Cameron heard Rissa's comment and he hoped for that as well. He peaked out the window, just after a huge shadow... then another. As he looked out, his heart dropped. Their prayers were answered all right... but it was answered in the worst way possible.
Cameron had heard of this happening, but he had never seen it, until now. The sound was coming from two of the horses that were not killed. But that didn't mean that they were undamaged. Both horses were wandering down the street, but they had bite marks and skin tears and lesions all over their bodies. their eyes were bloody and glazed over and black drool dripped from their mouths. They canted their head to the side, listening for sounds.
They were infected and if they were like the undead, any sound would set them off. Plus, they were going to be faster and a lot harder to outrun.
Cameron crept away from the door and rejoined Rissa. He put his finger to his lips to caution her to be quiet.
"There are 2 infected horses outside. We need to be careful until we start the truck. We won't be able to outrun them.

Two infected horses outside? Oh, that was definitely going to cause problems. She had never seen one before, and was almost tempted to look through the window to see them. But that would have been both dangerous and stupid. Right now they needed to focus on what they were going to do to escape. She had everything by the back door, they just needed to load everything and leave. While the front of the store had the horses looking for a meal, was there anything at the back? She didn't think there would be, but she couldn't tell for certain.
"Should we maybe cause a distraction down the road? Maybe give us some more time to get everything loads?"
She kept her voice as quiet as she could, barely above a whisper as they watched and waited.

"That's a good idea. I'll strip naked and run down the street covered in sugar. They won't be able to resist me then." A smile tugged at Cameron's face indicating that he was kidding. "Actually, here's what we will do. I'll go back upstairs with just my rifle. I'll use the stairs to get back to the roof. From there I'll make a distraction. As soon as you hear it, load the gear and try to start the truck." Cameron handed her the keys, but let his hand linger a bit in hers. A spark of energy went through his arm. "Then I'll use the ladder in the back to get into the truck."

Rissa smiled, and hugged him, whispering into his ear as she did.
"Come back to me Cameron. We have to grow old together and have many children."
As much as she didn't want to let go, she unwrapped herself from around his body, and crouched low, staying away from the windows and using the shelves to hide her movements. She got close to the door, and waited for Cameron to begin his distraction.

Cameron crouched down and went back up the stairs. At the office, he slowly looked out the window to see down to the truck. As luck would have it, it was still clear of anything dangerous. Leaving the throw blanket up, he crawled out and quickly climb the ladder back to top of the roof. As quietly as he could, he crept to the edge of the roof. He quickly looked around. Down the street, the ambush site that was on fire last night was out, due to the rain. Evidence of the explosion was still there though, in the form of blackened and burned wood.
The infected horses, which Cameron was glad to see that there were only 2 had come to a halt in the middle of the intersection. Cameron scanned the area with his rifle, scope, hoping to find a suitable distraction. He could have easily shot them both in the head, but that would pull the remaining undead back towards them. He hoped that there was something else.
As he looked around, his scope landed on the following letters.
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH STILL CREEK
They were black faded letters on a baby blue passenger van. Cameron was in luck. He had had several instances of draining gas from vans, so he knew where the gas tank was.
Sighting down the scope, he lined up his shot. Releasing his breath, he gently pulled the trigger. The blast was noticeable, but not as noticeable as the explosion of the church van. A fireball consumed the van and with a shriek of metal, it was incinerated. The horses, and the undead, ran as fast as they could to the noise.
Cameron ran to the back of the building and began to climb down. He bypassed the 2nd story window and went all the way down to the ground. He landed beside the truck.

The explosion was loud, even inside the shop. Rissa opened the. Ack door, not seeing anything dangerous and began loading the back of the truck. Cameron's arrival surprised her as she went back for the second and last load. She nearly yelped in surprise, but a aged to stop and give him a relieved smile before running and getting the last of the supplies, closing the door quietly behind her in case anyone else ever needed to stop there.
"You drive, I'll get this stowed."
She tossed the keys back to him and put the last of the items in the truck bed. She climbed into the passenger seat and waited for Cameron to get in and start the truck. It was time to leave Still Creek.

Cameron caught the keys from Rissa and tried to slide across the hood like Bo Duke on the Dukes of Hazard. Unfortunately, this was on a freshly waxed Charger, it was the hood of a rusty old truck. He got about halfway across and then tumbled to the ground.
Cameron jumped up in a flash and gave Rissa goofy grin. "I had to try", he said, as he jumped in the driver's seat. He put the key in the ignition and turned it.
Nothing but a cranking sound as the truck struggled to start. The smile left his face. He pumped the gas pedal and then tried again. The engine began to crank, faster and fast until it started. A puff of black smoke exited the tailpipe and Cameron revved the engine until the engine was running more smoothly.
"On to our honeymoon", he said, casting a glance and smile at Rissa. Shifting gears, he pulled out of the Pawn Store back alley. As he turned onto the main street, and headed out of Still Creek, toward his truck.
"Keep an eye on the rear, just to see if those horses have followed us, Honey." He patted her on the leg and then gave his full attention to driving. The storm the night before made some of the road, a little sloppy and he didn't want to get stuck this close to town.

Rissa smiled as she looked out the dirty back window of the truck, blushing a little at the thought of him calling her honey. She liked that, and it gave her a tingling sensation in the pit of her stomach as she watched for anything dead and hungry coming after them.
"We're clear. How much gas do we have? Will we be able to get far if we have to keep going?"

Oh yeah thought Cameron as he looked down. In the hurry, he hadn't even looked at the gas gauge. Now, he looked down, tensing up about what he was going to see. The gauge read 3/4 full and Cameron relaxed. So far he had made it out of Still Creek with a truck, no Branded and a wife to boot.
"We have enough to get to my truck and then get to Vegas. I figure we will just unload everything to this truck and haul ass. If I need the car, I can come back and get it."
As they rounded the turn, his SUV came into view. It was covered in mud, but the windows were intact and it seemed like it wasn't messed with. Cameron slowed and looked at the ground. No footprints. Of course they could have been washed away in the storm, but it was a good sign.
Cameron pulled the truck up on the road and back it up to the suv, and left it running. He didn't want to get stuck with two vehicles that wouldn't be running. Putting it in park, he jumped out and went to the back of his truck. It was packed with preserved food, a few more weapons, camping gear, a metal briefcase and a large amount of ammo. It was all wrapped in another tarp and he drug it over to the bed of the truck.
"Go to the front seat and grab Boba Fett."
His most prized possession is an original Boba Fett action figure still in its package. It could be the only one left in the world. Cameron kept moving stuff from his old vehicle to the new one. He grabbed his clothes and tossed them in back.
Feeling higher than the moon, he jumped down and grabbed Rissa and pulled her into a tight embraced and kissed. It was turning into a wonderful day.

Rissa didn't know why this was so important to Cameron, but she did as she was asked and grabbed the small action figure from the front desk. Seeing the bounty of equipment made her smile, and his passionate kiss made her see stars. She could stay like this all day, but they needed to get going before anything else noticed hey we're here.
"Let's go Cameron. I want to get to Vegas and find a church."

As they cleaned out his truck, Cameron shut the tailgate and locked his car. He knew that it would probably get trashed later, but he didn't think about that. They were off to Vegas!
He jumped back in the cab and slammed the door. Putting it in gear, he began to head down the winding road that led away from Still Creek. With luck, they would be in Vegas in a little over an hour. Check into a hotel, get cleaned up and get some good food. Then they could hit a chapel.
== Cameron and Rissa leave Still Creek and head into Vegas ==
OOC - I'll post a new post in Vegas in a few minutes
== GM POST ==
The old red truck drove off with Cameron and Rissa in it. The area became still for a few minutes, then the overgrown bushes and trees rustled. From both sides of the road, several men on horses stepped out from their hiding spots and approached Cameron's old truck. The leader, an overweight, though muscular man took out a crow bar and bashed in the window. He reached inside and unlocked the doors. The men scrambled over the car, trying to find anything of use, but most of it was old food wrappers. The leader reached into the glovebox and pulled out an insurance card and read the name.
Cameron Reed.
"Inform our men in the city that they will have visitors. I don't want them approached until we all get set. I want Rissa alive and that young man as well. Our code must be followed."
Other men nodded and as a group they turned away from the car and Still Creek. It would take them longer to get to Vegas, but they had men in Vegas. The Branded had branched out, one could say, and they were operating out of a Warehouse at the edge of Vegas, that was closest to their compound.
