Serenity drifted in and out of consciousness. She was aware that she was moving, but unsure how. At one point she managed to open her eyes slightly, and could blurringly make out her dangling arms and the ground beneath her. Relenting to the weight on her eyes, she shut them again, and gently swayed back and forth. Her left arm was on fire, but she didn't know why. She had no strength to move it, but she saw that it was still there. Every time her arm swung in it's rhythmic pattern though, it rubbed on something, and sent searing jolts of burning pain to her mind. Eventually it became too much and Serenity passed out again.
The next time she was aware, she could hear gun shots. someone was firing at something. The shots were echoing, so she must have been inside. Soon after the swaying resumed, but it was different. Her arm wasn't rubbing anymore; she seemed to be hanging at a different angle, and the pattern of sway was different. The echoes of footsteps were profound here as well, perhaps a stairwell? The last thing Serenity heard before slipping back into the darkness was a door opening.
Serenity awoke with a start. She was laying on the floor, a thin blanket had been placed over her, and the doll she had found was next to her. Suddenly a shot of pain went up her arm. She let out a yelp and gripped her left arm. Looking at it, she saw that it had been burned. Gently she touched her arm, examining the extent. The burn wasn't too deep, but painful nonetheless. Serenity looked around the room, hoping to see Caine, he wasn't there. She looked down to the doll next to her, wondering where he'd gone, and if he'd be back.

With the little girl still on his shoulder, Caine had fired off a few rounds at the infected blocking the doors to the place. There were a number of them around already, but he couldnt take them all out. Finishing off the handgun, he put it back in his holster, and then kicked open the entrance doors to the Raccoon City Time building. Inside, there were a few of them near the elevators, which didnt work anyway. But there was two coming down the stairwell. Using his knee, Caine knocked them out of the way and back down the steps blocking the path for the others as well.
Upon reaching the highest level of the building he could using this staircase, Caine went into the large shooting room, and slammed the door behind him. Laying the girl down the on floor for now, he locked the door behind him, and then knocked over the recording tower in front of it to ensure nothing would get through. It was already a fight getting here, especially with the little girl weighing him down a load. Reaching into his bag which was laying on the floor next to her, Caine pulled out a magazine, and replaced with with the empty one from the gun. There had been a few coats laying around the place, which could be used as a blanket for the girl who had still been out if it. Laying it over her gently, he then searched around the place for signs of infected.
With the sun just starting to come up, it lit up the place pretty well, so a flashlight wasnt needed. The whole area seemed to be clear, but that couldnt be said about the dead bodies. Two of them remained in the studio, one of them hang from the ceiling fan by a belt. There wasnt any signs of rotting or decay, so it mustve been done recently. But Caine put his attention of the large deck on the side of the building, used for outdoor shooting and a few talkshows. It was perfect to see across the city, and the radio on his side had a signal. The battery was low, however, so this would be his last call on it until another one was found. Turning it on, it set it to a certain frequency from his memory, and then attached the small headset onto his ear.
"This is John Michael Caine broadcasting on a personal frequency. I am currently barricaded on the top floor of the Raccoon City Times building. If anybody can hear me, please respond..." There hadnt been any voice come back to him, unluckily. Looking at the sun rise up over a building, he turned himself away, and spoke again. "...I repeat. This is Johnathan Michael Caine broadcasting on a personal frequency, barricaded on the highest level of the Raccoon City Times. If anybody is there, respond..." Suddenly, there was another hint of static on the other end, and a sharp voice glittered through not long after. "This is Hal, are you only survivor? How many more are there with you? Over."
Caine quickly answered back in the radio, not really expecting a response this fast. "Just me and a little girl. No signs of infection, but shes badly burned. Were at the Raccoon City Times building, where is your location?" But there wasnt any answer on the other end for a good thirty seconds, thats when the voice on the other end spoke out, and the loud humming sound of a dying battery indicated that no more outgoing voice could be detected. "Listen, if you can hear me, im on my way. Just sit tight, and give forty-five minutes tops!" Caine listened as the message repeated. He switched off the radio, and then walked back inside the building. Tossing the radio into his bag, he noticed the little girl was now awake, and staring at him with an unhappy facial expression. "I have a chopper on their way for us, they can take us wherever we want to go." Its all he really could say. But there was nothing left to do but wait.

Serenity stared up at Caine thoughtfully. Two things were blatantly obvious; one, he was still alive, and two he was still with her, even after the fire. Serenity slowly got to her feet. She was dizzy and wobbled in place for a moment. As soon as the vertigo passed she set her sights on Caine again and walked to him. Looking up at the man, she stared at him thoughtfully. Just then her arm brushed against her dress and she winced in pain. She looked down at it and then held her arm up for Caine to see. He said something and shook his head. Serenity simply continued to stare at him holding her arm up. Eventually he sighed and sat down on a chair, rummaging through his bag to see if he had anything to help apparently knowing that he wouldn't. Serenity paused for a moment to think, and then climbed into Caine's lap. At first he protested, but Serenity settled in and rested her head against his arm, shutting her eyes, allowing herself to bask in the comfort of another human presence for the first time in her life.

As much he wanted to, Caine wasnt able to help the girl any. His small, almost empty bag didnt have much first aid stuff inside of it, little to none. Ammunition, yes. But not even cooling gel, he was prepared to tough out anything that came between him and his goal. When the chopper did arrive, he could get her the medical attention she needed, hopefully. Until then, it was just a matter of waiting it out. As the little girl got up onto his lap, Caine was a little bothered by this. However, her intentions were that of any hurt child, just trying to seek protection for an elder, something to help make the pain go away.
She was sleeping, this wasnt exactly Caines forte. If there was a bust in through the door, he would need to act fast to ensure their safety, which would mean pushing the girl away who was inconvieniently resting on him. If anything happened, he would be at a disadvantage. If anything happened, they would be unlucky. But nothing was going to, the door was blocked off securely, and there had been no other entrances to the floor accessable for the undead. Maybe it was a good opportunity to rest his eyes, seldom is there a time for sleep in his world of constant survival. Caine never settled down, he was always on the move. The place was safe, a few hours of rest would do him good, this he knew.
---Three hours later---
The sound of a chopper hovering in the air alerted him, and Caine woke up instantly. Slowly, he grabbed the little girl from the side, and then lifted her onto the floor for the time being. Soon, she would wake up, the chopper blades were started to create a force on the side of the building. Grabbing his bag, Caine slung it over his shoulder, and then ran for the balcony to see where the chopper was going. It was landing on the rooftop, just up the exit stairs. Jerking his head back to the girl, Caine saw she was now awake, and obviously alerted by the sound of the large aircraft. Within a few minutes, the exit door opened up, and a man dressed in full military gear spoke out over the muffled sound of the engine on the roof. "Former-Private Chinook, are their anymore of you coming?" Caine shook his head, just looking back at the little girl. "Afraid not, just use two. Lets get moving, save as much fuel as we can, well talk in the bird."

Serenity was only half awake, her mind in a protective state, not wanting to let go of the comfort of sleep. She saw Caine, and heard the helicopter, but she was dreaming. ***** The scent of roses. The young girl smiles happily for her family. "Happy birthday Serenity! You're growing up so fast!" Growing up? Fast? Time does seem to pass quickly when you spend your life in a fog. It's like water. You can relax in it, feel it flowing over your body. In a way, it's calming. And yet, so dangerous. If you go in over your head, you struggle to stay afloat, and slowly, you drown. It withers rock, grinds it to a smooth pebble, and shrivels the skin, forming wrinkles, that you can't seem to undue. But it is necessary. Without it, you wouldn't exist. Such a troublesome predicament.
A crash, broken glass. Fear, anxiety, anticipation. "Serenity what happened? You broke your mother's vase! She'll be angry when she finds out." Emotions. They're so strange, so foreign. Mothers love, unconditionally. They would give their lives for their children, and yet be angry over a vase? Strange. Perhaps, anger isn't an emotion. It's merely a facade. One we wear, to express other deeper feelings. Anger is necessary for love. Without it, love is meaningless. Imagine that. One of the strongest emotions, rendered completely insignificant by the absence of a facade. Strange indeed.
Crying? Someone has died? Grandma? Such a strange ritual this is. People gathering together, crying and mourning the loss of another. And so dark. Why is the darkness associated with death? With fear? Perhaps the darkness merely represents something. The unknown. We fear what we don't know. Don't understand. It's silly. Why should we fear it? It could be good. Pleasant. Fulfilling. I've decided I like the dark. The unknown. I won't let it stop me. I will simply live. This is my life. Fear can not restrain me. I will not be held back.
I'm foolish. My life is not my own. In my dreams, my thoughts seem so clear, but as soon as I wake, The fog returns. I wander. I follow. But it's okay. I don't mind. Life is easier that way, right? Not having to worry about yourself, or others, or anything. No. That's not right. I'm foolish. ***** As Serenity dreamed, she mindlessly followed Caine. He led her to some unknown destination, but she didn't mind. In her dreams she found comfort, and that was all she needed.

Caine had followed the soldier reluctantly, making sure that the little girl had been close behind him. It seemed like the whole time her mind was miles away, there was not a bit of emotion. She wasnt happy to see a helecopter, or greatful that they could get out of here. She wasnt fazed by the chopper blades loud sound, or urked by the presence of another individual that would potentionally be an enemy. But regardless, Caine lead her up onto the rooftop of the building, and then saw the large aircraft on the center of the landing pad. This was a sight he hadnt seen in a long time, such a large aircraft ready to pick them out, willing to go out of their way to help those stuck in the city. It was a slightly confusing sight when the blades stopped spinning, and the helecopter came to a complete stop. The soldier had jumped into the back, and then yelled to the pilot something that Caine wasnt able to hear. After a few seconds, the soldier returned, and then spoke out. "Were gonna have to refuel if were going anywhere today, its already been a few days since, and we need to charge the generators anyway. If we can get access to them on this rooftop, it shouldnt take more then a few hours. Bad timing, what can I say?" Caine listened to the soldier talk, and then nodded his head in agreement. It wasnt like they had much of a choice, unless they wanted to just return to the streets. Looking at the generators on the rooftop, Caine knew they didnt have power running to them from the main building. If they were going to recharge the supply, they would have to go back inside the building and get the power back on, or at least the reserve power. It would be a worthy sacrifice to get the chopper active, but like the soldier said, it would take some time. "Right, ill start working on it 5 minutes ago." With that, Caine tossed his bag to the ground, and then ran back off into the stairwell to get to the power supply room on the bottom floor. The little girl instinctivly followed after him, but Chinook stood in the doorway, blocking her from going any further. "Its too dangerous to have you following him, why dont we get you inside so we can take a look at your burns, okay?"~~ Inside the aircraft, Hal was pressing some buttons away on his laptop bolted between the passage to the passenger seats. The file he was typing had been something that he was working on for quite some time, but it was disclosed from anybody. Not Chinook, not anybody was allowed to read it, he made sure of this. As Chinook and the little girl entered the back of the chopper, Hal rapidly saved the document and closed his laptop. Looking back at the two, he spoke out in an unleveled tone and unbelieved eyes. "How old is she? I dont think ive seen a child since the outbreak started!" Realizing he was still wearing the radio earphones, he quickly set them down, and then moved into the back with Chinook and the younger child. Hal extended his hand, and then smiled with an overly friendly grin. "Hello, my name is Doctor Christopher Halbred, but please, call me Hal."

Serenity stared blankly at the man, Hal. He and his friend had kept her from following Caine. She frowned at him, and looked down at his extended arm. Unsure of what it meant, she thought of her own arm. Perhaps this man wanted to look at what was hurting her. In response, she extended her left arm back at him and looked up to him. Hal raised a confused eyebrow.
*****
Caine was moving through the building stealthily, trying to avoid zombies when he could to save ammo. He figured that the best place to start at returning power would be the basement so thats where he was headed. Re-entering the stairwell he and Serenity had originally climbed, he went all the way to the basement floor and tried the door. It was locked. With no visible window on the door to break, Caine decided it would be best to try another stairwell. Avoiding the first floor, Caine climbed to the second floor and searched for another set of stairs. After a bit of effort, he found one. Descending to the basement once more, he tried the door, this time finding it open. Cautiously, Caine opened the door, unsure of what he would find on the other side.
*****
"You're sure you saw them enter this building?"
"Yes lieutenant Ross. When the Serenity project's flash ignition happened, we caught a brief glimpse and gave pursuit. We tracked them to this building. One of our scouts said that he saw the man carry her inside." Jim smiled.
"So, playing cat and mouse now are we? Perfect. I love games."

Stepping into the basement section, Caine first had to turn on his flashlight to see anything from then on. Holding the light and handgun in unison, he was able to catch a glimpse of an infected prowl across the hallway into another room. But upon keeping the light trained ahead, he saw that it returned back to his location, and was now shambling toward him. Lowering his gun, he jerked around to see another four on the opposite side, and then quickly ran toward the lone infected. Kicking it in the chest while moving forward, he heard to knock to the ground, and Caine was able to run past holding the flashlight. Scanning the walls for a sign that would lead him to the generators, he searched before finally coming across the room far down at the other ends of the hall. Just then, the door to the basement had opened again, but who was coming through was unknown to him.
~~~
"Oh, you want me to look at your arm? Ahh! Your burned!" Quickly moving past the girl, Hal opened the first aid box positioned under a certain seat of the chopper. First things first, he grabbed the medicated aloe treatment, and then a bandage with a clip. The burn seemed to have happened somewhat recently, but it didnt get past must layers of the skin enough to cause for concern. Pain, yes, this was what he tried to eliminate the most of of the little girl. "Alright, now just hold still, okay? This will only hurt for a few moments, but that only means its working." The aloe had been applied to the little girls arms, mostly around the more severe burns, and then the bandage was set on top of it. Being careful not to tighten it too much, Hal clipped it off loose enough for comfort.
"There, now you wont have to worry about infection. Erm, I mean, natural infection. Youll be safe from the more literal type with Chinook sticking around. Unless your planning on leaving..." Hal have the man Chinook a dirty look. He was thinking about going off on his own since a few days ago, but was obligated to stay once he heard about the broadcast. Not the one sent by this girl and the other man, but one that was received from the Arklay Mountains. Oh how he wouldve liked to help everybody, but with just a single unit and so little time, it was impossible. If he had a team to work with, then it would be easier. But unfortunately, he was on his own, just doing whatever he can. "I wouldve been gone awhile ago if it wasnt for this setback. I need to find my wife, you know that." An argument would have happened, but the presence of the little girl put it to a halt. Both of the men man looked at her, puzzled by the situation they were in.
Walking through the Times building the soldiers had heard a slight commotion for the basement. Upon going to investigate, they saw the man that they had been after earlier. Jim smiled. He could just kill the man now, but with the Serenity Project no where to be seen, that wouldn't do him any good. Instead, Jim pressed his back to the door frame and called in to Caine.
"Well hello there. Caine was it? I'm so sorry we got off to a rough start. I'm just not very trusting, you know how it can be. How about I make it up to you and that girl you had with you. Speaking of her, Where is she anyway?" Jim waited for a response, smiling.
*****
Serenity cringed as Hal treated her burn. It stung, but she knew what to expect. This was not her first burn after all. When Hal had finished, she blinked down at her arm. It did indeed feel much better.
Serenity look back up at Hal as he spoke to her. She cocked her head to the side, unsure if he was attempting to be humorous or just awkward. As the two men argued, Serenity stared at them. Eventually, she stood up and walked to the front of the helicopter, sitting down in one of the pilot's seats. looking at the controls she blinked. They were very colorful. Serenity raised a finger to push one of the buttons.
With the little girls hurts treated, Hal seemed a little more confident that she would be alright. Now going off on her own inside the chopper, he moved further back to sit in a seat across from Chinook. They still had a dispute to get over, about whether or not he would be sticking with the "group" or not. In a sense, Hal was trying to recruit a unit together, in an aid to help those who may be in trouble around the city. It wasnt enough just being a BSAA member, but with your official unit killed off, there was no room for any error. Of course, it was more complicated then that, but he didnt even think about it around Chinook. "Listen, if your going to be tagging along, I would appriciate it. Your a good shot, and a good soldier, especially better then me. But if you want to just take off, im not going to stop you. I would rather you make the decision that best for yo-"
Just then, Hal had paused mid sentence, and then rushed to the cockpit of the aircraft, seeing the little girl fiddling with some buttons. The chopper wasnt on, luckily, but instead of instantly stopping her, he just stood back to see what buttons she would press. Maybe she knew something about flying one of this, or saw somebody else work one and got interested. Whatever the case, he was interested in just admiring her curiousity, not so much stopping her.
~~~
To escape the infected, Caine weaved inside of a room, and closed the door. Before doing so, he cut the light to be sure the zombies wouldnt follow him based on that. With absolutely no more noise coming from the hall, he was sure that it was safe in here and out there. Yet he still aimed his gun forward, taking no chances. However, before getting to the controls at the back of the room, Caine heard a sound from the door. At first, he was sure it was just the zombies trying to get in after all, but then heard the voice of a familliar character. Two things went through his mind. One would be retaliation, he could shoot through the door without making any conversation, see how the fool would react to that. Or Caine would make ammends, or at least give the impression.
"Shes in here with me, and I plan to keep it that way. Just know that if you plan on coming in here, you better be ready to take a bullet." Shining the light around the room, Caine saw there was a few entrances to this place, making it even more difficult to pace himself. But the goal here was to get the power running, and to keep them away from the rooftop. Aiming the light on the generators in the back, he quickly began to reset fuses, anything he could do to get them working again. Seems that a few of them were missing, so a little last minute rewiring was needed to make this work. A good five minutes and this could be done, but the hostile enviornment wasnt making it any easier. He started working on it, taking the plate off and trimming wires with his knife. "Dont keep us waiting too long."

Serenity pushed a few buttons and fiddled with some switches. It was in her childlike nature to be amused by such things. It was the closest she'd had to fun in quite some time. Eventually, she turned her attention to the joystick control. She took hold of it curiously. She moved it about and pushed the buttons. Suddenly, she stopped, her eyes going wide, and her mind receded to it's recesses. ***** Serenity stood by watching a group of scientists work. They were standing in a room behind a pane of glass, operating a dual joystick control. Serenity stood on her toes to peer through the glass. In the room, she could see a pair of robotic arms, working on some being laying still on a table. The arms moved skillfully and precisely every time the scientists moved the joysticks.
Suddenly, a monitor in the room began flashing and emitting a loud beeping noise. The scientists looked up to it and at each other. In a hurry, they rushed to a door, and left the room, re-emerging on the other side of the glass a short time later. Her curiosity piqued, Serenity walked to the control panel.
Serenity studied the joysticks for a short time, looking them over from top to bottom. Eventually, she grabbed them delicately and began moving them. When she did, the arms on the other side of the glass began to move. Serenity's eyes grew wide at her new found discovery. Playfully, she moved the arms all around, unaware of the commotion and the horrified screams of the scientists inside.
A short time later they burst back into the room, and and brought her back to her own room. A syringe was produced and Serenity was injected. The serum caused Serenity to curl up in pain as her body felt like it was on fire, and soon after, the real fire followed. ***** Serenity's eyes grew wide and she quickly let go of the controls and stood up, backing away slowly. She looked up to Hal, fear in her eyes, not wanting to be punished again. ***** Jim laughed. This Caine was certainly a strong willed individual. He would have to correct him of that. Signaling to his men, they clicked on their flashlights and entered the room. Making quick work of the undead, they scanned the area. Spotting a closed door, they approached it slowly. Jim sent his men forwards and they surrounded the door. Standing back, Jim called out. "Caine? Are you in there? Why are you hiding? I just would like to have a word with you and your friend. It's nothing serious. I just believe that she'll be able to help me with something. Why not open the door and come out. Then we can have our chat and go our separate ways, eh?" Jim looked to his men and nodded. They all readied their weapons, pointing them to the door, waiting for any sign of movement from the other side.

It was a little more of a rushed procedure then he wouldve expected, but Caine had worked fast on the generators at the back of the room. He could hear the movement outside the door now, but it didnt stop him from getting this done. When the voice started to speak out louder and closer now, he hurried even faster, making the proper rewiring to the generators. There was no way in hell he was going to just open that door, only to show the man that the little girl wasnt even in there him him. Without any use for him, except to find the girl, Caine was expendable to them.
This lead him to a tough, but wise choice he had to make. If these men were after the little girl, and the little girl was safe on the rooftop, then all he needed to do was get the power running and then be on his way. It would work out in the long run for both him and the others on the roof. The girl was completely safe, and Caine would be able to continue his own search for what he was looking for in Raccoon City without worrying about anybody else but himself. The gunshots from out in the hall cracked the whip on him, and the choice had been made the moment he left the rooftop. In that moment, the lights to the building was flickered several times, but retained only the generator power and emergency lights. Mission accomplished. Still, Caine kept himself quiet, and waited for the men outside to make the first move.
~~~
"Hey now, easy. Were not going anywhere, the power is off. Dont worry, things are fine." Hal seen that the little girl was a little quick to withdraw herself once she noticed Hal was nearby, but he tried to make it reassuring that it was alright. It was almost like the little girl had been at a different educational level, or maybe even didnt know english. Not knowing at all how she was raised made things a little awkward. Just looking at her age, she wouldnt possibly have much of an education to go by on what was happening, everything seemed so distant to her. Looking back at Chinook for a second before looking back, Hal spoke out to the little girl. "Are you hungry?"
But just then, Chinook and Hal both heard the gunfire down below a few levels, and got a little on edge. The soldier had jumped from the chopper, and then listened even more carefully. It was almost too faint to even be sure it was coming from down in the basement or not, but it was somebody firing off a gun regardless. Not a few seconds later, there was a loud sound emitting from the generator on the rooftop, and Hal knew exactly what that sound meant. "He got it working that fast? Lets give things fifteen minutes to charge, how about you go down there and make sure things are alright?"
Jim looked around as he heard the whine of the generators kicking in. Power? He's trying to restore the power? I wonder why. Nodding to his men, the two closest readied themselves at the door.
"It would appear that the power is back on. I don't suppose you have something to do with that? That leaves the question why? I would think turning the power on would be a magnet for attention. No matter. If you won't come out and speak with us, why don't we come in to chat with you."
At that moment, the two closest men turned the handle and burst in through the door, their weapons ready. The rest would soon be following. They wouldn't fire immediately not knowing where Project Serenity was, but as soon as they saw that she wasn't there, things would get hectic.
*****
Serenity was a little shaken by her memory. Her natural response was to get some air. Casually, she walked out of the helicopter and onto the roof. Slowly she walked to the edge and looked out over Raccoon City. Even in it's chaotic state, one could argue that the view of the city was beautiful. It was almost eerie, the kind of charm a haunted house would have. Serenity took a deep breath and gazed out over the broken landscape. If you were standing at the right angle, you could almost make a case, that at that moment, Project Serenity smiled.
"Hey hey hey! You shouldnt be that close to the edge! You could fall!" Hal shouted out to the little girl, trying to get her attention. Apparently, it worked, because she immediately stopped and turned around. But judging by the facial expression, it was almost as if she had no clue what she was doing wrong, like she wasnt even understanding what he was saying. Walking up to her, Hal stood between her and the edge of the rooftop, making sure not to fall himself. He sat down on the side facing the top, and then looked very curiously at the little girl. Maybe he was overlooking something, and needed to get down to the basics. Communication. "Nod your head if you can understand me, shake if you can pick out a few words." Hal waited anxiously for a response, still looking curiously.
~~~
As the men all had entered the room, it was evident the area was completely empty. With the power and emergency lights back on, it was easy to see that Caine had disappeared. Inside the ventilation shaft he crawled slowly and silently across into another room. They were already open, more then likely used before, as the bolts had been torn off with a tool. Dashing into the hallway, Caine noticed there was a few infected now shambling around, ones that found there way here from following the gunfire. But aside from that, he heard the gunfire of somebody else on the floor above them. Sprinting past the open doorway, pushing the slow moving zombies to the side, he made his way up the stairs to see who was shooting.
Slamming the basement door behind him, Caine ran past the lobby desk, and then seen string of computer monitors around the side for visitor use. In one kick, he broke the lock on the wheels from the lead desk, and then pushed them into the basement staircase, blocking the way off. If they were going to follow him, they would have to find another way. Reaching the second floor, Caine came face to face with the soldier Chinook, but it was more like barrel to barrel. Both lowered their guns, and then Chinook spoke out in a low, raspy tone. "Brought you your bag, thought youd need if gonna be getting this power back on. Looks like I misjudged you. Good work, soldier."
Caine caught the bag thrown by the man, and then shouldered it over his back. This was definitly something wanted to take with him, but was prepared to leave it if it meant getting out of here quicker. He had to explain what was going on, and that the chopper on the roof had to take off as soon as possible. "You have to get that bird moving, theres a group of men searching this building, looking for that girl. Take the girl to a safe place, anywhere, just get her away from here. Ill try to lead off, but its gonna mean splitting up from here. Tell that BSAA operative that im dead, then he wont feel obligated to search for me later." Chinook listened to the man speak, but then nodded, and spoke out with another raspy tone. "Your no soldier, but your no coward either. I hope you find what your searching for..." With that, both men went their separate ways, each knowing theirs other people out there willing to make sacrifices to keep others around them safe.

Serenity stared up at Hal and cocked her head to the side, not really sure what he was asking of her. Sure she could pick out his words, but what he meant by them, she didn't have a clue. Besides, Serenity was more intrigued by his glasses. Reaching out, she carefully took hold of them and gently removed them from his face. Studying them for a moment, Serenity put them up to her own eyes and was amazed. Everything became so blurry. She took the glasses away for a moment and looked around. Everything was fine again. Curious, why would someone wear something that made everything blurry? Serenity put the glasses on her face, but they were too large for her and slid down her nose. With the glasses on the tip of her nose, she looked up to Hal questioningly, wondering what they were for.
