Joanna grinned at Artemis. It wasn't a nice grin, more like a predators.
"Today we'll take it easy, but tomorrow I'm going to throw you in, and everyday after that until I think your ready for the next stage." her grin widened when Artemis's eyes grew almost as wide as saucers. "come on." she took her hand and lead her to the steps, joanna went in at once, and turned to Artemis, arms stretched out to her. "come on, join me."

With Joanna by her side she struggled with the basic of swimming, and only managed to freak out occasionally when her head went under water. If this was the easy part she really hated to see the difficult part of learning how to swim. The more she thought about it the more she wondered if it was on purpose she was never taught how to swim, and not just over looked. Pushing the thought away as she focused on her swimming lesson, even though it seemed hard to learn with Joanna she seemed to get the hang of it a lot quicker than she thought.
After several hours and with a bit of the basics down pat they wrapped up the pool lessons. After drying off and grabbing something to eat Joanna drove them away from the compound and to another area. Once she seen the sign “Furies Obstacle and Tactical Shooting Course” she lit up. “You have your own training course that’s amazing!” As they pulled through the gate she was looking around as Joanna drove down a small dirt road until they reached the parking area. “Do others use this course too?” She asked as they climbed out of the vehicle.

"yes, but only under my supervision. this course isn't exactly standard."
getting out, she quickly took out several cases from the boot and went into a small building just inside the fence. inside there was a semi-circular console with a multitude of screens, all currently black, also there was locked cabinets with boxes and boxes of frangible ammunition of all calibres.
"I designed this course with all experiences that I could replicate; sights, smells, sounds, environments, enemies, surprises, etc. everything is movable, swappable and controllable, so no one time in the course is the same." "also there are a variety of "mission types", ranging from clearance and hostage rescue to item recovery and escape & evasion." all the enemies you can engage are advanced animatronics. they move, sound and attack like the real enemies, but without the extreme danger, they also have armoured computers that tell them when they are dead or have lost the use of a limb. this course is designed to train people to be highly mobile, very accurate and quick thinking in highly stressful environments." "BSAA brass from other branches like to b*tch at the cost of running this place, but no-one denies that its an effective training tool."
she put the gun cases on the metal table in the centre of the room, "these are your weapons. load them up, with the ammo here and then move to the starting area. in case your wondering your going in without your armour. the techs are still looking at it but I wanted you to do several runs without that re-assurance. one bite, one scratch, your dead. remember that."

Artemis nodded as she loaded the guns. "I can see that. I haven't been without the armor since I finished training. I've come to rely on it too much." After loading the guns she stepped back out of the room toward the starting area. As she looked out in front of her she was quite surprised at how well developed the area was. Even though she could see 200 feet in around her after that the field seemed to disappear behind hills and walls. "Ready," she called out so Joanna knew to start the course. Stepping forward she hesitated a moment as she waited for the go ahead to start. Once it was given she quickly moved forward past the 200 feet open space, and into a narrow path between two small dirt hills. She slowed a bit as she drew one of the guns. Continuing through the path she watched above for her targets, and never expected anything coming from behind. The sound of the shot brought her swinging around in kneeling position. As it did her own action caused the rubber bullets to barley miss her. She pulled the trigger on her gun and hitting the single target on the side of the machine. She moved forward more aware of everything, and not just looking above. The other three targets in the area went down without getting off a shot. As she moved out from cover of the hills several shots rang out. Quickly hiding behind the hill she looked around at several targets. She emptied the remainder of the clip on the targets. Holstering her gun she pulled the other and moved forward. She finished off the rest of the course with a little bit of difficulty.
Walking back into the control room she sat both guns on the table and started to reload the guns. "I'll give your course credit it's already kicking my butt and this was the first go." She holstered the guns once more and headed back out toward the course. This time she made it through the path without any problems, and there wasn't anything waiting for her at the end of the narrow path. She made her way down another path that lead to a building of some type. She proceeded to through the door checking each room as she went around the building to find the exit. Once exiting the building she was met with another obstacle, and one she wasn't confident in. She reluctantly edged forward toward the very narrow path that was surrounded by water, but what made it worse was that it was dark and she couldn't see exactly how deep the water was. She knew that Joanna wouldn't put her in too much danger considering that she had just started to learn to swim today, but it didn't make it any easier. Slowly she started to make her way across the path more worried about her footing than her surrounding even though she tried to pay attention to her surroundings. It was harder to do when she could feel her own heart beating in her throat. She didn't even hear the shots, but felt the impacts of the rubber bullets as the hit her back. She stumbled forward, and even though she tried her best to avoid the water it was impossible. As she hit the water she was quite surprised that it was only knee deep. She sat there in the water for a bit trying to gain her composure, and to even calm her own embarrassment. She couldn't believe she was freaking out over so little of water.
Sighing heavily she finally climbed to her feet and regrettably made her way back to the control room. She knew that if she had her armor on she wouldn't have cared about her surrounding, and could focus on her footing as she crossed the path. Yet she didn't have it, and she knew that was exactly what Joanna was aiming for. She removed her guns as she walked back into the control room and sat them on the table. She placed her hands on the table and let out a heavy sigh. "You could have warned me about the water," she pointed out. Though she knew that it would have been pointless, and even out on the field they don't know when they would come across something like that. "Even after all the time we spent at the pool the water still freaking me out. I even knew that it couldn't be that deep, but I still couldn't focus." She brought one of her hands to rub the lower part of her back where she was hit "That an now my back hurts. Thank you very much," she said as looked at Joanna and smiled.

Joanna smiled back, she could tell that despite the bruises and some humility, that Artemis was enjoying herself. “Pain is an excellent teaching tool in these lessons. I am considered the best instructor for BSAA recruits, and I put more trainees in the infirmary than any other, with broken bones and more.” She started working on a new course for Artemis, setting up the course to be long and interesting. “There is much that my course teaches. The need to have eyes in the back of your head, the need to use all your senses instead of just your eyes. Sight, smell, hearing, touch, intuition. All these things are essential.”
She finished setting up the course, it was going to be very difficult for Artemis but it was necessary. When she wasn’t training someone, she could do what she wanted. But she was training Artemis, and that meant she couldn’t go easy on her.
she needed to be trained to be more flexible, yes she was an excellent sniper and assassin, however she was not an operative to Joanna's strict standards. She trained Operatives to be able to do anything required of them to complete the mission and do it not only efficiently, but expertly. Artemis couldn't. Not yet anyway.
“Once you reloaded, head back in.” After Artemis headed back in she activated the course, the voice over told her the objective, and the time limit.
Mission Objectives; locate and disarm detonator for T-virus bioweapon. Enemy operatives detected; Low to Medium level concentration Bio-Organic-Weapons detected; Medium to High level concentration Failure to disarm detonator will result in upwards of 10 million deaths Time before Detonation; 15 minutes Mission starts now
