Richard and company then began to follow the dirt path deeper into Arklay. It would eventually take them to antother trail off into the forest, and thats where they would skip over to his house. The path hadent changed much over the years, the same young trees have ground older, some have died away. But it was still just as beautiful as he remembered it. The dull sand of the east was a definite eyesore for someone who lived around the green forest.
Richard looked down at his side, and saw the radio. Remembering the he still had communications with Arcian, he hoped that everything was successful on his end. But at the same time, Richard wondered if the boy still had opportunity for him. If so, hed give it to Emily and the little girl, they would need it more then he would.

Emily continued down the path, following Rey and Richard since she had only been to Joey's house once and by mistake. Holding the shotgun steady in her hand, she rubbed at her face, pushing her sweaty, red, fringes out of her eyes.
The little girl beside her was stumbling, trying to keep up. Shewas alsorubbing ather eyes, though he reasons were simply because she was tired. Looking down at her, she lifted the child up, carrying her over to Rey.
"I need to be able to fire, so can you please hold onto her for me? Let her nap for awhile..." she requested. Rey smiled and tookthe child, Julie resting her cheek on Rey's shoulder.
Emily looked over her own shoulder, keeping her guard up. You never know what's lurking in this forest...

"Yeah... Of course..." Rey carried Julie, she wasnt able to use her gun now, but she wasnt even a good shot anyways. If anything happened, Richard would take over the situation in a heartbeat, anyways. Being on the path itself was about out in the open, it was easier to spot the infected if they come, when they come. But they would definitly have to break from the path once we get to the driveway. It was grown over, but could still be driven on if you know exactly where your going. One thing certainly changed, being in the forest certainly had its different infected then the desert. Richard was picking out animals and insects in his head that could possibly attack them now that they were in the woods, but he didnt hope it would be that much of a problem. Just then, there was a rustle in the treeline, on the ground. Richard aimed his sidearm toward the noise, and then saw a creature jump out at them. Obviously, he hadnt seen it before, but he knew they had to take it down fast. It looked like...

Emily reeled back, teeth clenched and fingers tightening around the shotgun. "What the hell?!" she cried out, taking aim. She looked back at the others, "How far are we from your father's Rey?" Emily asked, hoping it was close enough for them to evade the creature. She didn't want to waste ammo on something that really wasn't stalking them...
From what she could see, it was toppling over a body, picking and stabbing at it, inhaling pieces of it's flesh into it's mandibles. She backed away along with the rest of the group, motioning for them to get back farther. If it did decide to attack, she'd have the upper hand.

Rey looked at the trees, and then thought to herself. It was hard to concentrate with that huge bug in their way. "Uhh.. Umm.. Its about-" Her voice was cut off but small, single shot bursts from Richards assault rifle. He only took off about six, but they were slowely, making sure to it the thing in his underbelly each time. "Another mile, lets move!" He pointed.
As everyone ran back into the trail, Richard still kept his strafe, and fired off a few more slow shots. Just because it was a fully automaic rifle, didnt mean he had to be a madman. The military training taught him to make each shot count, it was just a matter of saving ammunition now, but where he could shoot the target successfully. After he was out of his magazine, he droped the gun to his side, and whipped out his 9mm, firing off three more shots. The creature dead, it wouldve followed them, and their wouldve been more with it. Richard ran back to the trail to try and meet up with the group.

Emily pumped her arms as she ran with along side Rey and Julie. Her eyes narrowed and her lips were curled into a scowl "God dammit! That was reckless!" she yelled out, keeping her eyes directed forward. Suddenly some eerily, familiar, howls descended over the group. Emily came to a stop, her feet sliding along the dirt as she did so.
She looked around, pulling the shotgun right back out. Around them, they could make out, beedy, red eyes staring at them from all around. This wasn't good. Not good at all. She growled a little and stood infront of the younger girls.
"Well this is just swell." she muttered. The thing started to run into view, exposing themselves as what they were. Undead mutts. The carniverous canines howled aloud, barking and running at them. They were surrounded so they couldn't just run away now. Emily cocked the shotgun and blasted two of the nearest ones away. This only sent them rolling back, then onto their feet again. She spun around and shot at another two that were approaching the girls.
Frustrated, the woman pushed Rey a little forward after clearing a path. She narrowed her eyes at the dogs and then glanced at Rey and Julie. "I see the house. Make a run for it. I'll watch your back! Just protect Julie and get to your father's! Now!" she ordered.
Rey nodded and started going on ahead through her newly cleared path. She hesitated at first, but she knew Emily was depending on her to get the little girl somewhere safe. One of the dogs persued after the two, but Emily ran forward, leaping infront of the thing and wrestling with it on the ground.
"Nngh! G-Get off!" she yelled, twisting it's head and snapping it's neck. There still were a few dogs running at her now. Luckily she saw Richard making his way toward her, picking a few of them off with a 9mm. "Oh thank God!"

Richard straffed quickly through the dirt path and the trees, picking off the dogs that came toward the others. It would be hard to kill them off from the distance, and he couldnt switch to the rifle as fast, but the handgun would slow them down long enough for Emily to finish the dogs off with the shotgun. By now, they seemed to have their eyes on Richard, which was pretty much a good thing for the simple fact Emily could get the others to safety.
"Get to the house, ill meet you there!"

Emily quickly reloaded her shotgun and cocked it back once more. She blasted through three dogs, managing to kill two of them. She looked back at the old man, worriedly. She couldn't just leave the poor guy out here alone....but then again, she had to protect Julie.
She looked back at where the other two ran off and quickly followed suit. She looked back to see the remainder of dogs barking and growling at Richard. Frowning, she looked back ahead and exited the Dirt Path in search for Julie and Rey.

*Click click* The handgun was out of ammo. Richard quickly jumped out of the way as one of the dogs leaped toward him. Landing on his side, he rolled onto his back, slipping another magazine into his gun, and jumped up. He ran from the dogs, but he wasnt as fast as he used to be. They quickly caught onto his tail. Looking back, Richard fired upon the three dogs, taking out one with a few shots.
As he moved back around, Richard saw a low tree branch, and jumped for it. Swinging his legs up, the two remaining dogs missed his feet by inches. Landing back down onto the ground behind them, he fired off more rounds while the dogs were outsmarted. After a good ten shots, they were motionless, as he jogged toward the direction Emily and the others ran.

)(OoC: Chrysil and Louis have entered from Tommy's Fish and Game Store.)(
"So your a jouranlist, huh? Must have a good reason to be in these parts, then."
Chrys' cheeks went firey, "Not anymore," she said while gripping the steering wheel tightly, "Being perfecly honest. I'm lost; and I'm running on fumes..." Her eyelids were heavy and her stomach growled, "Mmm..." Chrys held a hand to her stomach, "...I was supposed to get food back at the shop," she was suddenly very remorseful. Chrys flicked the fog lights on, snow falling; visibility was starting to deteriorate and it wouldn't be long until they couldn't see ten feet ahead of themselves.
"Im searching for a girl, early twentys. I think I know where she might be, theres a house in the woods, we can keep going east..."
Chrys perked a little, her stomach turned from the sick idea of dropping hope on Kaz completely for a new opportunity, but this was how she behaved; it was her nature. Albeit the world they were in was dictated by the undead, Chrys still put the indicator on to show she was turning right; it helped to maintain a sense of humanity... kept her sane.
Chrys felt the sedan become a little sluggish, curious as to what the commotion was; odometre and revs were fine, temperature gauge wasn't too low. Petrol...
"...Unless you have other plans, then, would you mind dropping me off close to the path...?"
"No need to worry," Chrys notioned just as the sedan began to putter and slow down, kicking a few times before cutting out completely and slowing to a stop, "... Close enough?" she asked looking over to Louis, the sedan stopped directly five metres from the dirt path. Chrysil turned the sedans headlights off and opened her door, popping the boot before getting out of her seat.
Chrys rounded to the back of the car and opened the back, rummaging through goods. Chances were everything were perishables ready for a picnic months ago, but if there were any decents bits or pieces of food she'd be more than happy.
"Mouldy sandwiches, rolls... grrch! tch! Sour soup... ffuh," Her legs were starting to wobble, "Tin..." of bakedbeans, she snatched it dangerously fast and nearly snapped the key off of it while tearing the lid open. Chrys knocked back a gulp and ground her teeth, sitting down in the boot; she looked up to Louis, "Sorry... I'll be finished up in a bit," she said, not meaning to be a hinderance. Chrys fished about more, found a bottle of water; looked good. Combined it and the bakedbeans, filled a hole.
Chrys pocketed the bottle of water, set the empty food tin down on the floor of the boot; mopped up any mess around her mouth.
She started down the dirt path, keeping in time with Louis; Chrys hoped her presence wasn't unwanted, "So. Tell me more about this girl who you're looking for,"

Louis stepped out of the rig once it had stopped, kind of laughing to himself at the vehicle that ceased to take them any further. He never relied on vehicles to get him around, it was always nice to save time driving them, but the moment you need one the most it doesnt work. The alternative was walking, in the thin show on the ground made it a bit of a cold trek, but it had to be done. Moving around the car to Chrys, Louis watched her dig through the back to find some food that was no good, getting a little frustrated. But that was understandable, food wasnt easy to come by, everything with an expiration date less then two months would be long gone.
While Chrys had been at the bar of the car, Louis was looking around the area, finding it a bit difficult to navigate while out in the openess of the dirt path. But it was a straight hike, wandering off of it even in this snowy weather would be a challenge itself. They could easily follow the path close enough to Joeys house, and then get off onto another when he was sure of the location.
After Chrys was finished, Louis heard the question spoke to him from behind. Turning around to see her all ready to move, he motioned his hand in a 'walk & talk' fasion. The two of them manuvered onto the dirt path, and began the walk. "A friend of them asked me to watch over his daughter for him, wether she wanted me to or not. It isnt easy keeping up, especially when you have your own business elseware, but I know she was last here in the Arklay Mountains. My friends house is deeper in the woods, off the dirt path. I think his daughter mightve gone back there. Her name is Rey, she might get along better with you then me..."

Chrysil was already on top of her questions filing them off in approrpriate areas of her mnemonic retention, "So, did Rey do something wrong that your friend wants you find her?" Chrys considered the situation, "How come she's returned to his house in the mountains? Sounds dangerous" Chrys jotted down notes, names, connections; Rey; Rey who? What was her family name? If this turned out to be a big scoop then Chrys' feelings for the loss of Kaz might be forgotten.
Chrys caught on to the end of Louis' final sentence, she might be able to help out, "I can do my best... any particular reason I'd have a better chance reasoning with her?" she asked, then thought, "Hang on, do you know Rey in person? How old is she?" Chrys held her tongue, the constant questions were probably starting to sound suspicious; she'd gotten so used to hanging around Kaz that starting a new case threw her into a frenzy. She needed to calm down, go over standard journalist operating procedure; something she'd made up herself, how to handle a scoop.
"I'll do my best," Chrys half repeated herself while following the path to the line.
Which was another thing that had struck her, the forest canopy had killed any moonlight that might have made it through the snow. All that remained as an eirie glow outlining patches of leaves and from the local flora surrounding them. Chrysil took out her flashlight, thought for a second, 'That might atract unwanted attention...' then went back over the idea 'Then again, it would be better than steppnig on something hostile,' she concluded and flicked it on, "Hope you don't mind the beam, but I can't see a thing Louis" she'd turn it off if he was uncomfortable with it.
Snowflakes floated downwards, those that weren't caught by the leaves; one thing the canopy did do was keep the heavy snow from falling on them. Chrysil saw a shine flicker, waving her flashlight around gently; she noticed it again and - while straining her ears - heared water too, they were close to a stream. The sound of water sounded so good in the intense silence; there must have been a hotspring further up the stream too if it was still running; further down stream probably had a thick layer of ice over the top of it. That might prove problematic if they had to cross it though.
The flashlights beam kept to the dirt path at their feet, Chrys kept in time with Louis so as not to cause a shadow to form on the path from him, "Y'know, I never enjoyed long walks to locations which I don't know the distance of," she started, "You'll have to remind me how far it is to your friends house,"

Louis would have lost it completely if it werent for her pretty face, just questions, questions, and more questions with this girl. But he kept to himself, and soaked in the words. It actually made him think about the situation, Chrys was a journalist after all. Seeing her write down notes was a bit intarrigative of her, but Louis could help but grin to himself without her noticing. After she turned on the flashlight, he could see the path all more clearly, it was a good idea. Seemed like such a taboo thing, but he didnt have a flashlight anymore, of all the thing he kept under his jacket.
Finally, he decided to answer some of these questions, it was for the better, more of a trust factor. But he wasnt exactly the good guy here, Chrys would have to catch onto that one herself. "Rey can take care of herself, daddy trained her well. This place hidden in the woods is a great safe haven for her, I find myself coming back here myself all the time..." This was true, Louis would come here whenever he was looking for Joey. But the reasons for him coming here was because they were like brothers. Brothers who were always at eachothers necks. Rey knew this, seeing Louis' face again wasnt the best idea, but he made a promise to Joey.
"...We have a history, lets leave it at that. I know her very well, think she must be in her early twenties by now. I not really sure of an exact age, to be honest..." Louis walked along with Chrys' pace, taking advantage of the flashlight guiding the way in front of him. As he spoke, he could hear the woman scribbling on the notepad, in between crunches of snow and twigs on the ground. Seeing a famillier tree, the one that had some chips missing from stray bullets, Louis knew they had about another mile to go up the path before cutting off into the forest. "...As for the distance, give or take another twenty minuts along the dirt path, then we cut through the woods for an hour..."
Just then, there was another string of footsteps further down the path. Louis put his arm infront of Chrys, letting her know to keep quiet. Nudging her arm to let her know to pass over the flashlight, Louis took a deep inhale breath, and then steadied the light forward. He could see a tall man standing still, kind of hunched over, facing the opposite direction. The narrow beam of light was the only thing that could be seen, everything else around them was pitch black. After handing the flashlight back to Chrys, Louis crept closer to the ban from behind, pulling out his .45 handgun. For the situation, he pulled out a used silencer, and fixed to the end of the barrel, and then drew it toward the back of the mans head.
Pulling the trigger, the silent ping dropped the body to the ground, but the flashlight jerked to the right side of the path. Looking at the beam change direction, Louis saw about six more infected standing along the treeline, and four more on the opposite side as the light switched angels. "Go go go go go!"

Chrysil had been taken aback from the factor of the age of Rey. From her interpretation of everything she had heard, she imagined Rey to be of adolescent age; young and quite stupid in rationalization. Instead she would be two years older than Chrys, perhaps moderately intelligent; most importantly old enough to remember the first outbreak as clear as crystal. Chrysil didn't know very many people who were born close to the beginning of the first outbreak, very much being a child of the apocalypse herself she always looked at these other people differently. Her intruige had been piqued.
Without realising she had gone off into day dreaming, Chrysil felt a nudge; she looked over to see Louis wanted the flashlight which she held out in offer. After a while Chrysil noticed what had Louis spooked; in her experience, from how the object wasn't moving meant that it hadn't noticed them. Which was a good thing. Chrysil had been keeping behind Louis, the only relative area of safety in her opinion; she remained rooted to the spot though as Louis chose to get closer to the carrier. A second later the carrier dropped dead, Chrys walked over to Louis and patted him on the shoulder in congratulations, "Good job," she notioned, looking up at him.
Louis look was gazed, out of curiousity Chrysil followed the direction of his attention to where the flashlight was illuminating. Her jaw dropped, 'Lots of carriers,' as before, she was now rooted to the spot; Louis had the liberty of illuminating other ends of the forest to show many silhouettes of zombies. Previously lit up zombies eyes glowed, just two dancing eye balls floating in the blackness. Like a start gun Chrysil started running as soon as Louis had shouted:
"Go go go go go!"
She held her arm up as she ran, ready to bowl over any infected on the path; The snowing had started to worsen and for several moments Chrysil had charged through a clearing feeling the full force of it. A wind had picked up through the trees causing the leaves to rustle endlessly. A though popped into her head, a bad one, "Louis, we may need to hurry to your friends place. With this many carriers in the local area then who knows what the status of it is,"
Chrysil felt her foot hit wood, her ears picked up that the water had become even more loud. She must have been crossing a bridge over the stream; maybe it had a hairpin bend several hundred metres to her left. This'd be a perfect buffer from the zombies, they'd be washed down stream if they even tried to cross, "C'mon! I have an idea!" Chrysil shouted while charging across the bridge, making it to the other end of the suspension.
Chrys waited for Louis to make it across, "Hope you don't mind, we'll just have to find another way back across when we start to leave or choose cross country in the other direction" Chrys started pulling at the rope, she wasn't a wiz at knots but she knew how to untangle things. It was heavy industrial stuff though and looked asif the bridge had gone up back in 2010 or something during the rebuilding. Carriers had started crossing the bridge slowly, others that went to cross the water itself were flushed downstream. Chrys finished one knot and moved onto the other side, the railing along the left handside flopped down leaving carriers exposed; any of them that were off balance at the time immediately toppled into the water, others who had a sense of grasp held on for life while still continuing towards the opposite bank, "Not for much longer," Chrysil breathed as she let the other not loose. The other hand rail fell loose and the entire Northern bank of the bridge gave way and dropped into the water, submerged, nothing would cross now. Chrys stood triumphantly, "Okay, let's keep moving," she said, nodding to Louis.

While the rope suspension bridge was being worked at by Chrys, Louis had his .45 trained on the oncoming infected, just to be safe if they did manage to get across before the bridge collapsed. But in almost an instant, it fell downward, as he grinned at the infected falling into the rocky waterway below them. But as quickly as it happened, he looked back at Chrys, and then ran for the nearest path north as they could reach. "Come on, its just a another quarter mile to the path."
As Louis began to run, he check behind him to make sure the girl had been following him close. He wasnt at all running at full speed, they needed to save energy for a deeper situation, and hold the flashlight steady enough to be of any use to them as well. But as he slowed down nearing the new path, Louis held the light forward, but passed it to Chrys. "You take it, and follow me close, alright? We need to be careful of our surroundings, and since I know my way around these woods fairly well, you need the light more then I do."
The glow illuminating from behind him was the only light source he needed, shining off the surface of the now thicker snow, creating a brighter walkway on the path. They just had to make it north, up the mountain a bit more, before crossing into the thicker wooded area in the Arklay Forest to Joeys home. Louis knew it was added to since the last outbreak, being paranoid was being safe. But if Rey wasnt there, he really didnt know where else to look.
