Cam noticed but didn't let on. Instead he made up a story.
"Well, I was asking her if she want to go to a post convention viewing of the Star Wars Trilogies. Even though the Convention is a few days, some of the more die hard fans don't stop. So they spend the day afterwards renting out one of the older theatres and end up playing all six movies. Some people get out there and act it up and then others quote most of the movie the whole time. A few lightsaber battles happen and then they all go home."
It wasn't a lie, things like this did go on. In fact, if Cam hadn't run into Willamina, he would be going to it.
"What are you doing here, ma'am?" asked Cam, hoping to change the subject. The look on Will's face was one of terror and panic.

Mrs. Yates had slouched a bit in her seat and peeked at the menus as she listened to Cameron's rant about Star Wars conventions. She tried hard to not giggle but it was so cute and she'd even began to hope that maybe Will would consider an go. He seemed harmless!
"My husband is here on business. He used to be a cartoonist but he does other things on the side. We're here for those 'other things'," she responded with smile. "Hmm, I think I'll have a slice of Red velvet cake and a nice cup of hot tea. Willamina dear, what would you like?"
Will sighed and looked down at the menus. "Just iced tea. I'mnot very hungry...I, er, am too excited about the Star Wars convention. You know how much I'm a Qui-Gon Jinn fangirl," she told her mom, smiling. Of course she knew about Star Wars, she loved it, though she was mostly fond of the earlier productions.
"And Cameron?"

"I'll have a Dr. Pepper and the Pastrami Sandwich with spicy mustard." He looked back and forth to make sure that he wasn't over ordering. He tried to pick one of the less expensive items on the menu." He looked over at Will. "You can have half if you want it. And the Trilogy fest will begin tomorrow at 7 am." Which was true. Six movies at 3 hours each and then discussion between each one and at the end and then the lightsaber challenge, it would go all day. If Will decided to go, this would at least give them a full day headstart before her parents knew.
"What type of cartoons did he draw? I'm an avid anime reader."

When the waitor took their menus, Willamina had responded to Cameron before her mother could, since she'd stopped the waitor to request a sandwich for her daughter, despite her insistance that she as fine. Pastrami sounded good though at that moment.
"He did children's cartoons...he created the Mr.Raccoon show in Raccoon City...things of that callibur. He draws Anime sometimes but because Western cartoons were more in high demand in the 90's, well, you get the point," she explained, smiling warmly.
"Yes, my daughter says she's not hungry, but she is, I can tell. So she'll have the deli ham and jack cheese, romain lettuce, tomatoes and a ranch dressing spread. A lemon wedge for her tea, please," Mrs. Yates said before handing her menu to the man.
"Mother..." she groaned, raking a hand through her messy, blonde hair. "So anyways, Cameron, I think I'll go along with you to the convention...might help me out a bit."

Cameron smiled knowingly at Will, but the way her mom acted reminded him of his mom, and it produced an ache in his heart to hug his mom one more time.
"Then I'll pick you up about 6:30 tomorrow morning and we can make a day of it." Cam's face and tone picked up as he grew excited about having company on the drive...
Or was she serious about going to the Star Wars Marathon? No, that was just for her mother's sake. Since they were heading out tomorrow, then it would give him time to finish his packing and do another supply run. He had loaded up on ammo and guns, but had totally forgotten about a machete and a crowbar. They would probably need more gas cans as he didn't expect to find a gas station anywhere. Plus he had the rack on top of the truck that could be loaded up.
He was brought out of his thoughts by the arrival of their food. His pastrami sandwich smelled delicious. It was on homemade rye bread with spicy mustard and long, thinly sliced pickles. On the side was a bag of kettle style potato chips. Cam opened the bag and dumped the chips on his plate and then picked up one and put it in his mouth. He crunched down on it, savoring the salty crunch of it.
Then he remembered his manners and waited for the ladies to start eating before he picked up his sandwich and began to eat.

Will took a bite out of her own sandwich and smiled partially. Her mother was right, she was hungry and this sandwich was pretty good. Now if only she would have remembered it was grilled chicken she liked in it, not deli ham. Either way, it was good and it was hitting the spot. May as well endulge anyways since this would be the last time in a long while where she'd have a good meal.
"I have things to pick up before I leave, Cameron. Do you think you could take me to pick it up?" she asked, politely, smiling at him.
"Things like what, dear? I could take you," her mother chimed in, taking a piece of her cake.
"No, no, it's on the way to the convention and it won't be ready until tomorrow anyway. That's why I was asking Cameron. Thank you, though, mom," she responded, taking a potato chip and crunching down on it.

Tossing the last bite of his sandwich in his mouth, Cam chewed it with a look of pleasure on his face. Dang, that was good pastrami, sliced thin and peppered. He shrugged at Will.
“Sure, I have a few things for my costume that I need to get anyway. And we should at least get you a brown robe and one of those plastic lightsabers from the toy store. It won’t be much, but it will guarantee you a good seat. Costumed people get in first. I do need to get something from my room, first.”
Cam excused himself from the table, thanking Mrs. Yates and telling her that it was an honor to meet her. Then he turned to Will.
“Here’s my cell phone number, just in case you change your mind, but if not, then we will leave at 6:30 in the morning. I’m in room 1028.”
He gave a little bow, and stood up. “May the force be with you.”
Damn, why can’t I just shut my mouth?, he thought. Then he turned and left the two ladies, heading for his room. He was already making out a list of things that he needed to get. he pushed the button for the elevator. While waiting for the elevator to come down, he pulled out his phone and saw that he had a text message.
It was from Sarah Connors. Again, he smiled at the mention of her name. But the message wiped it from his face.
“Investigators on site have determined that the body found in Dungeon Lair was indeed that of his dad. Dental records were used for identification purposes. Sorry for your loss.”
Numbly, Cam just stared down at his phone. He didn’t even notice that the elevator arrived and the door opened. People exited the elevator and others entered, and he just stood there.
He had tried to expect the worst to help him deal with the blow, but it hit him like a ton of bricks. He closed his eyes, feeling tears gather at the corner of his eyes. He opened them and could barely make out the elevator button through his blurry vision. He wiped away the tears and pushed the button again.
Well, he’s gone, but he would want me to do something special with the money. I’ll have to do something that would honor him… like put him in the paintjob of my truck. The elevator opened and he stepped, pushing the button for floor 10. Then he continued to build his list of items to buy.
The doors closed to the elevator and he was thankfully alone for his ride up. Reaching the 10th Floor, he made it to his room and opened the door. On the bed, he had the rest of his money… $1400.00 dollars. Most of that would go to the supplies and extra gas cans. He folded it and stuffed it into cargo pocket on his pants. Then he grabbed his backpack… with his gun inside and locked his room. It only took him a few minutes to get back down to the lobby, looking for Will.

Will had bid farewell to her mother when she'd passed through the lobby on her own. She was going the opposite direction of the cafe, towards the opened bar. Her nerves were rattled and she needed something to cling onto, a good shot of vodka would be the perfect specimen.
Upon nearly making it across, she'd stopped half way when she'd seen Cameron alone and a little down. Frowning she detoured toward him, moving passed people entering and exiting the elevators.
"Are you alright...?" she asked, laying a hand on his shoulder.

Cameron looked over when he felt someone touch his shoulder.
"Yeah, uh no, well." Cam looked back down at his phone and then put it away. He looked up at Will and smiled. "I'm okay. I just got a message saying that they determined that my dad was dead... dental records and all. I mean... I knew that there was a good chance, but I thought maybe he was alive and hiding... I don't know... It sounds pretty silly, but it sounded so final."
Cam shook the thought out of his head. "But let's talk about something else. I have a list of things that I still need to get and plot a course. What do you need?"

Willamina shrugged a bit. She didn't know what sorts of equipment she'd need. Obviously she needed more ammunition though, she just didn't know what sorts. Kevin took care of he weapon ad his own most of the time.
"I'm not sure...I guess I should make a list of things necessary for travelling into Raccoon City...it's going to be so bizarre to go back into that city though...Kevin..." she muttered the last part with such sadness that her vice cracked.
There was a faint moment of silence when she'd looked back upto Cameron.
"I'm so sorry, I'm here feeling sorry for myself and you just found out your father is dead...I'm so very sorry," she told him as sincerely as possible.

"Ya know it's okay", Cam said. "But thank you." He started walking towards his car, away from the cafe. "I have a list of things to get.
"Mostly foodstuff and gas so we don't have to stock, but we are going to need some maps, a heavier jacket and I need to get a machete and a crowbar, some extra batteries and ... you said ammo. What type of weapon do you have?"
By this time he had reached his ride. It was a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser that had been modified with a 6 inch lift on it and offroad tires. He went to the passenger side and opened the door for Will. "Your chariot awaits, milady." He looked over at his ride and then back at Wil.
"I know it doesn't look like much but she's got it where it counts. I've made a few personal modifications on her myself."

Will tilted her head at the car before looking back at Cameron, smiling. "It's fine. Better than my car, which is in shop right now...I know this souds awkward and so improper, but can you take me to a nearby salon?"
It did sound pretty stupid, but the night before Kevin's disappearance, she'd dyed her hair blond just to irk him, now, feeling guilty for so many petty things, she wanted to get her hair back to normal color. Maybe a trim too since itd grown out....be easier to keep out of undead grasps if she ever had to come too close.
"I know, it sounds so stupid, but trust me when I say that it would mean alot to me without being vapid..." that's when she'd remembered her weapon and his asking what type it was.
"Oh and I have a Beretta...I think Kevin said it was a Beretta Px4 Storm and chambered 9mm rounds. I'd feel comfortable with maybe another weapon too though..."

"Once I get the money, I'm doing a Star Wars paint job on it, The Death Star on the front, with the battle of Endor on the hood. Then some TIE Kill markers under my window and a squadron of X-Wings on the passenger side and I think I might have Darth Vader on the back."
He got in on his side of the car and started it up. He heard Will's request.
"But you're gorgeous as you are." Then he clamped his hand over his mouth. He was thinking that, but hadn't meant to say it out loud. His face blushed. "I mean, sure thing. I can drop you off and go pick up my stuff."
Cam backed out of his parking spot and put the car in drive. Slowly he pulled out of the parking lot and headed down the street.
"Really, that's what I'm carrying. I'll grab some more ammo and we can share. What type of gun would you like to get? Also, will an hour do it for your hair? I think I can get all my stuff during that time. There is a sporting good store in the same parking lot as a Super Walmart. Between them, I should be able to get everything... except your other gun."

Will had smiled at Cameron when he blurted out that she was "gorgeous". It wasn't every day someone woulda say that to her unless they were Kevin or her parents. It didn't make her nervous in the least, it was sweet, actually.
That's when he started to babble on about the paint job on his vehicle and the weapon thing. She'd placed her hands in her lap and looked out of the window beside her at the smiling, happy, people walking in and out of buildings. It was busy and normal...unlike the rest of the country..
"An hour should be fine...I have cash on me, so...um, I'm sure I can trust you enough to get me a good weapon with this," she told him, fishing out a small, black wallet with multicolored characters and a large depiction of Princess Peach from the Mario series.
Reaching into it, she'd pulled out a pay as you go, credit card. Her dad had given it to her for emergencies. It had about 7 grand on it. She'd used it some for gas, paying the mechanic, her hotel room an food. She should have had atleast 5 grand left, should be more than enough for some amunition and another handgun or something. She still had her own money to buy batteries and first aid. She could do that if he didn't make it on time to pick her up from the salon.
"Here, take this to get my weapon supply. The pin's 0214."
Whether or not she could trust him, she was desperate.

"Wow", was all that Cam could say. She was either a really trusting person... or she was in a position where she had to trust him. He took the card from her. "0214." Valentine's Day. He knew that because he had used that before as a pin number.
He pulled over to the curb and stopped the car. "I'll be back in one hour and then we can head back to the hotel. Tonight I'll plan our route and load up. In the morning, we can head out. We can leave a note with the front desk for your parents... so they don't worry."
When Will exited the car, Cam put it in gear and pulled back out into traffic. He had a long list of what he needed, and little time to get it. Up first would be the gun store. The line might not be as long now, but it if was, then it would have to be first. All the other supplies, he could get later on tonight.
[Cam moves back to the Gun Store]
