Hearing the story, Dani felt a little bad about stirring up some bad things with Anna. Her son seemed almost unfazed about it all, but the Anna was obviously still shaken up about it. Trauma killed everybody on the inside, whoever was involved in Raccoon City, herself included. "Hey, you can still be thankful that things turned out good after the incident. Better than me, anyways..." The outbreak wasnt a walk in the park for her either, coping with it was next to impossible. She lived a life of constant moving, no family to even think about saving. Just herself and the people she met, which turned out ugly before it was good enough to call a group. "...It was rabbit and me for a couple of years after that, we just left the city behind. I left my morality behind, too, if you havent noticed. That dark part of people, ya know? Im real sorry if you still dont trust me, Anna, I dont expect you to after what youve been through."
Even though she lost all of her morality, Dani still had a brain, and knew what they needed to do to survive. Taking over this farm would be the easiest way to, their entire group could stay here for the long term. But Anna was a survivor of the Raccoon City Incident, and it was smarter to keep her close, because they they could all survive just that much easier. "In the eight years ive 'survived', we only came across three others who survived Raccoon City. Do you know how many people survived that incident? Less than one hundred have been recorded to get out, and half of them already been killed off by Umbrella. There are groups out there tracking us down, Anna, Raccoon City survivors. I dont want to leave you, I cant do that. Its the only thing I have left to live for, everybody needs a goal besides just survival, right? Well mine is to gather all of the Raccoon City survivors, and band them together."
Maybe Anna thought that Dani was dreaming, or just being silly, but she wasnt. This was something that she planned on doing ever since they started gathering survivors. The ones who survived Raccoon City knew so much more than everybody else. The others only knew what others told them, or what the media told them, which was next to nothing compared to what some did. It was hard to tell what Anna knew compared to their group, but if they all came together, they could get more knowledge. Being a part of the CIA would be interesting, it was unbelievable that Anna got that job, but at this point, it would only give the group more of an advantage, had those chose to actually come together. "I dont wanna force you to do anything, and I know that your family comes first above all else. But I just wanna make sure you understand what our group stands for, and how much we could accomplish having you around."
~~~
There had been roughly seventy four corpses that Rabbit could find, and drag off to the treeline. Not only will the bodys be out of the way now, but far enough away so they wouldnt have to smell them as much, if at all, over their time on the farm. With that too came a barrier, the walkers that did show up at random times would be thrown off when they smelled their own, and the human scent wouldve been masked for miles to anything else that could potentially smell it. At the same time, Rabbit watched the trees, and even scouted a little inside. Around the house, the whole area, had been pretty low elevation, which meant that anything would have to come straight or down to them. Most of the walkers came from town, which only about fifteen came from elsewhere. This was a good observation, because it meant that town might be actually safe to scavenge by tomorrow.
Anna had still been over the sink when Dani told her story. She was a Raccoon City survivor, herself. The agent had already assumed as much, the way she'd carried herself and her reckless response to the undead as if this was some sort of game. She'd gone off telling her that her goal was to band together a group of Raccoon City survivors because Umbrella was hunting them down. She knew better. She had all the intel, she worked for the damned government.
"No, no, no...see....that's where you're wrong, Dani," she said in a muffled voice and chuckled a little dryly.
"Umbrella is only a memory now. There's a new pharmaceutical company that's been produced mid '05, conveniently after Umbrella's fall. Tricell Inc, that's where the rest of Umbrella is and I doubt they're out here trying to hunt down survivors. For what? The entire goddamn world knows what they did, I hardly think they're methods of revenge would be to kill the remaining survivors. I don't know about you, but my records are clear of my time in Raccoon City. No one's hunting me," she explained.
She'd shook her head and scowled a little after that. "Banding together survivors of Raccoon....even if there are some p*ssed off Umbrella rogues hunting us down, then grouping together is like painting a target on all of our backs. It's safer for us to stay spread out. One curbstomp could kill us all and it only takes one or two people max to f*ck up everything and get you killed," she told her.
Jimmy listened to both women's conversation, shifting around uncomfortably in his seat. He hadn't really liked the idea of being hunted down but if it was true that they were, then they should have been dead already.
"Mom...? I didn't know Umbrella was trying to kill the other survivors...what if-what if that's what happened to Rich?" he said, shaken up.
Anna immediately appeared in the archway of the kitchen that took her into the living room. "There is no Umbrella, Jimmy. We're safe, we're listed as being here in Kentucky at the time it happened. No one knows that we were in the outbreak," she told her son, seating herself next to him and frowning. She'd then took the time to look back at Dani, narrowing her eyes.
"Look, Dani, I appreciate that you want to help us and I'm not saying I have a problem working in groups but I have my own priorities and I'm one hundred percent that no one is trying to kill me or my son. I personally made sure of that, I'm sorry that we can't help you but if I've got the choice to go home where it's safe and infection free or stay out here in the infected wastes of the U.S...." she trailed off, looking over at her son. "I'm going home. Even if I didn't have Jimmy, I know that this world isn't meant for me."
It was as if her world got turned upside down yet again. If the ones who tired to kill them werent Umbrella, then surely they had other goals, right? Anna couldnt have been mistaken, she knew straight from the CIA, had much more intelligence then any of the members in her group. But Dani wasnt paranoid, her group was a target. The obvious thought would be that they were trying to cover up what happened in Raccoon City, even after all this time. But knowing now that nearly the entire thing had already gone global, why were they being hunted for the last few years? It just left her with more questions, and from the sounds of it, Anna didnt even have those answers.
What Anna told her did make complete sense now, and it filled in a lot of gaps. The timeline of events were a lot more clear, and with the rise of this new company, Tricell, it was good to put a name to the logo she seen. Dani was a little disappointed that Anna didnt seem as interested in what was going on, but she knew that they couldnt just drive on home and ride it out. Thats not how it was going to work, at least not for the longterm. Though that wouldnt dare be said to Anna, because it wouldnt help, and deep down it was better that they believed things were going to get better. "Over the last four years, more and more places around the USA have been infected with things much worse than those walkers. I dont know how those heroes in the BSAA plan to stop it all. Thats why I keep moving, because its only a matter of time before things get out of control."
Raccoon City was a single incident in 1998, a single city that got polluted by the virus. It was contained, but from then on, things only went downhill. "Stone, somebody else in out group, he came from Mexico after Raccoon City. Things down there are even worse than the USA. Europe is a mess as well. Even further east too, same thing. By the time they take back control of one outbreak, another state is already lost to the virus. I pray for you and your son that when you go back home, things will stay in tact. I dont mean to put you down or anything, but I have been running for the last eight years, and it always ends up the same no matter where I go. I know you of all people would understand, youve seen how out of control this virus gets, its unstoppable."
Again, Dani hated to be negative, debbie downer, but she always faced reality. Its just how things were. People got caught up in thinking that things would be fine wherever they were, but they eventually had their own lives ripped away from them. Between 1998 and now, its been a long eight years, and the infection was only spreading faster and faster by the day. "The BSAA did a good job so far, but its clearly out of their control. Kentucky has been lost for months now, and we havent seen any sign of them yet. Colorado was where we stayed last, thought being higher up north would be better. Lasted six months, and we were damn sure that things were going to get better, that we could live a normal life. And ya know what? Colorado is gone now, infection took that, too. When we keep moving, searching for safety, we just relive Raccoon City everyday."
"Everytime we get closer to safety, it just gets ripped away from us. Over and over again. Its happened more times than I can count. Sometimes in days, sometimes in weeks, some rare occasions even in months. But it always does, for the last six years. We were promised, actually promised safety time after time. Nobody kept that promise..." By this time, Dani had been sitting on the couch, tears coming from her eyes. Her inside emotions were getting the best of her. Maybe its because she never sat down and talked to somebody in such a long time, or maybe it was just everything resurfacing. But it was uncontrollable, and she felt weak. Thought not making any audible sounds of whimpering or anything, Dani spoke out through her soaked face, wiping the tears away. "Ive never once given up, or regret something. The countless people ive had to kill to get to where I am now, the things ive seen. Its just too much, Anna. Im sorry, really, I am."
The woman was only twenty two years old. She shouldve have seen as much as she did. Dani felt weak compared to Annas son. She was just kidding herself all these years, holding everything back because she was afraid of being scared, and letting her emotions take over. Because that got people killed. And right now, it wasnt doing anybody any good, being the tough one, or being the weak on. She was just a useless young girl, with no real ambition. She missed her parents, and she missed her brother. She missed the old world, and never got the chance to see it for what it shouldve been. Dani knew that being the person she was for all this time would catch up to her, and today, it did. Now Anna had to put up with her, and probably think she was crazy. Because she was crazy, thats what the world did to people, and it was already too late for her now.
By this time, Anna had sent her son to his room so he wouldn't be caught in the middle of this sensless conversation. These survivors weren't helping her son cope and in return, wasn't making them look any better to her. Didn't they understand that a child needed positive input? DIdn't it once cross their minds that if you weren't positive, if you didn't have faith, that it would just destroy you? As she'd thought about it, Dani began to shed tears and explain to her just how delusional Anna probably was.
In all truth, Anna knew better. She knew it wasn't going to last forever but she wasn't going to let that hold her or her loved ones back.
"You can't give up hope. In the long run, that's all you and your group have left, is hope and if there is none....then there's no point in surviving. So you find all your survivors and then what? Continue to survive and force yourselves into all the sparse infected regions of the world? To prepare you for the inevitable? You're taking away any happiness, even if it's for a short amount of time, to prepare. You're stripping away any good thing that you might never have again for something that may or may not happen. You won't have a drive then. And if you don't have a drive, then there's nothing to survive for," she explained, hoping this was all making sense to the young woman.
She'd went on to point up at the staircase. "He is what I'm surviving for. He's going to school, he has friends and family that love him and want to spend time with him. I want him to have that. I want him to relish it and use it to drive his reason for living," she began before placing a hand on her stomach.
"This...is my second reason for living and going home. My baby needs the chance to survive and live whatever amount of years they can in comfort and in safety. He or she, like my son, deserve that and I'm not going to let you or your group keep us from getting home. Unlike what you might think, I know exactly what I'm doing and I know it won't be easy."
She stopped crying, and when Anna had gave it away that she was pregnant, Dani really didnt know exactly what to say. "Your... Pregnant...?" It just made it even harder to believe that things were how they were. The both survivors, albeit coming from the exact same scenario, had the exact opposite outlooks on the outbreak. There was a time when Dani put the gun to her heard, but she knew that pulling the trigger meant she wouldnt get to see if the world really did put itself back together. Shes obviously seen a lot more fall apart than Anna, but that didnt make her any more or any less afraid to continue on for the better. "You have something I dont, faith. I just cant have faith that things are going to get better. But you have more to worry about, something to live for. Enough to see the better part of this world. I dont stop and take the time to realize that its not all gone yet, and we still have time to enjoy it." Dani had been acting as if the world was already gone, like it was too late to save it. Maybe it was, maybe it wasnt. But the new perspective on life certainly changed her motives now.
But with all of the realization, and the moment the two of the had together, Rabbits yell could be heard from outside. "Yo, someones out here, they look hurt!" This set the two into a mode that they both were capable of being set in. Outside, Rabbit had been moving across the yard toward the figure who had been hunched over. It wasnt a walker, because he was trying to speak out, but was too far away to make out any words. Getting closer with the shotgun drawn, he knew exactly who it was. "Arc, man, what happened? Where are the others?" Grabbing onto his companion, Rabbit helped him closer to the house, and it was that time that Anna and Dani both got outside. Dani seen who it was, and spoke out, seeing the blood coming from his left arm. "What happened?"
It was confusing for the both of them, because they were under the impression that the others were coming in an RV. The man coming on his own, and in pretty bad condition, just raised questions for the two of them, and probably even more for Anna. "Seen the flare last night, came here on foot to check it out." Though it would probably only lead to more questions, Arc didnt know what to tell them. But when they seen the chunk of skin half torn from his upper arm, and the teeth marks around it, he knew that he would have to explain himself at this point now.
Anna and Dani had came running out after Rabbit whom was helping some man over to the house. They seemed to have known him and from the looks of things, he'd been bitten. Anna immediately felt her heart drop into her stomach. This man was infected and she was pretty sure that the others knew it too from experience. She never did get the chance to tell them she'd been in another outbreak when she first joined the CIA but at this point that fact didn't matter.
"Get him into the house, I'll get the first aid...eh, Rabbit, Dani, keep your eyes on him and your safety off," Anna said, walking back into the home. She'd shook her head and looked upward at the sky as she'd crossed the grassy front yard. She was bringing an infected into her home.
When she'd gotten into the house, she'd grabbed at the large case and began shuffling through it, trying to figure out what to do. The humane thing to do would be to just plant a bullet in his head but his friends would never allow that. It was understandable afterall...but she already began to think of other options, one being to treat him, clean the barn and keep him there for monitoring. That seemed like the best thing to do, right?
"Mom! What's going?! Who the hell is that?!" her son said, running down the stairs to see the injured man being hauled up the porch. "Hey, hey, language, Jimmy," she told him, setting up the needed supplies.
"Go bring me some old towels and a trash bag, will ya?"
"Uh, right." he said, running off to the linen closet.
As the two of them dragged their friend up onto the porch, Arc stopped them, pushing himself away and sitting himself down on the side of the house. "Im staying out here, not stepping foot inside that house." Rolling up his sleeve, Arc showed the two of them exactly what they were dealing with, the bite mark. Dani was the first to pull out her gun, knowing that it wasnt really going to make a difference how and when it happened, but that it did before anybody else got hut. Rabbit, on the other hand, grabbed her wrist and spoke loudly. "Put that sh*t away, yo! Dont be playing all hard ass woman now, Arcs one of our own, not some guy we met on the street." Arc liked the fact Rabbit had been kind, but knew that it was going to be what it was, and it was only a matter of time.
"It only just happened, guess I got wreckless..." But it didnt really make sense at this point. They had survived this long because they knew what they were doing. For the strongest in the group to just get himself bit like that, didnt make any sense to either of them. At the same time, it didnt matter now, because it already happened, and there was no cure for it. By the time Anna came out onto the porch with the first aid treatment, Arc was already starting to tell his story. "I seen the flare last night, and decided to come alone because I knew I could move faster. On the way to it, I heard an awful lot of gunfire, not long ago in fact. I followed the walkers, they were going somewhere, figured it would take them to you. Nice work taking them all out, didnt see anymore coming this way. I tried to lead the rest away, and thats how this happened..."
Anna had walked over to the three, her son hauling the trash bag and towels with a fold up chair dragging behind him. When she'd heard the story of how he'd gotten bitten, the agent grunted a little, trying to figure out where to start. Anna set up the chair and placed the kit and towels atop of it. Grabbing onto his arm with her fully gloved hands, she'd taken a good look at the bite. It tore into the skin but his tissue and muscle was in tact, if not traumatized. She didn't know much about medicine but it was fairly obvious.
"Alright, the skin is pretty bruised and tattered a little. I can try to stitch it but it's gonna hurt like a sonuva b*tch so, fair warning," she told him, grabbing at some cotton swabs and antiseptic. She'd went to work cleaning it out as thoroughly as possible, though she doubt it'd do anything. He was infected and there was really no changing that.
"I'm sure you all know the symptoms of infection, yes? Itching, rash, restlessness, increased appetite, nausea, perfuse sweating, fever, chills and ultimately hallucination. Then death," she explained, reminding them of what to expect. The longest she'd ever seen someone cling onto life before turning, had been about 15 hours.
Jimmy watched the entire time, feeling his stomach churn. After a moment, he began to vomit out into the grass, coughing and gagging during it. Anna glanced back at her son, worriedly, looking up at Dani since she'd already been emotional about this whole situation and now their friend's inevitable demise.
"Dani...can you please take my son inside? I'll be in shortly."
Figuring it was only best, Dani shook her head at the situation, and then opened up the door for Jimmy. The two of them went inside, leaving the others outside. It just didnt make sense for him to get infected. Maybe thats just how she was, always thinking a little too much, and she should just add it up to what it is. Shes seen it herself so many times before, but usually never gave people a chance to turn. She didnt care about what was right, but herself, she would want to die human rather than just one of those walkers. Still, she couldnt help shake the feeling that there was something else going on, its just her way. Looking at Jimmy, Dani spoke out. "What are you learning in school?" She wanted to try and pretend things were normal, and for the most part, Dani pretended that she was babysitting back when she was sixteen.
~~~
"Just do what you have to, im not really worried about how painful it will be. Its all numb now, only reason I had a little trouble moving." Arc knew that it was bad, but he didnt feel any pain at all. Knowing full well that it was part of the infection process, he could just wait for it to take its toll, and for the woman to patch him up the best she could. All in all, there wasnt much sense in wasting the medical supplies, but he wasnt going to act tough, or strangely calm about being bitten, that would only make the situation that much more uncanny. As Anna did her thing, Arc spoke out to Rabbit, trying to make things easier for him. "I left a note for the others, the direction I seen the flare. They might just find their way here now thats its daytime..."
Rabbit was a little shocked, figuring that now he didnt have to explain to Anna that the group was coming, it seemed like they would be showing up one way or another, and it was out of his control. But what were the odds? It couldnt be just a coincidence, could it? "Anna, was it? Sorry for showing up like this, and I apologize in advance for leading the group here. Theyre good people, im sure youve already gotten to know Rabbit and Dani, am I right?"

Anna had began to stitch the wound up with the suture needle, sliding the threaded hook needle through the durable parts of his torn flesh when he had apologized for showing up in his state. Anna sighed a little and shrugged, keeping her eyes down on the wound.
"Well....sh*t happens. Yeah, I got to know Rabbit and Dani. Rabbit's a good kid, a bit naive, but he's a got a good head on his shoulders. Dani has some emotional instability but I can tell she's not a bad person, just confused," she'd responded.
It was at that point that the name 'Arc' had become apparent. She'd raised a brow and looked up at the man, adjusting her crouching position. "Oh hey, you're Arcian. You're the guy that helped me find my cousin back in Raccoon. Never got the chance to say 'thanks'. Guess you could consider me not blowing your f*ckin' brains out as one, heh," she'd chuckled.

It was good to know that Anna thought about Rabbit like that, and the truth about Dani. It was true, she was pretty messed up in the head, but always took care of business when it came to the group. It was good for her to be around other survivors, and from the looks that Arc gave him, he thought so too. They were the only family she had, it was nice to have some friends aside from them. As Anna spoke, Rabbit went inside the house to be with Dani, figuring that they could talk a little, and figure out what they were going to do about Arc, and the remaining group members who were on their way as of now.
~~~
"Yeah, I was wondering when youd recognize me. Didnt want to say anything, cause you know who I was before all of this. Thanks for now saying it out loud, these kids get a bit jumpy when they hear the word 'Umbrella'. Good to see your still alive though, Anna. Too bad you can really say the same for me..." When she joked about not blowing his brains out, Arc grinned, but still kept the same serious look on his face. He wasnt really in the mood for jokes, and still had been a little depressed about the bite on his arm. But in the end, he had to let the secret out, Arc just wanted her to be the one to hear it. She was the only person that he trusted with something like that, knowing that she herself seen others like him before, but never yet made sense of it. "I should be fine until the symptoms start up, but im not going inside the house unless you invite me. Come sundown, put me in the barn."
Anna nodded a little. No one wanted to associate with anyone that had anything to do with Umbrella, she remembered his UBCS position but truth be told, he was safe to be around. She wasn't sure if he was thattrustworthy though. Just because he helped her out once for a couple of hours didn't mean he was the same person he was then. These outbreaks...they do things to people. Change them into completeley different people. Sometimes for the best, most of the time for the worse.
"Well, I know how to deal with the infected living. You can hang out in the house, there's enough of us inside to keep an eye on you until sun down...eh the barn's pretty messed up though, doubt we can hold you in there with all the dead horses and the giant hole in the back. We'll figure something out though, Arc," she told him. She'd finished the stitching and moved onto the bandaging.
"You're going to have to let them know you were part of Umbrella. Maybe if they see you're not a bad guy, it'll give them some sort of hope for the world. They need it, otherwise they're as good as dead," she said.
Thought it mightve been a good idea, it was just something he was going to avoid. "Its one of those things you just need to let die. Umbrella is dead, everybody seemed to have move on. Having that mark changes peoples opinions of you, on a subconcious level. Telling them would only make things worse in the long run. Its better just to leave it alone, I can take it to my grave, and they wont think any different of me. Theyre good people, but I wasnt the one who set them on the right path, if anything, they helped me more than I helped them." The entire time he spoke, Arc had a strange tone to him. In an ironic way, death has an effect on people, it sometimes makes them feel more alive the closer they are to it. In his case, hes already been to the grave and back, and never felt more alive.
Suddenly, the soldier gripped his arm tightly, feeling starting to come back, and he felt pain. It was the first time he did in a long time, and it strangely felt good. Now he didnt need to pretend, he could feel it and express it. "I can feel it inside my blood, but I cant really explain the feeling..." Usually, Arc had been a completely serious, almost mysterious individual. But for some reason or another, he felt different, and it was a good feeling. "...Im fine." he spoke, standing up from the porch. "Just, when I tell you its time for me to go, I want you to do it. Alone, without them knowing."
Anna had finished up finally and looked up at the man, curiously. He wanted her to be the one to take him out without the group knowing. She could only assume he didn't want his friends to have to live with that burden, so she'd nodded.
"Alright, I'll take care of it," she said, half reluctantly. She felt a little bad about having the duty befall her, but she knew she had what it took to do it. For now, however, she'd stood up to her feet, grabbing at the bloody towels, bloody needle and dirty gauze; stuffing them into the trash bag along with the gloves.
"Well, let's get you inside for now. I'm sure everyone's hungry...eh, anything special you'd want to eat, I mean, since you're..." she trailed off, thinking it was the least she could do to make him a little comfortable before he had to go.
From the face that Anna made, it was clear that she was honestly up to the challenge. In all honesty, Arc wouldnt have picked her to do it, but he knew it wouldnt get that far in the end anyways. "A can of peaches, thanks for asking." Opening the door for Anna, the soldier waited until she was inside before stepping in himself. He wasnt bleeding anymore, so wouldnt have to worry about getting blood anywhere in the house. Seeing Rabbit and Dani sitting on the couch with the little kid was a good sign that things had been better here than a lot of other places, but he knew they couldnt stay here. Their group needed to leave, they had other business to take care of, whether they still believed it or not.
"You two need to meet up with the rest of the group, and head further down south. We all know its not just day to day survival, you need to accomplish something more than just survival. Your always talking about expanding, right? Houston Texas is setting up barriers and everything, last I heard. You and the group should check it out, I know youll find more survivors there, others who actually need help. You cant help me here, and Anna looks like she can take care of herself." It wasnt that Arc was trying to get rid of them so soon, it was just a series of unfortunate events that made things that much more difficult. For a group of Raccoon City survivors, knowing the truth about who he was would be bad.
Just then, Arc lost his balance, but caught it at the right time. Resting while standing against a wall, he looked over at Anna, and then at Rabbit and Dani. Nobody wanted to see him like this, but quite frankly, he was the stupid one getting himself into the situation. "I need you to go now, Rabbit. Take Dani with you, the both of you, get back to the dirt road not even a mile from here. I cant let the others see me like this, just go back to the, tell them I didnt make it. Can you do that?" Rabbit wasnt really sure if Arc was in his right mind, but that if it was happening sooner then expected, maybe it was best that they did leave as soon as they could. Dani looked at Anna, and spoke, making sure it was okay to her. "Theres nothing we can do about it, and no sense involving the rest of us. You move on, right? Said so yourself. Rabbit and I will move on, if thats what Arc wants."
Though wasnt how he anticipated a final departure from the group, it was going to happen whether they liked it or not. They would move on, and be that much more aware, knowing that they know how. It was one thing giving up when there was still a fighting chance left, but for Arc, it was over. Looking at Anna, he pleaded with his eyes, telling her that it was too late, and they needed to go. He wanted them gone, but didnt have the strength to make them leave himself.
