"No!"
Natalie pulled her pistol and shot the now fully finished undead. She saw the blood, saw the wound on Rey's leg, and ran quickly and knelt by her side, getting the woman's arm over her shoulder and grunting with effort as she got the woman back on her feet.
"Come on, we've got to go. We have to get you out of here. Others will be coming soon!"
She didn't want to think about the wound on the woman's leg, or how long she had before the woman would turn or simply die. The wound looked bad, and she wasn't sure if the woman's immortality extended to being bitten by one of the zombies. She started half-carrying the other woman towards the nearest building. If they could get inside, and barricade the doors, she could wait to see what happens with the woman's wound.

Stubborn as she was, Rey tried to push Natalie away when she offered the shoulder, not wanting to be close to her when she was in the state she was in, but he couldnt even hold herself up. That, and if she let the virus inside her take over and heal now, it would end badly for her new helpful partner, who wasnt doing anything but trying to help. Rey just accepted that she was going to help her whether or not the stubborn woman wanted to, but she knew that any second, things would go bad. They always did, and she knew exactly what the T-Virus did to her immune system when she was bitten. Not like a normal human, but somebody like her. The process was different.
Not long, they had been inside of the nearby building. The gunshot might have drawn several infect to them, but it was daylight, and the only ones around were shamblers, who had been rotting beyond any threat for somebody with a clear yet. Rey didnt have a clear head when she went after them, trying to take them all out alone was so easy for her, but her mind was elsewhere. It was frustrating beyond beliefe how she was feeling the emotions she was. Rey hated them, and wished she just went back to how she was before. "Just block the door, deal with them when they get closer." Anymore infected would complicate the problem, but really, Rey just wanted her to get away while she did her thing.
Focusing on the blood rushing inside of her now, Rey felt it trying to fight the infection at her leg. Physically presing around the wound lead to her fingertips nearly digging into her skin, as if it was made of memory foam. That meant it was already trying to fight, but it wasnt working. All she could do now was hold off on her transformation as long as she could. Natalie blocked the door off quickly, and had came to see how bad was, but Rey knew she was going to see something that she was going to shock her, because when she pulled out her knife, Rey could only imagine what was going through Natalies head.
She drove the blad into her leg not far below her knee, and twisted it back and forth. There was pain, but since the virus was working so hard, it wasnt much. Rey felt it go through like a hot knife through butter, only it wasnt butter, it was a concentrated, regenisis state of living matter, merged inside of her cardiovasular system. Fifteen seconds after working on her leg, Rey managed to cut it off completely, tossing it to the side. "Burn that." Rey had no idea if Natalie was going to or not, but just lay down, closed her eyes, and focused on not passing out. If she did that, the virus would take over, and who knows what she might do until it was done feeding.
By this time, the infected had been close enough to deal with, as Rey could hear banging. It kept her into reality, which was what she needed right now. What would have been even better is to hear Natalie talk to her, if they had a conversation, to keep her conscience. "Ask me another question. Not about what the hell is happening right now, something different. I need to stay awake. I need to keep control."

To her credit, Natalie didn't immediately throw up when the woman began hacking into her leg. Unfortunately she couldn't stop herself once the leg was cut free and tossed away.
Once she was done being sick in the corner, she took out her knife and walked to the barricaded door, looking to see the infected trying to get in. As they pressed their rotting faces against the barricade, she drove her knife into their skulls, dispatching them as they tried to get to her.
"Okay, um...God a little on the spot huh? Didn't even give me time to think of something."
She stabbed the next one, pulling the knife back as she waited for the next infected to get close enough to the door. She tried to think of anything but the leg that wasn't far from her. The other woman didn't want to talk about it, and she didn't want to think about it. What else.
"Huh, okay. Date night. What would you do? Where would you go? Who would you be with? It's a game my friends and I used to play when we were younger."

Finally some good, hearwarming thoughts. Almost right away, Rey thought about Madison, and if they had met before all of this happened. Given the odds were slim to none, next to impossible, it was still a vivid thought in her mind. Even with Natalie slaying the undead with almost just as much ease as herself, Rey was able to process her answer, and start talking, with her eyes now open and watching the woman take care of business. "Smalltown coffee shop. Either of us were people friendly, and it was never too crowded in those places. Just her and I, sitting in the booth at the back, having a normal fcuking conversation, surrounded by normal fcuking people. Her smiling, drinking a hot chocolate, and me ripping apart an apple fritter, or some sh*t. No romantics, just us, who we were. Or who we could have been. Who we should have been."
This was good. Rey felt the warmth in her leg, and the pain went away completely. But before it worked well enough, a surge ran up her knee, and the pain return with a quick jolt. Rey yelled out in agony, which didnt last all too much, but she lost motor control enough for it to effect her nervous system all at once. On the floor, the freshly cut of limb had been shifting in place, and within seconds, it melted into a glob of rust colored substance that move around, leaving a trail where it had been previously. The infected had been quickly dispactched, and Natalie had been coming the seemingly helpless womans aid, but the thing jumped and wrapped itself around her legs, pulling her to the ground.
In an instant, the pain was shaken off, and Rey seen what had happened. She knew that with a knife, it could be cut away, but the only way to kill it would be fire. At this point, Rey looked around the room while Natalie struggled, but it was nearly impossible to crawl due to the temprary loss of movement and numbness that came over her, and that could be happening if Natalie let the stuff touch her skin.

Natalie tried to fight down the panic as she screamed and began slashing at her legs with her knife, trying to get the red glop from around her legs before it completely immobilized her. With a final slash and a kick her legs became free, and she started scooting away from it, backing up as quickly as she could. Once she got a fair distance away she got to her feet and tried to find something to burn it with. How was she going to create fire?
Going through her pockets, she found lighter fluid in one of the vest pockets, along with a few windproof matches. These things were valuable, but right now her life depended on her killing this thing. She waited until it got closer, then squirted it with the fluid and struck a match, setting it ablaze. She covered her mouth and nose and quickly backed away again, letting the fire consume the red blob.

Quick thinking on Natalies part, but while she had been focused on freeing herself, Rey rolled over onto her stomach, and tried to make a crawl away in case more had leaked out. It looked to be healing over, or at least trying, but clearly it was trying to get a waste for human flesh, and she didnt want to take a risk. All she could hear in the other room was Natalie tossing around, but before she could pinpoint whether not not she was winning the fight, her leg began to quiver and shake. The moment an orange blaze erupted from around the corner, Rey know that Natalie was victorious. Thankfully she was, because if she had died because of her, it wouldnt have done any good. Maybe this was all a bad idea, and she should be just leaving, going off on her own like she always did.
Not long after the fire started, it was apparent that Natalie had been looking for Rey, but she never got the chance because her leg started to regrow. The virus accepted defeat, and had gone back to assisting its host. Rey just lay back, feeling the strange sentation that could never become normal to her envelope where her old leg used to be. "Im in here.", she called out, telling Natalie know that she was okay, whatever that even meant. Reys leg began to form as it was, only an almost translucent tone, and still moving oddly back and forth. "It takes about five minutes to reconnect all the bones and muscle tissue I lost, but its going to take at least an hour or two before it goes back to normal. Not sure if youve even amputated somebody before, so I wanted to make sure I did it myself, otherwise I wouldve probably mutated. The risk I take for keeping this sh*t inside of me."
Natalie would have been the third person in her lifetime to see this happen, but one the first to witness it first hand, stage by stage. It wasnt pretty, and seeing how Natalie threw up from looking at the lost leg in the first place, she would understand if she didnt want to know anymore details. Some people were interested in her, most didnt want anything to do with her. It was a hard call to make, but there was no leaving yet, so whether Natalie wanted to stay or not, Rey was only going to be able to walk for the next bit. After standing up, she held her support on the wall, and tested her mutated leg. Of course, it failed, and she fell back into the wall. "You should just go. Im gonna get you killed."

Natalie watched, eyes open and jaw slack, as the woman's leg grew back. She had never seen anything like this before, and she just silently sat down on the floor and watched the process with fascination, and maybe just a tad awe. She heard what the woman said, and couldn't find her voice to respond, only slowly shaking her head as the leg began to take a more final shape.
After what seemed like forever, she was able to speak, though her voice was quiet and subdued.
"I.. that is the coolest thing I have ever seen. There is no way I am leaving your side. Don't want those undead bastards to take another bite out of you, or corner you. You're stuck with me honey."

Despite having the appearance of a twenty year old girl, Rey was partway in her thirties, she just couldnt age anymore. Information she didnt need to share, it wasnt important, and after seeing how Natalie was definitely more interested than scared, wasnt anywheres near cool. But it wasnt like this was something cool to her, this was everyday life now. It would get worse. Sure, regrowing limbs, and overall being unable to die had its perks, but she suffered from an illness that she couldnt cure, and it was against her will. With how involved Natalie had become at this point, it probably meant the questions she asked would completely open now. Rey never lied, though she did keep the truth away most of the time. People never asked the right questions, they didnt even know how to ask them these days. If Natalie did, however, Rey would respond with the truth, oweing her that.
"Wont happen again. Second time I slipped up in seven years. But whatever, we need to keep moving. I can still walk just fine." This time, when Rey put pressure on her foot, it hardened in place, knowing exactly what it needed to do. It didnt look like a human leg at all, and with half of her pants missing, if anybody else seen it, they would question it. Though finding another pair would be a good idea, it wasnt on the top of her list. The walk across the room was enough to let the bones and muscles work harder to correct themselves. Everytime this happened, it knew what to do even faster than before.
By the time she was out the door, Rey drew knife, taking out two lone wandering undead with ease and a clear mind. She wouldnt get angry again, unless somebody made her angry, which would mean the virus would stay inside her and do its job. "The museum isnt even far from here. Were still going, right?" The sound of gunshots erupted from an ally not too far from then, and Rey immediately turned and put ona light jog, feeling her leg adjusting with each step in front of her. If it was coming from there, it meant trouble.

Natalie quickly grabbed up Rey's discarded boot. If nothing else, she'd at least have a matching set of shoes. She chased after her down the alleyway as they heard the gunshots. She didn't know who else would be operating out here, but if there were living people to help, she was going to try. She didn't do as well the last time, but at the very least she met Rey.
"Slow down! We don't know what we are running into!"
A walker had come from a building in the alley between the other woman and herself. She shot him it in the forehead and kept running, the gunshot sounding loud in the confined space. She was still moving as it collapsed in a rotting heap by the wall.

Hearing the gunshot behind her was a little alarming, but not distracting. Rey figured that Natalie would have used her sling, or whatever it was she threw rocks with. It didnt really matter in the end, the gunshots were far enough away that they wouldnt have noticed, but the two of them got closer and closer with each block. Not long after they got about a block from the museum, Rey stopped, and looked over her shoulder to see if Natalie had been close. She didnt stop for her though, she stopped to remove her other boot, which was impeding her from moving easy she was could. Broken glass, bits of metal, it didnt bother her bare feet because the virus had thickened up her skin to prevent a puncture. She felt her soles change, callous up almost instantly, and then each individual toe almost merging with one another to form natural footware.
By the time Natalie was with her, which wasnt even ten seconds, Rey just stood on the corner of the street, watching the museum. The gunfire stopped, only sputting gunshots every now and again. Two large trucks were parked out front, and a third had been driven partway into the wall. Whoever was inside were trouble, that was clear. Another string of gunshots echoed out into the streets. "Theyre not aggressive shots, or defensive. They warning. They people are being robbed." Moving closer, but staying out of sight, Rey tried to get a good look to see if anybody had been inside of the trucks. Luckily, there hadnt been, so she and Natalie could get closer without worrying about being seen. "We can wait for them to come out, ambush them. Or follow them when they leave, track them down. Can only drive so fast with wheels, two routes to take, and since they have trucks, they must be near one of the routes. Or go in there and end this right now."
Rey prefered to go in there now, but seeing how protective Natalie would be, she didnt feel like that was the option she was going to choose. A ambush was good, but if there had been a lot of them, would the woman be able to handle herself? Automatic gunfire was a lot to deal with, and Rey wasnt sure of she dealt with it being fired at her, personally. Following them, and doing it on route, or wherever they stopped would be a good idea too, but whatever she chose, Rey could be killing people either way.

"Follow them hell. They could be killing people in there. Come on, we can't wait."
Natalie tossed the woman her missing boot and checked to made sure that the gunfire hadn't attracted any more of the undead. She saw that there were a few gathering close by, but they weren't an immediate threat. They needed to clear the living threat first.
"Come on, let's go be heroes. Then we can clear out the zombies before they overwhelm the area."

If that was how it was going to go down, then Rey had a better idea. Scanning the trucks parked close to the wall, he judged the distance between them and the first floor balcony, being about seven feet. A foothold, and a place alongside to pull her up. Plan now set in her mind, Rey darted toward the truck, which might have been a little misleading to Natalie, but in a matter of seconds, she mantling herself on top. With another quick leap, she dove across the gap, perching onto the rail, then vaulted up and over. By this time, Natalie had been close to the entrance, and Rey got on her side, shimmying close to the edge as she could, extending her hand. "Just trust me, and grab on."
The jump was easy, so was pulling her up, but the pressure from the contact with her hand, Rey could feel her own palms and the countours of her fingers begin to merge together with Natalie. The sentation would have been like it was before, a pulse of warmth, followed by brief numbness, but her grip was strong enough to hoise her up and over the railing with ease. Moment she was over, the skin on her hand shed, almost dripping away, and their hands had disconnected. Rey shook it off, not worrying about it, because both her mind and the virus inside of her worked in sync in the darkness of the upstairs hallway, peering down through the windows, mentally marking off the men with guns. Each of them were armed, most of various types of assault rifles, even one with light machine gun. Rey counted nine, mouthing to Natalie without speaking, before drawing her bow.
Rey peered through one of the broken windows down the sights on her bow. It used to be intergrated with red dot technology, but long since fried from use. Still, she didnt need it, and the black lines around the edged made judging distance even easier. The arrows she had were medium ranged, multi-tipped, for these sorts of situations, ones where it didnt matter if the shot was instantly lethal or not because the curves had been jagged and rusty. Even a center of mass shot would hit a vital, and then bleeding out happens in minutes. Luckily, they werent wearing vests, either, so if Natalie had a sharp eye, she would be able to use a gun for her own, or take one from a dead body.
"Get ready. Ten seconds." Rey didnt worry about them hearing her, because they had been shouting back and forth a lot. Training the sights on the neck of an enemy, the one further away by closest to cover, she waited for the right time. They could either stay up here and work their way around, or jump down and hide behind the truck which was now parked inside of the building. It could go either way, or another way, depending on how the men reacted. That moment, a gunshot rang out, and one of the men shot one of the survivors. Hostages, for lack of a more appropriate word. But at the same time the gun fired, Rey shot an arrow, hitting the man in the neck, instantly bringing him to the ground and masking the kill. The others didnt notice, as he fell behind a table, and they were focused on holding their guns to the others.

Natalie watched as the first man fell silently. One down, eight to go. There was no way they were going to be able to pick them all off without being noticed. But she could help drop a few more of them before the real shooting began. She aimed down her pistol sight at the man with the light machine gun, and squeezed off two shots, both hitting the man in the chest. He hit the ground, and she knew immediately that they were going to be under fire. She ducked as low as she could on the stairs and lined up her next target, using their confusion to fire onto the next one closest to the hostages, taking him down with a show to the chest as well.
"Keep them away from the hostages!"

Two rounds to the chest a smart move, especially with a handgun at this range. Bullets were dangerously hard to come by now a days, good ones anyways, and if Natalie had been using the reloaded ammunition that was going around, she hoped the two in the chest would be enough to hit something vital. Without thinking too much about it anymore, the gunfire was aimed in Natalies direction, and Rey used the opportunity to flank around the back. She dipped in between two bookshelves, and fired around arrow, hitting another in the back through his lung while in the move to the back. Rey jumped over the railing, landing on the first floor, and rolled behind the corner wall. Natalie seemed to be in good enough cover, and they were all being aggresive in her direction.
Drawing back another around, she put this on into the back of ones leg, hearing him yell and fall to his knees. Darting forward, Rey perched behind him, and drove the knife into his neck. Then, she grabbed the mans own blade from his side, and threw it into the chest of another that turned to face her. It seemed at this point, half of them had been splitting their fire up, and were focused on the survivors anymore. The only problem was that there hadnt even been more than five of the museum dwellers, and they were in the process of being tied up when Rey and Natalie arrived. Something was going down, and she didnt know what, but once the assailents were all dead, they would have their answers.
The only cover she had now out in the open had been the body of one of their buds, and Rey used it to block the gunfire that scattered in her direction from a shotgun across the room. With the large echo in the building, the sound would no doubt travel, and bring the attention of other things from outside, and they might even be a good enough distraction, as it was two against five at this point. Rey would have been more dicey and charge them without worrying about taking even ten rounds to the chest if it meant killing them all, but she would rather not risk a shot to the head again. Who knows what would happen now that she had the latest virus in here system, it was already damaging the last time. So for now, she stood her ground, and hoped Natalie could thin them out enough, or at least keep from getting shot long enough for the under calvelry to show up.

Natalie snapped from cover again and fired off another shot, hitting one of the raiders in the stomach, and seeing that the bandits were focusing more on the attacker they could see instead of her, she popped out of cover and fired again, hitting another in the shoulder and arm.
She was awed that Rey was so deadly in a fight, and momentarily shifted focus from her attackers. A few shots came her way from someone with an assault rifle, and then she felt like someone had slugged her in the stomach as hard as they could. Her vest seemed to have slowed down the round, but it didn't stop it completely. She fell sideways, and attempted to drag herself back into cover as more bullets ricocheted off of the metal railing around her.
