The Dirt Path is a popular trail that lovers, hikers, and dog walkers chose to take. It’s a very scenic route, but never really traveled at night since the only source of light comes from the moon.

Barrett Brickers walked slowly down the path. Night was starting to settle in, and the darkness held it's share of vile creatures alive and dead. Barrett cautiously looked around, carefully examining everything around him. He didn't want to be surprised by one of those ones with the long tongues.
He found a small tree, small enough for his splitting axe to handle, and he started chopping. He could barely see, but he saw a dead fox next to the tree. He used his lighter and lit it up. The fire made enough of a light to help with visibility.
He started hacking away, stopping every few seconds to listen for noises. He swore everytime he stopped, since he usually wasn't so jumpy. He had been tried, he had been tested, and measured during the war. He should've been able to handle a few cracks and crunches.
He had been watching a scary movie awhile before, "The House of a Thousand Corpses." He just thought it was terribly ironic that that was the only movie he owned in his house. The only thing he would watch for his remaining years was what he was already living. A Horror Movie.
He laughed thinking about it, then went back to chopping. He had almost finished.

Somewhere in the night A long omnious howl cried out in the darkness, sounding near to Barrett Brickers....
There was....something different about it.... A Coyote maybe? A Wolf?
Then there was a sudden roar of thunder, and another and another. It was going to rain soon and in the distance, rain drops began to fall in the darkness, the sounds of water hitting leaves.

Barrett knocked down the tree, grabbing it and throwing it over his shoulder. "Goddamn forest...nowadays it juss ain't like it used to be." He walks with the small tree on his left shoulder and the axe in his right hand.
The howl had worried him. He hadn't heard that before, not even from wolves. It had a distinct ring to it, something he heard before, but he couldn't remember. He was sure it had to do with the kennel. That's what kept popping up in his mind.
"Dammit, look at me. Frettin' over some lil' coyote in the bushes. Almost home anyway..." Still holding his axe, he pulls out a cigarette from his pocket and puts it in his mouth just for comfort. "Can't wait to get home and watch reruns of the news..." He says with a sarcastic smile to himself as he continued walking.
Arriving back at his home, he walks inside to find it ravaged. Windows broken, tv thrown down, bookshelf ripped apart. He stood very still, then bolted for his car dropping the firewood.
A hunter came running out at him, but he was already driving away.
"Jesus...Well, guess it's time ta go find a new home...." He starts driving, heading down into the forest from a dirt path he found, and then heading out into Route 104. He would drive to the abandoned Raccoon City University, which he thought would have plenty of room.
((Barrett Brickers will be arriving at the University Gas Station.))

Kodi parted some foliage that was in the way of the path as he continued down the dirt trail. Ten minutes had passed since he entered the trail and not since has he found anyone around. Only the small chirps of crickets filled his ears, and the cold had already began to grip him uncomfortably. The only thing that kept Kodi's stress down was that the sun had still yet to set. The yellow horizon slowly started to dim little by little though; Kodi only had an hour at the most before the dark came. The path wasn't exactly long, but he hoped he would've got into town by now.
If only the bus hadn't crashed...
Kodi could've just stayed at the wreckage, but there were a couple of factors that went against it. First, the bus crashed because something broke in, meaning that whatever had did it was probably hostile. Second, Kodi had checked his watch down the road (many times, since it was a quirk of his) and was able to determine that it he had been knocked out for fifteen minutes since the bus crashed. Help would've came by then if anyone saw the smoke from the fire—no one did though—so it would be best if Kodi left as soon as possible. He would have to notify the police once he got to town though. The forest had a chance of burning down if the fire kept raging.
Most likely won't though. The bus pushed and knocked away lots of the foliage, and the fire wasn't exactly big. It'll most likely burn itself out before—
The sound of twigs snapping echoed behind Kodi.
Kodi raised his pistol and turned around simultaneously—
—but only the trail that led back to the bus stop was behind him.
Something was wrong, and as soon as Kodi figured it out, he was already sprinting down the trail as fast as he could, not daring to look back.
—unintentional sound; a mistake, a little one at that. Only things that make small errors while stalking are—
As if the punch line of a cruel joke, there was a a sharp bark and snarl behind him, accompanied with the tick-tack of claws. The sound was came from the general area where he began sprinting, so the animal was already behind him, running at top speed as well. It would only be a matter of time before the animal was in range to attack him.
He had no chance.
Kodi considered about turning around to fight the animal that was chasing him—
—until he saw a wooden structure up ahead down the path past the fog-filled air.
Forcing himself forward more with a burst of speed, he ran across about six meters of trail, before coming up the the front door. Kodi quickly grabbed the handle, threw open the door, and threw himself inside—
—at the same time, the tick-tack of claws stopped and there was a loud screech in the air, the source coming closer and closer.

[Anna, Richard and Arc have now entered the Dirt Path]
About an hour and a half later, Anna had already used some herbs Arc had in his medical kit. Richard's breathing wasn't as tense and it seemed he was either unconscious still or sleeping. Either way, he was breathing and seemed okay. Anna was satisfied.
As for herself, she was feeling a little better. Sleepy, but better. She pulled her wrist watch to her face to see if she could make out what time it was. Touching a button on the side of the frame, the watch lit up. It was 4 A.M.
Sighing, she looked back down at Richard again, checking on him and lightly stroking his head hoping to sooth the headache he'd be feeling once he woke up. As she did this, she glanced out of the window. It was dark all around, she could kinda make out trees and at one point a deer. She didn't really like being around dark places...especially in times like these. Wanting badly to just pass out and sleep a few hours, she rubbed at her eyes.
"Where the hell are we headed...." she said lowly, leaning her head back.

Arc drove the SUV down the Dirt Path at a constant speed, making sure to avoid as much bumps as he could. The vehicle would most certainly be able to handle the terrain, but Richards wound might not. As he neared closer to a clearning, he spoke softly to Anna. "Hold on..." Easing on the wheel, he turned off the path, and then drove into a smaller trail leading into another clearning away from public view. As he focused on the path, he turned the vehicle once more, bringing a medium sized building into the brightness of the highbeams. Turning the SUV off, he opned up the door, and then lightly closed it behind him. Opening up the back door, he grabbed a hold of Richards upper half, and then motioned for Anna to come around and grab the other side of him.
In cooperation, they both managed to get him inside of the building, where Arc layed him down on a single bed in the corner. The only thing that lit the place up was moonlight, and that wasnt enough to see exactly what was inside the place. Slowely walking to back of the building, he pulled a peice of string, which turned on a light that dangled from above them. Arc then walked at an assuring pace toward one of the many shelves, and grabbed a small surturing kit, tossing it to Anna. She caught it, and then looked up at him, but Arc cut her off from saying anything "...Dont mention it, just get Richard sewed up, ok?" Arc layed his SMG onto the table in the center of the room, and then took off his belt, tossing it beside the gun.
Laying out all of his things, Arc dropped all of his empty magazines. Walking over to another shelf, he grabbed a few different boxes, and tossed them onto the table. .45 rounds, 9mm rounds, and a box of different kinds of bullets. Opening up the boxes, he then grabbed all of his empty magazines and then filled them up, clipping each of them back onto belt, but leaving two of them beside the ammo. After putting his belt back on, he inserted the new clip into each of guns, and then put them back into their appropriate places. He felt just a tad bit heavier, but off to a fresh start, ready for whatever was throw at him. Looking back at Anna, he spoke out in a tired voice. "When your done with him, help yourself to the rest of this... Im just gonna go lay down..." Arc dropped himself against the wall in the corner, and then dropped his head down. He whispered to himself after taking a look at the time on watch. "...Bout twelve hours from now..."

Anna watched Arc walk off to rest, standing to her feet and making her way over to the front door. She looked over at another shelf and pushed her shoulder into it, barricading the door. She reached towards the exposed knob and locks, securing them. She then drew in a breath and looked back at Richard, sadly.
Opening the kit, Arc had given her, she pulled out a needle, some twine-like thread and a pair of tweezers. She removed the jacket from over Richard's torso and examined his wound.
Thank God you're unconscious for this...
She laid her equipment down on a smaller table, pulling out some anti-septic, gauzes and bandages. She didn't have anything to clean the wound with so she bit down on an old shirt she found, ripping a piece of it off. She sterilized it with the anti-septic before cleaning around the open wounds. She dabbed around the irritated skin and reached for the needle that soaked in the anti-bacterial liquid. Carefully threading the needle, she grabbed onto the loose skin and stuck the needle through.
Wincing, she carefully and slowly, stitched up his front half. That ate up about two hours. Looking down at her work, she smiled inwardly, knowing he'd be okay. Problem is she needed to finish his back. She looked over at where Arc was dozing off.
"Hey! Gimme a hand. We have to turn him around onto his back."
Arc immediately opened his eyes and yawned, groggily got onto his feet and shuffling toward the two. As he made his way there, Anna looked back down at Richard and lightly touched his cheek. "You're gonna be okay, Richard...Leave it to me.." she said lowly.
With that, Arc and Anna turned him over, making sure to lightly turn his head so he could breathe. Anna quickly went to work on his back now. After another hour or so, she had used long strips of bandages and ripped shirt shreds, to cover up his chest and back. She pulled her hand up to her mouth, yawning herself. She was exhausted, but someone needed to watch over them and she'd be damned if she'd let her guard down.
First thing in the morning, I should head off back to Kentucky...Yeah...I have to see my family..I'll take Richard with me...Arc can come if he wants. Then again he still has to find Jess. she thought to herself, folding Richard's black top and setting it aside. She looked down at his jacket and grabbed it, pulling it over Richard to keep him warm.
That should do it...
Anna took the time to make her way over to the shelf, going over the supplies. After reloading her shotgun and her .45, she stuffed a few magazines and some boxes of shells into her packs. She then zipped up her med kit and placed it in her back pack. Grabbing some more ammo, plus wondering why Arc had all this stuff in a safe house in the middle of nowhere, she stuffed Richard's packs.
Finally, Anna sat herself onto a chair and leaned her head back, looking out of a window with her shotgun in her lap. Her eyes closed momentarily...
So...tired...

Arc walked back to where he was sitting, and then looked at Anna resting herself in the chair. This place didnt have anything really, just all of the ammo and supplise he brought with him by chopper, and a nice private position on the mountainside near the dirt path. It was very quiet out here, absolutely no noise, and thats just the way he liked it. Pulling the string again to shut off the lights, Arc then dropped back against the wall in the corner, and then lowered his head back down. There was one beam of moonlight that shown through a crack in the wood, it gave him just enough light to see infront of him. Reaching into his back pocket, Arc pulled out hus little notebook, and opened it too one of the pages, reading it quietly before going to sleep... ~~~~~~~ Page 25 Augest 31st, 2005, Rio De Jeneiro, Brazil, 2:18, Sunrise
I didnt know what to do now. Once again, everyhting was going downhill. I guess all I could do was survive here in my house, and ride it out. I didnt have any conveint evacuation chopper awaiting to pick me up, nor any backup all together. All I had was my instincts and my weapons. I saw a peive of paper ontop of the couch, where Jeanu was laying. I picked it up, and took a read. It said that Jeanu left me all of his drug money to me, inside of my savings account. I was able to take it out of virtually any bank through my account. Millions in unmarked bills now lay in my possession. It made me think that it was all worth it now, all these years of service, all of this crap that was going now. It was all worth it. For the next few years, I spent my time blockading this house, and traviling back and fourth scouting for food. I had everything I needed to survive now, I could go along time off of what I had. But all I needed was contact with the rest of the world, I had to see the status of America, though more than likely apokolyptic.

Anna could hear Arc's mumbling. Not really interested, she brushed it off and opened her eyes. They travelled over to the window as she looked out. It would be morning in an hour or so. With that thought lingering, her stomach growled. "Ugh..."she grunted lowly, resting her hand on her stomach. She hadn't eaten in a day and a half. If she didn't eat anything soon,she'd get weak. She couldn't have that. Her lips curled into a frown as she looked back at Richard to check on him once more.
I should've went first...
"I should've...." she trailed off, her head leaning back again as she dozed off.

[Richard enters the Dirt Path clearing] [Dont worry, no introductions]
Rich paced down through the clearing, and then looked over the water at the sun beginning to shine. It mustve been at least ten or so, morning has finally come. His left began to hurt, he was a fairly athletic soldier, but his age always drags him down. Walking up past the clearning, he saw a building placed on the edge of the forest. He would have missed it if he hadnt come from the woods, it was away from public. As he approached the building, Rich saw the SUV parked outside, it didnt look like it was old and wrecked. Someone was driving within the last week, 24 hours even judging by the tire tracks.
Rich scanned the area around for any signs of movement with his Assault Rifle, making sure it was safe to enter. He approached the door, and then gave it a good shove to burst an entrance. But the door didnt open, it seemed to be locked from the inside, which meant someone was in there. He ran around to the side of the building, and then got into cover just around the corner, peeking out to see if anyone was at the door. He kept his rifle drawn, just incase they werent very friendly, or willing to let him in.
~~~~~~~
Arc instantly shot up, reaching for his SMG and running to the center of the room. He looked to see if Anna or Richard had gotten up, but they were still here. As he went for the door, he unlocked it, and then pulled it open. Aiming around, the only thing he could see was the SUV, there was nobody in sight. But just to be on the safe side, he decided to walk around the building. Arc slowely walked around the front, but when he came to the corner, his SMG was knocked out of his hands. Quickly throwing a jab out, his attack was caught by two hand, and then slammed him into the ground. Looking back up, he saw an older looking man pointing an AR15 at him from above.
~~~~~~~
"Im just looking for a place to rest... Dont go getting all hostel on me, or ill have to put three rounds in your chest..." Rich wouldnt fire, he had the safety on, there wouldnt be any use coming from killing a surviver, especially someone as young. But then his gun was sent into the air from an upward kick, landing on the ground beside the mans SMG, away from them both. There was a pause them seemed to last longer then it actually did, but by the time anyone could speak, the men just thought and reacted. The both of them drew their sidearms, pointing them at eachothers head, fingers on the trigger.
~~~~~~~
Both Rich and Arc had stared into eachothers eyes for an instant, both with a look of respect for the quick thinking and defence of each of them. Then they had spoken at the same time, Rich in his old and rusty voice, Arc in his young, strong voice.
"Freeze!"
Anna sat on her chair, watching. She had woken up when she heard Arc unlocking the door. Clapping her hands, she smirked.
"I'm impressed. Okay enough of the dramatics, now then, who are you and what are you doing here? Oh and can you two boys try to play nice? There's enough trouble in the world as it is. I don't need you two splattering eachother's brains out..." she said, standing to her feet.
She cautiously reached over, putting her hands on the barrel of their guns. "I mean it. Stop. Or I'll force you two to stop...we have more of an urgent matter on our hands," she said, her voice venomous as she looked over at her unconscious friend. Looking back at the older man she raised an eyebrow.
"So you come in peace or are we going to have to kill you? I let another back-stabber slip away from us before. Who by the way is preparing to hunt us down," she said looking over at Arc.
"Would you guys shut up?" Richard muttered out, rolling over and sitting up. He had his hand on his chest and he groaned out. "Argh, my everything hurts and I don't need a bunch of people yelling near me."
Some Mexican standoff was going on between the past stranger and a new stranger. People seem to just pop up like crazy around Anna don't they?
"Anna, get over here. If they want to blow each other to hell for no reason then they can."
Anna quickly looked over into Richard's direction and smiled widely. "Hey you're awake!" she said, letting go of their guns and walking over. She knelt down and looked at his bandages. Spots of blood but it wasn't as bad as she thought it'd be. Looking back up at him she raised an eyebrow.
"How doesyour head feel? You sure whacked it good on some bricks."
Arc jumped up from the ground, and the put away his .45 along with grabbing his SMG and slinging it back around his neck. While he was at it, he picked up the mans Assault Rifle and passed it to him, just as he was putting his sidearm away. Arc looked at the old man, he had never seen fighting like that coming from someone his age, it was definitly different. He looked at him closer, and then introduced himself. "Arcian Griffin... Honor to meet you, sir..." Reaching out his hand to give him a friendly welcome, he waited for him to accept it.
~~~~~~~
Rich placed his hand in the young mans, and then accepted his greeting. It was almost like he knew him, but it wasnt very obvious, nor possible. But he knew this man Arcian was in the same ranks as he was. As Rich shook his hand, he spoke out in a rusty voice. "Sorry about that, soldier... Im afraid im a little rusty, but you gave me quite the workout." He didnt know exactly how to give out a name, it wasnt important, even thought Arcian respectfully gave out his own. "I wouldnt want to bother you, but..."
~~~~~~~
Arc let go of the mans hand, and then turned back to Anna as she ran inside of the building to see Richard, who was no awake and seemingly feeling much better. Arc looked back at the old man as he spoke, and then cut him off in speech. "Of course, come on in, Sir. Take anything you need..." He led the man inside of the building, and then motioned toward the table. Anyone who came from the same position he did, and made it even further then he did, was a friend no matter what. Arc walked back over to Anna and Richard, speaking to them both. "Looks like we all got some well needed rest..."
~~~~~~~
Rich nodded with thanks and then walked over toward the table, placing his Assault Rifle on top of it. One of the ammo here matched his, but he wasnt worrying much, as he had enough in his bag. After taking that off, he placed it on the table, and unzipped it, making inventory of all his ammunition and supplise. If they put everything together, their would be enough ammunition in the place to start a small war, but Rich had his own plans back in Raccoon City. Sitting down on the table, he sifted through his bag, making sure he had everything stocked up.
