“All right, we’re closing in.” Daniel said, checking the street sign. Three blocks away from here. So far, no opposition. It was still bugging him, what was waiting for them. If Sincell didn’t send anything yet, that had to mean they were planning a nasty ambush.
Just then, as if to make him feel better, they heard the rumble of engines. Big ones.
“Inside!” Daniel snapped, opening the first door he could get to and ushering them in. As he snapped the door shut, he could almost feel the vehicle rumble by. He moved to a nearby window and peeked out, seeing an armed and armored humvee roll by.
“Well, at least we know what their pitching now.” He said, feeling a bit better. A humvee wasn’t that hard to take down. “What do you guys think? To the roof to take this thing down or sneak by and risk getting boxed in at the hospital?” He said.
-------------------------
The sewer grate at the side of the library opened, a rifle peeking out and aiming around before a mans head came out next. He looked around and saw it clear, climbing out and waving the other mercenaries out. Tyson came next, barely squeezing through the hole, and took over scanning the area and covering the manhole while the point man ran to stack up at the side door of the library. The next one came, and he moved up. The pattern repeated until all five were at the door of the building.
“All right, flashbangs in the door and the second story window. Rush in, try to detain all of them.” The leader of the squad said. They all gave the affirmative and one of the men separated, a few feet out. He let his rifle hand and primed two flash grenades. He let the spoon fly off one and lobbed it up. It shattered the window and exploded. He tossed the other to his right hand and threw it through the same window, it exploding a few seconds after. One of the men at the door cracked it open, another throwing two through the crack. They exploded, and the mercs stormed the building.

"Would cut down on our journey if we could take one of their cars right under their noses." Malcom suggested. "Trojan horse, or hummer, whatever you prefer."
He looked out the window taking a look at the vehicle, hard to get an accurate headcount of the occupants.
"Hmm, one of those new black market do it yourself pimp my assault vehicle kits eh? I figure we'd have a few seconds of shock factor before they turn the weapons on our position and radio in for backup. Best bet theoretically would be synchronised sniping at the driver, gunner and front passenger first, then gun down anyone else in the back."
Mal scanned the area for decent sniping points high and low, good choice of rooftops, alleyways and windows.
"Best in one of these streets to keep them funneled, but I'm not going to force anyone to go with my plan if we're better off blasting it out of sight and memory."

Riko looked around the room they were in while the others talked. Elijha just stood back in the shadows and listened. Though she kept her eye on Riko with the way he kept acting toward his sister she didn't trust him all to much. Riko finally returned and glared at Elijha before heading back to Malcom and Daniel.
"There's a door in the back that leads straight up to the roof and alley," he pointed out. "I'm wanting to go with the take them out by the roof idea. Take them down before they can radio for help or that there is any problems going on."
"Wont work," Elijha finally spoke up.
"And why the hell not," he barked back.
"As soon as one of their weapons fires off on us those at the hospital's going to know. Were not that far from there, and the sound will carry. Though I do agree with the roof top take down. There just going to be a problem if we let them roam. Take them out then get to that hospital. Also makes for less people to deal with in the end."
------------------------------------------
As soon as the flash bangs went off on the top floor the men were getting themselves ready for an attack. The Captain of the group was pushing Rio down under the table just as the second ones went off. The ringing sound and the blinding light caused Rio to scream out. She tried her best to cover her head as the others tried to orient themselves to the oncoming attack.

“She’s got a point.” Daniel pointed out. “If we do that, we have to make it perfect. “ He said. He hadn’t thought of them shooting back. It usually wasn’t normal for a gunner to shoot off rounds randomly at a target he couldn’t see, but what if they were seen? What if this guy panicked and did just that? It would spell trouble all around.
“Either way, I’m going up there to survey the area.” He said. “Elijha, with me.” He said. He wanted her with him in case she started to go crazy again. He was sure he could handle her now that he knew it could happen. He didn’t want her alone with Riko. God only knew what he might get in his head if it was jus them. Malcolm was the only one he could fully count on at the moment to be level headed and not snap at the drop of a hat. And he didn’t think Riko would do anything against Malcolm.
He slung his M4 and unsung the M40. He could use it’s scope in place of binoculars. They moved to the back and up the fire escape, Daniel dropping low when they neared the top and dropping to his stomach fully when he got to the roof. He motioned for Elijha to do the same. Crawling to the edge, he popped his head up to get a view of the area, switching to the scope when he located the humvee.
“Five inside.” He said to Elijha. “You were right.” He said. No way in hell they could pull off five perfect kill shots in a few seconds on a moving target, four of which were about ninety percent protected by armor plating. It wasn’t long before his ears caught the sound of another engine. He looked away from the scope and noticed another hummer rounding a corner.
“F**k it all…” He muttered. “At least two hummers now, maybe more.” He pointed out.
-------------------------
The firefight was short. The flashbangs, while not having full effect on the mercenaries of the AFDS, who had probably used them or been under their effect in the past, took enough edge off of the men. The point man of the Sincell team opened fire at the first man he saw, already up and aiming his weapon. He moved to the first cover he could, and fired on another man trying to take cover. The rest of the men entered the building and moved in, going for either non lethal shots or physical maneuvers. The fight was over in a matter of seconds, the AFDS men detained with only one casualty. None of them noticed Rio yet.

Malcom took a quick peak at the window when he heard the second vehicle pass. Apparently the longer they waited the more troops would start patrolling around trying to flush them out, fighting them head on or even ambushing was getting a worse idea with the difference in numbers.
He moved back into cover and pulled up the map on his PDA.
"This island wasn't set up with mass land vehicle use in mind, most of the supplies were bought in by ship or aircraft, then moved around with helicopters or the cable car if it couldn't be carried by people."
He highlighted the main dock and several helipads.
"If one of the fuelling areas was taken out it could distract them for a while, or at least cut down their patrol routes. I think one of us should take that job whilst the others take the rooftop routes, then meet up at the hospital."

"Yeah, and who's going to be the self sacrificing moron to run all the way to the fuiling station to blow the damn thing up. That thing will go up like a fireball and take everything out within a blocks radius," Riko grumbled as he looked out the window. "I say just wait it out. I'm sure there just passing through."
-------------------------------------
Elijha leaned over the building and looked around at the convoy. "They know where here," she whispered under her breath. She looked up the street for a bit and then back to where they came from. "Question is there just driving around why aren't they searching buildings?" she asked looking at Daniel.
-------------------------
Rio noticed that she hadn't been stopped at the moment. She knew that she couldn't exactly get away, but she had to warn the others. She crawled out from under the desk making little to no noise. The movements causing her to bit her lip from the pain. She panted heavily as she reached the desk that had her radio on it. She quickly picked it up and crawled back under the desk. "Daniel, Malcom," she whispered over the radio. "The library has been taken over . . . one down the rest captured . . . be careful."

“When exactly did you turn into a total dick?” Daniel asked Riko, coming in from the roof with Elijha not far behind. “And when did you suddenly take my job?” He asked, referring to the explosive activities. He then turned to Malcolm.
“But… he may have something. Blowing it wouldn’t be a problem, but it’d take too much time. We need to get there soon. Especially now. Looks like a lot of their manpower is occupied.” He said. He turned his head back to Elijah when she asked her question. Good question. “Maybe their trying to smoke us out. Driving around is a lot quicker than searching every building. They could give the whole island a once over by nightfall.
He’d been about to point this out when the radio came to life, Rio’s voice coming in from the library. He listened to her transmission and the static that came after. He looked up at the others and sighed, hanging his head. It made sense now. They figured the AFDS agents would scramble back to the library, fast and sloppy, at which point the Hummer’s would mop up. He knew it wasn’t the smart thing to do, but they had to do something.
“We gotta go back.” He said simply.
-------------------------
The whispers in the otherwise quiet room didn’t bode well for Rio. One of the Sincell mercenaries ducked down to look under the table, pointing his rifle at her and dragging her out by the arm. He shook the radio from her hand and crushed it with his boot before dragging her over to the other group of AFDS men.
“What do we do with them?” One of the mercenaries asked.
“Take em’ in as prisoners.” The largest one said, in a suit of metal armor, wearing a ballistic mask with the visage of a skull on it.
“F**k that, I say we execute em.” One of the men said, holding up his rifle and pointing it at one of the AFDS agents.
“No, our orders are to take them in.” The large one said again.
“Report aint gone in yet, HQ don’t know. Say they all went down in a firefight, no ones gonna question it.” The man said.
“Their still human beings, aint done s*** for all we know. You know HQ don’t have nothing solid, just rumors.” The one in armor said.
“Good enough for me.” The man said, his rifle still aimed. Before anything else was said, he fired a burst of rounds into the captain. He fell to the ground from his knelt position, blood pooling underneath him quickly. The man in armor moved quickly, grabbing the rifle and ripping it out of the shooters hands with little effort. The other men in the Sincell squad pointed their weapons at the giant.
“What the f**k is wrong with you?!” The armored man yelled, using his free hand to lift the mask. He had a large criss crossing scar on the right side of his face, clean shaven and bald. And right now, anger played across his face. “You gonna execute a bunch of people who could be innocent?!” He yelled again.
“Ya, I am.” The man said, a smirk on his face. He pulled a Beretta from his holster and thumbed the hammer back, pointing it at the larger man. “So you with me or against me, Salem?”
Salem reached up, gently grabbing the barrel of the pistol and readjusting the aim to his head. “I didn’t sign on for this. You’ll have to shoot me.” Salem said. The man smirked again and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. He tried once more before turning his weapon to see what the problem was. He barely had a chance to register that the safety had been turned on when Salem reached out and grabbed him. Holding him by the straps of the combat vest, Salem pulled out the Glock on his chest and aimed it out at the crowd of men before he started backing away. As he expected, they started to fire. Most of the rounds were caught by his human shield, a luxury none of the Sincell men could enjoy as 9mm rounds flew from the machine pistol into their bodies. The magazine went dry, and the three were on the ground in various states of injury or death.
Salem dropped the now dead commander of the small squad and looked out at the AFDS agents as he reloaded the Glock. He holstered it and continued looking at the group, wondering what would come next.

Malcom listened to the radio message with the group when they all met up again. Sincell had outmaneuvered them and taken the library cutting them off from intel, they still had the hospital preventing them from finding the first team and their vehicle patrols between both points would be ready to mop them up.
"Those guys out there want us to go back, getting us to panic so they can gun us down faster. Hell, who wants to live forever eh?"
He checked his revolver before borrowing a few grenades and an timed explosive charge from Daniel, leaving the modified radio for Elijahs signal with him.
"Give me a few seconds up top and I'll make sure you three get a clean run back." He started up the stairs to the rooftop. "If I don't make it back, tell Rio and Art that I went down freakin awesome and make up something inspiring."
When he made it up he peaked over to check on the patrols, both hummers moving down the street. Pulling the pin from a grenade he hurled it towards the rear vehicle as it passed. It burst two seconds after hitting the ground, damaging the rear tire and preventing the patrols from turning back towards the library, hopefully clearing some running space for the others.
"Hey goose steppers! twenty points up here!"
He rushed on, firing a few rounds to gain their attention since he couldn't do much damage to the vehicles, the rear group let out some troops who took cover behind the front vehicle as it fired its mounted gun towards the rooftops, thankfully not getting a good view of Malcom as he moved onwards, just getting seen enough to get them to follow.

Rio cried out as the captain was shot. She covered her head and tried her best to curl up as gun fire erupted above her. When she looked out from the breaks that her arms created she could see the captain laying face down in his own pool of blood. She tried her best to move away from him crying slightly as she felt the sharp pain course through her back. "W- why . . . why" she cried under her breath.
-------------------------------------
"Malcom, becareful," Elisha shouted out as he ran out. She followed after Daniel and Riko as they made there way through the back roads in order to avoid anyone who was ahead of them. She crouched down as they approached the last building that shadowed the library. "Alright, so what's the plain. We know they have to have quite a bit in there to over come the men we had in there."

Daniel had wanted to stop Malcolm from doing what he was about to do, but he knew he couldn’t. He and Malcolm were of the same rank, so he couldn’t give the engineer an order. He certainly couldn’t talk him out of it. All he could do was offer up what Malcolm wanted to borrow and wish him good luck.
He handed over the grenades and the C4 charges, not insulting Malcolm’s intelligence by explaining how the detonator on the charge worked. Daniel used real, professional detonators. He’d had bad experiences with home made ones in the past, and would never try to jerry rig one again. The best thing about them was that they were simple. Just like an average timer. Set the minutes and seconds with separate buttons, arm it with another button. Daniel had a switch to disarm charges on his remote, and booby trapped the detonators. They had no exposed wires, plugging a probe directly into the putty like explosive substance. If it was pulled free while armed or the detonator was tampered with in any way, it would explode straight away.
“We’ll meet at the hospital in two hours. Good luck.” He said, moving up the time further than their parameters would have allowed. It would be dark by the time they got there. But depending on what happened, they may end up scrubbing the mission.
He watched as Malcolm left to the roof, heard the explosion and gunfire shortly after. The Sincell soldiers returned fire, occupied with what they assumed was the AFDS force. The others slipped out with relative ease and extreme speed.
It took half the time to get back to the library. Now that they knew the ways were actually clear, with the hummers being occupied, they hauled it to the base that was not theirs anymore.
“All right, odds are everyone’s on the second floor.” He said, motioning for them to enter the building they were taking cover at. They moved to the second floor and stayed hidden, scoping out the area across from them. Daniel only had an angle on the prisoners.
“We have… one man down. That I can see.” He reported, seeing the body in the blood through his scope.
-------------------------
Tyson looked around the room still, wondering what to do now. If his employers were in the right, he’d just killed four good men and was in a room full of terrorists. If they were wrong, he’d killed four men who may or may not have been good and was standing in a room full of God only knew what kind of people. Seemed like a lose lose situation.
He looked around at the AFDS, as they called themselves, and a face stood out. The young woman. Supposed to be the scientist of the group, and as of recently she seemed to be the computer expert as well. He walked over to her and extended his hand, pulling her up gently and leading her to her chair. He could see she was in pain, from what he didn’t know. She hadn’t been shot, hadn’t been assaulted in the raid of the building.
When she was in the chair in front of the computer, he stood to the side. Keeping an eye on her and the men in the room, still on the knees. He could tell by some of the looks they were shooting each other. They were trying to form a plan. A plan to overthrow the single man who had just killed his comrades and secure the area as their own again. He hoped they didn’t try. He didn’t kill people without a reason, and good or bad, if they started shooting, they’d be giving him a reason.
“Your going to help me.” He said to Rio, his mask still up. He recognized the images on the screen. Satellite pictures of the island. If she had them, that meant she had hacked into the satellite. And weather she knew it or not, she was past their security, in their computer network. She could get to almost anything. The satellite was high level protected, ever since it had been taken over by Sincell.
“Your past most of their security measures.” He told her. “They say your terrorists, the people who spread this virus. Their pretty sure you’re the bad guys, but I’m not convinced.” He said, looking over at his former commander. The bastard may have been a bad guy, but not in the way he thought. If he’d have been doing it for pleasure, he’d have drawn it out. If he was a real good guy doing it for revenge, he’d have rationalized it. It seemed more like he was doing it for a reason. Just business.
“Find something that proves the roles are reversed. Lab reports, money statements, a goddamn journal entry. Anything.” He said. He leaned in closer to her, and said in a slightly softer voice.
“And God help me if I just killed four good men for a group of terrorists.” He said, leaving her to think about that as she worked.

Eventually after losing a few of their number, Sincell realised that they couldn't win from the low ground, so they breached one of the houses to try and find a path up to even ground. As the first trooper reached the top of a stairway he caught a facefull of strobe and a chest full of revolver rounds.
"C'mon, as if it wasn't predictible enough that you'd come up here to get us, the jackboot stomping doesn't do you any favours."
Malcom had the stairway in sight and a table tipped over to use as cover. Speaking for multiple people he could keep up the charade of the whole team being with him, stop the troops from catching on about the rest of the group doubling back to the library. Unfortunatly he didn't have enough ammo or range if the were to get their act together. Thinking quick he detached the light and balanced it on the edge of the table, whilst hiding next to the doorway, soon enough a scout rushed in and fired into the table mostly blindly. When he stopped to reload Malcom drove his sword into his stomach and knocked his weapon aside, pushing him to the top of the stairs and raiding him for extra ammo whilst using him as a shield.
"I'm gonna need you to give your buddies a message." He pulled a pin from one of the soldiers grenades on his vest. "I hope they'll get the point."
He pushed him off the end of the blade and rushed back into the room claiming his light and new weapon, an illegal copy of a G11. Making a mental note to check into Sincells arms purchases for his own curiosity, he fell back up to the rooftops again. Two down already, if he paced himself he could probably just make the hospital rendezvous. Hopefully the others had similar luck.

Rio still continued to cry as she looked at the computer. She wanted to look back at the dead captain, but refused to even do that. Even though this man went up against his own me he still scared the hell out of her. After a bit of letting her hands stop trembling she started typing on the computer. It didn't take to long for her to realize that he was right about her being in their system. It wasn't much longer after that she started to pull up any and all files she could fine. She was hoping that something she found would change his mind about them. As she continued to type her tears continued to stream down her face.
-------------------------
Elijha edged through the library looking around at the ground floor. "The second floor is open so if we go in we have to be ready," she said lightly. "Who knows how many they have or how hostile they are. Not to mention there wont be much to hide behind."
"Leave it to Rio to get herself into trouble," Riko mumbled as he scanned the stairs.

“You stow that s*** right now or I’m going to beat the holy f**k out of you!” Daniel snapped, on edge and very angry. Rio was his friend. He’d known her for a long time, and she was in real danger. The team of ten men were captured, couldn’t do anything to protect her. She wasn’t a soldier. He’d seen her shoot before. She flinched every time.
No matter what window he tried, he couldn’t get a good angle. Couldn’t see any hostiles, couldn’t see Rio either. It looked like they were going in.
“Can you climb?” He asked Elijha. She could fight with superhuman ability, that was for sure. If she could do that, maybe she could scale a wall like Spiderman. Wouldn’t be the first time he’d seen a BOW do that. He got them in a huddle and explained his plan.
“If you can, you climb up there, be ready at the window. If you cant, I’ll boost you. You still have to get up there. Riko and I will go in through the first floor. When you hear the signal, you breech the window. We kill em’ all, here and now.” He said, anger in his voice and on his face.
-------------------------
Tyson turned the monitor to look at it, reading a file before he took the mouse and keyboard from Rio so he could read another. He stopped reading after a few minutes, taking a long breath and letting it out in a sigh. He’d been had, from the start. All the way back to Tokyo, they’d been lying to him. He wondered who the “terrorists” in Tokyo were. Private security? Government of some kind? Jump survivors taking refuge? Those motherf**kers…
He stood up and walked over to one of the AFDS men. Sliding his knife out, he slit the plastic cuffs holding the man’s hands behind his back. He did the same with the next one in line and walked back to the computer, looking at the file that changed his mind. A journal. Somewhere where an evil genius could write whatever he wanted and feel completely safe. This entry was about several experiments that had gone wrong. “Must have been a bad breed of POW’s.” It said. It didn’t go into much detail, but it told him what he needed to know. Sincell was dirty. He still didn’t know anything about the AFDS, but he had a feeling they were nothing to worry about. Sincell would have saw them as a threat, manufactured reasons for them to be hunted, and hired the muscle to do it. Making sure to keep that muscle in the dark.
He looked at Rio, his face softened considerably.
“I’m sorry about your friends.” He said sincerely. He’d just taken part in the murder of two innocent men. He had ten or more already on his conscience, ones he thought to be guilty. It was a shock, to say the least.

The hit and run between Malcom and the soldiers had gone on for quite a bit, eventually causing them to call out another squad after a few booby traps took out a good few of their side. Currently they had moved up to the roof and taken opposing cover positions with a flat area between them, unable to risk moving forwards without exposing themselves fully, the fight had degenerated into pot shots. Mal managed to keep a proper rationing of his stolen ammo compared to the Sincell troops who were down to sidearms.
"Tell you what." Mal slapped in a fresh mag. "Why don't we just settle this out in the open, you guys trained with your knives right? We can save what we have left for when we gotta go past the zombies on the way home."
No one bought this for a minute, though they shouted back insincere acceptance before moving out with their guns hidden behind their backs. Just wait for him to come out and then they mow him down. The officers and more experienced members tried to signal them to stay hidden.
"One sec, having a little trouble finding my blade, hold this for me?"
A live grenade clattered onto the roof near the assembled troops, giving them a second of shock before it went off, killing or wounding most of them. The rest of the troops rushed forward through the smoke and fired into Malcoms position, finding that he'd slipped away previously and left a radio he'd stolen earlier.
KZZZT "Hey, be grateful, guys who fall for that trick? Better off without them. You up for the next round? Keep looking"

Elijha nodded as she looked up at the window and around at the area. "Yeah I can get up there," she said as she moved back a few steps. She looked at the corner of the building seeing where it would be easer to get up. With a running leap she reached up for the first avalable crack in the design of the structure. With the help and a little leverage from her foot she was able to push herself even further up the wall. She landed on the ledge and looked down at Daniel.
"Flaunting her powers like that is going to get her killed. For someone who's just now finding out about them she sure knows how to use them," Riko mumbled to Daniel. "I would start worrying about that fact. She may be playing us," he said as he turned and headed to look at the window. Also waiting for Daniel's next move.
----------------------
Rio edged away from the stranger who at one time was trying to kill them and now had set everyone free. When he appologized for killing her friend she just hung her head, put her hands over her eyes, and started to cry even more. She couldn't understand what was going on, and even more she had been stressing a lot over Riko and what to do about Elijha everything just seemed to keep adding to her list to stress about.
