Once Jake exited the room Joseph nodded to himself. He still had his flashlight being aimed everywhere, but he didn't need to aim it as much anymore now that Jake was out.
Joseph nodded again at Jake's plan, "Alright sounds good."
He put away his gun, and then he took out his baton. Now that another human was nearby he wouldn't need a fast killing weapon, and he could reserve his ammo. Joseph looked at the stairwell door and somehow he knew sooner or later something bad would happen.
Joseph turned to Arnett answering, "Ask Jake if he wants to tell he will tell, but I may have no right to."
Joseph looked around again and said, "We should get moving Arnett."

Jake crept slowly down the hallway. He reached the stairwell door and looked inside the window. So far, he saw nothing, but that didn't mean something wasn't lurking upstairs or in the shadows.
He didn't want to tell Arnett, but not because he was ashamed of it... it was because he didn't want to lie either... and Arnett needed to know who.. or what he was.
"I'm going to Fort Belvoir to kill the Colonel in charge there." He gave Arnett a frank look to gauge how he would take it. When Arnett didn't put a round through his head, he went on.
"He sold out my squad to a group of mercs. The other members were killed and I was captured. I woke up to find myself being injected with something and then I passed out. Each time I woke up, my body would be changed. They made me into some sort of BOW."
To make a point, Jake drug his fingers has hard as he could against the wall. Four grooves were cut into it as easily as a hot knife cuts through butter.
"I can slice through anything up to and including Kevlar. The hotter I get, the more I lose control. The more I lose control, the more the zombies ignore me, but the faster my body is used up."
He gave Josepeh and Arnett a bitter smile. "Great bit of irony, I suppose. The calmer I am, the longer I live, but the more dangerous the undead are to me."
Jake motioned to the door and counted down from three and then pulled the door open. He shown his light into the shadows of the stairwell, but nothing was there. As he entered the stairwell, he heard crashing coming from the lobby. The zombies had finally broken through the windows and were spilling into the lobby. Jake motioned for the others to enter and then he closed the door and wedged the chair between the door and the first step.
Even though the door opened outward, the undead were too stupid to pull it open. They would just push on it until it gave. The chair would add support. Up above, Jake heard a moan. Then he looked over at Arnett.
"Room 338. Let's go."

" I'd kill the bastard slow" he said thinking about what he jsut heard. the guy was a B.O.W and infected with one of the virus varients or a new one. He pulled out his small PDA which house information on the infections cycling until he hit the area about the virus types. It could have been a variant of the T-Virus or the NE-a or any other dozen Umbrella made goops.
" The virus consumes all eventually you know" he said with a smile " Maybe this one is a slow one and you have another fifty years to kick about". Arnett turned when he heard the doors shatter then back towards the door " Hope there is another way out, sounds like th lobby is a no go zone". Arnett stacked on the door and gave them a nod before he kicked it open.

Joseph nodded as Jake spoke. He knew of this story already since the car ride. So, it was all old knews to him. For some reason though Arnett didn't seem as startled about it. Maybe he was used to such things. He was a part of the military after all.
Joseph continued into the stairwell after Jake and Arnett, and he heard the sound of breaking glass. He snapped his fingers, because he knew the glass wouldn't hold, and now hordes of undead would be after them.
Joseph turned around from time to time to make sure no undead were following them, but he did hear the constant banging now on the stairwell door. So, He waited for Jake and Arnett's next move.

"Distance is always the best defense in their case", Jake said, mounting the stairs. He took them two at a time until he had reached the landing between the 1st and 2nd floors. Then he stopped and trained his gun upward.
"I'll take point. Be careful at the 2nd landing though. It is slick with dried blood."
Jake had seen it drip down onto the steps. He carefully, but steadily made his way up the stairwell. At the second level, he stopped to make sure the door was secured, but he didn't open it. Their goal was 338... that was one more flight up.
As Jake rounded the corner to head up to the 3rd floor, he encountered the corpse of a half eaten man. His arms had been torn off and bite marks covered his torso and face. One leg was mangled and missing from the knee down, but the other one was intact.
It was with this leg that the man was pushing himself down the stairs toward Jake. Jake lifted his gun and put a round through the man's head, putting him down for good.
"We only have one more landing to the 3rd flo..." The rest never made it out of his mouth.
From up above, the sound of moans came echoing down the stairwell. Jake's shot had awoken a mass of undead that were up on the upper floors. The moans were now followed by the banging and tumbling as the mass of undead crashed their way down the stairs.
"Gotta go", yelled Jake back down at Joe and Alex. He sped up to the third floor and threw the door open. He made a quick search of the corridor to find it empty. Up above a head with snapping jaws came rolling down the stairs. If it hadn't been so dangerous, Jake would have laughed. He shot the head as it came to rest in the corner. The stairs leading down from the 4th floor began to bow under the pressure of the undead. Jake stepped into the third floor corridor and waved the others to hurry up... the stairwell wouldn't hold for long.
:: EDIT 12-03-11 ::
Jake made it to the top of the stairs that led to the third floor. He stopped at the door and put his hand on the doorknob. He caught his breath and looked through the window. Down below, he heard the chair snap like kindling and the door break open. He pictured a mob of undead mashing their way up the stairs. It would be hours... days before they made it up, but it also meant that this way was blocked off. He pulled the door open and stepped into the hallway. Coming out of the doorway, a walker turned in their direction... promptly getting his head blown off by Jake.
"Let's go." he said. "Room 338 is just down the hallway." Walking quickly he led the group to the door. He put the key in the door and opened it slightly. Then he nodded to the group and yanked it open.
Inside, two zombie in army uniforms charged them. Two headshots later they were put down.
"We need to get what we can and get to the next room."

Joseph called, "Come Arnett." He followed after Jake who was making his way up the stairwell. He heard a few shots then the loud sound of many moans above him. That could not be good and the the stairwell door that Joseph had gone through now had the sound of moans behind it, and the sound of pounding on it.
Joseph caught up to Jake, but before he whent through the door he looked up the stairway. He saw multiple zombies fumbling over each other to get down to Jake and Joseph. "Crap," Joseph said to himself.
Joseph ran through the door and closed it behind him. He ran after Jake who was down the hallway now at room 338. When he finally caught up to Jake he noticed the two dead military zombies.
Joseph nodded and entered the room. "You should check the military men they may have some supplies I'll check around," He said moving around the room. He found a small fridge near the back of the room. He opened and found a few bottles of unopened water bu that was about it. He took the drinks and stuffed them into his pack.
Joseph ran back over to Jake seeing if he was ready to move on yet.

Close quarters combat was always a unique challenge, especially when facing the undead. Fresh from his rotation back home, Simon slapped the charging handle on his G3, calmly moving the expended magazine into a drop pouch on his back as the first undead moved in. Two rounds clean through the head and out through the base of the skull stopped this one in particular in its tracks, and the crosshairs of the ACOG were already on the next target. Only three maximum could reach him, and Simon's steady hand kept a comfortable distance between him and the infected.
It wasn't a fair fight by any means. These former people were unaware of their actions, and Simon wasn't pleased with this recon mission. Anything involving the undead had him displeased, simply because killing these former people on such a visceral scale was brutal. Much better to sterilize them from high above in an orbiting bomber, Simon believed, but field data was still necessary to track the evolution of the virus and BOW's.
Moving carefully, Simon made sure to carefully make his way around corners, "slicing the pie" as the technique was known, keeping a level gaze downrange. Maneuvering a full rifle was somewhat difficult in close quarters, so Simon instead slung his longer weapon and drew his USP, clicking the thumb safety off as he slowly put one foot in front of the other.

As Joseph went to the fridge to check out its contents, Jake began to rummage through the pockets and belts on the soldiers.
The first thing he did was remove their names from the uniforms and handed them to Arnett for logging. Then he picked through their pockets. He came up with nothing except that one of them still had his sidearm in his holster. He picked it up and checked the mag, popping it out. It was empty, but the gun, a Beretta M9, with a 15 round magazine, seemed to be in good order. Jake tossed it in his bag. He would take it apart and reassemble it to make sure it was in working order before he operated it.
The backpacks revealed more to his liking. He was able to find the battery pack that Arnett was looking for as well as two MRE's. He tossed the pack to Arnett and then tossed one of the MRE's to Joe. He couldn't find anything else that seemed useful in the room.
Plus the sound of pounding on the stairwell door was becoming more insistent.
"Okay, one more room to go and we can't use that same staircase. There is one at the other end that we can check. If need be, we can take the fire escape up."
What was that room number again. Jake knew it was on the 4th floor. Oh, that's right, Room 442. That would put it almost directly above them. Taking point again, Jake led the group out of the room. He was quiet as he listened to the sounds coming from behind the shut doors. He also took care when passing by open doors, looking for something to come lurching out after him.
Back at the other end of the hotel, the door from the stairwell crack and bowed in on its hinges. Undead came spilling out into the hallway. They all turned and shambled in pursuit of Jake, Joe and Arnett.

((Wow I'm having a huge mental block so if my post is bad I'm sorry also I thought we were ditching Arnett?))
Joseph caught the MRE. He stuffed them in his pack and then got ready to go. "You first," he said waiting for Jake to open the door.
When Jake finally opened the door Joseph heard a large crack somewhere from outside the room. That couldn't be good.
"Well from what I hear out there Jake it dosn't sound good, so what's the plan?" Joseph asked Jake. Why did he always get stuck in these situations. Well it was hard not to get got in them in a zombie infested world.

[ooc - just throwing him one more bone and putting him in a room where his character would be safe]
Jake looked over at Joseph and then back at the horde of grabbing arms and snapping teeth. He quickened his pace to the other stairwell.
"We check out the last room and then head for the roof. Once there, we take the fire escape back down to the truck and get the hell out of here."
They finally came to the stairwell door and Jake opened it up. He brought up his gun in time to catch the first undead in the head and put it down. It fell back, knocking the other zombie down the stairs. Jake stepped over it quickly and began to make his way up to the 4th floor. He took the steps two at a time until he came to the very top landing. Luckily they hadn't met any more zombies, but the moans and slamming from below let him know that this route was not one they could take for evac.
He pulled open on the door and stuck his gun into the corridor, swinging the muzzle from side to side. Then he stepped in. It was eerily quiet and nothing seemed to move... not even the air.
"There", he said pointing down the hallway. "Is room number 442. Let's go." He moved down the hallway sighting through open doors with his M16, ready to shoot anything that moved. He approached the door to 442 and slide the card in.
Nothing happened.
He did it again.
Still nothing. Shining his light on the electronic lock, he saw that it was burned out. A quick kick later and the door flew open.
It wasn't quite the motherload, but it was more than the other rooms. Inside, sitting on the bed as a weapons crate. The lid was off on the floor, but there might be something in there. Over in the corner was an emergency radio... the kind you wind up and didn't take batteries. A quick examination of the bathroom led to a corpse in an army uniform, dead in the bathtub... a self inflicted gunshot to its skull. Drooping from its hand was SIG-Sauer P229. Jake grabbed it and checked it for ammo, removing the mag and tossing them both in his backpack. Then he came back into the bedroom where the crate was on the bed.
He smirked a bit at Joseph. "Shall we see what Santa left us?"
He flipped the lid over. Inside, he found a Mossberg 500 Cruiser and a box of shells for it. There was also two boxes of .40 S&W and 1 box of 9mm. Jake quickly sorted the ammo, keeping the 9 and one box of the .40 for himself and giving Joe the other box of .40.
Since he was already carrying a couple of weapons, he offered the shotgun to Joe.
"Merry Christmas."

((Sorry for lateish post computer virus is ravaging my other comp. Also your name scares me!))
Joseph scratched his head and followed Jake to the next stairwell. While Jake took care of azombie in the stairwell Joseph looked back down the hall. The undead horde was larger than he imagined as they stumbled over each other just to reach Jake and Joseph.
Once Joseph heard the sound of tumbling zombies he followed Jake up the stairwell. A few steps up and they were finally to the floor with the last room.
Finally the two of them had reached the last room though. "Finally," Joseph said to himself.
Joseph took the shotgun and the ammo. "Merry Christmas eh to bad Santa is probably a flesh eating monster also if he did exist," Joseph said.
Joseph rubbed his eyes he was ready to hit the road again.. They had been in the hotel for long enough, and now most likely the whole hotel of zombies were probably heading up the stairs to try and eat Jake and Joseph.
"Well we got what we came for let's move," Joseph said to Jake.

Jake nodded and delayed only long enough for Joseph to load the shotgun and to check his own ammo supply. The M16A4 was fully loaded and ready to go, but it had jammed earlier so Jake was a bit leery. His sidearm the Glock 22 was fully loaded and he had enough mags to put down quite a few walkers.
Then he moved to the door and looked out. The way that had come up was a no-go. Even if they made it to the stairwell, there was a greeting party that they didn't want to meet. At the other end of the corridor was an ordinary window and just through it Jake could see the railing of the fire escape.
If they could make it to the fire escape, then they could make it down to the ground and back to the Hummer.
"Down the hallway, to the fire escape, back to the truck... onto Washington DC."
Then he began to make his way down to the window. About halfway there, the door of the stairwell behind him broke and the undead spilled out. The first couple were crushed under the weight of the others, but it was like a rush of water towards them.
Jake quickened his pace. As he approached, he lifted his rifle and shot a three round burst through the window, shattering it. Then he used the butt of his gun to break out any remaining fragments of glass. Hoisting himself through he started down the stairs.

Joseph finished loading up his shotgun that he just got. He cocked the barrel and followed Jake out of the door. Joseph followed keeping up with Jake.
As Joseph and Jake walked along the hallway towards the fire escape window, the hotel doors bursted open one after another. At one point a zombie almost got Joseph, but he quickly shot the beast off of him.
The zombies had now completely filled the halls and were heading to wards the window fast. Joseph jumped through the window and followed Jake down.
"The zombies should be coming through in few seconds or so," Joseph called down to Jake.
This day sucked in all ways to Joseph. The only thing that could make it worse would be zombie dogs or one of those B.O.W.s Jake talked about.

Jake was taking the stairs two at time down the fire escape. He was aware of Joseph behind him, but his eyes were scanning the alley. Just near the corner of the building was the HumVee.
"Over there", he said, pointing over to the vehicle. Now it was fairly open as the undead had swarmed the building. There was a body that fell to the ground just to the shoulder. The undead were coming through the window and just falling to the ground 4 stories down. Their heads, if they landed on them popped like a cork on a bad bottle of wine.
As he neared the bottom, he jumped to the ground and popped off a 3 round burst that took a zombie's head clean off. As it fell to the ground, Jake was past it and aiming at the next one. He didn't worry about the ones behind him. They wouldn't catch up to him unless the ones ahead of them slowed them down too much.
As Jake neared the truck he hit the button on his key, popping the locks. Then, with a quick burst at one last zombie, he sprinted for his car, hopping in and shutting the door. As Joe jumped in, Jake fired up the truck and shoved it into gear. Then he slammed his foot on the accelerator and the truck jumped forward.
"Well that was an almost total waste of time. Let's get to Washington."

The zombies from the hotel were now all out of the window and heading down after Jake and Joseph. Joesph looked up and just started after Jake faster. Finally though they reached the bottom of the stairs, the zombies though were still after them.
Joseph ran to catch up with Jake. The mass of zombies were now down the stairs and heading to wards the Humvee. That could not be good. Finally, though Jake unlocked the door. Joseph opened the door quickly, looking back at the zombies one more time, and then he heard growling. Among the zombies were a few zombie dogs who were now running to wards the car.
Joseph quickly jumped into the car, and closed the door.
"Floor it now Jake," he said watching the dogs approach.
Joseph's head slammed against the back of the of his chair as the car accelerated, leaving the zombies and there dogs behind them. That was a close one for the two of them.
"I agree Chicago has been more than exciting enough for me, now I'm ready just to go somewhere else," Joseph said trying to laugh.
