"I am going to have to ask them for some advice. Our coffee plants don't make it past a few weeks. Pretty much worth their weight in scrap these days."
Polly was wondering what other items the settlement was working with, or had the ability to make or procure. She was aware that the guards were far more prepared than her settlement, with plentiful weapons and prepared defenses. Maybe they had raided a pre-apocalypse weapons cache? Or were former soldiers? She had a feeling that Katya's uncle had more to do with their preparations than anything else.
"Katya, we definitely need to establish some kind of trade deal. I'm sure we have something to offer at home that people here would like."

"something worth the trip dodging hordes, landmines and dumb, triggerhappy drunkards?"

"I'm sure we can find something. If nothing more than to get people talking, traveling, and helping each other."
Polly smiled at the thought of more people coming to their community, of new faces, new stories around the fires, and new relationships blossoming. Humans were supposed to be social creatures after all. They couldn't just hide behind their walls forever.

"I think that's a great idea. I hope they're...a bit more, er...receptive than ours have been."
Polly hoped that there would be less threatening and more productivity, but knowing Katya she really couldn't count on it. From what she had seen that seemed to be the way the entire family handled things.
"So do we have to threaten them. When we arrive, or do we just wait a bit first?"

katya chuckled, "no pet, we don't have to threaten them. you can talk to them normally. I'll only threaten If they decide to pull a fast one on us."

"Is that going to be a problem? Or at the very least a possibility? You made it sound like that might be a possibility."
Polly smiled, the strange domestic things they worried about seeming almost strange with the dangers they found themselves in. But for the moment they were safe and among family and friends. This was a good time as any to find out as much about Katya as she could while the opportunity was still in the room with her.
"So, is there anything that I should know about Katya, before she tries to chain me in the basement?"

"I...I might. You never know, I could put up a struggle at least."
Polly's face turned crimson, and she turned away from the others while she waited for it to at least lessen before Katya could get her with something else. She was in for it if she did, since she had found herself completely surrounded by her family, and she imagined they were all as bad as her lover.
"So, what are we planning for today? Anyone we're going to visit, maybe someone to take me on a tour of the settlement?"

"That sounds like a plan. Maybe we can see what other trade options are here as well? I mean, why waste the trip?"
Polly knew the trip to the graveyard would be hard on Katya, but she was going to be there to support her, and once they were through she would cheer her up. Endless enthusiasm and sass were the tools of her trade, and she would use them until the woman either smiled or broke her in half. She hoped for the first option.

"No, you and Jake get plates and cutlery. I'm not letting you cook. Honestly, you'd eat an old shoe if I didn't stop you. Now shoo."
Polly got busy slicing bread, and cooking what appeared to be pork strips while Jake and Katya got the plates and utensils. She knew they wouldn't complain, but she was fairly certain the woman didn't like being ordered around by her rather submissive lover. Still, this was an area she excelled in, and eventually she would allow Katya to make meals again once she had learned to cook.
"Breakfast will be ready soon! Cassandra you're getting a double portion. You're eating for two."

"Could be three. Never know, it might be twins. Stranger things have happened."
Polly smirked, trying her best impression of Katya's infamous facial expression, and then went back to making sure the pork was cooked through. While she didn't have it too often, she understood what it could do to ones stomach if it wasn't properly cooked. The last thing she wanted to do was make anyone else sick.
