as she looked at Trenton preparing to cut into her brother. She nodded slightly as he told her to turn around. Doing as she was asked she took to looking up the hall and trying to bide her time with looking at the boring walls. Her mind was wondering as she was staring at the walls, but managed to catch something out of the corner of her eye. She looked back down the hall toward a door that was closed just a minute ago. She knew that because it was the way they had come up the hall.
She wanted to say something, but she knew that both Trenton and Alex were rather busy at the moment. She carefully walked down the hall making sure that there were no creatures that were sneaking up on them. She edged to the door and looked inside. It was a rather large lab, and in the corner something was glowing brightly. She carefully walked in making sure to look around for anything hidding, but didn't see anyone. She carefully walked across the room not even hearing the door close behind her. She made her way to the glow only to find that it was a medium side fire.
"Who would start a fire in here," she mumbled to her self as she moved to find a fire exhtinguisher. As she moved away the fire seemed to grow even larger giving off a large amount of heat. She turned to look back at the fire as it spread along a chemicle that was spilt on the table, and as it touched others it seemed to grow even larger. Mia gave up on the fire and moved to the door. Once it engulfed the entire room the door would keep it from spreading anywhere else. Her mind wondered back to the sprinklers and wondered why they had not gone off yet. She quickly passed that aside as she reached for the door, and found that it wouldn't open.
"Hey," she cried as she pushed against the door. The black smoke quickly engulfing the room as the fire spread even larger. She coughed as she waved the smoke away from her face. She moved to the valve that would turn on the sprinkler system, but found that no matter how much she turned it nothing came out. She was growing frantic as she tried to look around for the fire extinguisher next, but it was no where in the room. Mia moved back to the door and tried to open it again, then started beating on it, and she tried calling out for help. Though as she did all she could do was cough heavily as the black smoke from the now large chemicle fire filled the room.
Mia stumbled away from the door as she clutched her chest, and covered her mouth as she continued to cough. Her lungs felt on fire as she continued to inhale the smoke. She collapsed to her knees, and then hit the floor. She could feel her eyes growing heavy as it was hard to breath, but as she laid on the ground she could feel the cool air from a small vent that was blowing into the room. Though it was providing a small amout of fresh air she could still feel herself growing even more tired until she passed out.

Trenton had just finished removing every splinter of the stalk he could find inside Alex's chest. Thankfully the stalk had remained largely intact and all of the splinters were long enough to be found without much digging. Trenton bandages Alex's chest and frowns. "Alex, this may have been just a surface cut, but we're gonna have to be more careful about this operation. We keep blowing stuff up and there may not be any survivors to pull out." As Trenton stands, he sets Alex against the wall, and turns to Mia...At least, he thought she was there, he'd been so busy trying not to hit something vital in Alex's chest he'd not been paying attention to her footsteps. Trenton looks around franticly, looking for any sign of her when he hears the faint thumping on the other end of a door...

With pain Alex sat up already bleeding through the bandage. He then saw him standing outside of a room. "Where's Mia?" He asked calmly. He then say a trail of smoke coming out of a crack near the cieling. He was instatly on his feet and rushing over. He tried to open the door but it was electronically locked. "This was no accident.. He locked us out." He then pointed to Trenton. "Find something to break this glass with." He looked over the control panel and spotted a way to extinguish the fire.
"MIA, Hold your breath!" He called out. After waiting a few seconds he hit the emergency ventalation. The vents instantly opened sucking all of the O2 out of the room, the oxygen taking the fire out through the vents. Once it was clear he looked to Trenton. "We got to bust this window in. She's in a vacume, we gotta get air back in there."

The loud report of the shotgun echos in the small hallway as one of the infected armed with a improvised slashing weapon is stopped in it's tracks, dropping down from the concentrated spread that hit it's torso. The Agent tries to pump the shotgun, however the other infected knocks the weapon away from him. The shiv impacts the soft armor carrier and sticks inside, the kevlar weave gripping it. The agent pulls and spins away from the infected in time to feel a round fly by his head, and to make the closer infected lose grip on the stabbing weapon.
A quick boot to the chest sends the infected backwards before Inman draws the knife mounted on the back of his rig. The blade is stabbed with the edge up, and point angled up into the chest cavity, before the agent pulls the blade up and out, the serrated edge and smooth edge making quick work. With the infect still struggling and the other taking poorly aimed pot shots Inman lifts the one he is grappling with up to take the bullets for him as he charges, slamming the infected into each other and a wall.
The agent withdraws the knife again and lets the infected fall to the floor, momentarily disabled, dashes to the dropped shotgun and starts sprinting away from the wall of leeches that had gotten to close for comfort during the fight. With a knife in one hand and a shotgun held by the barrel in the other, the man runs.

Trenton draws his USP and fires the remainder of the clip into the glass door. The shots suprise Trenton when they don't pass all the way through, but he takes in in stride as he backs up and charges into the glass. The pressure of the room mixed with Trenton's momentum doesn't so much shatter the glass, as crunch it slightly and knock the door off it's hinge in one severly cracked mass. Trenton doesn't have time to brace himself so he smacks against the ground clumsily. "What room is this?" he asks as he pushes himself up and brushes the few shards of plexiglass off....

Alex was quick to rush in to Mia's aid checking her over to make sure she was okay. "Nothing special, all labs have a failsafe. In case a fire breaks out the air is vacumed out of each room to preserve the research." He then pointed up. "This was one of the cancer rooms. Looks like an operation room to me." Helping Mia up he walked to where the fire was. "This doesn't belong though." When he caught a whif of the human hair that had been part of the kindling he rushed for the door and grabbed Mia as an infecfted jumped onto the surgical table, both arms on fire and a tougne that would Kiss jeleous.
Trenton, take point. I'll get it from the side." Keeping Mia behind him he sidestepped each time the creature got closer to exiting the lab. Looking the creature over he noticed the fire dripping down from a wound. Testing something he winged her on the shoulder and just as the blood came out it blazed up. "Careful you don't get it's blood on you." Taking out his rifle finally he couldn't imagine how this was possible.

Mia stumbled backwards as Alex kept himself between her and the creature. She looked toward the edge as they slowly made their way to the door. She was still coughing as they moved slowly. Her hand on her chest as she gasped for each breath trying her best to exchange the bad air she had inhaled for some good air. Her face and her cloths felt really hot from the heat that was once in the room, but in a way it felt rather nice considering that she was still cold regardless of the heat in the facility.
She stumbled over a chared box, and turned to look down at it when she spotted the red. Reaching down she pulled her hand back from it. The handle was hot, but she threw the thought away. "Alex," she called out as she pulled it up. "Look. would this work better against that thing," she asked holding up the fire extinguisher.

Trenton raises his rifle and zeroes in on the creatures head. "A flaming licker?!" he says a little louder than he should have. Even he knew he has shouted, but so far, this mission had been FUBAR since minute one and even though he was supposed to capture the scientist and take him into his own custody, he wasn't sure he'd make it far without Alex helping and Mia looking out. Trenton switches to thermal but the flames on the creatures body disturb the readings, making the entire creature look like a blaze on thermal. "I don't have a clean shot. he says a little calmer. They could try running, but since he smashed the door the thing could follow and this flaming nightmare near the natural gas lines would spell disaster for anyone who liked this facility at a comfortable 70 degrees.

Alex squinted his eyes. "A Licker?" He thought. The human was upright but Trenton was right, it had many chararistics of the legenday monster. "You know the motto. Put enough bullets into something..." Rolling behind a crate in the hallway he took cover and braced his rifle on it. Tracking it as it danced around wildly spreading fire he opened fire when it landed on his left foot. Alex was used to pistols but the rifle had the firepower the situation called for. He pegged it three times in the chest and then five int the shoulder causing the limb to fall off and flames to shoot from it's elbow. "Trenton. It has not leeches...try a kill shot"

Trenton backed up slowly, keeping his arm steady he fires a single round which grazes the creatures forehead and tears off it's ear, or at least the burning remnants of it's ear. Trenton readies for a second shot but the creature hops from table to table making a steady shot impossible. Trenton spends so much time focussing on getting a quick but accurate shot that he fails to notice how close the licker type creature has gotten before it swipes at him. Trentons rifle clatters across the ground, far from his reach even if he dove for it. Slightly panicked, Trenton draws his knife and USP, slashing at the creature to drive it back before pulling te trigger on his USP to hear the dreaded 'click' of a dry clip...

Alex sighed. Not the usual reaction but was all he could manage in reaction to Trentons situation. Finally sparked with an idea he lowered his backpack and began looking through the survivor equipment while hoping to God that Trenton hadn't slashed the creature or he would be badly burned. Finding what he was looking for he stood up with a wire cable in one hand and hookshot in the other. Walking up he began spinning the hook-shot before tossing it over the creatures shoulder. With a quick pull the spikes of the hookshot dug into it's shoulder. First he tugged hard getting the creature off Trenton. It then vocused on Alex and dashed for him. Alex retaliated in kind but instead of attacking he wrapped the chord around it's neck causing it to fall to the floor. Hopping up he threw the chord over a pipe and pulled on it until the creature was suspended. With the remaining chord he ties the things feet so it couldn't lash out. "Anyone have a camera?" He asked.

Trenton reloads his USP and spits at the licker. "You're helmet cam should have one." Trenton grumbles extinguishing the flames from his chest and knife. Inwardly, Trenton curses himself for not reloading his weapon after shooting the door. In all honesty Trenton was grateful Alex had saved him, but he was still curious. "I'd like to get a blood sample, then I'd also like to see if a bullet to this things head will suffice in killing it. For future encounters of course." Trenton walks over and picks up both a needle from the autopsy table and his rifle which had landed underneath it. "Thing can't be on fire on it's insides. Think exposure to oxygen?" Trenton says as he stabs the needle into the creatures side...

Alex nodded beginning to take pictures. "Since it wasn't active in the vacume I'm guessing his blood, sweat and whatnot only is flamable in an oxygen environment since we didn't see it while the vacume was activated. So getting a blood sample should be easy enough. I'd use gloves and poke through the skin using a buffer of some sort." He then looked at Mia. "You think you can handle that? I should stand watch, I don't want another one of those sneaking up on us." He then stopped and turned back. "But it set a trap. Even with the new virus' you don't see that level of intellegence while staying loyal to a hive leader." He then looked at Trenton. Shoot it in the head. I think That'll do the trick on these ones."

Mia nodded as she stepped around Alex. She pulled the pin from the extinguisher and held it up. Pulling the handle the white foam instantly covering half the room as she tried to aim for the creature. As she got the hang of it she covered the creature from head to toe until the extinguisher completly ran out. She threw it at the creature, and moved back behind Alex as they continued to make their way out of the room. She looked back at Trenton as he readied his weapon. "If your going to fire. Best do it now." she pointed out.
