Or maybe it’s because the enemy is watching you from somewhere. Go on and do a check to do a deep thought search. You also are in a spot to make a journal entry, if you wanted. The chopper is climbing, and has reached 3,340 feet.
Captain Buck: “Take a look around on FLIR. We will too. If there are large bodies or groups chasing something, that’s were we will go. Dixie will be patrolling low. We are too high for anything to surprise us, but everything can see us if they’re looking.”. I’ll bring it up to 5,500 feet for best view of the area. I don’t think they have gone beyond 30 miles.”
Wisdom check.

You reminisce the possibilities of what might be able to observe what you see, then remember that moment when you heard “REPEAT” during the battle with the dragon at the edge of the cliff. Then, the friendly dragon that caught you on the way down, her voice telling you to jump. You don’t remember an artillery gun being at the chopper base, and the elevation and range would be too far. There is only one possible way an artillery shell could reach that dragon and be that accurate. There was a familiar voice that shouted Repeat, just before the first explosion. Then, the second was dead on the dragons head. The shell came from above.

You see a fixed wing aircraft far in the distance roll to one side. You then see a subtle stream of lights spray toward the ground. There below it is some dust kicked up. Then a new plume of gray dust kicks up. Everyone else is looking low, down or at their instruments, but you spot with your FLIR this unfold in the distance at compass direction of 240, or in reference to the chopper, 10 o’clock. Estimated distance is over 25 miles.

He looks.
Captain Buck: “I duno, let’s go find out.” He rolls toward that direction and maintains altitude. After a few moments of approaching it, he talks to the copilot. “Looks like a transport. What can you make of it, Marxx ?”
2nd Lt. Marx: “C-130, looks like.” He looks more intently. “Smoke on the ground.”
Captain Buck: “Oh s***, that’s a gunship. AC-130. Could be USAF or ours. Let’s get closer and try some coms.”
2nd Lt. Marx: “This is Golf Uniform, Seven Victor Tango Mike. Contacting Gunship engaging ground targets. Identify please.”
No response. The aircraft continues to engage the ground.
Captain Buck: “Can’t be out of range.”
SSgt. Seawall: “Could their radios be out ?”
2nd Lt. Marx: “Could be. Any aircraft out here could be friendly, but we won’t know till we positive ID them.”
Captain Buck: “Caston, you know why an AC-130 might be operating here ?”

No response.
Captain Buck: “When we get closer try. I think, if they still have a radio, they should hear us. If not, we will need to do morse flash signals. They won’t be able to see us yet. I’ll turn on the landing lights so they can see us though.”
2nd Lt. Marx: “I’ll flash it once in a while too, maybe if they’re looking they’ll flash theirs too.”
The chopper continues on, and closes to within 10 miles. There is another flash on the ground followed by a plume of smoke. The aircraft climbs further up.
Captain Buck: “Dixie. Located an AC-130, most likely friendly. Vectors two fower zeroh. Trying to establish contact. They’re engaging targets in the ground.”
Captain Dixie: “Roger. Will join you a distance behind.”
The sun for this world is at about a 30 degree position in the sky, indicating that it’s still fairly early in the morning, despite it feeling like noon. The clouds have all gone at this point.
Captain Buck: “I wonder how long they’ve been here.”

Captain Buck: “Uhh, then something is wrong. Because we haven’t been told they were gonna be here.” 5 miles out and Marx flashes again. Then the gunship flashes. They flash a morse code message twice. “They said N-O-C-O-M-S twice.” Marx replies, flashing the landing lights multiple times. “Writing a book ?”
2nd Lt. Marx: “Told them to check SPOND signal.” The gunship is replying. “B-L-K-D. They’re saying it’s blocked.”
Captain Buck: “Caston. How would your implants be blocked !?”
