Anna had been scooched up against Rich, holding the shotgun firmly in her grip. She was missing her door now and moving through the heavily infected city without it, was, frankly, terrifying.
"F*ck...I mean, I spent years killing BOWs. Killing Mercenaries....killing Tyrants....but these f*cks...oooh these f*cks scare the living hell out of me...those and the f*ckin..stupid...spiders....and...urgh....I hate this," she complained, feeling herself trembled a little.
Moving deeper into the city, they passed by a dark construction site, the unfinished tower reaching up, blocking the starlight and creaking ominously.
"We can hate this together," Rich said, feeling more and more nervous as they moved deeper into the city. "F*ck, there's too many infected here, I'm gonna break through that fence and make us a shortcut," he added swerving and clipping some infected as they began crowding around the car.
As he did, one of the infected had managed to grab ahold of the doorframe. It's rotting face snarled as it struggled to climb into the passenger side. Anna yelped and readjusted herself in her seat, slamming her boot into it's face.
"F*ck!" she griped, feeling it grab ahold of her leg. She didn't want to waste one of the shells before but now, she couldn't risk taking her foot off with a shot. She wriggled her leg a bit when it finally slammed into something outside, and tumbling out and behind the car.

"Sh*t, you okay?" Rich asked worried and looking over at her. She'd pulled both legs back upto her body, hugging onto them, best she could. "..Y-yeah..."
The vehicle began bumping against more and more infected until eventually it crashed through a chain-link fence, the metal ripping apart unevenly and getting rolled underneath the sedan. As it did, the car began making some very unsettling noises, and Rich began losing control of the vehicle.
"Dammit, the fence is caught up in the axis!" Rich yelled, before the car grounded to a stop. "F*ck!" he yelled as the airbag went off.
"The car stopped!" Anna yelled, pushing the air bag out of Rich's face and reaching into the back to grab their bags.
"I know I know!" Rich shouted before opening his door and climbing out. "F*ck I can't see anything!" he looked around, but his eyes couldn't adjust to the light with the car's headlights on.

Anna had scrambled out of the car with the bags and out into the frigid cold air. She could hear the sounds of the infected out in the city. They were getting closer, what with all the noise Rich had made.
Anna, trying to haul all the bags on her person, had began to shake and her heart began to pound faster and harder. That noise...it sounded like crowds of people, groaning and screaming, it was just...just too much.
Trying to cover her ears, she'd ran upto her husband's side. "Rich...Rich they're coming..Rich they're coming," she repeated, loudlier.
Rich held onto her and started moving her away from the broken fence and into the car's headlights. "Come on Anna, we gotta get moving," he told her pulling her along.
Anna kept trying to look back. She couldn't see anything but the car's headlights. But she could still hear them. They were getting louder.
Quickly reaching at her belt, she'd unclipped her flashlight and switched it on. The beam of the light began to shake in her hands.

"Anna come on, come on," Rich said, pulling her deeper into the construction yard. "I need your help Anna, I'm right here, just use your flashlight and we can get through this, come on," he said trying to help her get through this without panicking. To help her out, he grabbed two of the bags she had on her and slung them across his shoulder and back.
"I know, I know...I know, I know..." she said, trying to take the lead.
They stole away under a wooden scaffold held up by metal support rods. Twisting and turning through the structure as shuffling could be heard behind them, they soon came to an opening. Before them was a temporary metal staircase lead up to an industrial scaffold going up the length of the tower. Underneath it was a large yellow generator connected to a string of lanterns.
"Hold on Anna, I think I've got an idea," Rich said running forward and messing with the generator.
The redhead had watched him fiddle with the generator when she heard something fall over in the distance, a loud clanging. She'd quickly turned the flashlight out into the stretch of darkness over the site, removing light from the generator.
"Anna, I can't turn this on if I can't see what I'm doing," Rich called out, trying as hard as he could to make out what was what in the darkness. The light immediately illuminated his hands and the panel again.
"Sorry...sorry..." she whispered.
"It's alright, it's alright, and here... we... go," Rich said as the engine roared to life. The lights lantern strings sparked on intermittently as Rich pulled away from the generator and back to Anna's side. "Now we just got to..."

As soon as the lights flickered on around the construction site, everything around the couple had become visible. There'd been, what had to be, hundreds of infected encircling the site. There'd been clusters pushing up against the fences, forcing it to sway and creak weakly under their weight. The smarter and more relentless infected began shambling in through the broken fence, trying to get to their meal.
Anna's eyes widened and her jaw tightened into a clench. "R-Rich..."
"Anna, come on, this way, this way," Rich said, his voice cracking as he pulled her up the metal staircase, winding around the bend and up onto the scaffolding. Anna kept looking back, they were looming in closer and somehow it felt like either the site was closing in around them or the ifnected were just moving a little quicker.
'We're gonna die...we're gonna die here...we won't make it, we're gonna die!' she thought to herself, over and over again.
"Come on Anna, in here," Rich said pulling her onto the industrial scaffold and closing the small metal gate behind her. He went over to a control panel and started the mechanism, causing the scaffold to whine and make loud noises. Soon, the platform they stood on slowly began to rise up a rail attached to the side of the incomplete building.
Anna scurried into the farthest corner of the rising scaffold, sitting down in it and holding onto her flashlight tightly. The light was still on, despite not needing it anymore, but she hadn't paid any mind to it. All that her mind was registering was the endless infected down below.
'What if...what if there's more in the building...what if we die here? Wha-what do we do now?'

Rich sat down next to Anna, the scaffold creaking as he did. "We're not gonna die here, we're gonna get out of this, we're gonna find Aryn and Jimmy, and we're gonna be fine."
He dropped the bags he was holding and wrapped his arms around his wife. Anna lowered her head, looking down at the flashlight in her shakey hands. "What if they're in this? Aryn can't...she can't handle this like Jimmy and you can."
"She's got Chase, and Jake, and Jimmy to look after her, remember? She'll be okay, she'll be fine, I promise," Rich told her, kissing her head.
"I'm scared, Rich..."
"Don't be scared, I'm here with you, okay? I'm here..."
After a moment or so, she'd turned off the light and buried her face into her husband's shoulder. "I keep seeing them. I can't even close my eyes, I just...I keep, I keep seeing them. I keep seeing the infected," she told him, voice cracking.
Rich hugged her tight and stroked her hair. He didn't know what to say or do, so he just held onto his wife as tightly as he could as the scaffold kept rising.

Anna had found some solace in Rich's comforting strokes, the creaking of the scaffold had started to drown out the undead a little more as it ascended. For a split moment, she'd managed to shut her eyes and take in a breath. As she did, the gentle stroking had suddenly felt colder and more aggressive.
Opening her eyes, she'd looked up at her husband but instead of seeing him there, she'd seen an infected, grasping at her shoulders and stretching it's mouth wide open. It's eyes were blank and milky white.
"No! No! Get off!" she suddenly screeched, shoving it off of her and raising the flashlight up to strike him.
"Anna! Anna! What's wrong?Anna it's me!" he shouted, holding her arm back and trying to calm her down. She started screaming at him, almost unintelligently, trying her damned near best to get away.
"Anna! Anna calm down! Your safe, just, just calm down, just please calm down!" Rich kept telling her as he tried to hold her still.
The agent struggled underneath his strength before clocking him in the face with her free hand. When he'd let go, she'd stumbled sloppily to her feet and swung her self into the railing of the scaffold, forcing it to rock and sway side to side.
Gripping the rail tightly in her grasp, she'd looked downward at the accumilated crowds down below. Breathing heavily and hearing the beating of her heart in her ears, she hadn't even noticed the tears built up in her eyes.
"RICHARD!" she screamed out.

Rich stood up and grabbed his wife around the waist and pulled her down onto the floor of the scaffold, away from the edge. "Anna, please, stop this," he blurted out as he crawled on top of her and held her arms down by the wrists. "Get ahold of yourself, we're okay, everything's okay!" he shouted, his face reddening.
Anna squirmed under him, trying to move her wrists from his grasp. She even tried to move her legs around, but couldn't. She only screamed and cried at him, wriggling about until inevitably, she'd stopped. After some quiet moments, the scaffold had finally stopped.
Rich continued to hold onto her long after she'd stop squirming, his whole body shaking and his eyes welling up. He sputtered out some unintelligible sentence and continued holding onto his wife for dear life. He knew she had PTSD, but it had always been under control, it never got this bad. She was fine in the mall, back in Vegas, during the SPD attack and getting out of the carnival, but this? It hurt him to see her like this.

When her mind had finally gone quiet, everything else had gone quiet around her. She wasn't staring up at an infected anymore, instead she was seeing Rich looking down at her...with tears in his eyes. She'd stared up at him for what felt like forever until she'd squinted her eyes and felt her nose scrunch up.
Crying aloud, she'd shut her eyes again, tightly. Everything...everything that'd gone on since Trinity had been building up to this. Where did it get her? Bawling like a child and dragging her husband down with her. She'd never allowed herself this vulnerable, in fear of this exact thing happening, but here she was.
"I'm sorry...I'm so sorry...I..." she stammered, looked at him, sadly.

"It's okay, it's okay, you don't have to apologize, it's okay..." Rich sputtered, dropping down and wrapping his arms around his wife while laying his head into the crook of her neck. "It's okay now, it's okay, alright, everything's okay..."
She'd wrapped her arms around him tightly and laid there, staring up at the night sky. She'd sniffled and jerked a little from the crying. "I didn't mean to hurt you..."
"I know, I know, it's okay, I'm here and everything's gonna be okay..." . . . . .

Sometime that afternoon, Anna began to stir in her sleep. She didn't even remember falling asleep to begin with, but she had. She'd rolled over, shivering at how cold it had gotten. It had to have dropped some degrees. The skies were complete overcast and the air smelled damp, hopefully it wasn't going to snow.
Glancing over, she'd looked at her husband holding onto her, for a change, she'd woke up before he had. After that episode some hours back, she wasn't suprised. The noises from the infected below had still been apparent, but it didn't sound the way it had last night.
"Rich...? Rich, you awake...?" she asked.
Her husband tightened his grip on her and shifted around a little, causing the scaffold to make some odd noises. With the creaking and shifting off the floor beneath him, he woke and looked up at his wife. "Anna? Are you okay?" he groaned out.
She smiled a little warily at him and nodded. "I'm fine..." she began. "I'm freezing my ass off though...I just want to get somewhere warm."

"Have you tried the lift controls?"Rich asked, getting up and looking at the surroundings. "Uhh, vertigo."
"That's why I'm not getting up," she said from the ground of the scaffold.
"Alright, I'll go see," he said, standing up and walking over to the console carefully. After a few flipped switches and pressed buttons, Rich turned to Anna and said, "The controls are dead... What are we gonna do?"
Eventually, Anna got up and turned to face the building window panels. They hadn't even noticed that there was no window there, must've been too dark to see. "Oh...uh, well...I guess we can just...climb through here and make our way down, should give the infected time to disperse..." she said.
"Alright uh," Rich stammered looking at the small gap between the window ledge and the scaffold. "Yeah yeah, I can do that."

Anna had sighed a little, feeling her stomach grumble and churn. She could hear the nagging voice in the back of her mind, trying to sway her away from the small jump but if she could take on helicopter flights, if she could scale down and through windows, she could make a small jump.
She'd picked up their gun bag and tossed it into the building first, then threw her backpack through. She'd grabbed at the medicine bag and strapped it onto her back to avoid breaking or damaging anything important. Glancing at Rich, she'd smiled reassuring at him.
"Alright Rich, go ahead, I'll be right here," she said. She wanted to ensure he'd make that jump safely. As she waited, she'd reached into her breast pocket of her jacket to ensure Alex's grapple gun was there.

"Uh, alright," Rich said getting into position. "One, two, three!" Rich shouted, leaping off the platform and landing on the building and steadying himself. "Your turn!"
Anna took a breath and stepped back, when she'd readied herself to move, the scaffold rumbled and creaked aloud, shaking under her. She'd stumbled back and forward a bit, steadying herself. "Woah!"
"Oh God, hurry Anna come on!" Rich shouted, holding onto a support collumn on the edge of the building. The scaffold began to descend slowly and when it did, Anna ran forward, leaping at the the window pane. When she did, it quickly began to crash downward beneath her.
Her eyes widened and she'd let out a shout, reaching her hands at the ledge. Rich reached his arm out and grabbed hers but as soon as he grabbed ahold of one of her hands, they slipped through forcing him to quickly grab ahold of her wrist and forearm.
Anna had looked up at him, obviously terrified before looking down at the completely crushed scaffold down below. The infected began crowding in and around the debris in anticipation.
Rich, now on his belly at the very edge of the floor held on as hard as he could. "Anna! Your other hand!" he blurted out, the hard concrete applying pressure to his chest. She'd grimaced a little and tried swinging her arm up, but kept missing the ledge.
After a short second, she'd looked at him again. "I love you!" she told him, almost as if she was expecting to fail.
"Anna come on!" Rich said looking around for something, anything that could help. Even if there was he couldn't reach it, but he was panicking.

"Oh sh*t!" she suddenly swore, reaching into her breast pocket. "Just..Just hold on a little longer, a little longer!" before long, she'd pulled a device out of her pocket, pointing it up and pressing a button. A long thick cord shot out and wrapped securely around a steel girder. She'd let go of his hand and zipped up into the building.
When she was up there, the cord unravelled and sent her tumbling into piles of boxes and tools. She'd laid there, body aching and heart pounding. She'd kept her eyes shut tightly, why hadn't she done that sooner? She panicked....she almost cost herself her life and maybe even Rich's
"Urgh...Rich....are you...alright...?" she asked, rolling over onto her back and getting up. She'd grabbed ahold of her shoulder and looked over to him, smiling grimly. "I'm sorry."
Rich had pushed himself away from the ledge and gotten up, walking over to Anna holding her tight in his arms. "It's okay, it's okay, just don't... do that again."
Anna felt her face heat up for a moment before she'd wrapped her arms around him, just as tight. "I'm alright, see? I'm here," she said, softly, rubbing her hands on his back to soothe his worries.
"Hey, you never told me you loved me, you big jerk," she said, trying to lighten up the mood.
