Firearms In Roleplay:
FAQ + Q&A
________________________________________________________________________
The mission of this thread is to make a collaborative effort with our fellow RERPG members to create a better, more realistic and immersive role-playing experience for the general site's population, in terms of firearms (and other weaponry). All members (staff, or otherwise) are welcome to propose inquiries-- and are also encouraged to provide insight to one another, provided he or she has knowledge to offer. We only ask that you do not share information that you, yourself, are unsure of-- as this could potentially cause conflict and confusion (the games of the Call of Duty franchise, or any other franchise, are not considered a valid source of information). Unsure of what type of weapon to give to your new character? Have a picture of a weapon, but unsure of what it's called? Confused on the mechanics and/or anatomy of a particular weapon? Request advice here!

Sample Question and Answer Scenario:
I am beginning a new character, who is an agent of the B.S.A.A., but I'm not sure what kind of weapons to give him. What kinds of rifle or handgun should I equip him with?
Perhaps he might be carry around an M4 Carbine, or an M16(A2/3/4) Rifle, alongside either a Glock 17 pistol, or maybe a Beretta M9?

General Rules of Thumb:
1.) -Bigger is not always better, contrary to popular belief, influenced by action movies and shooter video games!
2.) -Caliber is key! Different calibers have different magnitudes of effectiveness in different situations!
3.) -Gimmicks are okay on occasion, and within reason! Don't feel ashamed for wanting your hulking badass to carry a large weapon! This gives your character depth, and can be a good thing, provided you fully understand the pros and cons of using an unnecessarily powerful weapon!
4.) -Stay informed! Do not be afraid to ask questions (no question is a silly question here)!
Frequently Asked Questions:
1.) Can civilian characters carry military weaponry?
Yes, there are a number of ways for civilian characters to come across military weaponry. They could have acquired said military weapon via a corpse, a military vehicle, a military checkpoint or armory, and many many more different methods. Use your imagination-- be creative!
2.) What types of weaponry should my character realistically carry?
This heavily depends on the occupation of the character.
Civilians: Handguns, Shotguns, Rifles
Military: Battle Rifles, Assault Rifles/Carbines, Submachine Guns, Light Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles
However, this is not a set rule. As mentioned in the rule above, even civilian characters can possess military weapons.
3.) How many weapons can my character carry?
This also varies from character to character. Depending on the weight and strength of your character, you may be able to lug around more, or heavier weapons than others. Typically, it's wise to stick to the following formula, if you're unsure:
x1 Primary: Automatic Rifles, Shotguns, etc..
x1 Sidearm: Pistols and Revolvers
x1 Melee: Knives, Axes, Clubs, etc...
