Jake brushed and plucked black feathers off of his clothing, grumbling curses. Directing his sight on the camera's screen, he cringed. "I've seen one of those before. Of course I had some trouble taking it on. In fact, I couldn't even kill it because it was so damned fast."
He grabbed ahold of the camera a little, pulling it toward him sohe could get another good glimpse. Because the woman was shorter than he was, he scoffed. "Can you let go? I'm not gonna steal it," he said, chuckling. Katie reluctantly let go, allowing him to see the photo.
Squinting he handed it back to her. "Yup. Definitely seen the ugly bastard before...wait, how long have you been in this city...?" he asked, reaching into his jacket pocket to pull out his photograph.

Katie put the camera back around her neck, and then turned it off. She needed to save all the battery power she could, even though there was a bunch of spares in her pouch. Along with a wall charger, some places still had power in this city. She looked at Jake, and then responded with a hint of boldness in her tone. "I never left, id be missing too much... Besides. Theres nowhere to go, so I figured id make the best of here..."
It was true, the city was the center for the outbreak, and she would be happy enough staying here to gather us much information about it as possible. Katie was already aware of how the first outbreak happened, and who was behind it, but it wasnt long before it was made public anyways. This time around, she wanted to know first hand. But before that, she needed to find a scoop. "Im not just taking this pictures for fun, ya know... I plan on exposing the truth..." Just then, there was a loud crash in the hallway around the corner.

Jake quirked an eyebrow at the woman. "Expose the truth...? To whom? You do know that the entire world is infected right? Well, maybe a country that's not the U.S. is clear, maybe, but I've traveled all the way here from Texas. Everywhere and just about everyone is dead."
Just as he finished explaining that to her, there was a loud crash from the end of the hall. He looked over in that direction, a scowl playing on his features. He looked over at the wall's plate, reading, "<--Rooms 245 - 260." They must've been somewhere near the 13th floor at least. He wasn't gonna stop his search just for some stupid bird.
Jogging over to the corner, he pressed his back against the wall, readying himself to look around it and spot the menace. It's a good thing he didn't, seeing as how, as soon as he was about to, a long, sharp tongue whipped passed him, penetrating the wall.
"Holy f**king..." he trailed off.

Kaite gave herself a pout, that was wasnt going to expose the truth. She did all of this for herself, not for fame. Hearing the creature after Jake had went to investigate, she quickly and quietly went over to his side, and then jolted her eyes. "Speak in a low tone, and lets move very, very quietly..." Shuffling against the wall, Katie moved to the doorway, and slowely turned the knob.
By now, the creature was around the corner, but so long as they stayed quiet, it wouldnt know their was two of them. They would be able to play a game of hide and go seek, until Jake was able to get a shot from behind with that shotgun of his. As soon as she caught his face looking her direction, Katie motioned for his back. "Lets move around it first..."

Jake's grip tightened around his weapon as he carefully maneuvered around the monster. It crawled around slowly, low clacking noises emitting from it's massive claws against the tile. Jake grimcaced a little as he pulled on Katie's arm, pulling her behind him and pushing her back a little.
He nodded his head towards the staircase nearby, motioning for her to go on ahead. The two backed away slowly, inching closer to the steps. Unknowingly, Jake backed into a cart with old, stacked dishes, sending them crashing down onto the floor.
The thing whipped around, lunging towards them with it's claws drawn inthe air. Jake pulled back, knocking Katie tothe ground and bipedaling backwards, both of them barely missing the attack. Fortunately, the thing's arm was stuck inside the wall now. Jake stood up, holding his now injured arm. "Gah! f**k that hurt...ugh..." he groaned, raising up his shotgun. It put some strain on the muscle.
"Ah! Dammit!" he yelled, managing to line up the shotgun and the creature, pulling the trigger and blowing apart it's back. It screeched and wiggled around, trying to get to him. He pumped the shotgun, clenching his teeth from the pressure, and pulled the trigger again, tearing up it's exposed brain. The thing stopped moving momentarily, it's body swaying beneath it as it was still stuck to the wall.
He lowered his shotgun and held his arm tightly, muttering curses. "Dammit..."
Suddenly the thing started violently jerking around, emitting another loud screech. With one, strong tug, it's claws released and it lunged at Katie. Jake was in no potition to shoot now."Katie!" he yelled.

It was too late now, the creature knew they were here. But it was an honest mistake, and Jake had the situation pretty much under control. Sprinting through the room and out the other side, Katie moved into the hallway, and then got a glimpse of the action from the opposite side. Seeing the shotgun shells tear through the monster, she covered herself, not wanting to get peices on her cloths.
As Richard yelled for her, she was already set to shoot, direction the sights forward. Dropping the camera, Katie pulled out her gun, and then fired three rounds into his exposed brain, the third stopping it dead in its tracks. Breathing, she looked back at Jake, and then lowered her gun. The thing was finally dead. Katie walked toward the body, and got a closer zoom of the broken skin around its cranium with the camera. "Thats... Insane... It looks like the membrane was being protected..."

Stomping his boot on it's brain, Jake sneered. "Doesn't matter now, does it? It's dead," he told her, patting her shoulder. "Good shot, by the way. Now come on. I wanna get up to the 15th floor..." he finished, hurrying up the steps. The next two floors were oddly clear. Save for a zombie here or there. Jake kept his eyes on the room numbers as they walked passed doors. Finally he had found Room #310. He reached for the door knob, shakily, turning it only to find it locked.
"What the hell?" he muttered, pushing on the door. Sighing, he pointed the barrel of the gun at the door knob, pulled back and let off a round, destroying the knob. With a straight kick to that charred area, the door flew open, allowing a body to fall forward onto him. He reached his arms out, grasping under the person's arms.
"Woah!" he yelled, holding the corpse up. It looked almost like...His eyes widened. "Kaiah...?" he said lowly. The girl was indeed his younger sister...but it looked like she was on the verge of dying.
The man held onto her tightly, his eyes trying to keep back some tears. So they were here after all? If that's the case then what happened to his sister? Looking down at her arm, he noticed she had a jagged, bite mark that was profusely bleeding. Staring at it in horror, he looked back at his little sister's face as it twisted in pain.
"She...she's infected...Kaiah..." he said lowly. He looked passed her to the inside of the empty room. "My mom and dad...they must've locked her in here after she..." he trailed off in thought. The girl began to jerk violently in his arms, some of her scraped up skin flaking and sliding onto his hands when he tried to gain a grip on her.
"I can't kill her...I just...can't..." he told Katie, looking down at his sister. The corpse started to move, it's mouth hanging open now. It was beginning to re-animate. He suddenly let her go and stood to his feet, backing away. "Come on Katie. We gotta go. Now."

Katie followed Jake up the stairs, but she was moving a bit slower then him. The camera had her attention, she was trying to compare the two creatures, the one from now and the one she saw back then. It looked as if they were different, the same kind, but they had a different head. The one from before seemed to be more bare, while this one had a protective membrane covering its vital points.
Turning the camera off, she looked up in a hurry when Jake was speaking. Walking into the room, Katie watched as he held a girl, who wasnt one of them. But she was a gonner. When Jake ordered him and her to leave, Katie couldnt, she just stayed and stared at the girl on the floor, now starting to move. If he wont kill her, then she would. Raising her handgun toward the infected, she fired a round into her head as she stood up, putting her back to the floor...

Jake turned around almost immediately as he heard the shot go off. His eyes widening, he grabbed Katie by her arms, shaking her a little. "What the hell did you do?! Whywould you do that?!" he yelled at her, his eyes finally letting a coupla small tears trail downhis face. He let go of her and looked back down at the corpse, grieving.
For a moment he was contemplating on pulling his weapon out on her to see how she felt about it. But somehow he knew what she did was the right thing. Even if it hurt him. Running a hand across his face, he wiped under his eyes, thinking for a second. Before long he looked back at the woman and shook his head.
"I'm sorry. Just...I know I shouldn't want to leave her to turn into one of those monsters but...I'd rather let her rather than kill her...making her suffer death again..." he said quietly, moving away from the body. He started for the staircase before stopping as his hand brushed against the railing.
"She was my kid sister..." he told her, sighing and walking down the steps. "...I'm sorry," he finished as he was in mid-step.

Katie lowered her gun, and then turned to Jake. She knew it would be hard for him, it was hard for her the first time she had done it, or even saw it. But it was good that even Jake could agree that it was the right thing to do. She did feel a little bad for him, though, nobody ever really gets used to death. Katie turned and spoke. "Is alright... It was bound to happen sometime..."
Katie was in no way a cold individual, but the outbreak made her a bit more strong, and she always delt with the truth. It was better they killed Jakes sister then somebody else, or let her kill them. In the long run, this set Jake up for more justice, he would be more aware of what the virus can do to a person, first hand expirence. But just then, Katie heard footsteps out in the hallway, near the stairwell. "I hate to rush, but... We should get out of here..."

Jake held up his firearm and nodded, understandingly. "Right...You've never seen her before have you? My sister that is. She lived around here...She was one of the people I'm searching for," he told her as they made it to the next floor below. As they exited the stairwell, he could make out some rustling and shuffling. He put his arm out infront of Katie as a notion forher to stop.
As she did so, he looked around at the culprit. Or rather, culprits. A few of the undead seemed to have learned how to climb up and down stairs fairly well. Of course he never doubted them. They were in some ways, still very human. They probably were reflecting on old memories of basic physics. They were liable to do plenty of things we were, atleast with instinct ontheir side.
Luckily this didn't really include opening and closing doors. Jake grinned a little, but felt some guilt at his newfound spectrum of humor. "We can either waste ammo on them or we can take the other way around. Or..." he began, looking across at the windows.
"Or we can take a fire escape. Your call. I'm game for whatever."

"...Then were going to the fire escape!" Katie ran for the stairwell, toward the infected, but they could get up to the rooftop the fastest there. She leaned against the door, blocking the infected from getting through while they moved for the stairwell. As Jake passed but, Katie released the door, and then darted up with him.
Making it to the roof, she pushed open the exit door behind Jake, looking around the railings of the building for the fire escape. Seeing the grates railing in the corner, she moved toward it, and then peered down. As she did this, the exit door burst open, as the infected stumbled through. "Down!" Katie moved her legs down, quickly climbing down the metal bars as fast as she could, and hoping that Jake could hold them off enough for himself to get down aswell.

Jake spun around and aimed his shotgun's barrel at the group of infected. He looked over his shoulder and down at Katie, ensuring her safety. "Hurry up or I'm zombie chow!" he called out. Looking back at the group he scowled, cocking the shotgun and pulling on the trigger, sending a scattering effect and knocking down the first three of them.
He looked back over his shoulder to see Katie looking back up and waving at him to 'Come on'. He turned around and went for the metal bars. As he did, he was grabbed by one of the things and pulled back onto the roof. "f**k! Get off!" he yelled, sending his elbow back into one's decaying jaw, snapping it.
The thing, however, kept it's grip. Before long Jake struggled to get free but managed to pry it's hands off of him only to get two more ontop of him. He gritted his teeth, keeping one's mouth at bay and the other's hands off of him. He kicked one of them off and grabbed his weapon, turning his upperbody up and blasting a shell into it's head, destroying half it's face. He crawled away and got to the edge once more.
Quickly reloading, he pumped the shotgun and sent the next two shells through the group, holding them off. After that bought time, he strapped the shotgun back onto his back and grabbed ahold of the ladder, climbing down as fast and carefully as he possibly could.
Reaching the bottom, he let himself drop and bounced on his heels a little. "Miss me?" he joked, dusting himself off.

"Yeah... But apparently they do too!" Katie looked up, and saw the infectly hurling themselves off the rooftop. The brainless corpses didnt know when to give up. She backed away from the building, screaming as one landed beside her. She moved fast away, mot looking back. "He have to get off the streets!"
Katie stopped, and then pulled out her camera, pointing it up at the rooftop. Clicking a few times, she got a decent shot of the infected falling, and one of them on the ground. Turning off the camers, she dropped it down to her chest again, and then pulled out her handgun. After her and Jake moved across the street, Katie had an idea. "We can cut across the cemetary to reach the outskirts, well find someplace to rest there. Sound good?"

Jake ran beside her, contemplating that idea for a moment before grinning. "What the hell kid! Have you not seen a decent B movie before in your life?!" he asked between pants. Chuckling he looked ahead at the cemetary entrance. "There's bound to be some groggy zombies that want out of their graves!"
After getting a satisfied laugh from his partner he stopped in mid tracks, shooting back a few of the undead. Reloading one last time with what he had left of shotgun ammo, he went to catch up with Katie.
"Alright! To the cemetary!" he called out, pointing a finger up as he did so.
