"come on, we need to move." they were helping/dragging artemis along, wolf used her shotgun on any plants that got too close while Joanna felt her way through her med-kit, bringing out an auto-injector. without warning her, she jabbed it into the opening in artemis's left arm, injecting its contents. "i just gave you a booster. its a combination painkiller and stimulant. it'll help you get back on your feet till we can get you to a proper med-facility." artemis nodded in understanding, she was already moving more on her own. "Oh and to answer you question." artemis's head jerked around to look at her. "ive already lost too many people I care about. Im not gonna lose another."

As the water rushed in and they moved toward the soldiers. Artemis couldn’t help but be shocked at Joanna’s comment. It almost made her forget about the stabbing pain in her arm. It was that or the medication starting to work. Joanna cared for her, and that was something she wasn’t expecting. No one every cared for her. Even though she thought of her father a lot and loved him she knew that their relationship wasn’t like what she wanted. It was a mutual agreement to help each other, and even though she had that attachment toward him like a daughter should a father it was never the other way around. She was there because he was the only one willing to take her in, and at times she wondered if it was out of guilt. There were moments in her life that he did act like a father, but never once did he say anything along the lines of caring for her or loving her. Artemis couldn’t help but smile. She liked the idea of someone caring for her.
When they reached the soldiers the platforms had all but crumbled into the flooding room below. One of the soldiers was already working on the door in attempts to open it. After a few seconds the doors slid open and a rush of water swept over their feet. Artemis cursed her reaching of tensing up as soon as it happened, but the water didn’t stay to long as it washed over the side of their platform to the water below. They quickly moved into the hallway and allowed the door to shut behind them. As they did a large explosion echoed through the area and shook the hallway. Without looking back or questioning it they moved down the hallway. At this time Artemis was able to keep herself up, but at quite a slower pace than before. Even though the pain eased up she still held her side in hopes that it would stop the throbbing in her side. She cursed Kyle with every painful step she took, and then it dawned on her.
“Head the R&D department. If I remember correctly the weapons research lab should be around this corner and the third door on the left.” As they rounded the corner she was off by two doors, but the lab was still there. When they opened the door the entire floor was flooded with water, and in the far left corner of the room there were several hanging wires that were barley a foot above the water. “Kyle knew the weakness to my armor,” she pointed out. It wasn’t the fact that Kyle had went in between where the armor was, but actually pierced the shell itself. “There was talk among Umbrella soldiers that at one time they were working on bullets that when they fire the round separates into tiny sharp pieces that’s supposed to be able to penetrate armor. An I’m not talking about the armor piercing rounds or tank rounds. From what they said it’s actually supposed to be like shards of metal. Now I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it is they would have them here. An they may be able to give us an upper hand on Kyle since we all can’t get close to him at one time,” she pointed out.
She looked over at Joanna and Wolfe. “So what do you two think?” She looked down at the water before looking over to the wires in the corner. “Not to mention if we do try to look for it we all can’t go in there. All the moving around would shift that water right into those wires.”

"Artemis and I will search the R&D department, the rest of you will stay here and keep a lookout." everyone nodded in agreement, and Artemis and Joanna stepped into the lab while the others got into position. the water level rose a couple of inches but was still far from the hanging wires.
Joanna found a computer that still turned on, and put in a data-spike usb while Artemis looked around. as soon as the light went green on the usb she pulled it and inserted it into her tac-pad. looking through the files she whisled,"these guys were working on some pretty cool sh*t. a light weight version of your armor, a man-portable railgun, some kind of EMP grenade, even those bullets you mentioned. looks like the bullets were called 'Shredder' ammo."

Artemis looked at Joanna a bit shocked. She was starting to hate the fact that no matter where she went there was water. She bit her lip as she reluctantly followed Joanna into the room, but thankfully there was something more for her to worry about than the water. Well mostly considering that the hot wire would become deadly if it hit the water. She edged over to one of the work stations to see if she could come up with anything until Joanna called her over and brought to her attention the items they were working on. She looked up the shredder ammo and its location within the room. “That’s good. We should keep a few shells from being fired so the BSAA can study them,” she pointed out as she moved across the room to the glass locked cabinet. “Joanna, there was something else that Kyle told me back there that has me a bit worried.” She paused as the lights flickered a bit. She looked over to the door as it slammed shut. Outside of the room they could hear the someone hit the door, but it quickly stopped. In the hallway where Wolfe and the soldiers waited the water started rising quickly.
“Now that I have your friend pre occupied,” Kyle’s voice rang over the speaker. “I have to make your little friend suffer for the trouble she has put me through. As for the two of you I have a question for the one I don’t know as well.” Artemis looked over at Joanna for a moment and then around the room. “Did you know your new friend has a virus running through her blood?” Artemis paused mid step at the comment. She knew that the BSAA was testing her blood to make sure, but she was pretty sure she didn’t. She tried her best to stay away from any of the scientist that were working in the labs. “Something I didn’t know about until quite recently. I know it’s not because of me. She was so good at avoiding the doctors, but one. I wonder just what type of virus he bonded with his child, but that will have to wait. My question now is what happens when one so bent on saving the other is bitten by this person. Just food for thought. Now I must go deal with the others.”
Artemis couldn’t move now. She had even forgot that she was standing in water. Now all she could do was think about the coppery taste of blood when Joanna used her hand for her to bite down on. She didn’t feel any different than before she didn’t feel any stronger than anyone else. She had also had issues taking on males before so what virus would she have in her, and what was it going to do to Joanna?

when Kyle told them that Artemis was bonded with a virus, Joanna stilled for a few seconds, then quickly started moving again. she was shocked, but in a way she had already accepted that possibility when she gave Artemis her hand to bite down on. after all, the BSAA was testing her blood. she went over to the wires, and took out some duct-tape from her pack, grabbing a chair as she went past a desk. setting the chair, she stepped up on it and, grabbing the wires, duct-taped them to a light fixture. getting off, she turned to see Artemis looking at her, "I always have a roll of duct with me, very useful in a variety of situations." that got a bit of a smile from her, for a moment anyway before a look of worry over took her face. Artemis opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, Joanna over took her, "If your thinking about what Kyle said and about you biting my hand, forget it. I made my decision and I stand by what I said earlier." "see if there's any shredder ammunition in here, Im gonna set a breaching charge on the door. she saw the sudden flash of fear in Artemis's eyes, 'so she's afraid of the water' "Artemis, we need to keep going. there's water all over the complex, and none of us, especially you, can afford for you to freeze up at a critical moment." Seeing Artemis flinch at that, Joanna softened her tone, "Artemis, I need you to survive this. I cant afford to lose another person I care about." she smiled mischievously, "Tell you what. when we get out of here, Ill teach you how to swim. Deal?"

Artemis couldn’t help but flinch a reaction that seemed to becoming more natural the longer they stayed here. She turned away from Joanna s she went to work on the door. As she moved over to the class cabinet where she had seen the ammo earlier something else was bothering her. It was something that wasn’t there before. She shook off the though and chocked it up to being worried about what could happen with Joanna. She took a glance back at her before reaching for the chair. She couldn’t open the cabinet with the combination lock, but always found it funny that they made things like this with glass. She shook her head as she gripped the chair and swung it at the glass only to have it bounce back. She fumbled with the chair as one hand let go of it as she gripped her side in pain. She gritted her teeth as she dealt with the pain.
Remembering Joanna’s comments both times. She couldn’t believe that someone had even thought of her like that. She gripped the chair again and held it up with a bit more difficulty. ‘I don’t want to lose her. I don’t want to let her down.’ She bit her lip as she shifted and the pain went through her side. ‘But I hate these feelings. I’ve never felt so weak before. It scares me . . .’ She trailed off in thought as she swung hard, and as the chair hit the glass it shattered. She quickly dropped the chair as she hit her knee grabbing her side. “Damn,” she groaned. When Joanna looked back she shook her head. “I’ll be fine,” she mumbled under her breath. Using the table to help her stand she knew that was far from the truth at the moment.
She moved over to the cabinet pulling out the boxes of ammo and placing them in a bag for later. She moved over to Joanna and pressed herself against the wall beside her. She braced herself for what she knew was going to come. Her hand drifted to her side knowing this was going to hurt. She waited and a few seconds later the explosion rattled the room, but was quickly overcome by the rush of water. As soon as the water hit she gasped out, but she didn’t know if it was from the shock or the pain of the salt water hitting her side. Either way a mouth full of water quickly made her forget about both of them. She come up choking on the water as Joanna was dragging her out of the room. When they stepped up into the hallway the water was only chest high, but it was quickly rising. Artemis looked around the hallway but none of the soldiers or Wolfe where here. She didn’t have too much time to think about it before Joanna was grabbing her hand and pulling her up the hallway. As they entered into another room the door shut behind them, and the water seemed to recede.
Artemis leaned against the door holding her side and panting heavily. “To much,” she mumbled before looking up at the room. It was large and around just like the plant room with a cat walk that lead all the way around, but it seemed like there was nothing in there. An then there was the fact that Wolfe and the Soldiers weren’t in the hallway. She looked over at Joanna. “Where do you think the others could have gotten off to?”

"don't know, ill check." when she activated her radio, all she could hear was an electronic whine. "s***, Kyle must have activated a jamming device, we can't contact the others."
she looked back at Artemis. since just before she had breached the lab door, she had been experiencing something strange. she was experiencing massive feelings of fear, but they were somehow distant, removed, almost as if she was experiencing the feelings of a different person. and it felt like something was trying to dampen it or remove it. that's she knew it wasn't her own feeling, because she didn't try to dampen her own emotions, merely channel and control. It was one of the reasons her call sign was "Fury". she stilled, the only possible reason that she could be feeling another person's emotions was... "Artemis, do you feel anything strange?" she shook her head in response, confusion showing. Joanna decided to experiment with this, and she tried mentally drawing away the distant feelings of fear. Artemis stilled, looking at her with shock.

Artemis was a bit shocked at what was happening, and it wasn't because of the room before them. She looked at Joanna, and at the moment she wanted to deny what she was feeling. Artemis stepped away from Joanna and toward the railing. It was just like the feeling back in the room, but there it wasn't much of a feeling as she thought someone said something but Joanna wasn't speaking at that time. "Joanna . . ." she paused in thought as she looked back at her. "Back in the lab . . ." She paused at the walkway shook. Sighing a bit as she placed her hand on the railing and then quickly pulled it back. "It's hot." She looked around noticing that the ventilation fans in the room were not turned on. "Why?" she moaned a bit as she looked back over the railing. "Why can't he just give us five minutes to relax." Truth being that she wanted time to process what she had felt, and what Joanna was talking about. The other problem was her side was burning from the salt water, but at the moment it was a pain she could push away. Then the thought quickly went away as she smelt something. She sniffed the air and paused. Sulfer. Looking over the railing and being careful not to touch it. There was no doubting what this room was built over, and the fans must have kept the upper area cool. "Damn it," she groaned. "This room is built over a vulcanic vent in the ocean," she pointed out as she looked at Joanna. "We need to get out of here before we burn to death or suffocate," she said as started around the catwalk. She paused mid step as she turned back to look at Joanna. "What is happening?" she asked lightly, and not refering to their current situation.

"My guess?" Joanna raised her left hand, shaking it. it was the hand Artemis had bitten into. though Artemis kept a blank face, Joanna could 'feel' her understanding through their 'link'. whatever virus Artemis's father gave her, so far it was proving interesting.
As they progressed through the increasingly hot labs, Joanna's thoughts lingered on those sudden feelings she felt through the link when she started drawing away Artemis's fear. they couldn't be what she thought they were. could they?

Artemis quickly followed behind Joanna and wishing that the exit door to this larger lab was a lot closer. The room didn’t seem as large when they first stepped foot into it, but now that they were moving it seemed to take forever. Yet she knew exactly why it felt longer. First her wound had been exposed to salt water, and now extreme heat. She was starting to feel the effects of the environment around her. Her hand gripped her side tightly as it throbbed in more pain than she felt when she got stabbed to begin with. She knew she was slowing, but tried her best to keep up. Using the railing or wall to help was out of the question, but the more she watched Joanna’s movement the more she realized it wasn’t just her. Though Joanna seemed to be fighting it better she knew that the sulfur smell had to be getting to her as well.
She stumbled forward into Joanna before she knew it. When she looked up they were standing in front of a doorway and at the end of the room. Joanna opened the door and pulled them through into what looked like the medical lab. As soon as Artemis’ feet hit the ground she collapsed to the floor. She rested her head on the cool steal floor, and gripped her side tightly as she fought against the urge to pass out. “I- I think . . . I’m going to just lay here for a minute,” she spoke in a whisper

"oh no you don't!" Scooping up Artemis, Joanna took her over to what looked like a surgery table, setting her down gently. quickly shuffling through her med-kit, bringing out another booster injector. after injecting its contents into Artemis, she searched all the draws and cabinets in the room, taking pain-killers, anti-biotic spray and water-proof bandages. bringing back her loot, she sat Artemis up and started taking off her armor. as she started removing the bandage, Artemis winced, and Joanna decided it was time for her to learn a little lesson.
"your not used to so much emotion, huh?" wincing again, Artemis nodded in confirmation. "your problem is trying to dampen and stop them." Artemis looked at her, questioningly. "the trick is not to dampen, but to channel, control and focus, especially emotions like fear and rage as well as physical pain. channel them so that instead of debilitating you, they strengthen you, control them, so they don't control you." feeling Artemis's confusion through the link gave her an idea.
"like this."
widening their link, Joanna 'showed' Artemis her own typhoon of emotions;Hate, Sorrow, Rage, Fear. also shown was her own physical pain; what felt like a broken rib from that BOW slamming into her, the pain in both her hands, the pain in her head from holding the link so wide, the deep ache of her entire body. More importantly, also shown was how she channeled, controlled and focused her emotions and pain into Cold, Focused, Invigorating, Fury.
Besides that was something she hadn't intended for her to see, her memories of the last few days, of Artemis, and her feelings that accompanied them.

Artemis looked at Joanna in shock almost forgetting about the pain when she was tightning her bandage. Her hand drifted to her side before looking at Joanna. She had no idea that she had been hurt for so long, and then the swarm of emotions that ran through her. She shook her head as she pushed away from Joanna. As she slid off the table she had to use it to brace herself up. "No," she said shaking her head. "I've always been told . . ." she paused as she looked up at Joanna remembering the emotions she felt at the end. From the point they met Joanna had seemed hell bent on helping her even though she had caused so much problems for her and the BSAA, and now she was here helping them. Her lack of emotions have always helped her when she worked with Umbrella, and that was because she had always been told that emotions just made her weaker. Though it was her emotions that drove her to be better than her mother. Kyle had been always feed off her hatred of her mother to strengthen her, and pulled her away from her other emotions. A man she was now hell bent on killing.
She looked at Joanna again and sighed a bit Fine. With the help of the table she moved over to the closest chair and sat down. "You sure know how to turn a person's whole world upside down," she said as she laid back in the chair and sighed. "Growing up with Kyle he had always told me my emotions were my own enemy, but when I think about it. It was my hatred for my mother that drove me to being who I am." She sighed a bit as she leaned forward. "Then . . . then there is this strange feeling that keeps me here. A feeling I'm really not use to. One that set me off when Kyle mentioned hurting you. I couldn't control myself, and I just lost it and made a bad mistake," she sighed a bit." She shook her head as she stood up. "I've never . . . I've never had something I wanted to protect."

Joanna went over to the chair next to Artemis, sitting down. "I've had feelings of hate and rage from a very early age, and later on sorrow, fear and regret. but also those feelings, although to a lesser degree than what we're both experiencing right now." she looked over to artemis, smiling. "I think my feelings started as I watched you through my scope. I was impressed how you killed that zombie in the square before we met. And as I watched you, listened, I began to open up. something I hadn't done in a long time."

Artemis looked at Joanna for a moment before turning to look down at her feet. She couldn’t help but stifle a smile. She shook her head before climbing to her feet. “To be honest,” she said lightly. “I’ve only known you for a short period of time, and yet you’ve made the biggest impact on my life.” She looked at Joanna. “I like it. I know these emotions are confusing me, but when I’m beside you. I like the feeling of comfort I get.” She placed her hand on her side where Joanna had changed the bandages. A complete stranger that was her enemy had now become her lifeline to a life she tried to avoid. She smiled at the thought before walking over to her armor. She could spend more time dwelling on this later, but for now they had to find the others and get to Kyle.
With Joanna’s help she was able to put her vest back on, but now it felt heaver. She knew it wasn’t the weight, but more her exhaustion. They had their break and it was time move on before Kyle tried anything else. She watched Joanna as she headed across the lab toward the exit. There weren’t many rooms left for them to go through until they were back at the main lobby. She hoped that they would meet up with the others along the way. Joanna stopped at the door looking into the hallway that had water. Artemis stepped up beside her and sighed. “Yeah go figure,” she said lightly as she patted Joanna on the arm. “I think I got this a little better now.”
She stepped past Joanna and into the hallway holding her breath slightly as the water surrounded her ankles. This shallow wasn’t so bad. Artemis turned back to say something when the doors slammed shut separating both of them. “Hey!” she shouted as she turned around and hit the door. “Joanna!” She growled slightly as she went to the keypad and tried to type in the codes she had but all of them were giving her access denied. “Damn it. Joanna are you okay?” she shouted again.
“You’re getting to close,” Kyle’s voice echoed over the speaker in the hallway and medical room. “I have so much more to do with you. You should have died like the good loyal dog you were back then. Now I have to make you suffer.”
“Damn you Kyle. You hurt any of them and I’ll rip you apart with my own hands.”
“I’d like to see you try. You two will meet up again. An in that time I will let you watch me rip your friends apart. You will suffer greatly at the end.”
Artemis stood there for a moment, and when she was sure that Kyle was no longer on the speaker she turned back to the door. “Joanna, If I’m remembering correctly somewhere in that room is a hidden doorway that will lead you to the animal testing room. Hopefully if Wolfe and the others continued on through the labs you should both reach that point. I’ll continue on from this point and catch up with you there. Be careful though. I don’t know what they were testing on in there.”

"Alright, you go on ahead. Use what I taught you."
Looking around the infirmary, she quickly found a hidden switch that opened a section of wall, revealing a dark passage. After loading a few empty magazines with the found Shredder ammunition, she lit her flash-lights and proceeded down the passage, subconsciously following Artemis through their link. She was both curious and cautious about this 'Link'. based on what was happening, she thought it was most likely derived from the Las Plagas strain of virus, because the Las Plagas infectees had a 'hive mind' mentality and was much like that of an ant colony, many workers being controlled by queens, or 'control plagas'. it seemed like the virus that now infected both of them was a variation of the control plagas, connecting them mentally, without the physical transformation.
all in all, it was so far an intriguing virus to be made by any umbrella scientist. perhaps it was originally meant for USS squads, the potential of instant mental communication and sharing of emotions between team-mates, even just being able to instinctively know each-other's location in a tactical situation were incredibly beneficial. so why had Artemis's father give her the virus, when she was a lone operative?
