“Hot water? How did we get so lucky, that’s two places in two days.” Samuel said. He was used to going weeks without a shower. And then he was about to get his second daily shower. Things were looking up. And they would only get more of this treatment when they got to Vegas.
“I’m gonna hit that shower here in a bit, and then I think we should get an early start.” He said, taking a drink of a black cup of coffee and scooping a piece of SPAM up with a fork and eating it. A nice quiet breakfast… Amazing how the simple things, things that most people would go without in normal times, could make your day look up.
Getting out of here without the people looking for them noticing would probably be easier now. They would have searched the town from top to bottom and then went on to the surrounding area. He was sure they would have started with the highways and main roads, not the wilderness paths.
Pouring a bowl of cereal and milk, he took a bite and didn’t think about the fact that it was fake milk.
“Hour, tops, and we can get out of here. Unless you want to stick around.” He said, looking at her over his mug as he took another drink of coffee.

Zoe raised her glass. "One hour, then." In one hour they would be out of this hell hole and back to civilization. In one hour, they would be heading toward warmer temperatures. In one hour...
They'd be stuck in a car together for the better part of a week. Hopefully they didn't kill each other at that point.
And hopefully the man that she had ****ed off so badly wouldn't be able to find them. Deep down, Zoe knew that she didnt' have that good of luck.
But for now, she had breakfast and a hot shower. She used her fork to grab the last of her spam and shove it in her mouth. Then she finished off her cereal and downed the last of her coffee.
"Go get a shower and I'll check the gear and then top off the gas tank."

“All righty.” Samuel said, draining the last of his coffee. He sucked down the reminder of the milk, ate the last piece of SPAM, and stood up from the table. He stubbed out the cigarette in the ash tray and walked off toward the bathroom after grabbing his bag from the bedroom.
Unzipping it and fishing some fresh clothes out, around the wads of cash and other valuables, he turned on the water to full blast and stepped in, washing the grime and stink of the past day’s struggles off of him. If they were lucky, they would get to Vegas without another incident. It was beginning to be bulls***, the amount of crap they had to put up with just to try and find a place to stay.
He finished his shower and dressed quickly, lacing up his boots and slipping his first belt on. Like her, he left his clothes. They couldn’t wash them here, and he didn’t want to bring them, as bad as they smelled. Gathering his gear up, he walked out and tossed them, his head still covered with a towel as he dried his hair.

Zoe was already outside, leaning up against the car. Her bag was inside and her rifle was laying across it in the backseat. She had her revolver in her hands and snapped the cylinder back in with live rounds. In her jacket pocket, she had put all her speed loaders which were loaded with .357 Mag rounds.
While Samuel was in the shower, she had topped off the tank with one of the tanks in the back. They wouldn't have to stop to fill up the tank for a long time. Now, she just waited, walking around, stretching her legs for the longest car ride she'd do in a long time. The sun had cleared the mountain crest, but it was still cold, evident by her being able to see her breath in the air.
When Samuel came out, she smiled and holstered her weapon. "Ya know, when we get to Vegas, I'm going to buy a semi auto pistol, something where I don't have to load it every 6 rounds." She patted the car that she leaned against. "You ready for a road trip. Go potty and all, cuz we ain't stopping."

“I dunno about that.” Samuel said, walking outside and toward the car as he checked his own revolver.
“I don’t mind the reloading. A revolver is low maintenance. No magazines to keep track of. Less weight to carry. Less likely you are to panic and spray rounds all over the place.” He said. He liked the precision you were forced to keep if you were going to use a revolver effectively. Same thing with his shotgun.
“You wanna drive first or should I?” He asked. She still had the keys.

"You drive."
Zoe tossed the keys to Samuel and then slide into the passenger seat. She leaned back and grabbed her rifle from the back seat and put it barrel first into the floor. She didn't expect any trouble, since they would only have to stop to refill the bladder in the truck with gas and to eat and use the bathroom, but there was close to 16 million undead between them and Vegas. It they stayed away from the main cities, they should fare well. If they went through Denver, Kansas City, Oklahoma City... well it could go very bad very quick.
Strapping on her seat belt, Zoe grabbed a bottle of water and took a swig of it. "Let's go Jeeves, $1 million is burning a big hole in my pocket."
