Amanda knew the door would hold, but the desk would support it even more. Walking into the security room further, she looked at the monitors that were all shut down. It was a survailence system throughout the whole building, as well as a functioning PA system. Chances are they were going to stay in this mall for a good day or so, with all the infected outside, unless they found a way out of this place. Amanda paced into another room, this looked to be like a generator to the power in the mall. They could easily get the lights back on in all the stores.
"Hey, this place seemed pretty safe. As far as I can see, that door is the only way in and our. Except for the rooftop, of course. But we cant get down from there..." Katie had been exploring around the place herself, looking for a way out into the mall. The only way out was through the door, but that wouldnt be possible with all of those zombies blocking the way. But then, Katie saw Amanda kicking at a metal plate inside the generator room, and ramming it with her pipe.
Amanda ripped off the vent shaft panel, and peered inside with her flashlight. Judging by the sounds, of the infected, this looked like it lead into the mall through the warehouse. They could use that to get back inside and get to the entrance door. "We can get into the mall through this vent, I can hear them on the other side."

Jake leaned up against the wall, crossing his arms. It wasn't really a great idea to go out now, but it probably wasn't a better idea to stay where they were at. Sighing, he ran his fingers through his hair and scratched the nape of his neck.
"I guess it'll hafta do, but we need to be extra careful. I doubt the vents could holw that much weight at a time, so we'll have to go one by one," he replied.
Kaiah raised a brow. "Well if that's the case, then whoever goes first has to play lookout for the infected while the others get through. So who's first?"
Automatically Amanda had began climbing through the vent since she was the smallest of the group.

Amanda was already in the vent, she wanted to go out there again, and get some things she needed from the mall. But as soon as she crawled out the opposite end, she heard Katies voice from the vent. "Amanda, take this!" A radio was tossed down the vent to her, and she turned it on and spoke. "Right..." After attaching the radio to her vest, Amanda ran through the empty section of the mall. What was stopping them from simply going around to the back entrance?
While Amanda was gone, Katie switched on the radio from the survailence area, so she could contact her hands free. Starting up the power to the generator, the lights came back on in the secutiry room. aswell as the survailance screens. Scanning through them with her eyes, Katie found Amanda using an overhead camera in the East Plaza. Looking at Jake, she smiled, but then noticed the eastern gate was blocking the exit. Looks like there was a way out, but unless they had explosives, that large gate wasnt coming down. "Amanda, the back alternative entrance to this mall is gated off, you can go through so dont even try."

Kaiah had started for the vent next, being stopped almost immediately by her older brother. "Oh, woah, now, you're not going anywhere," he told her. Kaiah placed her hands on her hips. "Please, I'm 30 years old, was a wife and mother. I'm fine, bro," Kaiah told him. Jake shook his head.
"Yeah well, what about that?" he asked, pointing at her bloody sleeve. Kaiah frowned. She'd gotten a nasty injury during their escape from the undead horde outside. "Tis only a flesh wound, Jake."
Jake looked back at Katie. "Well someone should go out there too. I can go, maybe--hey, is that Amanda or...?" he cut himself off upon seeing a figure beating an undead's head in with a hockey stick, then getting outnumbered, then backing away before leaping over a counter and whipping out what looked like pucks.
"Definitely not the strangest thing I've seen tonight...Katie, can you zoom in and see who the hell that is?"
Kaiah leered into the screen, holding her arm as she did so. "Ooh."

Katie was ready to speak into the radio to Amanda, whos deadly intentions were obviously going to get her killed. But then the camera zoomed in closer to the figure, she realized that it wasnt who they thought it was. "Amanda, come on, do you copy?" As the voice answered, Katie responded immediately. "You should check out the sporting good store on the top floor of the Entrance Plaza. We see a survivor, you should go check it out. Jake is on his way, aswell, so youll have some backup if things go wrong." Katie looked at Jake, knowing it would be a better idea if he went into the mall to help Amanda. She never liked leaving her alone.
While she moved closer to the back section of the top floor Entrance Plaza, Amanda could see the undead flooding around the front to a sport shop. This was definitly the place, the infected looked hungry for a meal, the sounds overpowering the faint mall track that played through the PA. About half of the group had turned to its newly interested goal, giving the man on the inside less horde to worry about. Amanda got her footing up against the railing, and then began firing off nails into the infected, generally taking just 1-2 shots to the head to bring them down for the count. As she fought, there was a burst of power seen coming from the store, and the infected were dropping with thuds. A man in a leather jacket emerged from the scene, diving through a thin bunch of the undead.

Jake had climbed through the vent and dropped down into the mall, grasping onto his weapon tightly as he began tracking after Amanda. Suprisingly the horde had been cleared from the small area of the mall, leaving Jake to wonder, just who the hell it was that was on camera. Hopefully an ally was all he worried about.
The marine had jogged through the deserted mall, a few scattered zombies shuffling here and there when he was across the second floor of the mall from Amanda who's been interacting with the newcomer. He cautiously made his way toward them when something slammed into him, knocking him over the railing.
"f**k!" he shouted, wrestling with the amphibian like thing as they plummeted to the ground below. Jake managed to roll over ontop of it, getting his leg caught in a tapestry with the Mall's logo imprinted on it. He now hung upside down, out of arm's reach of anything that he could safely grab onto.
"The amphibian below, however, was still alive and leaping high into the air, slashing at the man with high pitched screams. Fortunately it too was out of claw's reach of Jake who had dropped his shotgun beside it.
"Ah s***, this isn't good." If there was one of those things, chances are, there were more lurking by. Gazing up, he could see exactly how they'd get in. The glass dome-like roof of the mall had been shattered.
Back inside the security room, Kaiah had been staring into the screen, helplessly. "Where's Jake? Do you see him?"

Katie scanned the security cameras, and caught one glimpse of him hanging above one of those hunter creatures from the mall siding. Focusing closer, she looked at Kaiah, knowing she could probably run in after him. But before anything, the unknown survivor ran for the railing, and launched his hand down, yelling at Jake to grab on. Amanda would help, but there was no way she was strong enough to even lift half of the guy, she was too weak physically. Fending off infected with her steel pipe, she motivated the man to pull Jake back onto the second floor.
After a struggle with the horde, Amanda glanced back to see the man lift Jake back onto the floor, and then look around at the infected. "I got these, you two go to the north plaza, ill get your gun jake" The unknown survivor instantly ran for the exit to the North Plaza, with Jake following behind. Katie watched the scene unfold on the camera, trying to pick up where Jake dropped his gun. Seeing it down below with two more of those hunters, she knew Amanda was in over her head. "You best have a plan, two of those creatures are surrounding the area."
Amanda sprinted back for the elscalators, and then stood at the top. Holding up her arms, she waved them quickly and yelled for the creatures to come get her. After they were halfway up the steps, Amanda jumped the railing and landed on an alcove below, tumbling safely to the floor. Jumping back up to her feet, she ran back for the shotgun, nearly racing to it with the creatures. She spun around and threw the pipe at them, knocking one of them off balance, giving her the edge to the shotgun. Picking it up, Amanda dropped to her back, and aimed up as one of them jumped for her. It wouldve been the end of her if she hadnt pulled the trigger at the last second.
Rolling over to dodge the second hunters claw, she blasted it awell, then returned to her feet. Walking over to the downed beast, she blasted it in the head, killing it instantly. Then, she waited for the other to come at her before firing again, finishing it off with another two shells. Pumping the gun, she had no more ammo, feeling a little useless about using up Jakes shells to save herself. But regardless, Amanda ran toward the North Plaza, hoping to catch up with Jake and the other guy anytime soon. Katie watched the fight from the camera, pretty much astonished at the way Amanda handled herself against the Hunters. Looking at Kaiah, she spoke out in a low voice. "She didnt look the type..."

Kaiah grinned at the kid on screen. "Well, when ya hafta survive..." she trailed off with a sigh of relief.
Down in the North Plaza, Jake had been leaping table top to table top in the food courts, evading the horde that blocked their way to a safe room, which looked like a Macy's. Glancing back at the survivor, he was keeping up vastly well, leaving Jake with the relief of not having to worry as much as he did for the girls.
Looking back as his feet collided with tile, he pulled the electronic doors open and gestured for the man to get inside. When he did, he looked around for Amanda, pulling his handgun out and blasting through the skulls of undead that neared him.
"Amanda!" he yelled.

Katie switched monitors as the three of them ran into the north plaza, now tracking down their position inside. Wherever they were, there was a ton of undead flooding the area, which wasnt very good. If it wasnt so dangerous back in the Entrance Plaza, she would have went back out there and took some photos for the story, it wouldve made a great cover. But enough about that, Katie finally found them on the screens from two angles, seeing they were trying to take refuge inside of a clothing store or something. "There they are!" Katie yelled pointing at the screen which showed Jake and the other man climbing over the walkers.
"No... This is..." As the other two ran for the store through the hordes, Amanda had stared at the groups of infected. This was probably the post she had seen in the same place at one time. As trapped like a rat as she felt, she didnt let it get to he, and started working her way forward to the store Jake and the other man was at. Amanda jumped up and grabbed onto a lower awning, pulling herself up. She could walk along the banisters, to the other side, but. Quickly sliding her back across the wall just out of the infected reach, she could see the others at the doorway. Problem was, thsi was on the other side of the section.
Jake motivated her to jump, but Amanda needed to make sure there was enough room to get a safe distance. But as the undead piled up, she knew it was now or never. Pushing off with he foot on the wall and other other on the corner, leaped far, nearly running over the tops of the infected for a short distance. Landing inside the store, she fell to the ground as the others closed up the security doors. Amanda was trying to get some words out, but she had to catch her breath before anything. Still laying on the ground, she looked up at the other man, and questioned. "Who are you?"

Jake had pulled Amanda up to her feet before glancing back at the glass doors that had been pounded on by the swarm of zombies outside. It'd hold for a bit longer, but he was positive they'd have to find another way out and fast.
"Introductions later. Let's find another way out of his store. The doors won't stand much longer," he informed them, moving abruptly passed them. The man agreed and followed suit as Amanda stayed close behind.
As they trudged through the large jewelry store, Jake had taken notice to the broken glass counters and cases. Jewelry had been taken and some scattered amongst the floor. Registers were broken, money was gone and there were a few corpses lying about. Most of them were business men and women, possibly the employees.
To avoid any mess, Jake had curb stomped their faces in, causing some slight cringing from the man behind him.
"Ouch," he muttered, following the same procedure.
Jake continued on. "Gotta do what ya gotta do....woah..." he murmurred, shining a light towards their only exit of the store. They could make out the Exit sign but the doors were completely covered in stick webbing. It wasn't like the moth's however...more like a spiders..
The man grimaced and quickly pulled the young girl aside. "It's a spider's web...I've seen this before back in the '98 incident with my wife..."
Jake looked up to find bodies were twisted up in webbing on the ceiling, but no sign of the actual arachnid. The man behind him kept his guard up, following the webbing to only hear some rustling noise.
"Your wife, huh? She dead?"
"No, I'm positive she's fine, but we got separated by this..worm thing...s***, heads up, buddy!" the man said, pointing at the large creature on the wall. Jake was about to shoot when egg sacks began ripping open and spiders the size of their heads had been scurrying out at them, shooting what seemed like some sort of acid at them.
"AH GROSS!" Jake grunted, taking shots at the smaller things while the other man had shot at the bigger one. Jake looked back at Amanda, reaching onto his belt and taking it off, tossing it to her. There were ten shells left.
"Use my shotgun!"

"Can you see them? The cameras dont seem to go inside these stores!" Katie wasnt able to see them inside the store, only th zombies crowding the front, and the glass starting to crack. "Amanda, the glass it breaking!" Amanda quickly grabbed the shotgun and belt, crouching behind the counter. "Dammit!" She began to reload it manually, all seven shells fit nicely, and she belted the rest over her shoulder. After taking the good ten seconds reloading the gun, she pumped it once, and then raised it up to fire. Blasting a shell in to the spiders torso exploded it into chunks on the ground, watching it fall onto its back shuttering before death.
Popping behind the other counter, she looked at the now free door to the next store from the back, but there was a problem. The windows and doors finally broke in at the front, and Amanda saw the infected starting to flood the place. Staring at the infected with the shotgun, she shook a little but before hearing the radio go off once again. "Run Amanda, run!" Amanda ran back to the back of the place, running in the door with Jake and the other man, closing it behind her.
Looking around, the front gate to this store seemed to be locked from the outside. Amanda saw a vent in the corner leading outside as well, she could use that to get out there and unlock it. Throwing the gun onto a table, she ran for the cent, jumping and pulling herself in. "Hold on..." She echoed back to Jake. Crawling through, she leaped down to th ground, and then looked at the padlock on the gate. She tried kicking it with her foot, but couldnt get it to break. Seeing a bench behind her, she tried lifting it, but it was bolted to the ground. She didnt want to, but it was her only option. Pulling out her handgun, she back against the wall, and held the barrel point blank to the lock. Firing once, it smashed to the ground in two pieces. Sliding it open, she yelled to the two inside. "Lets go!"

Jake and the man had pulled the sliding doors apart, slipping through and running behind Amanda, sending bullets off at some of the infected that tried squeezing through the opening. Jake slid to a halt, the heels of his shoes creating a slippery, squeaking skid mark on the polished floor when he noticed those little buggers still scuttering after them.
"Guh, disgusting little bastards...Argh!" he shouted, feeling something prickly crawling in his jacket. He batted and wiggled around silly-like, trying to get it off. He felt it going toward his neck before grasping ahold of it and chucking it at a wall.
"Gross! Gross! f**kING DISGUSTINGLY GROSS!" he echoed, catching up with the chuckling duo before him. As they sprinted down the halls, fleeing passed stray undead, Jake touched the call button on the side of his radio.
"Katie! Are there any clear areas this way? We gotta get the hell out of this mall, pronto!"

Amanda and the other man ran off with Jake down the section of the mall at top speed, listening and waiting for Katie to respond. She knew that this mall was blocked from the main entrance plaza, and the back entrance was locked up electronically. The only way out was either of those doors, as far as her expirence with this mall went. Shes been in this place before, during the first outbreak. The layout was the same now as it was before, just new stores.
Katie scanned the mall camera for the way out, and it all pointed to the entrance at the South Plaza. The was a parking garage there leading outside, but a control code was needed to get it opened. The only thing was, it had to be manually opened from the security room, since the mall was running off emergency power. "Jake, Amanda, we got a problem. One of us has to stay here to open the door, and unless you can get me off the roof, I cant stay here!"
The other man had heard the woman through the radio, and knew what they had to do. "You two stay here!" The man ran off from the group, he had a better idea. Amanda looked at him before leaving with an honest look, she trusted him. Her of all people had a problem with trust, ever since she was little. But she trusted him surprisingly. But just when things were looking up, Amanda noticed that there was trail of blood from where the man ran off. "Jake, look..."
After a good five minuts, the man showed up in the security room, holding his upper leg tightly after the good run. "Alright, you ladies go meet up with your friends in the South Plaza, im gonna stay here and open the doors for you guys. Considor it a goodbye present..." The tough man grinned, as Katie grabbed her camera and quickly went into the vents with Kaiah. They were grateful, just didnt know what to say to express it. A thank you wouldnt be enough for human sacrifice. Katie made her way with Kaiah to the South Plaza, and saw the others holding up in the flood court, waiting for the man to return.
But then the radio went off, and a famillier voice came through the speakers. "Alright everyone, it was nice knowing you... Get out of here while you can, and dont worry about me! Laaaater... Peace!" The radio silence clicked, as there was no more contact with the security room. The door to the mall began to raise up, allowing everyone to squeeze under and escape onto the streets.

Jake and the others had made it to safety, standing at the exit of the mall while the chained gates had closed once more, locking all the undead inside. Kaiah had frowned and lowered her head, silently. Jake sighed and patted her back before glancing at the others. "Alright, let's head off. I think it's a good idea to leave Raccoon altogether. There's nothing left for us here," he told the women before walking ahead of the group.
Kaiah followed suit, looking back at the mall again. As the group continued through the streets, Kaiah had noticed her old apartment building was down the road. Her husband had ammunition stored away in their bedroom so that would be pretty helpful.
"Jake, let's head to the apartments up ahead. There's some supplies in my apartment that might be helpful. Can't believe I hadn't thought about that, hah!"
Jake frowned. "Uhhh, you sure you can handle going back there, Kaiah?"
"Why wouldn't I be able to?"
Jake rubbed the back of his head. "Well, erm, that's were your husband and children..."
Kaiah looked at her older brother momentarily before smiling a little, holding back her tears. Her face reddened and it felt like her entire body had tensed. "I-It's fine. I want to get something from there anyways...something I need," she explained.
Jake nodded warily at his sister. "Alright, c'mon then girls," he began.
[Jake and the girls are now in City Center Apartment Complex.]

Since abandoning his previous safe house, Jack has been moving largely without a plan. His long-term hope was to make it to some remote and pleasant place untouched by the outbreak, but he didn’t have the slightest clue where that place might lie or how he was going to travel any sizable distance in this extremely hostile world. Questions like those, however, are easy to set aside when you’ve an empty belly and nothing to fill it with. Whatever he does down the road, he needs to find food now.
Jack, revolver in hand, walks softly as he can as he approaches the checkout aisle of a large store hopefully still stocked with imperishables and takes several plastic bags. He makes a mental shopping list and makes his way toward the canned goods. Each time he passes an aisle, Jack expect some creature to leap out and kill him in an instant. Each time it doesn’t happen, he’s half disappointed. He begins to hurry after becoming spooked from a faint shuffling noise, isn’t quite sure whether he imagined it.
He stops when he notices an aisle devoted to office supplies. He jogs down it, dropping a spiral bound notebook, box of pens and a permanent market into of the shopping bags. As he finishes, a gurgling noise causes him to turn to face the direction from which he just came. A putrid figure stumbled towards him, dressed in the bloodstained remains of a suit must have been hanging from for ages.
Dropping his shopping bags, Jack grips his weapon with both hands and points it at the monster. It is clearly a zombie, but Jack is compelled to say:
“Sir, say something if you are not dead.”
It lets out an odd croak and continues to approach. Jack fires once, missing wildly. The creature hastens, and Jack fires five more times. He can’t tell how many times he has hit the monster, or where but it falls a few feet from him and begins to crawl. Taking a step back, Jack dumps the spent cartridges from his revolver, digs the box of bullets from his pocket and loads one chamber. Allowing it to get just a bit nearer, he takes aim at the head and fires, destroying it.
A dragging sound from somewhere brings his attention to a new danger. Nervously shooting glances down both sides of the aisle, Jack reloads his revolver. After a moment spent frozen in fear, he picks up the bags with his left hand and sprints away, looking for the canned goods. Passing first a section stocked with packs of water bottles he begins pulling them from their packs and stuffing them individually into a shopping bag- he doesn’t intend to haul around a box of 25. After taking half a dozen, Jack stands still, listening. The dragging sound continues, but he can’t pinpoint its location. He begins to work himself up into a panic, but know that if he is unwilling to brave a few zombies for his food, he’ll eventually starve to death. He takes a deep breath and runs on.
Reaching shelf full of canned soup, he takes a dozen without paying heed to the type. Silence. Jack collects himself, and walks toward the front door from whence he entered. The dragging is behind him now, and faster. He turns around to find a morbidly obese zombie rapidly pulling itself after him by its forearms. Surprised by the speed with which this new adversary is moving, Jack runs. It's too close: he doesn’t trust himself to line up an accurate shot by the time it reaches his ankles.
He turns and runs through a door marked “Employees Only,” where he finds himself amidst palettes of products yet to be stocked, and another walking corpse. He hopes a door against a wall provides him an escape, but opens it to find a closet stocked with cleaning supplies. Both zombies, the shambling one and the crawling one, are just yards away from him. He jumps in the closet, slams the door shut, and leans back, still tightly gripping the handle. The closet is now pitch black. Maybe, maybe they can’t break the door down with their bare hands.
Suddenly, Jack become quite certain that he is about to die.
